Great information! I find my endocrinologist visits frustrating and
anytime I press for tests for vitamin deficiencies vitamin D selenium omega-3, iodine etc. she refuses. I also ask her about diet especially the elimination of gluten and I always get pushback! very frustrating! We all have to be our own health advocates!

      Susan Corso,
I had asked my first doctor for a requisition to do a vitamin D test which is not covered by OHIP (our health care system), I told him that I'll pay for it; he told me that I didn't need it. I said ok and walked out his office never to returned. I soon found another doctor and told him what I wanted and he didn't hesitate. I paid and got it done and it was low. We certainly can't depend wholly on doctors, sometimes we have to be our own advocate!

Nobody has good health insurance anymore 5, 000 dollars or $2,500 out of pocket first... It's all a system and wait till everybody finds out how bad it is everything's not real everything's fake phony and false we live in Truman show... All you can do is take care of your vitality... Know your vitality keep it up cold pressed juices very little sugar but you can use some... Thank you so much for this discussion. I’m 72 years old and have had Hashimoto’s for 40 years and have been on Synthroid all the time.
I have been eating gluten free for 6 years, eat fish and vegetables, have been on a Keto diet for 2 years and Intermittent fasting OMAD, and try to swim a mile a day. Now I started a low carb diet under 24 gm a day. I cut out all added sugar for over 3 years now.
I have had 3 total joint replacements last year, & one hip total replacements and both of my knees with total robotic replacement in June 2023 and September 2023, resuming my daily swimming now. I plan to have my left hip replaced in Spring /Summer 2024. There was a wait period after each surgery of 8 weeks when I was not allowed to go into pool water until my surgical wound was totally healed. So I was not swimming then and I gained back weight and belly fat, very quickly
I’m still losing my eyebrows, lack of energy, dry thin hair. Difficult to lose weight despite my diet.
I take Selenium, Zinc. Vitamin D, Omega 3 supplements, Pro Biotics amongst others.
    Synthroid does not work.
My goal is wellness and once my joints are replaced , I hope to increase my exercise even more.
I have been following Dr. Hyman’s podcast and am so grateful for his advice and knowledge of the recent advances in Functional Medicine. . I used to live in NC and even though I went to specialists Endocrinologists at Duke Hospital Clinic. No one ever did anything except look at my TSH and T4 values and keep me on Synthroid 137mcg.
Back in MA now, and I have an app either a thyroid specialist in Weymouth, MA. In May 2024. Which is covered by my Medicare. I am interested I. The Ultra Wellness Center now .

If they say oh we give a minipill with estrogen - heck no. Esp if your breasts are growing. You want progestin only. I take for 5 days each month when I want to cry. I was dealing with acid reflux for the past month. Was prescribed meds, and did my best to avoid taking the omeprazole and I wanted to solve the problem and not mask it. I was getting ahead of it and then it came back, constant saliva filling in my mouth. I gave up and started taking the omeprazole....then my throat started becoming sore and was losing my voice. Started feeling fatigue, dizziness, cannot get enough sleep and have been constipated for close to a week. My doctor found my symptoms hard to believe and suggested my issue was purely due to stress. I walked out of the office annoyed and just felt i wasn't getting any help. He issued a lab test for Thyroid function and vitamin deficiency. Sure enough my TSH was .25 and he called me immediately the next day. Prescribed me 2 medications and has a set me up an appointment with a endocrinologist. Im glad i have been pointed in the right direction and not just waved off "you are just suffering from anxiety". This has been very informative and I am glad I watched this. gluten and casein are molecular mimics to thyroid protein. due to this, they can trigger autoimmunity of the thyroid. gluten may be a large problem due to the inability human bodies to enzymatically break it down in the gut completely, causing small openings (look up zonulin), for small peptides to pass thru. most (70%) healthy people will reclose those openings, but chronic exposure (eating it for every meal & snacking - standard american diet) & other trauma will cause leaky gut leading to inflammation & possibly allergic/sensitivity reactions. FM's have found that their autoimmune or thyroid patients must avoid gluten for them to heal & their symptoms to resolve.

It happened to me, and it took a doctor twenty five years to decide to check my thyroid (at last) to find out why my weight was so high. I knew the cause but doctors weren't listening to me. I had my thyroid removed when I was 28 because I had a goitre and it was growing quickly. Afterwards I always felt tired, no energy, weight gain, feeling cold, hair thinning, weak nails, lost interest in work, hobbies etc but I never thought it had anything to do with my op as it came on gradually. A couple of years after the op I had to go to the doctors for something unrelated and it was my doctor who picked up on me looking tired. She advised me to have my bloods taking and I was prescribed levothyroxine, I’m 63 now and still on these meds. If I ever stop taking them (which I have done occasionally over the years) all these symptoms come back. My hair never recovered, nails are long and strong now, weight came off but I still get 24:30 tired quickly. The feeling of cold never went away even when taking the meds but once I went through the menopause my body temperature seems better (don’t know if its just a coincidence) I don’t feel cold anymore. With talking to my doctor over the years she told me the thyroid is such an important organ and has always insisted on taking your meds. In the U.K. certain meds are prescribed free and thyroid drugs are one of these, that’s because they are so important for your body to function properly. Also long term with an under active thyroid untreated can age you, not just your appearance but organs inside.

Many yrs later mY Dr. retired and I was then placed on synthroid against my better judgement. I explained that it didn't work on me. I left that Dr. who treated me like I was an idiot (to be perfectly honest my mental function was slowing down and I knew I had to get the proper treatment) I found a Funtional Dr who has turned my life around. I m starting to feel like myself again and she's treating my brain/gut system as well. You have to have or be your own advocate.

I have many of these symptoms. I am 67 and am constantly getting hot and cold. I have low body temperature. Always tired, no libido, aches and pains, Fibromyalgia, no ends to my eyebrows, thinning hair, digestive issues , depression brain fog, bad sleep, overweight. My thyroid tests always come back normal . I also had some parathyroids removed. I get weird body pains. The doctors here have done nothing for me. I live in Central NJ. What doctors can I see who will actually look to making me well?

I've had the opposite problem. I was hot all my life. I need constantly fresh air and cooling. I could never jog or run long distances. In school I had one of the worst ratings in sports there is. My knees always felt weak and soft. I couldn't stand for more than 5 minutes on a spot without getting dizzy or having the feeling of collapsing. My resting heart rate has been over 80 all my life. I had times where I'd need 14-15 hours of sleep for weeks then couldn't sleep more than 6-7 and never felt rested. Went from jumpy and anxious to lethargic and no energy to even make my own food. It went to the point that when I started strength training I could bench 90 kg, deadlift 100 but only squat 45. And my legs would feel like they will stop functioning for days even weeks after that. Then 2 years ago after a big psychological stress event I couldn't sleep at all for weeks, a few weeks in I got resting heart rate of 140-160 which wouldn't go away at any time at night. Couldn't climb one stair anymore because my knees and legs were giving in. Perma fight or flight mode and I was stardled/jumpscared every 5-10 seconds for days on end. I had a constant feeling of somebody standing behind me and jumping me at any time. Yet my TSH was in normal range, it even was on the high end and they told me I'm close to hypothyroidism and the doctors everywhere told me my thyroid is normal... Until one doctor measured t4 and it was really really really high. Once I got on thyroid surpressants it all went better fast and for the first time in 20 years a lot of my symptoms have vanished and only occur once my thyroid is not in balance. I finally can tolerate summer up to a normalish point like everyone else. My legs got stronger. My motivation came back, my depression cleared, my social anxiety got better. I still need to take a certain dose sometimes more sometimes less. I dose it by feeling and I now recognise hyper and hypo symptoms very easily.

I have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, along with osteoarthritis 😢, I started following Goodbye Lupus dr Brooke Goldner, and she encourages tons of raw crucif vegetables, blenders of kale smoothies! I have been doing that for almost 2 years, but I’m not a raw vegan. Just incorporated lots of raw foods, veggies and fruits in my diet. I wasn’t eating much meat. I lost lots of muscle mass, and made me feel weak. In the past few months , I added back more meat and less oats, ( I was eating plain sugar free oatmeal daily ) but I’ve been taking bits of your diet, your program and I’m back to work , but I’m still in chronic pain. All my blood work was normal and showed no autoimmune diseases

I challenge you both to read the transcript of this podcast. You were talking so fast, I couldn't keep up, so I went to the transcript. And I was totally shocked at the written word versus what you said. It's like speaking in two different languages. May I humbly suggest that you slow down and enunciate clearly every word. You know what you are talking about, but we are not always familiar enough about your subject to truly understand your message. You might also notice how many filler words are used. Your message is no good if it can't be understood. I truly appreciate what you are doing and your message today was so important. I've been treated by an Endocrinologist for years, first for Type II diabetes, then for my thyroid. I've come to realize he is treating my lab results, instead of my symptoms, which have never improved while under his care, for far too many years. And I was uninformed enough not to challenge him on why I was not feeling any better. I've learned enough now to seek out a functional medicine doctor. I'm hoping that at 72, I can finally feel good enough to actually enjoy my golden years. I sincerely thank you for that! I apologize if I have offended you, but my motto has always been honesty and I seriously doubt whether anyone has ever been this direct with you. I hope you accept what I say as it is only intended to improve the relationship between you and your listeners.

After 3 years of weird symptoms I’m finally having a thyroid ultrasound tomorrow. I also ordered my own blood tests for: (reading off the form)
    - TSH
    - free T4
    - free T3
    - T3
    - anti TPO
    - DHEA-S
    - progesterone
    - LH
    - FSH
    - cortisol
    - IGF 1
    - prolactine
    - oestradiol
    - jodium
I’ve had swollen lymph nodes for 3 years, fatigue, depression, malaise, forgetfulness, muscle/joint pain, weight gain, puffy face, nerve pain near the lymph nodes, fluid retention in legs and arms, breathlessness, ribs/chest tender to touch… the list goes on and on. I finally decided to push through when I started to get pressure near my thyroid every time I ovulated. It comes back every month and it keeps me up at night because I can’t lie down on my back.
    Weird things keep popping up.
Also a side note, my mom has Hashimoto’s and rheumatoid arthritis.
Is an ultrasound and these blood panels enough to diagnose me? Could it be missed? Would an MRI be helpful? I am so sick and tired of always being sick and tired. Thank you for reading ❤️

I have had bloods Tsh that came back normal in GP standards but I insisted on an ultrasound - immune cells were present so thyroid was inflamed which has given me the diagnosis.. and now the doctor has a good reason to request T3 and T4 bloods also so they can’t say no now to approving them as when an ultrasound. Ones back showing what mine did they have to approve more bloods x

Clearly that's a roadblock set up by the medical administration. I've got all those symptoms and have had for half my life (I'm 75). Nobody cares because my tsh is okay. Oh, except when it was 14.5 (most recent reading) which, I'm told, "isn't in a dangerous range, just take a little more levo."

I use to take it with my other medication and with Premarin. I realized that it was too much hormones and was getting all the symthoms of hyperthyroid. I felt terrible. I’ve been talking about my symptoms…. So RUclips recommended this video. Last week I accidentally discovered the military base pharmacy now carried Armour thyroid. 12 years ago I was paying a voodoo guy who met me at Narnes and Noble for a prescription for desiccated pig thyroid carried by one pharmacy in town. I paid out of pocket for all of it but then I spent months caring for my father who passed from cancer. It fell off my radar as I was sad. I’m frustrated because I knew it helped! I’ve been trying every vitamin, mineral, probiotic etc and have had some success but it wasn’t dependable. I could not make plans because I didn’t know how I would feel. I am hopeful for the first time in a long time. My dr gave me Armour a week ago and we have to get the dose correct. I have aqua nodules they are watching. Is there anything else I need to do? I already avoid soy and raw cruceferous veggies. I take vit D among other stuff.

Got put on synthroid 26 years ago when I gave birth to my daughter. I Generally take 100-112 mg of it. However this month I took a trip to the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack and they took my blood and said I didn’t have a heart attack hmmm asked if they could check my TSH levels low and behold it is .27 LOW. My doc just lowered my meds to 88 mg. Apparently under active thyroid can cause panic attacks making you think it’s a heart attack. I now have to wonder why I went from under active to over active and where do I go from here? I hate the heart palpitations and feeling like my head is Gonna blow off my head at times with pressure, hair loss and fatigue. Does this sound like something you have ever worked with? Maybe I should get off altogether and see what happens. I am a retired cop so yes lots of stresses along with kids. I’m so confused at the moment. Oh and low blood pressure. I asked my doctor for a full thyroid panel, including both antibodies testing, he didn't have not one problem with it. I have a great doctor! Only thing with him, he doesn't think I need Testosterone, I think I do.. we're doing the testing for that also.. for menopause!

what would be your approach for someone who like me, who has been on levothyroxine since I was a child and am now 37 continues to feel CRUMMY but when I approach my doctor they just go by regular testing, then I try to request an endocrinologist the doctor just says that's not neccessary because of my "regular results". The depression just gets worse and worse and I refuse to give take the anxiety/depression because I feel like it's just a band-aid and my thyroid is the root. It's a cycle where I have to look things up on RUclips for help and insight, so I am thankful for these videos and the fact that you DO the work for your patients but how can patients find a dedicated doctor like yourselves?

Good ol' Synthroid. 👍 My count was 16. I was wondering why I couldn't form a sentence, needed a nap an hour after I got up, losing my hair and was just outright feeling like shite. Synthroid 75 mg set me straight along with keto food.

This gives me so much hope. For years no one's been able to figure out my symptoms 😞 not until I mentioned I was suicidal did someone listen to me and decide to check my thyroid.

@@bluejasmin8424 how high was your number? Be sure to take brand name like Synthroid. Generic doesn't help at all. My two cousins also say that.
