Rafael is a badass admittedly,he kind of reminds me of an angel fallen into darkness hence his signature and trademark card Guardian Eatos,plus despite being on Dartz's team he's the only duelist I've seen in the series who has a tremendous respect for his cards,to use them dispite their condition and to protect his monsters from being sent to the graveyard,he's just awesome like that.
well Jaden and Yusei also had tremendous respect for theirs - specially Yusei - but i guess not in Rafael's degree XD... funny enough he inspired me to imagine a new YGO protagonist for a new series, but he would be using Beasts instead though
That's how I feel about my Ultimate Conductor Tyranno card. But to me that card is more than just a card it's like a dear friend or loved one. In fact, I would consider it a member of my family. Despite it's power and ability to go to toe to toe with ultra powerful cards like the three Egyptian God cards, the Sacred Beasts and Supreme King Z-ARC, I never manged to win too many duels due to me not having enough spell or trap cards used to protect it from effects. Yet, I never stop believing in my monster and in return he never stooped believing in me, no matter how many time we got hammered, we never gave up on each other.
Rafael was easily the most tragic, and arguably most complicated of all of Dartz's minion, making him, arguably the best of Dartz's servants. Well, that and he's one of the few people who's able to defeat the Pharaoh.
Yes and in-spite all his fame he couldn't stop by Grandpa's game shop for a few card sleeves. That's actually really cool though I genuinely didn't know that.

Although the Doma Arc is filler, Rafael was a pretty cool character and he actually had a backstory...remember guys, the best villains are those that think that they're doing the right. thing. The best think was is dynamic with Atem lol he drove him to madness...i love when he says "Why must you live again while my family's dead?"
I like Raphael's character because despite his hardships and being separated from his family he still made a way for himself being stranded at sea and being on deserted island for all those years made him the man he is today it was a very difficult for him to open up and trust people again but those hardships made him the man he is today pay attention notice that he is the only one not to loose his soul like the others why because his heart ❤ was pure😎✌

What's pretty interesting about Rafael is that for an antagonist character, his deck, stragety, and strengths are just about as identical to a main Yugioh Protagonist before that trait was defined by season 2 of Yugioh GX. He respects and loves his cards as if they're family to him, does what he thinks is right despite being extremely misguided, his signature monster has 2500 attack points which every Yugioh protagonist has. But most importantly? The Heart of the Cards asspull because watch both of his duels against Yugi where his deck is heavily loaded with magic cards and draws the monster card and the equip spellcard needed to summon them out in each two-card draw! Rex in the abridged and dub pointed out to Joey and Weevil respectively how people like him don't have that kind of power yet the main protagonists do. I kinda thought that was a nice touch by giving an antagonist, even if filler, Protagonist powers.
Seriously, the first time I watched the end of that Duel in the Japanese version, I sobbed like a baby!! Easily one of the most emotional scenes ever in YuGiOh.
I always loved Raphiel and Vslon when I was younger, and I wanted to make their types of decks. However when I learned more about the game and about the anime only decks like Valon's, and how Guardians were basically unplayable, it got me sad

I bet Jaden and Rafael would get along, considering they both see duel spirits and have strong bonds their monsters. In fact, they would enjoy dueling each other with RAF calling a Jaden a good kid with a great life ahead of him as well as great duelist. Jaden would also greatly compliment Raf’s monsters, considering he tends to do that with a lot of opponents. The two would greatly see much of themselves in each other.

1 of the best characters in the filler arc that destroyed the pharaoh and became king of games in 24 hours until the rematch. that's impressive! also Raphael vs the pharaoh in round 1 is 1 of my favorite duels dispute the shock value that happen and the moment it made me cry like crazy it still 1 of the best in waking the dragons arc filler that is surpprisely good.

I find it dumb that 4Kids changed the storyline that has family survived the cruise ship disaster, but totally forgot about him. It was quite obvious they died in it and how can people as rich as them completely forget about someone? Death was a major part in many Disney animated films like Lion King and Mulan, so unsure why it had to be changed here.

Guardian Eatos is my favorite card hands down, and Rafael has my favorite deck in the series.
Rafael pasted new backs onto his older cards so as not to be able to differentiate between them during duels.
