    The duel did happen in the manga, but there are few things to consider:
    1)Bakura could have played the DB, but in the manga, it required Dark Necrofear to be on the grave, which would be a pain to do.
    2)Bakura planned to send Ra to the grave, instead of summoning it himself, not knowing it's other abilities. With this, he used Dark Designator to send Ra to Marik's hand and then Multiple Destruction to send Ra to the grave. Then he summoned Puppet Master to special summon the 3 monsters to attack Marik in the next turn and go for game, however Marik draws his own Monster Reborn, summons Ra and uses it's ability to give 3999 attack points to (he didn't lose a single lp in the manga) it and finishes off Bakura. We don't know what cards were on Marik's hand, but let's just assume his hand was all bricks and he had to summon Ra to win

      Honestly having finally read the manga within the last couple months it's wild how differently some of these duels go. The differences in card mechanics and rulings really plays into how weird some plays seem to be in the anime.
      Also relevant to this duel; anime Bakura and manga Bakura are kinda wildly different characters for no real reason. In the manga he's incredibly conniving and utilitarian, which helps him with being more threatening, while the anime just makes him into kind of a goober until the final season where they finally realized he needs to be competent in order to be an effective threat.

      @NeptunII 3 месяца назад +8

      @@Lucario1121it's pretty amazing how smoothly the anime managed to adapt the bakura-yugi-duel considering how much his card-effects were changed in the ocg, I'm still really impressed. in the manga Destiny Board is a single card that requires Dark Necrofear in the graveyard, and originally Dark Necrofear itself released the haunting spirit to the field. So when the anime adapted it they not only created Dark Sanctuary to replicate Necrofear's original effect, they also gave it the ability to extend spell and trap zones so that when yugi revives necrofear he still locks down bakura's destiny board combo, just in a different way.

      Boost this comment up to roast on the anime for adding filler content to duels to make them last longer.
      One of the few duels I can remember being improved from the manga is the final one, Atem vs Yugi. The anime gets Yugi beating the Egyptian God cards through his own strength, while the manga has Atem leave out Ra and seemingly only using Obolisk. When Atem discards Swift Gaia in the anime, he discarded Slifer in the manga for the jumpscare with Monster Reborn. But by Yugi killing it in the anime, it better shows the theme of how the dead should move on from the world rather than linger in it.

      Half the time they could just be like "okay beat him before he gets it on the table", or like in Mai's case, steal it from him *and not use it at all*. Just brick it away. Beat him with your normal strategy after removing his one mega-ultra-chicken card from play. Or like in this video we just saw, Bakura could've easily beaten YaMarik by just doing his own thing, using exchange to just steal Ra and stop it from ever entering the field.

    18:00- “One Turn Kill” is the true name of the Instant Attack or point to point transfer in the Japanese version. It’s suppose to symbolized that with this effect, the Wing Dragon Of Ra has the power to basically wipe you out in one turn.
    The name instant Attack in the English dub was probably just 4kids trying to avoid saying the word Kill, so the name was changed. This is also why the name of the episode is called “One Turn Kill.” It’s about explaining this secret ability of Ra I guess. Hope this helps.

    Fun fact: In the manga, Destiny Board requires Dark Necrofear to be in the Graveyard to work. While we're on the subject, Dark Necrofear's summon in the manga requires three fiend monsters to be destroyed in attack mode within (I think) 5 turns, which explains Bakura's duel with Yugi a little better.

      I recently watched Sam's video on the Bakura vs Yugi Duel, and IF I remember correctly, the reason why Bakura didn't activate it back then, until a bit later on, is similar to why he didn't activate it now, he needed Dark Sanctuary on the field, which can be only activated once Dark Necrofear leaves the field, and since, Bakura struggled to even get 3 fiends in the graveyard, it'd make sense, also, except for Ra, Marik didn't have a monster to beat over Necrofear, which would've been too late in the Duel to use the field spell then Destiny board, so technically, the move he made in the Anime Duel (Manga Duel slightly different but would've worked also) was the better of the 2

    • @snowboundwhale6860
      @snowboundwhale6860 3 месяца назад +4

      @@varisrevolver4061 Manga Necrofear in addition to having the summoning requirement OP mentioned has a continuous effect in the GY which is the possession ghost that becomes the "spirit of the sanctuary" from Dark Sanctuary's effect, and Manga Destiny Board requires Dark Necrofear in GY to apply it's effects because she's the one using the ouiji board. Notably there are no "Spirit Message" cards either in this version, they're more akin to a gamestate or counters applied to Destiny Board similar to the manga/anime Great Moth line, so Bakura wouldn't need to consider bricking on them.
      The anime versions DB requires Sanctuary, and Sanctuary requires Necrofear in grave to apply; They basically offloaded part of Dark Necrofear's effects into Dark Sanctuary as a new middleman and rejigged it all a bit to work out roughly the same.
      Then irl Destiny Board comes along with no activation/ effect requirements but everything pops if any of it pops which creates yet another disconnect between the cards in game vs in the story.

He could have played Destiny Board the whole time, and Sam himself called it a misplay not playing the Destiny Board earlier. Board could be played without Dark Sanctuary, but it would occupy Bakuras spell/trap zones. Dark Sanctuary not only alleviate that problem, but also keeps Yami Yugi from attacking him along with Dark Door
      Long story short, Dark Necrofear in the GY wasn't needed for the Board but for the Sanctuary. And Sanctuary wasn't needed for the Board, but it just facilitated its win con very much

      Bakura being the greater-scope villain meant that he was doomed to only ever win against unimportant characters like Bonz. He was already plotting for the final series as early as Duelist Kingdom, but Kazuki Takahashi must of realised that if he suddenly allowed Bakura to duel and beat main characters like Joey, Marik or Kaiba, there'd be no justifiable reason for Yugi and Atem to continue overlooking his schemes.
      All Yu-Gi-Oh! villains lose in the end. The problem is that Bakura being introduced so early on in the story meant that he wasn't allowed to come across as much of a threat until it was much too late.

    This duel did happen in the manga, it’s the same as the anime right up to Multiple Destruction. Instead, Bakura used Dark Designator first then Multiple Destruction to send Ra to the graveyard, before summoning Puppet Master reviving Dark Necrofear and Headless Knight (discarded by Multiple Destruction) and Gelnia and preparing to just attack next turn and roll over Marik with battle damage…right up until Marik Monster Reborn’s Ra and uses Point-To-Point transfer to increase its attack to 3999 (Marik had his 4000 LP left while Bakura had 1900 LP, close enough to the anime), and then attacks Bakura and his 3 monsters. So it starts and ends the same way, but it’s a whole lot shorter due to no Bog Spirit and also due to Bakura actually not knowing Ra’s effects and thus not attempting to use it.

    • @thattruegamernerd
      @thattruegamernerd 3 месяца назад +4

      I guess it would have to be, also it could have been to more evenly distribute the duel between the 2 episodes, because the first episode ends the turn when Bakura summons Puppet Master, so in the manga next turn Bakura gets defeated, so maybe they wanted to put more content in or something, instead of just starting the episode with Bakura getting cooked and dying, or to explain more of what Ra can do. Most likely it’s just for filling time, putting in more ‘content’ instead of getting to the filler arc.

      True the anime does allow them to show off more cards and strategies than is possible in the manga, due to the longer length and the difference in medium, it does make for a more interesting experience. It is also interesting to note differences in these duels between the original version and the adaptation, to see difference in scripting and characterisation even in a short duel like this.

    The main issue is that players in the anime often over-think their strategies when they're faced with someone who is apparently prepared for their strategies.
    A better example of what to actually do in this situation (for both sides) is Jaden vs. Bastion, when Bastion just turns off Polymerization with Cursed Seal. We know that between Wroughtweiler and Fusion Recovery, Jaden's deck is super reliant on Polymerization, and that the likelihood of playing more than one Fusion Gate is low since he doesn't often side deck and he has little reason to with all the ways to recycle Polymerization he has. Plus, Miracle Fusion hadn't been released yet, so another thing to justify why he couldn't play around it.

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 3 месяца назад +8

      It's really hard to write a convincing duel in fairness because the writers know exactly what cards everyone will draw and how the battle will go, so they have to fake a lot of things like surprise (they don't know what the cards do and aren't allowed to read the card effects or see them). It's also why they have a ton of very niche counter cards, apparently can only play with one particular archetype, only ever draw about half their deck over the series (there's no way they're playing with 60 cards consistenly) and the fact that the duels often last 2 episodes despite most IRL duels lasting like 3-5 minutes. Granted they do spend a LOT of time taunting each other but these are still like 20 minute duels.
      That said.... I DO love when you have what I dub an "anime duel" irl. Something really thrilling about both players stopping thier win condition and lots of back and forth with good trap timing and summon prediction to lead to a gripping "it's only over when the last life point is lost" duels. Those ones that make me really sweat and go "Okay....do I use the effect now? No...lemme wait... Okay NOW! ... YES! HAHA YES! I stopped opp's combo! Whew wow if I didn't time that PERFECTLY I would've lost." You'd be surprised at how many times "Heart of the cards" literally won me a tight duel.

It's what I consider the best anime duel for a good reason, despite how Jaden's friends were like "Why is he playing so cautiously and not like himself for fun? Bakura would totally had complete control of the duel as had he would have used destiny board (yami marik only had 1 trap removal wasted), Yami Marik is totally in defense throughout the duel. Also Despite Ra had no Atk, it still had a beefy 3450 defense, Yami Marik had no way in getting over that, yet he tributes it and it bit him in the butt. He should have kept RA and instead summon dark necrofear and used premature burial to summon earl of demise and tribute that for dark ruler. Bakura had a very beefy line up and Yami Marik had no way to counter since he used vengeful bog spirit, it affects him as well. Also had bakura set monster reborn, he would have used it to summon a 4th monster on the field. He had it won. Boy what a f**k up for Bakura.

Its a result of being chained to the source material after having done a bunch of random changes in various duels. Though at least that duel was lightning quick so we didn't have to dwell on Mizar being sacrifical fodder. but the writing at least does get better starting with 5Ds as the misplays are far less common or reflect real life dueling circumstances and not just "Oh by the way, the plot says you need to lose this duel." like Duel Monsters and GX does a lot.

      That's how I feel about the actual game sometimes. Master Duel/TCG is only so long because the combos last forever, Duel links has faster pace but it's starting to catch up to the TCG where it's very unlikely duels will last past the 3rd turn, but when they do..... those are some of the most fun duels cause we both stopped each other's win condition but are in kind of a stale mate and now have to see who misplays first. It's so gripping. I tend to call those "Anime duels" because those trap cards you hear all the "top players" claim you should never use cause it's so niche end up coming in clutch and you actually see lifepoints go down to the hundreds and every drawn card potentially being your last. Just rare sadly that you have a really good duel like that.

    Since this duel happen in the manga it couldn't be change so much in the anime, so here is why in the manga they didn't do this:
    2:18 It needs Dark Necrofear in the GY to be resolve and have its effects, so been set could get the chance to get destroy, so that is a reason he did't set it.
    12:57 In manga Dark Necrofear can be special summon by banishing 3 fiends that were destroy in attack in the last 5 turn, so he could't be summon since marik haven't destroy that many monster in attack position.
    11:19 and like my first point since Dark Necrofear wasn't in the graveyard he couldn't have won by Destiny Boards effect.
    I know that manga and anime have different effect that they could't alter most plays in this duels since this is how happen mostly in the manga.

    Honestly Bakura throwing his strat out the window feels on point: Marik plays dirty head games all the time. He toys and plays with his opponents and uses outside knowledge for leverage. He rarely slips his own hand while keeping his opponents in the zone of discomfort.
    These misplays all seem fine and in keeping with Marik's design of dueling style....
    But it doesn't excuse Bakura. He played like he was nervous, unsure, or dare I say; scared. He has always played recklessly with shadow games probably because at the end of the day he is the darkness manifest. No shadow game can truly defeat him for long. But he acted like he was unsure this duel how best to proceed. He played reckless as usual, but he also had no head in the game. Could be Marik talking to him constantly, but this was a real mess. In a villain vs villain arc, you never want either villain to look weak, but in this case they made Bakura look like a clown. Not the strongest writing here as simple story telling could have made all this make sense.

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, I do play cautiously when I see a face down and go "That could be like Mirror force.... nad if I attack and get my board wiped, I will lose, better just pass this turn until i can get rid of it" only to find out it was some Blue medicine (any card that isn't some battle based board wipe). So I don't blame him for being cautious. BUT that said.... what else was he going to do with the card in his hand? Set it and forget it, if it gets blown then he has an alt win condition planned. It's not like timing a negate on the right monster to stop a combo where if you mess up, they end up on a monster that is immune to targetting. You only play cautiously IF a misplay will cost you the duel, but Destiny board was his call and good deck building would mean "I will play another win condition in case this one fails." So yeah Bakura was an idiot. His logic was sound, but just for the wrong situation.

    One thing I like a lot about Marik is how every other person who fights him is shown to actually have a genuine chance to beat him, so rather than Yugi being exponentially better than everyone else, it really just comes down to which of the protagonists is able to stick the landing. Like, I'm convinced that had Kaiba faced Marik in the finals, he would almost certainly have been able to win, even though his duel would have gone very differently from the duel Yugi had. What I don't like is how, because of the way they chose to demonstrate everyone else being capable of beating him, you get multiple duels in a row where characters realistically would have won, but suddenly found their brains had leaked out of their ears in the final few turns just so Marik won't be eliminated. Hell, if you count the four-way duel to determine the semifinals placement, Marik handily lost with basically no chance to do much of anything. Even though there weren't any real stakes to that duel, I think that was probably the best measure of his actual dueling skill in the series. When his opponent isn't being stupid for plot reasons, he comes across as just not being on the same level as the other contestants. There's a fine line between making the villain threatening but not insurmountable, and making them look like a joke, and while the series definitely strikes that balance well sometimes, it very much doesn't at other times.
    Bakura has no excuse, though. Every single anime duel he has is just him fucking around and then losing because step seventeen of his absurd thirty-stage plan fails to play out exactly how he wanted, and then he's got nothing. If he didn't do that, he honestly should have won every single duel he has until most of the way through the last season.

    • @DranzerG3
      @DranzerG3 3 месяца назад

      Yeah in his duel against Mai, it is a bit silly to use a card that has no text on it. That just seems too risky, especially when you've got the superior board with your 3 harpies.
      His duel against Joey however made sense since Joey was playing scared throughout the whole duel, cause of Yami Marik's aura and various trap cards. However, luckily in the vid TGS Anime did of their duel, someone in the comments already did a simulation of all the alternative plays Joey could've taken had he not been scared.
      I don't remmeber this accurately, but one simulation ends ambigiously, but slightly favoring Joey, while the other is a complete landslide for Joey if he got Jinzo out early. Makes sense given how busted Jinzo was, I'm surprised Kaiba never used him.
      And I agree, absolutely Kaiba would've beaten Yami Marik. Similar to Marik, Kaiba loves decimating his opponent's resourrces, but he also has the cards he needs to counter each God card, mostly with cards that just effect the player instead

    So that thing of Bakura leading people in to attacking by putting his weak monsters in Attack Mode is silly for two reasons;
    First, as you mentioned, the only time someone DOESN'T attack a defense position monster is when they can CLEARLY see the DEF Points are higher and, funny enough, a good bit of Bakura's low level monsters had beefy defense points so it's a bit counter intuitive for him to play them. BUT that brings me to the main point, the line of "They might be hesitant to attack Defense Position monsters" would only really work if they played Monsters face down, ironically an earlier duel with Yami Bakura and Yami Yugi in Duelist Kingdom HEAVILY emphasized this as YB kept playing face down monsters with either flip effects (Morphing Jar and Man-Eater Bug), or Negative effects such as Electric Lizard. But CURRENT Bakura doesn't have any monsters like that or at least doesn't show any in the Battle City Duels as I recall. Him baiting people in to attacking by placing faceup monsters would MAYBE be less weird if Face Down monsters were more prevalent at the time.
    And to the second point, this was the EXACT tactic style he used against Yugi in their Battle City duel of baiting the opponent in to attacking his monsters to set up for larger plays later, and if he had to throw out his Destiny Board strategy because "He knows of my Occult Deck"....why would THIS strategy be fine and dandy when Evil Marik knows what Good Marik knows? The more you think on it the less sense it makes.

  • @CascadeGamer
    @CascadeGamer 3 месяца назад +3

    I think it has to go with Yami Bakura simply being a terrible duelist. His strategy relies on his own power to instill fear into his opponents in order to cause them to stumble and fall into Bakuras traps. When people such as Yami Marik duel him..he loses on this strategy since Marik doesnt fear Bakuras power. Essentially...Bakura is akin to a bully who only targets people he considers to be weaker than himself. Such as was the case when he dueled Yugi when he was split from Atem. I suppose in the beginning Bakura was following Mariks lead on strategy and when he decided to ignore marik it was far too late as his own decks strategy was dusted since his win condition was in the graveyard.
    I think another anime thing to think about would be this...With the battle between himself and Atem in the past...would Ra even have obeyed Bakuras call to attack if he had retained all of his attack points. One would think that as deities...Ra would have knowledge that Bakura is Zorc...an ancient adversary that he battled against in the past. Even though he holds a millennium item...would that have even mattered? We even see something like this ahead in time in GX where he was compelled by a field spell to obey the duelist and when Jaden obtained control over Ra...Ra obeyed his command to attack without the field spell. I think this is a trait that is only attributed to Ra...he chooses who can command him. Whereas Slifer and Obelisk dont appear to have this trait. Him obeying Mariks will via the millennium rod does poke allot of holes in this theory...however...marik wasnt an ancient villain he fought against.
    Another question comes to mind. Just where did the Egyptian Gods come from? In the final arc its shown that monsters are spiritual manifestations of humans. With the god cards tablets being shown in these temples and also one of the high priests being able to crack one of their tablets which weakened them in real time. Since the ability to seal monsters into tablets appears to have started after the millenium items were created...were the gods sealed after? Or was it when the millenium spellbook was created detailing the method to craft the items in the first place? Either way...theres too many plot holes to even derive an answer as to the origin of the god cards.

    I remember a throwaway line at some point in the Duelist Kingdom arc where Ryo says he's been working on a fiend focused deck that he's really proud of, so I always just kinda thought that the reason Yami Bakura loses all the time is that it isn't his deck and he therefore doesn't actually understand how he needs to play it. While Atem and Yugi built decks together, Yami Bakura was ultimately just a parasite and stole Ryo's decks. Always seemed to play into the whole power of friendship/stronger together thing Yugioh had going really well

    Moreover, can we talk about the implications of Bakura WINNING here like he could have? What would the rest of the series have looked like? Would he have looked like the hero of this arc to the rest of the cast? Would he have kept Good Marik, Good Bakura, and Evil Bakura all sharing the same body and knowledge for the remainder of the Duel Monsters era?

  • @2BReel2
    @2BReel2 3 месяца назад

    And with that... That is the Battle City Finals done.
    The issues do lie with the duel originating from the manga (as do most of the "due to plot" moments from the original series) as the show changed the duels to more closely resemble real world rules and card effects at the time while sticking to how the duel played out as much as possible. This resulted in extra cards being played to compensate for these changes (like Scapegoat being played almost every time Panther Warrior needed to attack since it didn't need a sacrifice in the manga) and new cards being made up to replace cards with different real world effects from their first appearance (like Magician's Selection replacing Magic Cylinder in Yugi and Kaiba's coliseum duel).
    Most of the time cards aren't played, it's because, in the manga, there's both a limit of one row for Monster, Spell, and Trap cards since there weren't slots for back row cards on the duel disk (making it more like the frisbee yo-yo proto duel disks) and the rule of only one of each card type being played per turn regardless of face-up or face-down (meaning you can't set spells in the same turn Card Of Sanctity is played and it's unknown what will be drawn so playing anything could prevent a better card being played), which is never mentioned in the anime and is only followed by following events of the manga most of time and is only slightly brought up in the Joey vs Espa Roba duel as an altered rule of two of the same card in the same turn (since that never happens anyways) when Joey played his dice cards.
    One Turn Kill wasn't an official term at the time of this duel and referred to Ra's ability to instantly wipe out life points (as long as the only target wasn't a defense mode monster) due to its various "unknown" abilities. The instant attack was to bypass the manga Battle City rule of Special Summoned monsters not being allowed to attack when summoned rather than just Fusion Summoned monsters, which would make resurrecting a God Card pointless for attacking as they wouldn't last beyond the turn. Vengeful Bog Spirit was played to keep this limitation for Ra's debut of these effects.
    Essentially, this duel seemed to have the hardest time being brought to the anime, which is saying something considering how much every duel was affected by this.

    1. Bakura basically screwed himself over trying to beat Marik at his own game. He had so many ways to win but threw away basically all of them.
    A quick note tho, Bakura really couldn't use Destiny Board in the anime until Necrofear was in the GY. Which can only be summoned by banishin Fiends that were destroyed while in Atk position in the last 5 turns. So the setup to make his win condition happen would have taken almost as long as the Duel itself.
    But that doesn't remove that he had a near indestructible God Card on his side of the Field in defense. He could have just SAT on it and won through attrition
    2. All jokes aside, Bakura's "I AM the Darkness!" Was actually a really *cold* line. The fact that he was completely unphased by *literally dying* really sells that Yami Bakura was something more than just an evil Bakura.
    I just WISH they had shown some actual FEAR on Yami Marik throughout the Duel. As psychotic as he is, he does care about his own continued existence so reacting to someone even crazier than he is would have been cool.

    "Joyful Doom" is the most shenanigans card in the yugioh anime, it literally breaks fundamental rules of the game just for a single use case which is to prevent the winged dragon of ra from having any attack points. Usually you can't chain a trap card onto a normal summon, which means that the card has text that specifically states that you need to break this rule in order to activate it, because otherwise the winged dragon of ra would already be summoned with the attack power of the monsters and changing the values wouldn't do anything.

Also, I believe there is a moment where Bakura draws the A card and has it in his hand while playing exchange. I see a scenario where Marik, seeing Bakura has destiny board on the field, he would have taken it. You could say Bakura wouldn't play exchange in that scenario but seeing all the other Bakura's missplays in this duel... well, it's hard to tell.

    In the anime only, the God Cards can switch positions 1 time on the same turn (e.g. Ra being switched to Defense mode from Attack position). All the god cards share a few anime only affects (another being able to intercept an attack if they’re summoned from the graveyard).
