    Doc : In vino veritas.
    Ringo : Age quod agis.
Doc : Credat Judaeus Apella, non ego.
    Ringo : Eventus stultorum magister.
    Doc : In pace requiescat!
Doc: In wine there is truth. [Being drunk makes me tell the truth]
Ringo: Do what you do. [Being drunk makes you a drunkard / it’s good to stick to what you know best.]
Doc: [This is a quote from the ancient poet Horace] Let the Jew Apella believe it, not me. [Go and tell someone who cares/someone who will believe you.]
Ringo: Youth is the teacher of fools. [Fools need to learn by experience / Perhaps a fool like you needs someone experienced to teach him a lesson.]
Doc: Rest in peace. [Do what you like, it’s your funeral.]
Edit: Hey guys thank you from the bottom of my heart! Glad I could help out ☺️

Once Ringo cocked it & then lowered that hammer, if he'd have slipped while spinning it, somebody would have been lucky to just lose a foot LOL.

When Doc is spinning the mug around, the other people in the bar think he's just acting like a drunken fool. Ringo saw that Doc had actually memorized all of the fancy spinning gun tricks he just did, and repeated them all flawlessly while piss drunk. It was this moment that made Ringo realize Doc was a better gunslinger, which is why he really wasn't eager to fight Doc at the end of the movie.

Burro B It's really a testament to both actors skill and talent that such a subtlety could be observed in the first place. The way Michael Biehn's face falls towards the end of Docs mimicry perfectly captures that moment of dawning realization when the proud Johnny Ringo knew he just met his match.

Even when drunk, Doc handled his twirling just as good as anyone else. Imagine how incredible he’d be without the booze. While everyone was cheering, Doc was studying his speed and draw. Ringo didn’t think that one through, he gave away his surprise to the last guy he’d want to do that with. On the other side of it, while people were laughing at Doc doing the cup twirling, Ringo watched in awe and shock as Doc did his exact every single move and twirl while completely plastered. He realized he was no match for Doc and in way over his head. His face completely dropped at 3:17

    • @wolfofwallstreet1907
      @wolfofwallstreet1907 10 месяцев назад +4

That's not necessarily true. Him being drunk all the time is probably what made him better. If he sobered up and stayed clean he would've lost most of his talent because he wouldn't be used to that kind of balance. When I did construction in my younger days I was also a heavy drinker and smoker and I executed my job everyday with extreme prejudice. When my doctor told me I had to quit drinking because of my liver I wasn't the same anymore. As the days went by and I got more sober I couldn't function correctly or get numbers right as they used to come so naturally to me. My co workers would ask me what the heck happened to me n like I said I function better when my body is marinated in alcohol

Seriously one of the greatest films ever made. Didn't get the recognition it deserved because it was a western. The acting is on a whole different level. Each actor played their characters to near perfection. Val Kilmer should have won supporting actor at every single awards show, his portrayal of Doc Holiday was one of the best performances in modern film...

At 3:40 I always wondered if the juxtaposition of the cowboy and the lady was intentional. On one side we see a lady amused by the little back and forth tricks done between Doc and Ringo and on the other we see a cowboy with a cold stare after Doc Holliday repeats Johnny Ringo's gun trick with one viewing while he's absolutely blasted. It's almost like every cowboy knows what just happened but for the people who are there for "excitement" it was just a cute little gun/cup trick.

"We don't need no stinking translator".
From their tone of voice and body language it was obvious they were throwing insults and challenges. Ringos hand on gun was an obvious death threat.
Now consider this, most of the people in that room would have backed the cowboys. Ringo could have shot Doc and got away with it at trial. And Doc knew that too, yet he was not taking any sass from Ringo. I'm sure
Doc heard Wyatt cock the shotgun, so he knew even if Ringo shot him, Wyatt would take out Ringo and Curly. Doc saw his mother die a slow, painful death from TB and perhaps he was willing to die a sudden death from gunshot. He knew Ringo was a cold blooded hotshot and probably would be happy to die knowing Wyatt was going to take out Ringo.
Ringo wanted to see Doc flinch but it ain't happening so he cleverly pretends to put on a show and settles for that thinking Doc can't match it. Then Doc makes a total mockery of it by perfectly replicating every move Ringo made. That told Ringo that Doc is a lot shrewder than he counted on and might explain why Ringo was reluctant to gunfight with Doc.

Not just that, but every time Johnny came out looking for a fight, Doc stepped up cool as ice. By their final encounter, Johnny knew that Doc Holiday was at least as stone cold a killer as himself, and given his reputation, certainly his match at gunplay. The difference between them is that Ringo knew they were both quickdraws and didn’t want to risk it, while Doc was itching to play that game.
