    In this video we show you how to install the Amazon smart thermostat and how to set it up. The Amazon Smart Thermostat is a wifi smart thermostat that allows you to remotely control the thermostat from your phone to control the temperature or set schedules.
    In the video we teach you how to install the Amazon Smart Thermostat with a traditional HVAC system with an air conditioner and gas fire furnace.
    It's important to note that the Amazon Smart Thermostat requires a common wire or a common wire adapter in order to work. In our case the existing thermostat already had a common wire so we were able to install the Amazon Smart Thermostat.
    If you need to add a common wire we have several videos that explain what a common wire is and how to add one or repurpose the G wire to be used as a common wire. The videos are for the Nest Thermostat but the common wire installation is the same for the Amazon Smart Thermostat as the Nest Thermostat.

    this is great and probably works in 90% of applications, but here in the northeast, we have gas boilers and baseboard heat which means no control board at the boiler(instead we have an Aquastat). In my application, the smart thermostat will be controlling both the heat and the AC (R1&C used). I have extra wires (3) coming to the thermostat and a 24v transformer near by boiler, the question is where to connect the 24v to the device?

    I read an article that says having smart thermostats that turn heat up and down, same with ac, actually uses more energy. Article said to set a temp that you can be comfortable with all day and night. Furnace and ac work harder to bring temps up and down constantly.

    • @njboesman
      @njboesman Год назад

      Don't believe everything you read, what credible source said this ? Imagine you are traveling during the summer and you set your thermostat to 85 as not to waste energy. Now you can turn it down to 72 12 hours before you're coming home. Same in winter, keep house @ 55 while away, turn to 72 before coming home. At work and no one home, same thing....I must disagree with what you read

      @@njboesman The units use more energy to bring temps up or down depending on the season. They work harder and longer to get where you set them. I did an experiment and noticed it took more therms to get my heat set from a 62-degree setting compared to leaving it at 74 all the time.

    I want to hook up just a Central A/C unit to my thermostat. I only have 2 wires coming to my existing thermostat, a red and a white wire. I am using a transformer to replace the c-wire. So I believe I would hook up the transformer to the RC & C plugs, and as for the existing 2 wires that I currently use, I would connect the Red wire to the R plug, and the White wire to the Y plug. Is that correct?

    I had the smart thermostat installed and it worked fine - until my modem went out. I tried to get it set up with the new modem with NO luck. I even bought a replacement thermostat, and it won't connect either. I am now at the point where neither of the faceplates wiil light up, so I am now without heat. I've double checked the wiring, and it is correct (it worked fine before the modem problem) Amazon tech support was absolutely NO help at all, and simply said they would send me a new thermostat (supposed to arrive this morning,, but did not come, but it still has not arrived).

      You need the blue or C-wire to power the thermostat with. Most modern furnaces have a "C" terminal on the board in the unit, so you just need 5-conductor thermostat wire. Or you can purchase a C-wire adapter from Honeywell. The C wire provides the 24VAC current to the device.

      This is my exact problem. RC to RH jump on the old thermostat. On the old thermostat there was no yellow, but the C wire was wired to the yellow terminal. Installed the Amazon thermostat without the jump and it only recognized heat on the app. Took the plate off and put a jump from R to RC, but it was damned tight. I can't tell if my jump was bad due to the crowding, or if it is absolutely necessary to have a yellow for it to work (which didn't seem necessary on the old Honeywell. Still don't know the purpose of wiring the C to the otherwise unused yellow terminal on the old unit). At any rate, the house was sweltering and so I reconnected the old unit and everything works again. If anyone has found a workaround I'd be interested.

We've tried reconnecting many times. Today I did the hard reset, but I'm still getting this provisioning error (now I can't even use the thermostat :-( !). It won't let me type the wifi password, it is only giving me option to click the one already associated with my alexa account. The only thing that I am doing differently is I no longer I have the QR code (I can't find an image of it anywhere) so I am trying to connect with bluetooth.
