I always thought that her replacing Mia and living with Ethan maybe started off as a way to kidnap Rose and / or study her but then she stayed bc by doing that she could be a mother again, that would make her character deeper considering she basically almost causes an apocalypse on earth just for the sake of having her daughter back. She wants to be a mother again so she prolongs her stay with Ethan and pretends to be the mother of her chosen vessel just to feel that way again, a feeling so strong she even delays her ultimate plan just to feel it a little longer.

She would knew about power and capabilities of the progenitor and later iterations like the C virus..the progress Spencer, umbrella and later on the Family achieved. Being able to create perfectly aged and genetically matched clones.
Combined with the molds memory imprinting properties or the mind copying technology of Alex Wesker. She would've been able to have as many baby Eva's as she wanted.

Reading these types of comments just make me think about the lore found at the mill about how Miranda didn't allow newspapers from outside of the village to be read by the villagers. There'd be incentive for many of the villagers to leave just because how could they not be? She needed them to depend on her and stay close to be part of her experiments. Besides, her end goal was completely different from Spencer's. Based on aspects of his letter and conversations they had during his stay, she probably made character judgments about Spencer that could have ended up being threats to her work and her control over the village and the mold. He'd probably end up overstepping onto Miranda's agenda just because he's so self-righteous (even if he held her in high regard) and try to take the megamycete for himself. What could she really do with mold, 4 lords, and a helpless group of isolated villagers against futuristic weaponry and a bigger number of bioweapons?

Of the many characters in Resident Evil, Miranda and the 4 lords were definitely the most tragic in terms of villains. Miranda herself being a victim of the Megamycete. Her grief caused her to do so many horrible things just for the chance to hold Eva again. Although I do wonder why she never tried to reach out to Spencer again, either before or just after the events of Raccoon City. It occurs to me that each had something the other wanted. Spencer had the ability to create a perfect enhanced clone of Eva for Miranda while she could have given Spencer the immortality he craved. I can see Spencer setting up a research lab there and continuing his experiments with the progenitor virus strains and the mold. I can even see Miranda helping him build it beneath Heisenberg’s factory with Karl trying to turn them against each other.

I think Miranda was very underutilized in the story I'll explain:
    1. I think Rose should have been Miranda and Ethan's daughter. it makes more sense considering what we find out about Ethan and Miranda at the end. Both had their lives saved/extended by the Mold. It would tie into Miranda's character of wanting family considering that she herself is heavily mutated by the mold it would make sense for her to able to have a child with Ethan. Also maybe it's just me but all the flashback scenes with Mia are actually Miranda it seemed she actually started to care about Ethan and was enjoying living with him and Rose (Woman was learning and cooking traditional cuisine for him reading bedtime stories to Rose or maybe I'm just imagining things but i note she did give him to Heisenberg who she knew wanted to overthrow her, maybe trying to give Ethan a chance to escape). it could be in Chris's part that we find diary logs of her observing Ethan and Mia switching out and her starting to consider permanently replacing Mia.
2.Chris attacking that house could be what brings out her old "Mother Miranda" personality and that's when she stops pretending that she could stay with Ethan and Rose in the world but plans to bring the them into the village and become apart of her "Original" family.
    3. I would add a radio feature like Leon had in RE4. this way we can her more dialogue between the Lords, Mother Miranda, and Ethan. While the lords would taunt, mock, and threaten Ethan Mother Miranda I think would simply have casual conversation trying to make Ethan see her side of the story and how she "saved" the villagers and the Lords. remember she was around during the time the Spanish Flu was ravaging Europe would it be safe to assume it ravaged her village to and she saw how the Mold saved her it could save others we know Alcina is almost as old as her as she is the eldest of the 4 and was saved due to the Cadou and the Mold from her hereditary Blood disease.
    4. if you look at the 4 lords they are each stereotypical problem children: Alcina is the Perfectionist and the one who is considered by the others to be favorite, except herself due to her needing to drink blood to live, Heisenberg the rebellious son who wants to go his own way against his mothers wishes, Donna is the mentally ill child, who cannot function normally with others, Moreau is the Handicapped child that tries to do thing he see's his siblings do but can't due to his handicap. Rose represents a flawless child of Miranda unlike the others and this would explain their extreme hostility towards Ethan as he (and rose) changed something in their "mother" that they couldn't over the decades they spent in isolation with her.
    5. the Final battle now has even greater context as Ethan has killed all her former family and now the only thing she has is Rose so she won't be alone anymore and she tries to convince Ethan to join her and help raise rose (revealing that she was pretending to be Mia and is Rose's real mother) to rule the world it goes like it does in canon and she kills him when he rejects her and we get our Chris playthrough, the revel the real Mia is alive, and the final battle. and everything goes as it did in the game with Mia raising Rose her final memento of Ethan.

"... Would it be safe to assume it revaged her village...".
It would be more than safe, and not an assumption. It would be a fact. Mentioned in writing and illustration in the story. Her daughter Eva died from the Spanish Flu, buried in the village. She went to the cave to to end her life unable to live without her daughter. Then discovered the megamycete and upon touch absorb the knowledge of the history of it and unknown amounts of information from those whose "lifeforce" it had absorb that had been in or around the village. (Including her daughter, EVA). She says in jer dairy that she then began to "infect" the villagers with this stuff, allowing them to become submissive towards her making it easy for her to run experiments on them in search of the perfect vessel to resurrect Eva. To the illustrations at the end of the game during the credits we see that she was able to do this because the villagers trusted her because she was the priest at the church or priestess when a child comes to her sick with again the Spanish flu she's able to save her using the mold little girl lives and the villagers start coming to her to receive the same treatment thus how it was so easy for her to infect the entire village and make them submissive towards her after saving the child that's when they villagers began to see her as their Goddess.
I really like your theory/idea on Miranda basically just permanently taken on the role of Mia, and raising Rose together with Ethan. The only flaw with it is her obsession since 1919 has been to resurrect her daughter Eva I don't think she's capable of having emotional feelings for anyone else or for anything else she has mindset to bring her daughter back and that's it. But I like your idea better, and mostly because As a mother myself it was very awkward running around this village collecting flask with my in-game child's body parts in it. Because for Miranda to be so obsessed with family she had no problem breaking a 6 month old baby into four pieces. All in the name of getting her daughter back... 😱

One reason for some of her questionable choice could be that at heart she was more of a religious person than a scientist. While she did perform various experiments, maybe I missed something, but how scientific was her approach in the first place? Did she analyse the four lords, trying to determine what made them more compatible than others or did she go with the "apperture science" approach of throwing things at the wall and see what sticks?
And the way she tries to revive her daughter is very ritualistic.
So the entire plot of the game might be simply happening because in her twisted mind she came up with some ritual, that required all of this.

A parasitic relationship implies that only one party benefits off of the relationship living off the host to the detriment of its existence. Mutual benefit is a symbiosis no matter how minor it is. There's a second type of symbiosis or would you rather say it's not parasitic but only one party befits while the host at least has no downside to it. Like clownfish living in an anamone. Or certain fish hiding inside of sea cucumbers.

Miranda's a great villain. Ethan was right about her, ultimately. The person she became after Eva died isn't capable of real love.
I feel so bad for all of Miranda's victims, but the biggest is Eveline and the Bakers. Eveline was created to eventually become somebody else. She was a child who was treated like a monster all her life, and never knew what it was like to be loved. I don't blame her for becoming so sadistic and twisted. The Bakers (except maybe the brother) were good people who suffered as a result of everything done to Eveline as well.
I think that's why Eveline told Ethan the truth about his body--she might resent Ethan for his part in her death, but I think she hated Miranda more. I think she was hoping to spur Ethan on just long enough to kill her.

I like to think that it was the part of Eveline that lived in Ethan that took Miranda's powers away. As much as Rose is oh-so-powerful, she's a baby and pretty incapable of reason, while Eve is skilled at controlling the mold. That'd also be in character for her, Rose is as much her daughter biologically as Mia's and Ethan's so it'd make sence for her to protect the family she always wanted (in face, her pep talk to Ethan already speaks to that).

3:46 "If." "If?!" It sounds like Miranda was doing a ALL OF THIS on a wish, hope, and a prayer. I mean, I don't blame her for. She was suffering from thr death of her daughter, so she probably wasn't thinking straight. A part of me likes to believe Eva, for what ever reason, wasn't in the megamycete. Yes, Miranda had her DNA to give those scientists. But did the megamycete ever have Eva's consciousness, her "soul?" I feel like if Miranda's plan did "succeed," she would have gotten a copy of Eva. But considering all she's done to get to this point, I think she won't mind either way.

Yes, Eva's consciousness is in there. Her diary directly tells us that the megamycete absorbs the consciousness of those who died regardless if infected or not. Eva died in the village and the megamycete is near the village so everyone that died there is somehow absorbed by the megamycete. The mold from the megamycete acts as its extension so that it can absorb consciousness even in as far as america. That's why we see Eveline in Ethan's consciousness even though she died in Louisiana

I don't think he's "weak" he has clear motivations and personality, just as single minded as previous player characters. The switch to first person from third person brings some upsides and downsides. There are only so many hand gestures and animations you can do while looking through Ethan's eyes. If you look at Leon in third person it's so much more you can see, his idle animations, a more movie like 3rd person observer view when he's fighting in cutscenes with Krauser. I think Ethan is exactly what he was needed for.

Some people say Miranda and Spencer knowing each other is shoehorned in but I think it can be believable. Spencer was still a character that was in the shadows and they didn't reveal absolutely everything about him in Resident Evil 5. I know it can feel tagged on since they weren't thinking ahead but it doesn't hurt to add more lor to Spencer especially before he made umbrella.
I liked Miranda as a villain but I easily would've chose Lady Dimitrescu as the main villain since I found her way more interesting.
That male form of Miranda and it having a Dragon form is really interesting, I'm glad they gave it to Alcina instead.

    • @windandcloudshadow158

What keeps it from being believable and in fact being shoehorned in is that we barley know anything about her we get all of one game to believe that this chick had hands in molding one of the most evil and prolific organizations that the entirety of Resident Evil universe is built around.

It's easy to compartmentalize things, especially after trauma. The Baker Incident traumatized him. One of the DLCs to add RE7 content into REVillage was called the "Trauma Pack".
Also, they had Rose tested again and again and were told that she was "normal". So, to him, in his gasping moment of feverish panic, he's going through confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance, the latter of which is not a state that the mind can exist in perpetually. Ethan wants to believe that his daughter can be saved but he doesn't want to admit that this means she's "different" or "changed". Also, he's trying to process all this while dealing with mortal peril from inhuman creatures. He's got no time to mentally or emotionally process anything.
