  • “How do I know if I’m taking too much T3 or T4 medication?” If the body is sensing more T4 in the body than it needs, it starts reducing the conversion of T4 to T3 in the periphery cells.
If you have excessive cell stress, the cells will downregulate the conversion of T4 to T3 due to that danger response. It doesn’t matter how much T4 you put in the system, you may still be experiencing hypothyroidism symptoms.
Ways to tell your thyroid dose is too high:
☑️ Your brain experiences hyperthyroid symptoms, while the peripheral body feels hypo - at the same exact time
☑️ TSH is dropping below 1.0
☑️ Free T3 and total T3 are too low
    ☑️ fT3-to-fT4 ratio is less than 0.31
☑️ Reverse T3 levels (not always a complete indicator)
☑️ Look at tissue indicators of thyroid hormone status (i.e. lipid panel)
Symptoms you may experience when there’s too much T4 in the brain include brain fog, insomnia, heart palpitations, a wired and tired feeling. At the same time, you can gain weight if there’s too much T4 in the bloodstream.
What is your goal with medication? For many, it’s chasing euthyroidism - returning thyroid physiology to a normal state - typically, by regulating TSH levels. However, as we’ve talked about in weeks past, a “normal” TSH doesn’t mean you’ll become asymptomatic.
Hopefully this video helped, and send me any questions or topics you would like to hear in a future educational #ThyroidThursday episode. If you haven’t already, pick up a copy of my book The Thyroid Debacle (link in my bio) and leave a review if you do!

Can you give me some sweet spot ratios for people taking Levothyroxine and liothyronine? I’m taking both but still feel like crap.
