What a powerful actor Richard Widmark was.
Richard has never been better, a real pro
I really enjoyed this movie. Love Richard Widmark. Great acting from all .Thanks for posting
Great suspense movie from the mid 80's.Richard Widmark is so old school and has such presence here.Havnt seen this movie since the 80's when first released on VHS.So worth a revisit.!.Thanks for posting.
Richard Widmark❤ several good actors in this!
I'm surprised no one mentioned Micheal Beck yet, Swan from The Warriors. It's sad his career didn't take off. He brings great energy to his performances.
I wonder if the inspiration for this plot was the John List case, where List was a New Jersey man who killed his entire family in 1971 and who had told everybody that the family would be leaving town so that he would have time to escape before the murders were discovered. By 1985 List had not yet been found or arrested. That wouldn't happen until 1989.
I remember watching it, on either Unsolved Mysteries or America's Most Wanted, where someone sculpted what they thought he would look like at that point, even his glasses. Based on it he was recognized and was soon in custody. I think it may have been the first time someone was caught in that way.
List was caught and jailed .Exposed by the TV show “Americas Most Wanted “.
Highly possible. There aren’t the creative writers there once were, even back in 1985…they just rip off a true story and use it to make money.
@rashone2879 Lol even those creative writers as you say often used the work of others ..mainly books written decades before as inspiration.
Possible it's the inspiration for the movie Stepfather
Blackout was a very good movie. Thank you for providing me with some decent entertainment.
these older (now old) cop movies where better than most of the new stuff
New cop movies seem to rely too much on car chases, shootouts and sex scenes (there's nothing wrong with these things per se, but they should be in addition to a good plot and actors, rather than in lieu of these things).
100% agree. Well except for the car chases. Like that just now,, movies seem to be what you would find in junior film school@@jackhadroom4540
Surprisingly good film - I wasn't expecting it from the rather bland beginning. I'm glad I stuck it out!
Did you spot the boom in shot?
Widmark a great and fabulous actor!
@42:00 We get just a hint of that trademark, unique Widmark chuckle.
Holy Creepers, when he called her on the phone with that split-personality voice, I had to grab my arms with schivers.
I love seeing these great Hollywood actors. Nothing woke about them.
A real abnormal psychological study here! A Great cast! Oh boy!
I enjoyed this movie; very good performances from the actors involved. Thanks for the upload.
You are a pearl! Gloria was not just a great star but also so cheekyly fresh, beautiful and intelligent too and you made me so happy with your research. Thanks so much!
You can't always count on a movie being " great " because people say so ; what people like is subjective and varies from person to person , but the minute you see that the likes of Richard Witmark and Keith Carradine are in a picture you know that it is good .
At the beginning.. brings me back.. adjust the tracking on the VCR. Good movie, thanks
Anything with Richard Widmark.
Love Richard Widmark!
GEM,
Thanks for this movie based on an unusual and rather frightening premise. Richard Widmark always good in films!
Fantastic movie was a little slow in the beginning but hang in there gets really really good.
it was slow in the middle all the way through to the end also
Good movie, very suspenseful. Thanks for sharing🙂
As if an American hospital would keep a mystery patient under intensive treatment for a full year and undertake cosmetic surgery! Until or unless the patient could demonstrate full insurance and/or extraordinary wealth, he'd be flat out receiving the bare minimum before being discharged, huh...
i have vivid memories of being a kid in a video shop and being creeped out by the VHS cover
I'm watching because Widmark is in it...let's see.......
I am sure I have seen a later version, but this was better than I remember, ....
Saw this movie when it first came out. It’s wonderfully terrifying! 😛
This story reminds me of the Movie the Stepfather I don't know if anyone has seen it and also💕the John List Story as well..
I saw The Stepfather many years ago.
I think this is definitely based on the John List case, so many similarities
Great film Great actors
BIG THANK YOU FOR Uploading this fantastic movie good picture💕and a great story i have seen this movie before but i still absolutely loved it and💞 you don't get pictures like this anymore the old films are the best as they where always great story's you don't💞 get movies like this today and i absolutely Love❣️ David carradine he was always one of my favourite actors so for how ever uploaded this fantastic movie A BIG THANK YOU I Hope to see more movies like this one I'm going to give this movie a❣️....,,,⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Star's..🥤🍿🎥💯💯🕊️🕊️👍🏻👍🏼👏👏
i really liked this movie!!!!
Great movie. Thanks for uploading.
Great movie. So suspenseful.
This is a great picture I hadn't seen it in years. Thanks for the upload.
❤Good movie
This movie is good to view, never get boring ..👍
An ad every 4-5 minutes. RUclips is ridiculous.
Up grade to premium . No ads it’s great !
Thanks. That means I have to pay RUclips and I can't do that out of principle. RUclips censures information and I can't support their cause. I used to have AdBlocker and RUclips threatened to turn off video-play unless I got disabled it. I loved not having ads; I could relax without getting up every 4 minutes to watch a 1:30 hour movie! LOL@@deborahcraven6435
I watched it in Ireland. There was only about four 15 second ad breaks in total. I suppose it’s different in America because you expect this. We wouldn’t tolerate it in Ireland. If there were ads every few minutes we’d just turn off, which would make advertising pointless.
Thanks for telling me. At least 28 ads during this movie and I think I have caught on to the reason. They make watching videos on youtube so annoying that people will purchase their 'RUclips Premium" to avoid ads. They advertise for that too. I'm not buying it and I'll do less youtube. I generally watch documentaries that I'll find elsewhere hopefully. I salute Ireland.@@BridMhor
@BrídMhór
Also in Ireland, I watch YT in my Firefox browser; no ads.
(At worst, just one before the film begins.)
Great movie 🙂
Great film. I don’t remember seeing it before. It kept me guessing until almost the end.
Omg look at the Boom in shot at 37:53 😂😂
😂😂😂
Greetings from Florida 🐬 Thank You ✨ for Sharing this Gem 💎
Why make husband and police chief look-alikes?
To make you wonder who the murderer is.
This was referenced in Forensic Files. Cranked the Ac to change the time of death
Fantastic film luved everything bout everything 👍, thats my thoughts 🤔
Gorgeous Keith Carradine
Question. He had a lot of surgeries who paid for it? They didn't even know who he was to bill a insurance
Hollywood.....😆😆😆
@@frankarce-gw2hr 🤣😛😂
She doesn't even know if her kis is in the house
Intriguing!😮
Good actors here!
The opening scene is greay. The actress did a great job!
@cindirose3390 "The opening scene is greay."
greasy?
Keith is a wonderful actor. He has played so many roles from comdey sitcoms to westerns. I really liked this movie even though t was so heartbreaking because this horrible crimes happen.
This had a Hitchcock feel to it in some scenes.
This film was certainly based on some really happening criminal cases, or parts of some cases put together to this detective story. Such things also happen in Europe, perhaps with some delay to the U.S. In Germany a serial killer with a black mask much like this in the film used to stalk camps. That was years ago until he finally got caught.
everyone in Germany has a mask like that...if they want to have sex that is
RUclips ads are out of control on this one. They seem to be either pornographic con jobs or just con jobs. I´m out of here.
you tube is using adverts as means to censor a lot of content, placing ads right when some statement or non woke fact is about to be made. Not surprising as you tube is turning to a type of TV. Because the people who now run it came from TV.
@@Mercmad hehe Yeah, right when this movie was about to disclose evidence linking President Biden to bribery and foreign favoritism, BAM!, here comes an ad for treatment of your erectile dysfunction.
Did he kill the cop? It's too dark and I can't see his face well enough
Yes. The internally lurking “Ed Vincent” killed Michael because he was convinced that his wife was cheating with him.
@@lissalives1 thank you. I thought it was him, but this movie is too dark to see the faces.
Why did women always scream
in films back then ?
I almost spilt my tea
Lol
John List also had the AC cranked way down.😮
Also in an episode of Forensic Files a guy who killed his wife turned up the air conditioner. That one was the show where this movie was actually mentioned.
Had me guessing til the end!
At 39:13, you can see the boom mic. 😛
people aren't as smart as animals not even ants, except some few, they do sick unthinkable unspeakable acts, they don't know their limits, that's why probably, its a sick world and I doubt it can recover.
i'm sorry, i wasn't listening. what did you say?

Knew this was not an "English" film from the first few seconds.... that house is a typical AMERICAN house, never seen in England....the film is in the English (American English) langauge
noooo...😅..it means English language
English on these descriptions only means the language, not the country.
For clarity: *say English **_and_** US.* It matters. I like English films. I like American films. Not the same thing!
@@sohara....
American is not a language.
and just so you know...this is filmed in Canada. I renovate houses for a living and recognized the design of the nurses house as i've worked on several with the same layout. Plus our English is sometimes considered a little more pure up here. Love the US as well tho. Didn't love this movie other than the acting.
Good movie .. I would forever be traumatized if that were me ..phew .. but why did she quit her nursing job :)
Hypergamy.
Ooops. Big blooper at the 39 minute mark. The hovering microphone for some 5 seconds.
This is essentially a TV movie. A good cast is trapped in a routine and unremarkable picture, Richard Widmark is good as usual, but he has Little to do and his talent is wasted. HIs terrific 1950 film noir performances apparently are unknown to the writers of this movie. Keith Carradine is also wasted in an under developed part. The only suspense is waiting to see who the culprit is and that is really no surprise. Turner Classic Movies screen far better B crime pictures all the time. The GEM Film Library should take a look.
From which year is this film...?
Looks like the 1950s19
I don't understand why there are women who still think that their husbands are saints in spite of seeing the crimes that they did.
Because psychopaths are very, very charming & have no problem mimicking emotions & paying lip service to social norms, to fit in. BTK was a pillar of his community & took 15 years off killing to raise his kids. John Wayne Gacey was admired for his extensive local charity work. Ted Bundy worked for a domestic violence helpline.
she didn't know that he committed the crimes.
Thank you for upload. I enjoyed the movie.
This movie was made in 1985.
This was inspired by the List family murders of the early 1970s.
Is that David Carradine there in the hospital?
keith.
Mu yellow car was in this movie.
I saw this and know how it ends. i love both Widmark and Keith Carradine. Loved the latter In The Will Rogers Follies. I think this was a tv movie;
Gruesome

Why do americans leave keys everywhere😅

@@frankarce-gw2hr He wrote Americans. Why be the racist and immediatly jump to your racist allogations?
@@MikeGreenwood51oh rascist one of the favorite words now . Other favorites are diversity, bigot , nazi , fascists, Islamophobia .
Where can I find statistics that "Americans" mislay keys at a higher rate than any other demographic? Are we extrapolating truths from depictions in movies as scripted by screenwriters now? Really?
And how many commercials are we going to have to live through this time for a 1 and a half hour show..What kind of deal was made after the turn of the new year?..Commercials tripled..There's no longer the chance to settle in and watch anything..not docs..not news and not films..sucks...
I'm fortunate in living in Ireland and having access to two free channels, RTE (RTE 1 & 2) and Channel 4. So when I get tired of the ads on RUclips, can go there.
Do you have any free TV where you are?
*
Other option: going into RUclips through internet browser Samsung Explorer ... and having the adblockers for Samsung.
*
My Google phone deleted the Samsung browser and it wouldn't upload again ... from Google Play store.
There's a theme there!
Then with Samsung browser, I *only* had ads at beginning ... much more manageable 😉
The outfits of the pretty actress match the horror of this story😅
What a horrible shot of Richard Widmark when he sees the murdered mother and children. 😳😳😳
What year movie? Plz put year .. many same tittle movie

Is this guy Kieth Carradine? AKA Freddy Funderburg
She kept his Jag.....
A very bad print😮
It’s old what do you expect……why do people complain so much ???
I'm a 1/2 hour in and I like the movie, but it's not worth my time. Way to many advertisments. Adios, and Aloha, kiss my A** goodbye...😊
Confusing and scenes were illogical. Movie was poorly put together or badly edited.
TOO MANY ADS
Odd. I watched it via RUclips just now (12/26/2023) and had no ads at all. Maybe it was posted by a different person?
May depend on the browser and whether you have adblockers.

Not sure... Charlie Chaplin"s movies had better quality
these types of murders happen almost daily now 1n 2024
Hollywood has been showing women as masochistic dupes since the 1950s.
like in real life.
I'm never nostalgic about VHS. Horrible quality. I'm glad the analogue days are over.
Amen!
this is definitely not representative of all VHS quality, but it should have had a digital transfer by now.
No credits, no movie
this move stinks
