Glad this showed up. When I had my 1st surgery, the pt had me do it the reverse and that was painful. My son ended up hiring a company to transport me and bring me up.
The home pt when I told him what the hospital pt did, he was upset.
I learned to go down the stairs backwards. That was much easier to manage.
Now I am facing my 2nd surgery on the other knee in about two months.

You can go sideways or just might have to wait until pain subsides. It’s tough with both knees!

@@dr.samanthasmith Thank you so much doctor. Actually three months back my left knee was operated. I have decided to go for the right after six months. I can't go before I get the support of the left knee as my non-operated right knee is giving now.

Dr Smith. I am on my second total knee replacement. Oh how I wish I had found you when I did my first (R) one in February of this year. You have been an amazing blessing to me. I have watched so many of your videos on RUclips. I have asked my surgeon’s PA, my home health PT as well as my Outpatient PT why my knee is so painful at night. My Surgical Team and Therapists are great, but I am one that needs an answer that I can understand. Everyone just agreed with me that “Yes” it is more painful st night, but when I would ask, they all would respond. “it just is”. I also wanted to know why I had so much stiffness in my knee. When I found your videos, you not only acknowledge the facts, but explain so that the situation can be understood. My Friend had a total knee surgery 2 months before me in Calif. we had the same questions about things. I sent her a couple of links on the night pain and stiffness. She loved the videos and asked me “why don’t the Dr’s and Therapists explain that to you?” So others are benefiting as well. Another Friend had a total knee surgery today. I will direct him to your sight as well. Again, thank you so much for all you do. You are a great help! May you continue to be a blessing to others. 💜

Six months out from my TKR I'm walking 2 to 3 miles a day stairs still give me trouble and my knee is still swelling especially at night after a day of walking around. I think they need to give you the narcotic pain killers for a little while longer.

I had my right knee done in December 2022, is still sore & numb on the outside . Had the left knee done November 2023 so am just over 6 months. I walk well but getting up & stairs are very sore. My surgeon says all is good with the knees as they are internally still healing but wonder how long before they just feel “normal” ?

Since I still can't put full weight on my knee, I use a cane along with the banister to help get me up and down. The cane gives me extra stability. When I was released from the hospital I actually went up the front stairs backwards using the walker. Not the idea way and apparently not used before because the people at the hospital were shocked when I suggested it. But for me it worked.
