I just bought a 2001 Sequoia..only 123.000 miles and 1 owner it was a older gentleman that took real good care of her.im so glad to finally be driving the Sequoia!😀
Timing belt engine. Mine was done at 150000 miles when I purchased it. Owner said belt was in great shape. I believe Toyota recommends replacing at 100000 miles. Necessary to change water pump, thermostat and radiator at this time. Rear lift gate latch/handle will break. The "D" for drive gear light bulb will go out. Back window will function will break. The vehicle will go 1 million miles. Best vehicle on the planet. I used strut spacers so I could clear 265 tires. Aloha!
Had a set on my 04 Sequoia. They are great tires. My only complaint was the wear life. I drive dirt roads everyday and found that the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor outlast the BFG. Both were 10 ply.
On my Sequoia I put on some all terrain Bridgestone Duelers, I took off all my mudflaps, I like the look better. No running boards makes it look lifted as well with a great look.
Good morning Josh! Just ripped through your videos last night and finished up this morning. We have twin Sequoias (mine is an 03 though)! Same color, SR5, etc. Anyways, I picked mine up a few months ago and I love that thing! Your videos are fantastic and I'm really pumped to get this project rolling now! The only thing missing is the money 😂😂 As soon as I've got the cash I'm going to go crazy on your site. I wish I could express just how appreciative I am that you took the time to make these videos with such clear instructions and direction. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds! I'm going to send you a photo of me playing in some mud. No mods except a bull bar but I figured you'd appreciate the twin
Glad you liked the video series so far. Stay tuned, there's more to come. I'll look for your photos. Is it ok if I put it on he 1stgenoffroad Facebook page?
Love this guys videos I learn something new every time I watch one. Thank you for opening a shop for us Sequoia lovers I'm more then happy to purchase my future shocks, tires, wheels etc. Just need to figure out what is best for my truck.
Picked up an ‘01 last night, really glad I found your channel. Headed to FB now to add the page as well.. This vid alone pointed me in the right direction!
Those look great. Bought an 07 4wd sequoia today. Looks like i need some lift to start with. The rear tires are not great. But want to wait and get 33 inch tires.
I just made it down payment 15 grand for parts getting all the best crap getting my Sequoia gen 1 05 lifted I'm having a three and a half inch lift 35 inch tires getting new fenders that flare out getting a suspension. It's probably going to run me around 22000 to 23,000 I'm getting Jeep Summit 4 by 4 in Prescott Arizona to do it they are higher-priced and everyone else but the quality is unbeatable you definitely get what you pay for these guys... they will definitely be doing some cutting on it especially in the back because they can't find a rear fender that will fit so they will have to cut it out because 35 inch tires won't work without cutting.
I've an '02 Sequoia with 249k still running like new, but we've moved to the top of a mountain, and the drive down and up is fairly rough dirt/gravel, and downright crazy in the wintertime. Would love to add a bit of a lift and bigger wheels, so I'll check out your channel and website.
No alignment needed??? I'm going go with toytec 3 inch lift, stock wheels with 295/70r 17 km3 or toyo mt, I'm certain I'll need a 1.5 inch wheel spacer for clearance/rubbing. I just really like the stock rims. 2004 limited, thanks for your videos man!!!! You are a blessing for us who are starting what I feel to be the next hot item! Size, power, looks comfort!! I loved my 80's series!! But I will die with this rig!!!!
No. Alignment is needed. Don’t go with the Toytec kit. The rear shocks are too short and you’ll regret it. Ask Toytec how long the rear shocks are and then watch this video: ruclips.net/video/Z9btVVVU_QE/видео.html
I’m liking how your sequoia build is coming together so far. Can’t wait to see some trail testing on it. I stumbled across your videos trying to find some of sequoias off Road (I’m in the market for one). Got some good ideas now. Good work
Great video! I will be doing a 2 1/2 to 3 inch lift in the front with diff. 1" drop and I like your lift in the back with the the new springs and the second shocks it looks good. I will I want to go up just a little bit more then yours is. So she's at least level in the front with the back maybe a little less. But would like to keep mud flaps on. I have a 2002 SR5 with leather seats Burgundy and gray fender exits. Will check out the wheels with -6 rake on them. I like the copper tires better then BFs.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and share all this great info, super helpful! I am very interested in picking up a Sequoia and going with a similar 33” set up. If you ever have the time, would you mind taking a measurement from the ground to the roof of the car. I’m wondering if this will fit in our condo complex garage, or going to have to be parked outside. Thank you again!
Awesome video! Thank you! Now, Josh I have followed this video and put in Bilstein 5100 in all four corners. I am on the 3rd notch on the fronts with stock springs. Stock springs in the rear. Also put in the diff drop you recommended. But now the car squats in the rear just a tad? Would the Dobinson's or 60020L level the car out you think?
If you but 2" spacer or 2" different Offset, the wheel make exactly same movement, so spacer compare te Wheel ET make same thing... that is only a math!
Thanks for your videos man I have 2004 sequoia and I did the 4600's with spacers at front and new 2" coilspring on the rear and it looks sick!!! Just saving up to get bigger tires. I've thinking on installing a dual magnaflow exhaust. What do you think?
Yes sir I'm in the Killeen area and actually looking at a Sequoia used in temple, I have a new truck but just can't see beating the hell out of a brand new truck when I can get this one for 4500 bucks, if your in the area we definitely need to go wheeling. We are kinda limited here, unless we get area access pass for ft hood range roads lol
Timing belt vehicle engine. Replace with ONLY Aisin parts. Mine was changed at 150000 miles and was in great shape. Toyota recommends replacing at 100000 miles. MUST replace timing belt, radiator, upper, low hoses and water pump at the same time to have confidence in the cooling system. Rear lift gate latch will break. Replace it with an ALL metal one. The rear window function will break in time. I just do not roll mine down. The "D" indicator for the drive gear position light bulb will go out. The vehicle will go 1 million miles. 190000 miles on mine and runs like a champ. Best vehicle ever made. Just wish mine was a 4X4. Alo)(a!
I have a 06 tundra and it’s 2wd but I like the aggressive look I put a rough country leveling kit on it blocks and new shocks I want a good tire and rim combo and I don’t wanna have to trim I’ll take the mid flaps off and I wanna feel up that wheel well and complete the look of my truck I need help or advice on sizes
Google BFG Ko2 Dry Rot. You'll find all kinds of negative things about them. They only last about 2 years before they dry rot. If you go through tires faster than that then you'll be fine. I had KO2s on my 1st gen Tundra and replaced them when they had 60% tread left because two of them wouldn't hold air from being dry Rotted so bad. I replaced them with Terra Grapplers which were meh. So far the best OR tire I've owned is Cooper Discoverer AT/3
I always thought the hub centric issue was about wheel spacers. Some spacers have no hub centric ring and in my line of thought that's a big negative attribute.
Good morning all and Merry Christmas, I have the ARB 2in lift front and rear with JBA UCA and zero offset wheels. Do you think the 285/75R16 Tire will fit? I am looking at the General Grabber which are at 32.83''. Thank you for your help and thanks for the lift kit I bought from you! It all installed very nicely and feel great!
Question !!! what its the biggest size tire I can put in my sequoia without rubbing. current rims size 17 and no lift kit don't mind a little rub when full turn.
Josh, Thanks for the video! I have a 2002 SR5 w/ 140K miles and the ride is harsher now compared to when I first got it more than 10 yrs ago. Do think by changing the struts/shocks and changing all the bushings w/ polyurethane will soften thr ride?? Thanks for your help.
Glad you like the videos. Yeah, I think it would make the ride better. Probably a lot better. Are you looking to keep the same height or give it a lift?
Josh, I would like to keep the same height or else it wont fit in my garage. Do u have any suggestions on what kind of struts/shocks to get? KYB? Bilteins? Rancho? Should I replace all 4 at once? I'm running on 265/70R17 right now w/ mostly street driving. Appreciate the help.
If you're not going to lift the truck, I would go with these. Bilstein's. Adjustables up front set to the 1st notch/lowest notch. These shocks are good for. 0-2" lift. That way if you ever did want to put a lift on it, you could. Today is the last day to get 10% off with promo code 1stgen at checkout. Shipping is always free. www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p21/Bilstein_B8_5100_Series_Ride_Height_Adjustable_FRONT_Shock.html www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p32/Bilstein_5100_Series_REAR_Shock.html
Poly won't soften the ride. It'll make it harsher because it doesn't deflect and deform as much as rubber does, so more vibrations and bumps from the road will be transmitted through your frame. They also won't last as long as the rubber bushings, either. Keep the bushings OEM if they're worn. However, at 140k, I doubt they need to be replaced.
What would you suggest for both street and off road? I literally know nothing about tires unless they are tires that go on 18 wheelers. I am about to purchase a very nice 1st gen sequoia. My plan is to haul a power washing trailer with 2 200 gallon water jugs and some other pressure washing equipment. I want to be able to get decent fuel mileage but still have the capability to go off road.
Josh is the frame setup the same for an '06 with the air ride...or do I need some type of air ride conversion/delete kit with specific insulators and stuff? I want to switch over from the air ride.
Frame is the same for air ride. The airbag to spring conversion kit is here: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p1059/AirbagToCoilConversionKit2005-2007Sequoia.html
Thinking maybe locker or off road winch bumper. But Word is Warrior products is considering making a rack for these trucks. I would email them and encourage this. If they decide to do this, it will definitely be a video.
So I have a question for you. I just installed a 2.5” lift on my 01 sequoia and replaced the lower control arm / ball joints etc. I took it to have the alignment done and they said I needed upper control arms in order to correct the geometry and do the alignment correctly. Do I need a set of adjustable control arms or just one for the lift I have? And why control arms would you recommend? Thanks
Hi Michael. The SPC or Freedom Off Road UCAs will work for your application. I like SPC the best. Link: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p146/SPCUCAs/Tundra/Sequoia.html
Do you have any trouble with VSC lights coming on after lift around sharp corners? I have 05 Sequoia with Billstein 5100 and 33" Nito Grapplers and get beeping and VSC light around sharp curves over 30mph.
It did rub at full compression and steering wheel lock. Now I'm at just under 2" of lift. SPC UCAs to maximize caster. Same size tire on a 17"x9" wheel with a -12 offset. No rubbing anywhere, ever.
Hey Josh, great vid. Just had a quick question as I just picked up a 2002 Sequoia and Im looking to raise it a bit. I was checking out the Daystar 2.5" Body Lift Kit with strut and coil spacers and was wondering your take on it? Wanting to fit the same 33'' tires without breaking the bank. Thanks!
have yet another question for you. Have you heard or know.of a way to install a switch to bypass VSC/traction control? When going through mud and or snow the traction control is shutting my power off casuing me.to get stuck for bo reason.
Also can you confirm the correct model number for the Old Man EMU front springs for my '06 2wd? I want to replace my factory front springs as well. Thanks.
I have an 01 sequoia and I put the bilstein 5100 all around with the ARB 2885 and 2865 and I was wondering if the front factory axles will hold? Or should I look into getting different front axles?
Hey, I have a 02 Tundra. Do I have to upgrade upper control arms and struts if I want 16" rims with 33's? (I'm running 16" rims and 31's KO2, but wit stock struts and upper control arms).
If I want to have 17x8 pro comp rock crawler wheels with -6 off set, 4.25 back space. Plus 1.25 inch wheel spacers and 285’s BFG KO2 AT. Do u know if it fits fine after I removed the mud flaps?
hey josh, just purchased your 3" lift kit w/freedom off-road, my wheels are 16x7 w/+13mm offset, is the offset too high or you think it'll clear on 285 75 16?
Yes, it will rub with full left or right turning. My brother, @t, runs those wheels and they rub. I show you where at min. 27:30 in this video: ruclips.net/video/Nzmd5-fkuSQ/видео.html
If you're sensitive to rubbing, I would add a 1.25" wheel spacer. Go with Spidertrax. Made in the UCA, hub centric. Here's the link: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p842/SpidertraxHubcentricWheelSpacers.html
I am running 295s on my 05 tundra with -16 offset and I am still rubbing on fenders with the suspension fully compressed. Do I need stiffer springs or a bigger lift? Any thoughts are appreciated
Looking nice I have a 02 with same set up as you except I'm running 16x8 285/75/16 M/T maxxis bighorn.
Send some photos. I'll pout them on the Facebook page. 16" wheel with 33s is a good look. More tire, less rim the Maxis is a big cushy tire too!
Just saw you in sequoia-fourms.com. I'm also a member in there too. My member name is 2002SEQUOIA. Where can I send you some pic?

Thanks for the tutorial on wheels and offsets. As a non-mechanic who has plans of overland camping, this explained quite a bit.
Did he say I don't see much snow in Texas but maybe one day? It's prophetic

My plan is to haul a power washing trailer with 2 200 gallon water jugs and some other pressure washing equipment. I want to be able to get decent fuel mileage but still have the capability to go off road.
Thank. You. No seriously, thank you.
Josh is the frame setup the same for an '06 with the air ride...or do I need some type of air ride conversion/delete kit with specific insulators and stuff? I want to switch over from the air ride.
Frame is the same for air ride. The airbag to spring conversion kit is here: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p1059/AirbagToCoilConversionKit2005-2007Sequoia.html
what's next? skid plates? roof rack? lights?
Great content man! Do you guys sell kits to delete rear air bags to traditional coils? Just picked up an 06
Here you go: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p1059/AirbagToCoilConversionKit2005-2007Sequoia.html
Hey Josh, I have an 06 SEQOUIA limited 4x4 with captain chairs. What do you recommend for daily and some off roading tire and a schocks reccommedation
take a look at this kit: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p64/OLD_MAN_EMU_COMPLETE_SUSPENSION_KIT.html
And it's hard to go wrong with BFG KO2s.
Thinking about the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor.....@@1stgenoffroad
Looking nice!!!
Hanks! More upgrades coming soon.
Why not put it in the hole with the original jack in that stuff is for you text driver and your new driver for your wheel nuts!
Hmmm. Entire bell curve.
Excellent video , keep it up!
Thanks for informative video. I greatly appreciate your time and effort.
Do you have any trouble with VSC lights coming on after lift around sharp corners? I have 05 Sequoia with Billstein 5100 and 33" Nito Grapplers and get beeping and VSC light around sharp curves over 30mph.
Make sure the tire pressure isn’t too high. 38ish psi is good.
Do you also test clearance at full lock under suspension compression???
It did rub at full compression and steering wheel lock. Now I'm at just under 2" of lift. SPC UCAs to maximize caster. Same size tire on a 17"x9" wheel with a -12 offset. No rubbing anywhere, ever.
Hey Josh, great vid. Just had a quick question as I just picked up a 2002 Sequoia and Im looking to raise it a bit. I was checking out the Daystar 2.5" Body Lift Kit with strut and coil spacers and was wondering your take on it? Wanting to fit the same 33'' tires without breaking the bank. Thanks!
Do you offer a military discount by any chance?
have yet another question for you. Have you heard or know.of a way to install a switch to bypass VSC/traction control? When going through mud and or snow the traction control is shutting my power off casuing me.to get stuck for bo reason.
Find the fuse and pull it. Or get a small evap leak like me. Check engine light comes in and turns the VSC off.
Thank you
By the way your truck looks Great!
Thanks man!
Thank you.
Also can you confirm the correct model number for the Old Man EMU front springs for my '06 2wd? I want to replace my factory front springs as well. Thanks.
email me the details of how much lift you're looking for. info@1stgenoffroad.com
That looks great 🇺🇸👍🏻
You should be ashamed of yourself! That looks good as hell!
Ha ha! Thanks, man! Stay tuned. Bumper’s next.
Corey Pattison Yea disgusting! i tell ya! 😎
You didn't need to regear your truck after lift and bigger wheels?
No. 33s are okay. Any bigger than that and I would regear.
Hi Josh, on your second video, Ep.2 do you think by setting the shock higher will solve the 'rubbing' issue?
I have an 01 sequoia and I put the bilstein 5100 all around with the ARB 2885 and 2865 and I was wondering if the front factory axles will hold? Or should I look into getting different front axles?
I think they’ll do okay. When the boots start to sling grease, switch to high angle CV boots.
@@1stgenoffroad thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
Nice choice!
Thanks, man! Wheels and tires really do make a huge difference. My wife actually likes to ride in the truck now. 😉
Nice video! Why did you switch out the rear shocks?
Off topic but do you think 33s are too much for the 3.4l tundra to handle? Trying to decide on a wheel size for my overland rig
Nope. Have that size tire on my 3.4 4Runner.
You think 285/75r17 fits?
Hey, I have a 02 Tundra. Do I have to upgrade upper control arms and struts if I want 16" rims with 33's? (I'm running 16" rims and 31's KO2, but wit stock struts and upper control arms).
how do you adjust the speedometer for the bigger wheels? also would these tires work with a 17x9 that has zero offset?
Looks great!
Thanks, man! Don't forget to subscribe.
Would a 16x8 with 4.5" backspace and 0" offset and 285x75x16 on a 01' sequoia 4x4 with 2.5" lift ??
Yeah! Anything -12 to 0 will probably be ok. May have to remove mud flaps.
How much air pressure would you recommend on a 285x75x16 wildpeak atw3 load range E (10 ply)..01' 4x4 sequoia GVWR 6600#
42 psi on the highway.
1stgenoffroad
Thanks
Hey, I'm curious as to why you switched rear shocks. I have 2006 Sequoia RWD. Are the shocks different from a 4WD?
I switched to a longer shock to accommodate the taller spring.
I think this V8 is an interference engine so check your belt! sweet ride btw
Yeah, should have an new timing belt every 90,000 miles. I also change the thermostat, thermostat O ring, water pump, etc...
Thanx for making this
Yeah, man. More coming soon. Subscribe and you'll get every video I make.
Can I have a set for my 2003 Sequoia? 😎
Haha. Well, we do have free lugs, free shipping and free mounting and balancing on any tire/wheel combo. www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/c34/Wheels.html
If I want to have 17x8 pro comp rock crawler wheels with -6 off set, 4.25 back space. Plus 1.25 inch wheel spacers and 285’s BFG KO2 AT. Do u know if it fits fine after I removed the mud flaps?
with a 2" lift, yes.
@@1stgenoffroad THANKS!!! DO I ALSO NEED TO UPGRADE UCA AND DIFF DROP FOR JUST 2 INCH LIFT?
@@TexasAutobahn0810 Optional.
@@1stgenoffroad APPRICIATED!
Question. Will the 285/75/17r fit in the spare tire spot under the rear end?
Can you set 265/60/18inch stock GX Lexus on a 02 tundra? The tundra set on 16”s right now
hey josh, just purchased your 3" lift kit w/freedom off-road, my wheels are 16x7 w/+13mm offset, is the offset too high or you think it'll clear on 285 75 16?
Yes, it will rub with full left or right turning. My brother, @t, runs those wheels and they rub. I show you where at min. 27:30 in this video: ruclips.net/video/Nzmd5-fkuSQ/видео.html
If you're sensitive to rubbing, I would add a 1.25" wheel spacer. Go with Spidertrax. Made in the UCA, hub centric. Here's the link: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p842/SpidertraxHubcentricWheelSpacers.html
Hey Josh, I'm looking to run -38 offset SCS wheels on my 1st gen Sequioa. Do you think that's too much negative offset?
I don't know if it's too much. It will stick out about over an inch more that mine. It will look real aggressive.
I want to setup my Sequoia like this. Could you please give an estimate?Thank
you for your time Sir
send me your email. I’ll send you a package. Info@1stgenoffroad.com

Awesome job bro!
I am running 295s on my 05 tundra with -16 offset and I am still rubbing on fenders with the suspension fully compressed. Do I need stiffer springs or a bigger lift? Any thoughts are appreciated
Either bigger lift or figure out where it's rubbing and remove that part (i.e. pinch weld).
Hi, I just subscribed to your channel. I just a question about your lift, it’s just a 3” front and rear?
Thanks for subscribing. 2" front and back.
1stgenoffroad
Great thank you very much!!
Has any one put a -12 offset wheel, I saw 1st gen tundra that was lifted with bilstein's 6112 with - 12 offset on, Rotors 88 channel.
Do the bigger tires ride better? Any decrease in MPG?
I have an 06 sequoia limited, around how much would It cost me to throw on a 6 in lift with some wheels and tires
a 2 inch lift will take care of that rubbing
Running Icons now.
Why did you take the 5100’s off and switch to OME? I just ordered the 5100’s yesterday and now I need to know if i made a mistake.
They were too short. Take a look: ruclips.net/video/Z9btVVVU_QE/видео.html
10:40 to get to the point
I like it
Thanks, man. I like it too. Can't wait to get it dirty.
For sure
