In this video I compare the Sony ZV1 vs A6100. I show you sample images, sample footage, and try to tell you everything you need to know to make a decision. I tell you what these cameras do well, what they're really bad at, and what camera would be best for you. I also setup each camera in my studio setup to see which is better as a RUclips camera. If you're starting a RUclips channel or thinking about it, this will be the perfect video to see what camera you should buy. Please subscribe! Cheers
A6100 is anything but “Pocketable” lol
Been saying that for a while. It is just marketing and price, soon as you go past the zv 1 and Rx is not longer a pocket camera. May as well carry any camera on a bag
I have the a6400. Great camera and has the viewfinder. Problem is I don't want to take it anywhere. Rx100 costs too much for me to worry about damaging. Got the zv-1 used, mint condition, for under $400. Loving it and take it everywhere. A photcentric version should have the pop up flash, but I can live with it for that price. I am a hobby photographer.
If you wear JNCO.
A very late comment. The 6100 does not fit in a jeans pocket and the ZV-1 is more blog orientated, so only one winner there. About 3 seconds to say what took him 15 minutes.
To me they are all very specific. For travel hands down the rx100 is the winner. The focal length and evf are just too important to not only capture wider scenes but details of places and having the evf to take AND review your photos is crucial.
The zv1 for blogging is perfect basically aside from the not so wide lens but that can be fixed.
The 6100 would be for someone planning on a bit more pro work or wanting the extra jump on quality and not minding brining a few lenses to cover the focal ranges.
Wider scenes? They both the same, RX100 and ZV1 have a 22mm lens no?
@@AexoeroV when u use active stabilisation it crops the video
The ZV-1 and the Rx100 vii have the same wide lens of 24mm. The benefits of the 24 - 70mm on the ZV-1 is the f1.8 to 2.8 which is a full stop faster than the RX100 vii, but that lens is nice with the zoom out to 120mm. It's the price that does in the RX100 vii for me!!! At $1300 it's just too much money for what it is. The ZV-1 is essentially the same camera and they can both do the exact same things, the ZV-1 is more geared for video but shoots photos just as well as the Rx100 vii, where as the RX100 vii isn't as easy to shoot video as the ZV-1 is. At $750 retail for the ZV-1 it's, like he said, the true winner as it's a whopping $550 less than the RX100 vii and can do the exact same things but zoom to 200mm, but shoots in lower light.
I own the A6000, very similar to the A6100 and that kit lens. That's my problem right now in a nutshell! The size of the A6000/6100 is not pocket-able, and the kit lens is kind lousy. Trying to come up with a tiny other lens is really hard to find...really impossible, and that 16mm f1.4 is not gonna cut it as an only walk around lens. It's huge, and makes the whole camera way too big! ... and only very wide angle. Hmmmmmm!
Great video, super helpful even years later!
@13:40 ZV-1 is not 24 MP, it is 20 MP.
Thank you! I’m looking for something small to take to concert and while on vacation
The RX100 series is perfect for that. I'm hoping they drop. new one soon
Hi Dominic, between A6100 (basic lens kit) and ZV1 what would you recommend for videos? My videos would be shoot in controlled enviroment (lights and all). You said overall ZV1 is better but for controlled static enviroment A6100 is the way to go. But is that a case if you use basic lens kit for A6100? Should I just go with ZV1? Please I would really appreciate some help :)
Kit lens sucks! No matter if you have lighting. A modern Smartphone could output better video than kit lens
Bro you gone make me cash out on that Zv1. 😂 it's beautiful 4k makes it an attractive option. Sony beats Canon when it comes to video. My opinion and others.
I love that little camera. lol I'm going to shoot that thing till the sensor falls off!
@@DominicPhillip 🤣🤣
Hi what do you think which to chose.
I want sep up from galaxy s21 photos quality to better quality. Mostly I need upgrade for photography on vacations. want to travel light and have a good pocket camera.
So I'm thinking about rx100 vii or sacrifice a size and get zv-e10+ sigma 28-70mm 2.8.
Will this sacrifice in size give way better quality photos? And also I want to get best Jpeg quality straight out of camera, don't want to spend time sitting and editing photos.
Please recommend something:)
Shooting jpeg changes a lot. I actually really like the rx100 line for size and convenience. I carry that way more than something like the zve10. Even though the zve10 is better quality, you may use it less because of size\weight.
Hey man great info...just looking into cameras beyond a cell phone, and action cameras... Sony has always been my fave electronic gear so this helps.
A big question not around these cameras is what lighting do you use? And how do have it set up? It looks absolutely perfect!
I see you saw my lighting video for the godox. That’s all I use for these vids currently.
@@DominicPhillip Yep watched a bunch of your vids...you have the nicest, cleanest look on here and that's saying a lot as there is a LOT of lighting vids. You also are one of the best speakers bud...clear, precise, great sounding voice..you should get into voice acting/audio book narrating :)
You said you can't get 24-200mm anywhere else. The Panasonic Lumix ZS100 and ZS200 offer more than that. 25-250 and 26-360 respectively and they cost much less than the Sony RX100 VII.
This is true, but I should have been more clear. I was referring to a zoom with a F2.8 aperture. The zooms on the ZS line are a much lower quality which is why they can have such a vast range.
Hey Dom what do you think of the ZV-E10 or whatever they are calling the next generation of the ZV-1?
I like the rumors, but I don’t know if it’s necessary. I don’t think vloggers and youtubers need or want this camera. I think all they need to do is make a wider zv1 with better battery life and it would sell like crazy
This is very very useful! I’m deciding between RX100 or ZV1, in their latest iteration. I need something that I can whip out easily as I’m do a lot of adventure videography; trekking mountains, rafting, abseiling, etc. any other advise you can offer will help! Thanks again dude!
RX for photos and ZV for video. It depends on what you do more. Also, do you really need a viewfinder? If so, go RX
@@DominicPhillip thanks man! I went out and bought the ZV… on my journey to the next level of video making
DANG!! That’s how you do a review. Keeps you engaged with material that matters from start to finish! 👏
Great content bro. way underrated
Thank you Mohammed. I appreciate you brotha 🙏🏽✌🏽
I have the rx100m7. Its still the winner in my books. It wipes the floor as far as reach over the zv1. And its active stabilization (or gyro dats stabe) smokes the a6100. To give the the a6100 equal reach will drive the prices into a similar range. I totally agree that its Achilles heel is low light performance. It needs adequate light.
Hi Gerald, the rx is a great little camera, and definitely a winner if you need that flexibility and range. Thanks for watching
Doesn't ZV-1 do everything that rx-100 vii can given zv1 has a better aperture range? If that much zoom or viewfinder isn't a priority, aren't you just getting more features on ZV-1 (like ND filter, better colour Science, product showcase, flip out screen, better audio) that too at almost half the price? And when it comes to photography aren't they going to be a near tie given the sensors are same and lenses are almost same ? Does it make sense to spend double the amount to get an rx100 vii with lesser features? I'm genuinely curious as I'm considering between these two cameras for my next purchase.
@@vishnubeji7655 In my opinion no, that's why in my video I put the Rx in 3rd here. haha Although the ZV is a fantastic camera (especially for the price), you still are limited in zoom range. If you need something beyond that range you have to look elsewhere.
That is true. My a6100 with Sony e18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 cost the same as the RX 100 VII. However, the low light capability of the a6100 with the Sony e18-135 far exceeds what the RX100 VII can do. I have used them side by side, the difference is striking even for video. But for portability, RX100 has the edge.
@@CoolKid-yb8gs what about video stabilization for video vlog in 6100 with this e18-135? Is it ok to use for dynamic action vlog?
Hi Dominic, I am an actress and I am searching for a camera for self tape videos. I usually shoot with the front camera of my iPhone 12 Pro, because I need to see what I'm framing, but the quality gets really poor. I don't intend to switch lenses, and I always record the videos at home. The most important, the camera has to easily connect to my phone or computer so I can quickly send the videos for the producers. That said, which camera would you recommend? Thank you so much!
Check out the Sony ZV-1F. It's perfect for your needs and it's quite affordable considering. Hope this helps and best of luck.
thank you so much!!
RX can do better stills than ZV-1 at all, or they are basically the same for stills? besides the zoom.
they have the exact same sensor, the ZV has an updated color science and a better lens overall (IMO). So actually if you don't use the viewfinder I'd argue the ZV takes better pics.
If I want a compact camera for street photography/family trips/concerts which one would you reco? I'm still a beginner, and deciding between RX100VII / RX100VI or the fuji x100v.
I'd check out the Ricoh GRiii for street and family type photos. The lens isn't a zoom but the pic quality is insane! Out of your choices, I'd go fuji X100V. I own that camera and LOVE it, but again no zoom.
Sony cybershot Rx100 VII or a GoPro11 creator kit?
I’d go rx100 for sure. Much more versatile
@@DominicPhillip you just got yourself a bee subscriber. Thank you
@@DominicPhillip what do you think of the ene ZV 1f that is soon to be released?
So for Video bloggers Zv 1?
yes for sure, or zv1f.
How's the manual focus on the RX100 VII? The ZV1 II has terrible manual focusing feature, but it looks like there's a ring around the lens on the RX100 so is that usable for focusing?
Yes
Zv1 best for concert video and photos? Just as a fan not press.
probably. If it's photo only though I'd probably go rx100 series for extra zoom
To anyone wondering zv1 is a more affordable rehoused rx100 mk4 with no flash , the rx100 mk7 sensor and newer processor. Zv1 mk2 belongs in the trash .
Why zv1 ii in trash
@@cashmerethepup no buit in nd , slower lens with a shorter focal distance.
@@BaldRavenHaired it does have built in nd tho
@@cashmerethepup my bad , I forgot about that. But still doesn't justify the 150usd price increase. For that money u can get zv e10
@@BaldRavenHaired should I buy the zv1 ii, wait for iii, buy rx100 vii, or wait for the viii
Great comparison!
Hello, I’m looking for a camera to bring with me to concerts to photograph with. I’m looking for something smaller that security won’t question while I’m walking in and has a decent zoom. I’m usually within the first few rows and like more portrait style shots. I want to start printing out some of my photos to 18x24 and I feel that my iPhone 12 Pro camera won’t produce a good enough quality for this. So for this scenario, of these three cameras, what would you recommend?
Hey Tommy, well most venues won’t let you bring in interchangeable lens cameras. So you’re really limited here. I’d definitely look at the Sony Zv1 or Sony Rx100 VII as your best options. Although those done do too well in low light. If you can get through with an interchangeable lens than get an m50 ok or zve10. Both are small in inconspicuous. Hope that helps
A6100 body and lens is HUUUGE in comparison to RX100!
Overall, Sony RX-100 is the best series of travel cameras ever made. It is a shame they stopped introducing new models some 4 years ago.
The key to successfully using the small RX-100 is in mastering the ways to overcome its limited low-light and limited dynamic range. Fortunately the camera offers some handy tools such as multiexposure noise reduction (for low light), HDR (for dynamic range and lowlight too) and DRO (for dynamic range). Without mastering these tools, the camera is really limited because of the drawbacks of the sensor size.
Why would that feature be in bigger bodies and why would that be better? 🤣 0:50 How would a pop viewfinder be implemented on like a Sony a7? 🤣🤣
Just wishful complaining. Lol
I bought the a6000 several years ago but took it back and bought the rx100v. The v is a great camera, loved to use it and could easily print 11 x 14 prints. I then wanted to get back to full frame so I bought a used a7 and put the 24-135 G lens on it. I liked it a lot but found that I no longer wanted to haul around lenses and a tripod so I bought the rx100 vii. It is a great camera too, so compact with a great range and so many features including some of the a9 features. It always comes down to personal choice and I find the rx 100 series unbeatable for non professionals. I will admit that I think the rx100 v has a sharper lens than the vii and with the 1.8-2.8 has the vii beat in low light and street photography. Sometimes I take the v and the vii with me. I tried some other brands for high end point and shoots but the Sony was the best to my liking.
Instead of 24 to 200 they should have given atleast 16 to whatever it is or best would be 10 to whatever 😅
Agreed completely! I’m waiting for a wide angle version. Would be a game changer!
Any suggestions for an external flash for the zv1?
I thought RX 100 was actually the best overall but this video has changed my mind especially when you say it cannot blur the background properly. My phone shoots better photos than Zv1 I guess And with knows whom I am not buying that toy at all.
the ZV1 definitely takes better photo's than any phone on the market.
rx100 m7 now still 1k 💀
Stapleton!!!!
Love him
You talk too fast...I had to leave
I do talk faster for videos. I’m not trying to make an hour long video though ha
