Winger is an insanely good band and a Hall of Fame lineup. Kip Winger is an amazing front man and holds a Masters in Songwriting & Orchestration from Juliard (!), Reb Beach is a sick guitarist easily as talented as any guitarist in rock history, Rod Morgenstein regularly makes the 50 best drummers ever. Believe me, bands dont get any more talented than this. Guys who slam Kip know he's had more hot chicks than they could even dream of. Long live Winger.

But, Peter, come on....Kip's performance in this video is cringe-worthy! His voice is awesome but I think he hurt his own reputation with this performance. All that was missing was the stripper pole. Reb's playing is what made Winger bearable.
Can somebody PLEASE recognize Kip Winger as the great musician that he is. Reb Beach and Kip are a great song creating duo. Hands down they make absolutely undeniably great songs to THIS DAY. Kip on his own is so talented. Just listen to his solo albums. So good. Just LOVE his music.
People talked a lot of smack about Winger in the '90s, but I can remember Reb Beach being featured in ALL the guitar mags around the time their first album dropped.
I love how the opening/intro riff is one fret up, so when he drops down to the open string for the verse it makes it sound heavier than it should because your ear got used to thinking 1 fret higher was the bottom. A neat little trick ;)
The passion, energy, talent & charisma. Yeah, Kip Winger possessed all of that and definitely backed it up with every performance. Thirty years later he's showing no signs of slowing down, plus his talent and looks have improved.
There is nothing wrong with having the excitement in rock music or even in heavy metal. If it is OK to have depressing and suicide-inducing songs that 90s music have, upbeat tempo and high vocal range songs deserve the share of the shelves. It is called variety.
Saw them around 2004-2006 not sure when but we went kind of as a joke. Knew Reb was good but expected a fun glam show. They ripped the place apart! No effing joke. The whole place looked like a truck hit us. Couldn’t believe it. They were incredibly tight and talented. Amazing sound and again we couldn’t believe it...
These guys were no joke even at the time, lots of fans of Rush and Yes, talented bands like that. Most did not necessarily like Winger's lyrical message but, knew they could play with the best. Their shows were tight, musically as ANY ONE!
kip winger was a highly accomplished studio musician before forming winger and has since played with some of the best of the entire rock genre...this band was super talented...don't let the looks fool you...well obviously it didn't since you mentioned it ...in fact there is a new years eve performance of 17 from the late 80s on mtv and they sound better than the record...not only the music, but kips vocals literally sounded better than the album
I'm proud to own the first and second Winger albums on cds. I remember being in high school as a 16 year old guy in love with a 17 year old girl, really connecting the song 'Seventeen' to my reality. Winger is awesome.

I am 79 and have seen many bands come and go over the years. Their music has stood the test of time because they are great musicians and showmen.
