Fantastic film! Great writing, directing, casting and performances. Thank you to all who made this film possible. Without this film, the film industry would not have progressed in the way it did regarding representation. We still have a long way to go, but we are much better along than before.

Richard Widmark what more can you say. No one plays evil better then him. Linda Darnell fantastic performance. Great to see Ossie Davis. The whole cast was excellent. The cherry on top the great Sidney Poitier. Great unforgettable movie 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

I watched this movie a few years ago. It's worth a re-watch. I head that Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier became pretty good friends with mutual admiration. They must be great actors because they sure didn't seem like friends in this movie.

The actors are a bonus, a cherry over J. Mankiewicz script, direction AND casting. He btw selected beginner Sidney Poitier. Thanks for showing !

Indeed. I’ve seen most of his films but not this one. He was just 13 years old! Excellent film. Richard Widmark was very good, but a lot of credit goes to Linda Darnell - she was such a beautiful, talented actor … with the largest, most expressive eyes I’ve ever seen. She deserved to among the A-listers of the time.

Awesome film. Mankiewicz was one of the greatest directors. This film must have been seriously controversial when it came out as I can't imagine that it wasn't. Thought after the autopsy the film was just gonna end but had no idea the last act of this film was going to go that way. Incredible stuff. One of the best Drama films I've ever seen. Poitier and Widmark are amazing together. Can't imagine Widmark being too comfortable with his dialogue in this, must have been rough.

Richard Widmark was a fine actor. He could play the psychopath as equally as he could play a heroic character. If one has never seen "The Long Ships", in which Widmark plays a captain of a Viking ship and crew. Give it a watch. You will see an entirely different side of Widmark's acting skills. Incidentally, Sidney Poitier was in the "Long Ships" as well.

We all liked Richard Widmark out in Thousand Oaks CA, when he had his ranch on Potrero Road. He was a nice guy to all who spoke to him, rather quiet by nature, but never acted the movie star. After all his racist dialogue in this film, he apologized to Sidney Poitier for delivering those lines.
