Clay, your videos are clear, concise, informative and easy to follow. This, IMO, makes you the best golf instructor on RUclips! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I like this video because it is a factual analysis of what DJ and other top golfers are doing on Tour right now. Moreover, there is not a lot of unintelligible jargon in your instruction. I don't have to be a chiropractor or a mechanical engineer to follow along. If I look at the video and emulate the body action and if I can throw a frisbee or a hammer, I can pretty much breeze through the lesson and practice this stuff at home. Clay, the word you used was intuitive, and that's how you based your easy-to-follow & learn instruction. I'll put this to use at the driving range today.
Took me a couple months but I've completely changed my swing to the slot with knuckles down. Finally getting comfortable and my accuracy and distance is improved dramatically. Thank you Sir. I am subscribed.
In my opinion your drills are fantastic, especially for more intermediate to advanced players, who already know the basics but need some additional help to improve swing parameters. Amazing job!
If you have played baseball, use your club like a bat on plane horizontal, then just keep lowering the plane until you have your golf swing. Feel how the swing is the same. This man is very good at explaining compared to 90%. Thankyou stay safe🙏🏻❤️
This was my game changer to get behind the ball and turn my hips, 40 flip’n years to figure it out-also, unloads the left elbow (struggling with tendon issues from my left arm “snapping”). And AMAZING video.
My golf coach literally taught me this 2 weeks ago and it changed EVERYTHING! Just wanted to validate this video, because most will overlook this one and you basically gave away the secret to hitting driver. Killin the game bro (keep it up)
Greetings from Ireland Clay, we've been in lockdown here for six of the past twelve months but you've been one of the shining lights with your brilliant and incredibly informative instructions. Even though I've only been able to hit balls into a net in my back garden i can feel the difference since I shallowed out my swing. Keep up the great work. Legend.
Great Tip Clay and very intuitive but it would seem the timing of the release is critical. Too late and the ball goes right (for a right-hander) and too early and you get the dreaded pull-hook. So it probably requires practice (like everything in golf) to perfect this move. I can't wait for some warm weather to work on this.
Definitely true ,if you get too much lag on the downswing, the wrists remain open and the ball flyes way too the right ,or as you say if you try and compensate you get the dreaded duck hook. This was the result of two days on the range trying this method,I was totally drained and depressed when I got home, even a couple of should I say it a couple of shanks crept in.w.Where is that Holy Grail of squaring those wrists on impact.🏌️🏌️🏌️
Very instructive video. Keeping my elbow in like that would likely prevent my right shoulder from flaring out & hitting it straight left like I sometimes do.
it's the half baked shoulder turn/tilt on the take away that makes golf so hard for the majority. It is as easy as Clay is making it look if you are 1 of the 10% that can take it away from the ball with proper shoulder/tilt and hip turn.
Love the new simulator Clay. Great content as ever. Really enjoying working through the Top Speed Golf System. Back playing in the UK this week..can’t wait to get out on the course this weekend 👍
that's just it. strike thru with the left side of the right forearm in the start of the downswing and the right arm will find its hub against the right side, and from there the arm will use the right right side as a pivotal point to strike thru. the role of the right arm and the right hand, in the swing, are entirely opposite. the left side of the right forearm strikes thru as though it wants to maintain its position right up into the follow thru. the right hand has different ideas; or rather the left hand has its own idea of what it wants the right hand to do thru the hitting area. as the left hand applies force to both the left side and the right side of the club it releases the club thru in the hitting area. the right hand then has no choice but to release thru with the left hand. and, this pulls the right arm thru when the club moves beyond the hands. it would seem strange that such an internal power struggle should take place in the swing. but, when the left side of the right forearm strikes thru from the top, the momentum of the swing reacts against the right arm and this helps to create lag. this will mean that the left hand moves into a position where it is very much to the left side of the shaft in the downswing. and, when the left hand is to the left side of the shaft it is able to apply force to the left side of the shaft. and, when the left hand applies force to the left side of the shaft it will automatcially applly force to the right side of the shaft, also. so it is all good.
Hi Clay, started playing again after several years and have watched your lessons. I have a better understanding of the swing thanks to you! I feel sometimes my hips are to quick and as I work to stay in posture is it possible to clear out to quick and if so any suggestions?
Thanks for another helpful instruction video, Clay. Question: does this elbow-tuck also apply to hitting my 3-wood off the tee? And how about my iron shots in the fairway? In other words: is it a universal piece of the golf swing? Thanks!
Yes, it's the same swing for all full swings/shots. The differences are longer clubs will naturally have a flatter plane and the ball is moved forward with a driver to make contact on the upswing. You can also do this with a 3-wood off of the tee, but it's not a must like the driver is. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor
I am a right hander who plays golf left handed due to me learning with my leftie dads clubs. I throw with my right arm so have never really had a feeling for what my left arm should be doing, it just seems to get in the way. This drill is a game changer for me since, it really gives me something to focus on and the result is my club is at a completely different position as it enters the hitting zone. So thanks very much. I have one question. Clay describes very well how to fully release the club in terms of the end point. But at what point does the hitting hand (so left in my case, right for most) release start to happen? From the point of view of feeling it especially as I guess that needs to occur before it actually takes place due to the speed the club is moving. Atm I think of it happening as it reaches my trail thigh and think that may be too late so would love your advice. (Declaration of interest, I am a TSG member so biased but I think Clay consistently provides the best and most accessible golf advice that I have come across here on RUclips.)
Hi, Martin - I'd go to the Instruction Tab at the top menu on the site and click the Top Speed Golf System. Then select the Straight-Line Release course and work through it. This will ingrain the proper release in your swing. Best of luck and thanks for being a member! Nate | TSG Instructor
Awesome and fun drill 👍This is hard question, but can you compare golfswing and disc throw body speed. I mean if you can throw disc 100 yards, then how far can you hit with golf driver? Offcource there is lot off technical elements, but roughly with same body speed?
Great question! Unfortunately, I just don't have any idea how that would translate to disc golf. But thanks a bunch for watching and I hope you play well 😀
Thought I saw a disc golf disc in the thumbnail!! As always great video and you always seem to find a way to show and explain things in a way that clicks for me. Thanks!!!
Thank you for this new swing concept! I have more distance off the tee, but sometimes this causes a wicked duck hook! Any suggestions to prevent the hooks off the tee? TIA
@Clay excellent video. Quick question: would it help to set up with a very weak right hand grip? It’d help prevent flipping and the timing of it. Please advise. Thanks big fan
Is that a Kentucky accent? Anyway, your teaching is on point and you made me realize that I wasn't shallowing out or clearing my hips. Shot consistently in the 90's last year, goal is to get into the 80's this year. Thanks Clay, shoot well- From Wisconsin!
How can these moves be done if you have a “healed” herniated disc in the lower back? Followed Clays teachings last year, worked the drills and played the best golf of my life. Then the disc. In person instruction has led me to believe this is a young mans swing. I’m 61. Thanks.
Thanks! Clay is putting a good deal of time and energy into the indoor setup to provide great content for everyone who watches. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

I’m 87, 15 handicap and swing regular shafted Apex irons, and woods are also regular with BB Alpha heads. Driver distance ~ 190-200 yds @ sea level. What benefits would result from going to senior shafts, my lag appears to be OK, but may not get much help from R shafts. Aside, I’ve also played the driver with an S shaft and did not notice much difference other than lower flight. My typical shot shape is draw to an occasional hook. Any comments?
You can try to make adjustments to your grip like Mark notes below. I'd also try to hit cuts until the ball actually cuts and then back off back to square. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
Clay when you say released you mean fully released. it starts releasing well before full release right? where does that begin or is it just a biomechanical thing?
You want to start releasing the lag you've built up about the time the club is parallel with the ground and the shaft should split your forearms somewhere around 30-45 degrees past parallel. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
When you used the small wooden stick implement, to demonstrate the down action towards the ball on the ground , is it the same feel when hitting driver , it sort of goes against the feeling of hitting up with driver. Thanks again for your help.
It's the same concepts/actions for all full swings/shots. That being said, I wouldn't actually try to hit up with the driver. Moving the ball forward enough in the stance to catch the ball on the upswing is the idea. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
When do you start releasing? And logic tells me that the amount of release through impact will have a big effect on swing direction. So this becomes a big timing issue which probably requires hundreds of balls to be hit to get some consistency
@@TopSpeedGolf I have to add and admit though that you are much deeper in your explanations, esp. considering what body section does what. Thanks a lot for the elaborate video! I am a subscriber already and hope for a GOOD offer ( the last one was just far too expensive ) for the ball striking masterclass.
I understand the reservations about the BSMC. Really, most of what you're paying for is instructor access. You get invited to a Facebook group and you can post videos and get feedback from an instructor there. Not much different than swing reviews and you get 120 days of this with the BSMC. So, when you compare it in that manner, it's a really good deal. If I was just joining the site and wanted to get better as fast as possible, I'd first go through the 20MDF, then I'd sign up for the BSMC. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
When you deliver the club shallowly, you just get into position and turn. It's easier said then done, but less timing and more consistency follows when done properly. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Yes, as do the golf balls. The ball flight simulator screen is a projection inside the video. The balls and disc are hitting the impact screen absconded by the projection. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor
That is an actual projection. If you watch the ball disappears behind it when it hits the (hidden) actual impact screen. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor
Sorry to hear that. The best way to improve at anything is through feedback. I'd record my swing with one of the myriad of apps that will do this and see what I'm actually doing and what I need to do to change it. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
Actually some guys get to deep with the right elbow so this “tip” would only cause them more problems. One tip that will change your driving forever? Hahaha Butch Harmon wouldn’t even make that statement because it’s not true. There is no “ONE TIP” that can fix your driving or any part of your game forever for that fact

Skipping a rock is the exact feeling
You got it! Play well!
Nice video, but when I'm doing it your way all balls are going far right. What am I doing wrong? Regards Max (Holland).

Walt
cool screen
Thanks!
That frisbee literally disappeared.....
Yes, as do the golf balls. The ball flight simulator screen is a projection inside the video. The balls and disc are hitting the impact screen absconded by the projection. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor
The childhood memory everyone can relate to: skipping a stone on a lake.
You got it. Play well!
That projector looks so good that it almost looks fake lol
That is an actual projection. If you watch the ball disappears behind it when it hits the (hidden) actual impact screen. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor
Why does it have to always be a nice little draw??? Tell me
Is that an auto flex
No, it's a HZRDUS Smoke. Play well!
i wish u started the channel 20 yrs ago...
None of this works for me
Sorry to hear that.
Thanks for sharing! Play well!
