The Delica was cool, but it does make sense to sell it given this will more or less replace it. Could even look at getting or building a camper trailer at some point, maybe something big enough to tow a car too. Like one end is camper and other is flat bed. The wheel not clearing the trailer is kinda a bummer. I'd be tempted to just leave it, and live with it though, unless you feel you need to get back there often throughout a trip. But typically once at your destination you'd probably want to unhook the trailer anyway.
@@_Gingium_ not to mention couldn't just turning the sequoia a little helps it ? Like if you really need to get to the trunk can't you just reverse like a meter while steering to the right ? I think it would turn the trailer enough to clear the wheel
Awesome project! Weight distribution hitches move the ball back a few inches. Plus they make the trailer tow better! I had a similar problem with my truck tailgate hitting the trailer jack. Weight distribution hitch moved it back just far enough and it’s perfect!
That 2UZ is a beast of an engine. The 4th gen 4Runners use an almost identical powertrain. Sequoia's are unbelievably capable for what they are. Wish you the best of luck on all the builds as always! As a toyota guy, I'm extremely hyped for this build.
Hello there young man, i have one of this and i use it for outerbanks beach days which i do weekly. I love the car but please update your tranny cooler after 1 hour of solid off road on sand the tranny and center case overheats. The kit is a great upgrade. Also rust protect all the rear gate insides they tend to fail. Otherwise when you do timingbelt change starter. Cheers and you are a great mechanic
You could articulate the hinge end so that the heim hinges lift up and also out, this would make the opening swing out closer to the body when it needs to be. Also at the left side, it looks like the end floats with a pin to keep it closed. You could use some tubing to rest the closed pipe into, cut in half horizontally like a u shape cupping it and taking the weight when closed, only like 50mm, and also pinned when closed.
Hitch extenders are pretty common. I've seen some long ones. A local guy has a 2 spot Skidoo bed mounted to the top of his box and the bed sits WAY out the back. I think his hitch extension is like a foot long.
First time seeing one of your videos 👍. Excellent work fabricating and recording your progress and why you make the decisions you do. Man, you have every tool imaginable and developed talent to make anything! Thanks for making the video and sharing!
I’ve been following Ging so long when I started watching his channel he had hair in his head. 😂😂😂 played some Forza Motorsport 4 with him back in the day too. Lol
I always enjoy the videos and your ever increasing skill set. Please incorporate some safety catch (or leash) to that spare tire. I don't think that carrier is going to last very long and dropping an 80 pound round projectile on the freeway is a HUGE liability. There will be no company behind the building of it to sue, guess where they will be coming....Especially with this video out there.
Yep i seen this coming a million miles away haha literally commented about it being turned from a tow rig into an overlander despite having an overlander i knew the other project would get ditched haha
Even tho you're not into serious offroading, I would recommend using a kinetic rope such as Yankum's instead of a tow strap if you need to recover / be recovered on an offroading situation. Tow strap are violent for the vehicles and you might damage tow points or even the frame of the vehicle if you bump it, while it's way less likely to happen with a Yankum Rope. Watch some Matt's OffRoad Recovery videos if you don't know what these are, you'll directly understand why it may be better With that said, for flat towing with using brute force / bumping into it to get things moving, tow strap is gonna be fine ;)
Mate that carrier on back is awesome looks factory man , I need one on my 80series I've got barn doors not a problem 👌 all I want on back is that setup so it holds a gas (LPG) bottle , 20litre water container with tap , Maxx tracks and a rubbish bag wooo hoo bloody nice 👍but I'm in Australia 😢
I'm worried the support you made that connects the body to the bumper is going to tear off. The frame is usually totally independent from the cab. Allowing the whole truck to flex on the body mounts and it being fixed at that one point might end poorly. Only speaking from experience I did essentially the same exact thing
If that tire mount is still wobbly could you add some tubing to connect it to the roof rack following along the C pillar? It's gonna be difficult to make that long of an unsupported beam sturdy without supporting it on both ends.
I tried something similar in my Jeep I found that rectangle tubing works much better because it has less defection on the flatter side but your it’s a great medium duty design mine was like 100 lbs by the end without the tire
We have a bolt onside off the tow system just turn it in and it takes out the wobble slackness , but rember too loosin it if pulling out the hitch , I tried sending a picture but it didn't work sorry
If you broke down while out of town, I'm sure it would be a lot easier finding replacement parts for the Toyota over the Delica. For that reason alone it's a great decision.
Just curious but why did you weld the spare tire rack to the frame instead of try to make it bolt on? Wouldn’t this make it annoying when the bumper needs to come off or if you were to want to replace it with a higher clearance bumper for more rugged overlanding?
I’m not sure how strong the roof rack is but would there be any way to attach a tube from the tire carrier to the roof rack? It would help with stability if the roof rack was strong. Just an idea
I love the delica, but the Sequoia is the better overall rig for a number of reasons.
Yup, the Sequoia is better in everyway, just a little less cool.
Those gold badges are awesome! In 2023 you can consider them to be retro.
Retro garbage. Gold badge so ugly..
Don’t say that. 😂😂😂 Making my 30 year old ass feel super old.
I agree. I almost blacked them out, now they’re my favorite part lol
Sad to mention that they don’t make gold versions of any badges
Toyota and Lexus are only making silver and black badges now
@@gamedestroyer8219 Usually those badges were dealer-installed, not OEM.
Delica was a cool build. Looking forward to what the future brings too!
Things are heating up for the summer!
Nothing hits the spot better than a lunch break, some good food, and a gingium video to watch
1st gen tundra/sequoia rigs are pretty indestructible. Good choice.
Definitely underrated
I would adjust the tire.. move it up a little and tilt the top back

Yeah that's a good point. I'll probably leave it for now and see how annoying it is lol.

And let's face it, i think you looooove building campers, every single one of them is better than the last, and yeah... i love watching the builds.
Yes, yes I do love building campers lol
@_Gingium_ and they just get better and better, I'll save up so i can afford to be a patreon hahahaha, here in Brazil, 1 USD costs almost 6 BRL

Where the pin goes for the swing out, you could try putting some kind of bushing to hold that side with reduced noise so it’s not metal on metal
7:47 H3 on the Telly? A cool channel on a cool channel! Hell yeah!
Hitch tightener is a necessity! I have a Horror Fright one. Works great.
I like this kind of build. Watching you fab stuff that isn't for going fast is refreshing.

You will never be able to replace the Delica! Mitsubishi is legendary!

I'm really gonna miss Delica... But I'm glad to see you doing more overlanding stuff, definitely bring more life into the channel.

Oh Jesus. A foot seems a bit extreme lol
You gotta get yourself a diesel tow rig Caleb. Preferably a Chevy or a Dodge. You can get those for cheap and reliable.
Maybe you should look into roof tents for sequoia. Not that expensive and saves a lot of space for sleeping
First time seeing one of your videos 👍. Excellent work fabricating and recording your progress and why you make the decisions you do. Man, you have every tool imaginable and developed talent to make anything! Thanks for making the video and sharing!
H3 x Gingium build. No idea what it would be but it would be rad. Love the Sequoia!
Why dont you make up few sections of metal bars from your roof basket and weld them to your pivot points for the swing arm. Like an exocage.
I love the Sequoia a lot more, honestly. Good choice, man!
Glad to hear it!
I’ve been following Ging so long when I started watching his channel he had hair in his head. 😂😂😂 played some Forza Motorsport 4 with him back in the day too. Lol
i love the camera work. very high quality

Love the Sequoia build! We've had an 07 for over 10 years. Lifting it and putting on 33s and 20s on her soon. Keep up with the great content. 👍
Yep i seen this coming a million miles away haha literally commented about it being turned from a tow rig into an overlander despite having an overlander i knew the other project would get ditched haha
The sequoia is just too practical to keep the Delica around lol
Please get rid of the gold badges. I love what you're doing, and it looks great! Hitch tighteners FTW!
I love that Johns still in the intro, so hilarious.
FYI, Koyo makes a radiator for the Sequoia. It’ll be better quality than anything else you’ll find on the market.
Gingium's Curling PB is an awning. good to know
3:06 this gave me some morning giggles lol thanks Ging
For the spare don’t extend the hitch just do modify the mount so you can mount it tilted just enough to clear the trailer

its been awesome watching your fab skills improve video to video, keep up the good work man! been watching since you were playing Forza
I felt when he said “but here we are” hate taking extra stuff off
Swing arm looks like an awesome 1/2 of a hammock stand to me
I never got that Delica anyway. RIP and cheerio.
Just put an exhaust on my 07 tundra, the 2uz is a great motor love the platform
Man. I've been looking at a Sequoia
Wish I could find one for 2000 around here.
If that tire mount is still wobbly could you add some tubing to connect it to the roof rack following along the C pillar? It's gonna be difficult to make that long of an unsupported beam sturdy without supporting it on both ends.
My thought too

You technically welded the body to the frame. The frame and the body move independently because the body mounts are flexible.
I saw it coming
Delica as good as it is, have very niche purpose since it can't really tow
gonna miss the Delica, but the Sequoia is gonna be sick!
Do a giveaway on the delica. Makes more sense than just tring to sell it
I know plasti dip is frowned upon using on a car, but the gold emblems plasti dipped black would look killer on the white paint of the sequoia.
Good call switching over to the Toyota. Now you can go out feeling confident that you can get through anything instead of wondering if you´ll make it.
On Australia we run 150mm extended swing arms... if our government says it's safe you can probably extend it 3 foot and still be safe.
It would be awesome if you sold the delica on cars and bids! Might get more!
LOOK INTO A GEN-Y HITCH. YOU CAN INSTALL A SPARE TIRE CARRIER AND A HITCH BALL AT THE SAME TIME SO YOU CAN CLEAR THE TRAILER BOX AND TOW
Just make a lateral spacer to move the two tire studs upward
You should replace the front bumper with a off road bumper and get a winch.
Would love to fabricate one sometime!
Great EP 😎
My question is why didn’t you put the spare on the roof rack?
Ordered one of their traction board sets. Cool that theyre cheap and have lifetime warranty
Heck yeah! You'll love em!
If you could move the mount for the spare just a few inches it should be fine.. use a adapter bracket in between the mount the welded
Неплохо, красавчики 👍🙂 А навес бокой почему в мягком чехле, из металла надежные будет.
Many companies make a trailer hitch that is extra long to clear tailgates and hatches
Delica was so cool but hell you can't beat a v8!
Welcome to the 1st gen Sequoia Overland gang!
We have a bolt onside off the tow system just turn it in and it takes out the wobble slackness , but rember too loosin it if pulling out the hitch , I tried sending a picture but it didn't work sorry
had a set of accelera omikron ATs on my crv and they didn't last long =/ hopefully they'll be better on your rig.
make some rock sliders and attach spare wheel bracket to that.
If you broke down while out of town, I'm sure it would be a lot easier finding replacement parts for the Toyota over the Delica. For that reason alone it's a great decision.
Why not tie in the the mount into the roof rack?
No hate but you should get one of the pipe adapters you use on the drift truck so that you can remove this tire rack to service tail lights
Link to buy the Deli?
Link to the for sale ad??
What spare tire mount?
I would have went up to the roof rack personally for stiffening, and then your ladder could have been part of one or both of those supports
Ultimate Towverlander
the sequoia just makes more sense for multiple people. the delica is great for one person, but you add a second person and its just too small.
Hey bud the name for rigs like this is a crawl n’ hauler
Ooooo I like it!
No roof top tent?
I spot a fellow foot soldier!!!!
ill buy the delica
Just curious but why did you weld the spare tire rack to the frame instead of try to make it bolt on? Wouldn’t this make it annoying when the bumper needs to come off or if you were to want to replace it with a higher clearance bumper for more rugged overlanding?

The delica was fun but this makes way more sense
Halfway through why not two pipes going up to the roof rack on the side so the back door can still open
I was waiting on a video from you bout the drift truck
Sorry brotha, it's pretty much done but we've been waiting on parts from powdercoat for like 2 weeks. It was supposed to take a few days...
The ladder is already on the suv it's called the tire you have 2 ladders and a platform called a bumper
A long way from the Ford deisel school bus makeover.
I would love to see a truck build on this channel, an actual dedicated truck for towing
I would love that too! I can’t afford a nice truck yet lol. That’s the goal someday though!

Why do you have a Birmingham, Alabama plate? I thought you were in Georgia.
What sweater are you wearing? Looks neato
Thank fk for that! Thought you meant the sequoia 😅
yesssss
Where is the drift truck video
Step by step with the timing belt im getting ready to do my uz timing belt
You're gonna need license plate lights if your gonna mount the plate near the spare tire.
