Thanks for the help setting up my thermostat. The blue wire!!!
You are welcome! Thank you for watching!
A very nice and complete video for this thermostat. Thanks for sharing
I appericiate the kind words. I'm still using this smart thermostat today and have found it to be easy to use, reliable, and a great value. Thank you for watching!
Great video on installation and setting up.
I will share you our team experience here in Dubai, UAE. We are Installer for smart thermostat and only in this month we got 3rd order for Amazon unit. Everything is smooth as our team know all the challenges and other requirements here for UAE system to work with but we end up with no luck to setup app. Seems server response issue and we keep facing this issue almost 3rd time here. Hope some server end issue and they will resolve.
I hope the server issues can be resolved by Amazon for customers. I really enjoy this smart thermostat and have not found a better option in this price range. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews thanks i agree IOT is playing big roles in home thing now. But after chatting with amazon support team for few hour our client hands up and she ask for alternative options and she like to go with Nest 4th gen. And defiantly we order amazon for our lab testing and we will continue testing so our team ready for next client project with Amazon model. Cheers
Nice Video! Installing my unit after this video!
Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy your new thermostat, it's one of my favorite products I've ever installed.
Thanks. I've had a nest learning thermostat which malfunctioned after 5 months, Google sent another which wouldn't even turn on and they said must also have a defect after the trouble shoot. Hvac pro said everything on the wiring and system end was fine. So thinking about just picking one of these up and being done with it
That's terrible that you have had issues with the Nest. I was considering Nest at the time I bought the Amazon. The big factors for me was the price $60 vs $180. I couldn't justify the extra money for the more feature laden Nest. It also helps my wi-fi is currently 2.4 ghz and i have several other Amazon smart devices so I had no real reason to buy the Nest. I have been happy so far as it is effective and the app is also easy to use. Thank you for watching!
I have the orange one and i connect the white in the W2 and orange in the W like the old one. And the old one have a jump between the R and RC with the red.
Firstly, great install video. I know you glossed over your common wire being cut. How did you figure that out, how did you ever find that cut to splice it?
The common wire issue took me a good 20 mins to resolve. As I had the wire at my panel in the furnace and also in my wall at the old thermostat (it was simply just pushed back from the other wires). I traced the common wire from my box up to the top of my furnace and up the wall to the thermostat. I found two places where the common wire was cut. I reattached the first cut with a wire nut wrapped in electrical tape and the same for the second cut. I could have also tested for power at the lowest cut to see if the wire was live but did not feel like breaking out the multimeter.
I'm really not sure why this was done but I've heard that this is common when a company wants to avoid wi-fi setup on a basic thermostat. I suppose it is also possible since my old unit had batteries that they believed the common wire was not needed.
Thank you for watching!
i have the amazon thermostat I am either going to swap or return. My fan just keeps running when it should shut off at temp. I can turn off the thermostat and it goes off and I can turn it back on and the fan stays off till it comes back on from temp again but then the fan stays running again. That is why I am here along with several other videos just checking and making sure I have things wired correctly. The only wire I am unsure about is the white wire where it says don't connect if you have a heat pump. I see all of these connected there and not the other spot. I guess I should say the W and W2 spots.
I would check your Amazon app and make sure you are set to Auto and not circulate. Also W2 should not be connected as that is for heat pumps. I'm not an expert on heat pumps but the W2 is a priming phase for heat pumps and helps them heat faster. I'm imaging this may be why the fan is continuing to run. Thank you for watching!
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews I figured it out. The answer was crazy but it worked and I have only seen it in the one place but have seen many asking. I found it on reddit. The O/B wire which is orange for me I needed to move to W and the W wire which was white had to be in W2 for the heat pump. It has worked since I did it. I do have a heat pump but Amazon said to hook it up like my old thermostat so I did. I had W jumped to W2 orange in the O/B where you would think it should be.
@@littleman350 glad to hear it worked out, enjoy the thermostat!
this is great and probably works in 90% of applications, but here in the northeast, we have gas boilers and baseboard heat which means no control board at the boiler(instead we have an Aquastat). In my application, the smart thermostat will be controlling both the heat and the AC (R1&C used). I have extra wires (3) coming to the thermostat and a 24v transformer near by boiler, the question is where to connect the 24v to the device?
From what I understand gas boilers can be run off a smart thermostat but electric cannot. This is one of the best videos on wiring a smart thermostat for a gas boiler. ruclips.net/video/zi1Mkt1Nc8s/видео.html I am not familiar with the process and this video is covering the Nest but is very detailed. Thank you for watching!
We had no luck. Same situation too; Blue (common) wasn’t hooked up. Finally gave up and now it won’t go on with our old thermostat back on. 😳
Update: After putting the old thermostat back on with no air, we realized that the door covering the main board was not closed correctly to activate a button which in turn, activated the system (who knew). We were able to re-install the “new” Amazon thermostat and works like a charm. Thanks for this video, it helped with the install!
Yep it's called a kill switch so you don't electrocute yourself messing with your stuff down there
Man I couldn’t figure out why my mines wasn’t working and boom I checked the furnace and my common wire wasn’t connected and u gave me the confidence to do it. Thank you so much
I'm glad yours was an easy fix. I had the same reaction and was like why would they go to the trouble of running this wiring to not connect it? HVAC folks seem to want to plan to sell you on future purchases like inspections, maintenance (changing filters/batteries), upgrading your thermostat. Perhaps they include the common wire to make a quick buck off folks in the future.
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews and would have if I didn’t come across your video
So how did you get the face off to install the faceplate? I wanted to put mine together to test befor mounting and now can't get the front off. No gaps. I've tried putty knives etc but the plastic is pretty soft and gouging up.
After removing the screws and wires, the unit pops off just like it installs. Thereafter the base plate gets mounted to the wall and the unit on top. I'm not sure what you would need a putty knife unless something is retaining the unit beyond the normal hardware? Just a firm but straight pull away from the wall is all that is required to disengage.
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews Thanks. I was doing it wrong
What type of system do you have? I watched a video where they freaked me out by saying it is a way different installing for a heat pump system, and now I’m afraid to install it.
I have a Carrier forced air system for both Heat and AC. I'm not sure how a heat pump system would differ from using the thermostat as it does not change how your heating/cooling system work. From what I understand the Amazon Smart Thermostat will work with the majority of heating and coding systems.
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews thank you so much for the prompt response, your video is so helpful. I’m doing it first thing tomorrow💪🏼
It wasn’t level.
What if I don't have a c wire. How can I install a c hookup
If you don't have a c-wire you will need one of two things:
1) A c-wire adapter that converts your existing setup to work with old harnesses. You can buy the Smart Thermostat I used with the adapter which plugs into the board directly from Amazon or separately if needed. Install is easy with just a few connections being replaced to make everything work.
Or
2) Run a c-wire from your furnace to the location of your current Thermostat. This is not impossible but is substantially more difficult. It will require you to correctly install the wire on you furnace control board and safely run. As this is a hot wire it will need to be properly secured with the rest of your furnace and ac wiring. This wire should also be blue in color and labeled as common for quick reference.
Thank you for watching!
How are the cycle times? I've heard they're really short.
Very short compared to my old thermostat. My old thermostat took 20-25 seconds to initiate the HVAC for heating or cooling and ran for an annoying long time. The Amazon begins heating or cooling within 8-10 seconds and runs for a noticeably shorter time to make the same change. Probably 60% of what it formally took. I'm highly impressed and really enjoy the ascetic and app control features.
@@Matty_Ice_Reviews thanks I may be going to but one tomorrow.
