  • This video explores why Salvatore Moreau had a Sad and Twisted Story in Resident Evil Village. Where we explore his background, insecurities compared to the other lords of the Village Region, his unhealthy obsession to please Mother Miranda, and so much more.
We also explain his overall character concept design and development and how many influences are used to create a mutated version of a Merman. Which all this will be explored once Ethan Winters arrives at the Moreau reservoir as he tries to save his daughter Rose. Though eventually at the end of the Moreau territory we have to have the Moreau boss fight where he was a surprisingly a tough monster to fight against.

I was under the impression that his obsession with Miranda was because she was the only person that was willing to talk to him. One thing I did really like is that in one of his notes he questioned what would happen after Miranda finally got her kid back and was afraid that she would abandon him. Similar to Alcina he wanted to be seen as special but was viewed as the lesser of the 4.
Salvatore's personality, voice and his home having an old TV and a bowl of cheese makes me think he should be a Donkey Kong Country character. He's strangely the most light hearted of the villains despite the experiments and horrid design.

Another theory to think about with his "obsession". Mother Miranda says that the black mold holds memories of everyone it touches, this is why she believes she can even bring back her daughter by using the mold. If all lords were infected to see if they would be the perfect child , it's not far fetched to assume Eva's memories or whatever were in him causing the obsession with Miranda.... calling for mama. If you think about it the story goes that eva got the Spanish flu before death. His mutation and sickness could also be representing memories of Eva being sick and calling for mama before death.

It's crazy, sad, and irony. Moreau came from a family of doctors. Moreau might have been like the black sheep (or black fish) of the family and became a fisherman instead. All Moreau wanted was love and he was willing to help Miranda kill innocent people. Miranda was just using him for her selfish reasons. If Miranda did show any love, she would have help him with his problems and his insecurities. She would have at least give him a better home to live in the Reservoir like Dimitrescu, Donna, and Heisenberg. Moreau was too simple-minded to see the red flags. He overused his transformation causing them to be unstable. He was unable to control it.

Donna showed a lot of signs of mental disability/illness, as stated by Miranda, and had a very childlike point of view, as well as taking in and responding to information similarly to that of a child. So yes, she had the thought process and mannerisms/behaviours of a child. It was also made clear, especially by the Benviento’s gardeners, that Donna was very shy and mainly only used her dolls to speak. Yes, the dolls are a part of her. You can see bits of the Cadou in Angie’s face (although that could have just been Donna since it really was her all along). Donna was not one for kills, and instead stayed in her house alone, making dolls and planting the yellow flowers. She even let the gardener see his deceased family, so Donna was actually fairly benevolent, until Ethan, and even then she never directly harmed him. One in his head, one in his chest and another in his back. When I first saw that I thought that Miranda thought he wasn't strong enough or one Cadou didn't do anything so she kept adding more and they disfigured him more and more.

Even though all of them were evil Donna and Moreau were sympathetic but Alcina and Karl weren't. Donna may have made people hallucinate their fears with her plant spores then killed them but being left alone after her parents died and Miranda taking advantage of that to manipulate and infect her is tragic as is nothing Moreau does being good enough for Miranda. None of it excuses them experimenting on and either turning people into Lycans, killing them or cutting up Rose.

The way he speaks and how he is obsessed with miranda sounds like a child. Maybe she took him in when he was just a child living on the streets and used him for her experiments way back before the others were created. One thing I've noticed through all of the Miranda "children" is that they really do have child like mentalities. Some more than others, they all were "adopted" within a deep time of need which in some ways i believed solidified their mental state as children and inferior to mother miranda. Even Alcina, who has daughters of her own, acts childishly by arguing with Heisenburg and we can see she becomes incredibly stressed at the idea of losing Ethan and disappointing Miranda during her phone call. I think it really just plays to the manipulation Miranda had. She wasn't just the most powerful, but she really infantalised her peers and "children" to the point where it feels like an actual family dynamic of adult and child. I think Beneviento and Muearo are the best examples of this because of their more obvious child like behaviour. Beneventos whole story is that she was a young anti social and anxious girl who basically became solidified in a case of her own mourning when her parents died that she still doesn't truly "speak" and only does so through Angie. She was so overjoyed to be "adopted" by Mother miranda as she desperately seeked a caretaker and I almost feel bad when you have to kill her in game because she does feel like a victim in some way. She is the most "innocent" out of the four, childishly seeking attention by being bold, rude and cheeky through Angie as a second persona. And we see that Moreau is the neglected child that constantly seeks the attention of Miranda despite being seen as the most "disappointing" of the four. Heisenberg, to me at least, genuinely seems like a rebellious teenager in the way that he acts. Even though he is considered the most resourceful and the "favourite" if you will, he still seeks to childishly rebel for his own selfish reasons. It really reads to me like a typical teenager that wants to desperately to be an adult. While I think Alcinas is much less obvious, there are still signs that she is subject to this childish mentality at the hands of her "mother". While she is incredibly powerful, domineering (quite literally), has children of her own and has an entire castle estate we still see her buckle under the stress of disappointing miranda. It really radiates eldest child vibes of even despite being an "adult" she is still scared of her elders or parents and their expectations beyond childhood. This is why I love the cast of this game so much and in particular the villains, because they aren't just a super league of baddies that want to get you for the sake of getting you but they're a strange "family" that all have intimate ties to one another while also suffering psychologically at the hands of Miranda. They are in a way, from a distant past, all victims themselves... as they were all guided in to her care as misguided test subjects who believed they were chosen and special by the all mighty mother miranda. While she pretends to value them like children, she really only cares about her one "true" daughter- of which if you read her notes you see how quickly she dismisses them as they aren't suited "vessels" for Eva. I love how they really brought how Mirandas motives in every aspect. It's not just how she wants to reincarnate her child, but how she has reached such points of power and its still not enough. She has tried to fill the void by "adopting" others and making them emotionally depend on her love, making the village see her as a holy being, an all present paternal source of love like a god, and makes the hugest hypocrite move and steals someone else's baby away to make herself happy despite knowing how much pain it brought her. Awesome game!!

Like I have such a hard time watching gameplay of other resident evil games because everything is so nassssstty and fleshy and body horror-y, but with Village it was like "Wait....it's like regular monster movies until like...final forms, but even those didn't make me as uncomfortable as previous villains- closest is moreau though- he's soooooo nasty and full of fluids and pus and nastiness- even HE makes himself puke....but I thought his character was a bit charming- like he is nasty, but he doesn't seem like such an evil dude, he just wants some love...but then the growth on his back and the eyes all over his final form......barfffff CITY!!! Still, none of that holds a candle to mutant baby. mutant baby is the most terrifying and "worst" part of the game (like it wasn't bad in gameplay, but just a bad time...with baby...) ick.

Man, what a great story that would have been. A person he was in love with transformed by the parasite into an abominable fish creature that slowly died while on land. In a weird and twisted act of love, Moreau carried them on his back to the water while they succumbed to the transformation of the parasite.
When he got to the water, however, he would be unable to release them as the parasite itself had silently begun to fuse to his own back. Now tormented by the creature clinging to him, his body rejecting the advance of the parasite, he lives a painful and grotesque life while struggling to hold on to his humanity.
Attempts are made to recapture the small pleasures of his old life, such as savouring his favourite cheese or wines. He struggles in vain to pursue some semblance of hope that his beloved can be transformed back to the way she was.
Everyday he is drawn to the water, and the longer he resists its pull, the more sick and pain he feels. He endures this gut wrenching, vomit inducing nausea until he must satiate the needs of the creature on his back. Out of pain, he releases himself to the water, where the creature takes over and can flourish again and again. While the feeling of sickness fades, it is not long before it is replaced with the torment of water rushing into his still human lungs, unable to breathe, always drowning and yet... unable to die.
His experiments on the villagers are an exercise in futility to learn how to reverse what has been done. As time goes on, parts of his mind are lost to the parasite. With failure, his defences falter and the parasite plunders his intelligence to the point where he has forgotten why he began the experiments in the first place. Miranda abuses this fact by brainwashing Moreu. She hijacks his unrequited feelings that still linger from what little part of himself remains.
Now as he lives between two worlds of hell, either drowning in an endless sea of vomit or in the sullied waters of the dam, his only console is the love of Mother Miranda... whomst he will do anything for.

And by draining all of his water his status as a noble is even further put in question seeing as the resairvoire is the hairloom of his family wich gave them prominence and such a high status.

this four lords, Mother Miranda on top and Mold...
make me thing of The four Emperors, The Gorosei Master Im-Sama as Miranda,
The Mold and he fuse with her and the villiage land as Onigashima-version of the whole cacke island, and how big mom fuse herself with with him, make him "alive".

He reminds me so much of the Lovecraftian tale “The shadow over Innsmouth” witch also inspired the fishermen village in Bloodborne DLC. Awesome design

He's as pitiful as he is disgusting. His longing to be accepted by his family is simpathetic, sure, but he's also the one responsible for countless lycans and the other monsters we encounter in the game. He robbed countless families of their future just so he could be accepted by a group of people virtually incappable of love. For that, he gets no mercy.
