I bought a Hasselblad Stellar when it was heavily discounted, which is a Sony RX100 first edition. I love this little camera, even ten years later, it is still a great camera for everyday carry around.
@ALWH1314: Your RX100 lasted 10 years? That is a real feat. I had a Canon S100 that died after 1 year & a few months after the 1-year warranty expried, and Canon wanted an arm and 2 legs to repair it. I also had Panasonic Lumix ZS50, and it died still within the 2 year factory warranty period but Panasonic's warranty contractor refused to repair because they claim I abused it, so more Panasonic Zumix cameras for me, they are a PITA. So far my Sony RX100-7 is still going strong after 4 years. I have used it heavily, and I highly recommend it and is well worth every penny. There are rumors that Sony is bringing out a -8 version of this camera, and I will give it serious thoughts about buying. There was a rumors that the major camera companies was going to discontinue P&S camera, which turned out to be unfounded; it seems that there is a surge in interest for P&S cameras from Tic-Tokers.
RX100 III still my preferred travel camera (14k shots in)... I simply do not want to carry my Pentax gear while travelling. The RX100 has given me perfect BW processed images too.
I have a Nikon DSLR, which I still use occasionally, but my "walking around" camera has been an RX-100 for years. It fits in my pocket, produces excellent image quality, is easy to use, and has been completely reliable. Hard to ask for more from a camera this small. The RX-100 series has been a revelation.
An excellent video, clear and concise. I bought the mk1 in 2012 and it’s still my go to camera when out for a walk. It produces clear, detailed images and easily fits in a jacket pocket.
Thanks! The mk1 is a great camera - I find that the longer I use any camera, the better results I get! Great to hear yours is still going strong 12 years later
I bought the very first RX100 and recently the VII, what a huge difference in performance, but the RX100 still takes wonderful pictures. I love the form factor and performance of these cameras!
Good comparison of the models. I started with a mint condition second hand IV when I was looking for a pocketable camera with good image quality for skiing. It had to fit into a ski jacket pocket unobtrusively. Then on a whim, the following season I upgraded to a VA. Then on another whim in 2023 I wanted longer reach so upgraded to a VII. The trade-in offer for the VA was not good, so I just kept it. Now the VA is my low light option, the VII is my sports option. Great pair (VA+VII): light; excellent IQ; and convenient. On winter skiing (and summer hiking) holidays this combo is all I need. Notwithstanding the march of the phone camera IQ, I hope they continue this line with two parallel models, one with a fast lens 24-70/f2.8 lens and one with a longer, but slower telephoto lens and both with sensor, AF and other upgrades as technology improves, but I doubt this will is going to happen.
Thanks for sharing - and I agree, that's a great pairing! Unfortunately Sony has probably decided that it's the end of the line for the series. Hopefully the models out there will continue ticking for years to come.
Thank you! This video was extremely helpful. You touched on the most important point and even provided a good price range for each. You are truly a professional and much appreciated
I got the original RX100 in 2012 when in India as the price there was amazing. I then waited a number of years and got the Va version which was far better and then decided on the RX100 Vii when I dropped the VA. I still have to consider those two models as I liked the f1.8 and felt that going to f2.8 just for the extra length was not necessarily the best for me as I liked the better low light performance. I love the camera and always wished that since it was the same size as the RX1 that they could have gone one step more and made it an APC sized sensor and offer two discrete lens say a 24-70 and a 70- 200 or 70-150. I sometimes get a vignetting effect on the photos at 200mm. However, I still love this camera as a travel and shoot and have 6 spare batteries! Loved your comparison.
Incredible breakdown, thank you!! I'm super curious about Sony's multi-interface hot shoe compatibility in the MKII with present (2023) day accessories. There's a lot of new gear since its release. 🤔
Thanks! I have no experience with that multi-interface hot shoe, unfortunately. Best bet is to do a internet forum discussion search for what kind of accessory you're thinking of pairing with it
Unless you find an amazing deal on the III or IV, I would always recommend ponying up the additional cash for a V or Va, and even then I would hesitate to even recommend the III at all. Phase detect autofocus is such a massive game changer and the stacked sensor even-moreso.
Amazing and informative video! I always find something great on your channel! Because of this video, I want an RX100 camera for travel (hopefully soon), I know sony is focusing on their vlogging cameras these days but there is no denying, they seem to make great premium compacts with flagship features. I appreciate the comparison and summary of each, Crazy to think that with an RX100 VA (24-70) and RX100 VII (24-200), you can basically do pocket sports or wedding photography 😂 crazy stuff!
Thanks for your support as always :) I'd definitely try to handle one in person before buying (or buy with a return policy) because while these cameras are packed with features, they're not going to win awards for handling or ergonomics. Many find them fiddly in practice! For anything outside casual/walkaround/travel use, I definitely prefer using something with interchangeable lenses
My MkV has served me well. Not quite APS-C quality, but gram for gram it certainly wins. I recommend a screen protector from the start as the screen now looks like a sandpapered oil slick, even taking care of it. Got the 'AG-R2' grip and it feels great, should be built in from the factory honestly. Also, the high-speed video may be a bit niche, but in the high-speed camera world these are the most affordable for the quality(unless you drop $4k for a Chronos).
Thanks for sharing! Great points about the screen protector and grip. I see so many with scratched up screens on the used market. I tried using Sony's camera case but found it to be a bit bulky in practice - the AG-R2 grip sounds like a better idea.
Im toying with the idea of upgrading my iv to a 6 purely on reach but i just cant let go of my iv. The photos i get out of it are absolutely superb. Going to just try cropping in LR mobile edition to try and mimic a bit more reach and see how i get on. Thanks for the great informative vid. Take care
Thanks for watching! If you ever need more resolution and have the time/patience, you could also try running your favorite pictures through AI upscaling post-crop, it's very good these days. The IV is a great one, I'd also find it difficult to let go!

The battery drain from NFC being on should be very low, so it's not a big deal I think. In any case, you can turn it off by setting the camera to Airplane Mode
Each and every RX100 drives circles around the ugly files coming out of smartphones. Your claim comes up so often, but ones you used one of these and compare the images, you realize that smartphones are still just software. The level of quality that you get out of a RX, is something totally different. Since there is the option of AI denoise in Lightroom etc. the RX is skyrocketing in terms of image quality. You can put an ISO 100 image and put it next to an APS-C even at 1:1 and I can tell you, you will have a hard time to see what is what. Put a Smartphone image next to an APS-C and you will directly know what is what.

@@lensvana I agree but I am used to "bad prices" because I live in Brazil, so we don't have a great distribution here, plus taxes etc. Believe it or not, this is a MUCH better deal than buying anything new. By a mile.
@@fbaraky660 Ahhhh Brazil, now I understand :) I have heard all the stories about how much electronics cost over there. In that case - $400 is a good deal as long as the camera is working fine!
Hi I have a deal for a Sony RX100 mark 3 (priced 21000 bdt) and Sony a6000 (priced 45000 bdt) with kit lens
I'm on a budget which one should I get?
Those are two very different cameras - plenty of people own both! I'd go for the a6000, but I don't know what you're planning to take pics of
@@lensvana just everyday use, thanks for your suggestion! I think a6000 makes more sense for long term
Please advise me, I bought a RX100 mark 3, everything is great, but I can't understand why I always have the NFC icon on the screen, is this the case? Or is there any way to turn it off? Thanks
The battery drain from NFC being on should be very low, so it's not a big deal I think. In any case, you can turn it off by setting the camera to Airplane Mode
@@lensvana oh for real, thank u so much!!
You need to buy the rubber grip, ~$15
Flash is the most important wth are Sony doing apsc with flash??????
need 10 extra batteries
Mk1’s are becoming sought after
Yea there's been a rush on all good compacts it seems
Just because it's original?
@@keithlittle293 Nah just because it's a compact camera, all of them seem to be in high demand
Great vis, buy new mic
Thanks! Mark 5 is on the way ;)
Great choice!
New flagship phones make this sort of point and shoot very difficult to justify
At this point even the second hand prices are a bit wild for this camera series. Otherwise, I always prefer to use a dedicated camera
@Benjamin_Jehne OK Ben, I won't argue, I'll let the sales numbers and history settle it
@@sun-man Sales numbers don’t represent quality. The magic word is convinience. Convinience is the reason why we eat cheap and fast shit. It’s the same thing with photography today.
@@Benjamin_JehneConvinience eh? OK champ, take it easy.
