With the ZV1M2 out now, do we think the RX100 is truly dead? The RX100 seems like the camera for me, but i really think I will regret not having something with better low light performance. I am tempted to go after the Zv1M2 even though i do hardly any video work, because of the extra stop or two gained for low light. I am selling my A6500 to downsize my kit now that I have two kids, so i already know i will be losing low light performance compared to what I am used to.
You almost never see an affordable point and shoot with the side flip out screen. At first I was pushed back by it but the more I think about it, I'd say that's an upgrade. Screen will remain protected when not in use. Mechanical parts less likely to break during heavy use. Probably not the best for vloggers but it wouldn't be that hard to get used to. Just look into the lens when vlogging, and occasionally check framing when needed.
I like the ZV1 .. but I wouldn't consider the little remote/tripod gadget ... no use for that, and it costs too much for what it offers. Great Review and Comparison!!
wish there was a version of zv1 with a viewfinder and a flip upscreen instead of the one flipping to the side. Oh, and the ring. Basically, I wish they returned the zv1 lens on the new rx100
Excellent comparison, and all in one take?! I have both the RX100VII and ZV1 (in white) coming in tomorrow 😄I see the ZV1 as a B camera to my ZV-E10 and the VII as a street photography/video camera with some vlogging here and there. 40% off their original prices was a good incentive.
I shoot 95% stills and Love a viewfinder vs no viewfinder. The video performance is better in the Zv1 but I would rather have a rx100vii in that case. Best of both worlds.
Absolute rubbish. The side hinged pull out flippity floppity screen is slow, cumbersome, obtrusive and conspicuous. Most photographers hate this screen.
Absolute rubbish? Nah, a flip out screen is better. You have more range and more options even if it does take an extra 0.03 seconds to flip out. The hinged screens are old, have more points where they can break, have limited mobility, and you have to tuck the screen in when going all the way up or down. There’s no thinking with a side flip display and it allows you to fold the display screen-side into the camera adding further protection without the need for a screen protector.
@@P_Devil84 I never even thought of the screen protection aspect. Might change my mind now. I was dead set on the 180 degree flip up for vlogging now I'm not so sure.
Hi L, unfortunately they are not the same lens: the ZV-1 lens is indeed narrower... which makes a lot of sense for a vlogging camera, right? ;) Having said that it is still a phenomenal camera that is growing on me day after day.
Hi Ed, I’ve been watching your videos for a long time, always great reviews. I prefer the better lens of the RX100 VA, do you know if Sony will release an update to the RX100 VA with the better autofocus? Could you ask your contact at Sony if they have plans on updating the RX100 VA? I know RUclipsrs have been asking for something like the ZV-1 for a long time, but I don’t like that type of display or the lack of a built-in flash and I want an updated autofocus to the RX100 m4 that I dropped (broke) a year ago. I use the RX100 series camera as most people would use their cell phone’s camera. I love the ability to always have a camera with me. I can carry multiple batteries, an extra SD Card and no one really notices the RX100 as a small step below a professional camera when taking selfies or quick portraits. Sony could add the weird Fuji tilt when taking a portrait orientated show low to the ground, but would be nit-picking. The slower lenses of the mark 6 and mark 7 don’t interest me at all. A friend of mine bought the RX100 m7 and while it’s a great camera, if I’m spending close to $1,000 I should get the updated autofocus.
The lens speed in the rx100M7 does not really concern me, I used a 3.5 prime for 15 years. At iso ranges under 800 result in excellent image quality so the 1 stop advantage is easy to overcome. I primarily shoot stills so the video is secondary. I have used the rx100 iv and the viewfinder is. a big priority and advantage for me, especially in bright sky outdoor conditions.
Agreed. You can tell the reviewers that got one for free because the title mentions 'Perfect Vlogging Camera...' & makes me click-away as it's not a genuine opinion, but positive to ensure future free products
0:56 I am an old follower of your videos, but immediately even without watching any further, just looking at the the two cameras, I'd pick without hesitation the VA on the left, because it is smaller and doesn't have that ugly duckling cylindrical grip hump. Now, I am going on watching ... 2:14 Hmm, a state of the art microphone, MI shoe, no mode dial on the ZV1, I like them, but that defocus button, what the heck, is that a gimmick, or what? Watching further ... 2:54 wow, plastic ZV1 and metal VA plus the VA has EVF, that explains the higher price. 3:12 (a beautiful metal) ring on the lens, wow another plus for VA. 6:31 First time for may years seeing your face. 7:59 Real time tracking in video, that is huge for ZV1. I prefer the screen of VA, but the swingout screen is perfect for portrait low angle photography. 9:24 I love videography via EVF, too, so I simply kept the rubber eyecup on the EVF while on the shoot and remove it only when going home. Is there any eye cup at all that can be easy to mount and unmount?
It's a point and shoot man...the tiny RX100 with the viewfinder looks ridiculous when you hold it up to your eye. Plus the EVF is garbage resolution wise.
@@cosmiqueorg Using a viewfinder is more about helping to frame a shot. It could be vga and still function in it's intended use. For a lot of people, putting the camera up to their eye is part of the workflow, not to mention that it nearly assures that you are holding the camera properly (Elbows touching your torso). I had a 110 camera that was a lot smaller than the rx cameras, and that had a viewfinder. I don't think it looks ridiculous at all.
@@herranton Indeed! A camera up to the face and arms in close is WAY MORE stable than shooting with arms extended out more. And if shooting outside in bright sunlight, the flippy screen is tough to see for composing shots.
I have the sony RX100 V. Use it mainly for video. The zv1 worth the upgrade? I like the idea of having a mic to capture ambient sound...but not sure if it's worth getting a whole new camera....
I’m so torn between these two! I do a lot of video AND photography for concerts, but also other stuff for businesses and also creating content for social media and would like to upgrade from my phone… I can’t decide which one to get!! 😭
I’m right there with you! I’ve been asking around and most photographers praise the VA for its greater max aperture and superior lowlight performance. I do concert photography and use my DJI Pocket Osmo for video, but the M VII and ZV1 are still so tempting with their awesome video capabilities. Forever a victim to decision fatigue with so many great cameras on the market😭

Hey buddy, I'm gonna be recording videos in my home office and uploading them to RUclips a few times a week. Also at some point, I'm gonna be doing RUclips live videos. Now besides RUclips. Don't know how old some of these may be. But anyhow, if you can help me get it down to 1 or 2. I'd appreciate it. Thx buddy!
They are both different tools and both good cameras. Putting aside cost I'd buy the RX100 as it offers more for the Stills photographer.

@305PROTEIN I made a how-to video for the A6400 to an iPad but it'll work with the ZV-1 to iPhone. ruclips.net/video/nVvJaiSuPBA/видео.html

A less expensive, more up-to-date, more capable, more feature rich camera. The ZV-1. Buying it. Thank you.

But lose the aperture and low light performance...? On me i wouldnt be so sure... but if you're willing to go without that then it'd be fine
How can be the same lens if rx100 is 8.8-25,7mm and zv1 9,4-25,7mm?
oh crap you're right
A flip-out screen will always be better for stills. It's easier to compose low portrait orientation shots. Tilt screen is limited.

Flip-out screen is worse for stills due to parallax and low portrait shots are not flattering at all. Who wants to look up nostrils?
Now in 2024 with the hybrid world the ZV-1 does it for me for the record button position and mic input. No mic input on the VA is killer for video.
The RX100VA has a larger buffer depth. 103 RAW
The. Rx100 lens indicates 8.8 mm at the wide end vs 9.4 on the ZV-1. So are the lenses the same? It would appear not.

The AF on the VA and mk7 is flawless.
So, do you recommend the RX100VA over the ZV-1?
I like the video functionality of the ZV-1 but I'm looking for a camera also good in photography.
How's the battery life on the 100?

rx100m5A which does have thefaster AF, tracking, eye AF, is not the m5. Not sure why you are pretending to compare the m5A.
That was exactly the question i had, ZV1 or RX100VA. I dont like the newer RX100 with the super zoom
Looking forward to getting mine to supplement my video shipping soon looks like a great little 4K package
Build quality between x100 and zv1 is night and day
Nice comparison.
I thought, the rx100va could do 24fps RAW 150frames ? So the ZV-1 just handles 77frames ?
They supposedly have the same zoom range, but why on the lens the rx100va says 8.0-25.7 and the zv-1 says 9.4-25.7?
Yeah I'm trying to figure that out as well
Also I feel the zv1 autofocus is actually a bit faster than the rx100VII, especially in video mode
Sony rx100va is better for price point.
Especially if you can find the open box versions
My priority is for still photography. Which one I should buy zv1 or RX 100 vii?

RX100VA
Can you so in camera double exposures with the ZV1? Is there stabilization for stills in the ZV1? Thanks for a nice comparison video!!!
