  • HBCU’s or historically black colleges and universities are institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with the intention of primarily serving African Americans. Most of these institutions were founded during the Reconstruction era after the Civil War and are concentrated in the southern region of the country. In the mid ‘80s, the idea was born for a tv show that takes place on the campus of an HBCU, located in the south, as the spin-off of the popular NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. That spin-off was called A Different World.

Idk who was worse…Regine or Toni. I could’nt STAND them when I was younger. Regine was not my cup of tea but I think Toni was the worse. The only times I enjoyed her character was when she got Jabari’s name wrong but other than that…ugh. That dentist deserved better than her.
PS: Kim Fields played Regine perfectly. In fact, she acted just like Regine when she confusingly appeared on Real Housewives of Atlanta for a season as if she matched that brand of television lol.

One of the best theme songs, cast and overall televisions shows bar none! This television show inspired a generation to want to go to college. The original cast was solid but the season two cast additions and show direction took the series to another level even though it didn't include Lisa Bonet, Marisa Tomei and Marie-Alise Recasner. It's amazing that this show didn't continue on with an evolving cast or that another of this same plot content hasn't been seen on network television since. It was a ratings winner! Thursday nights from 8-9 pm were on lock with ADW & The Cosby Show. How many tv shows had both Super Fly and Shaft on cast?

I like Aretha's and Boyz II Men renditions of the theme song.i feel like watching "Jason's Lyric" because that Allen Payne is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. And Debbie Allen brought some much needed spice to the series. It's why I was so determined to get into college which I did then went to the Air Force and got out got married have my kids and went back to school and now working in the medical field. Seeing black college students. Black men acting like men and so on is how I've lived my life along with my grandparents raising me. It all helped and I'm proud of where I am now.
