  • In today's video, I share the signs they will hire you. As a recruiter, I share some of the telltale signs you can look for that indicate not only did they like you as a candidate but that a job offer might be on its way. The interview process can be frustrating, and it can be really challenging to understand where you stand in the eyes of the hiring managers, HR people, and recruiters, but if you look there are absolutely signs. I lay out some of those signs so that you can have clarity after your job interview.

I don't think I've ever had a recruiter check-in with me. I'm always contacting them. It feels like they are bouncers rather than recruiters. 😅

Honestly, often they are just crazy busy. That’s what it comes down to.

I agree with Ben. If a recruiter feels like you’re a fit for a role they “keep you warm”. people don’t realize that a really good recruiter has not one job but possibly 20 jobs they’re working on at the same time. It is a supply and demand market. Right now there’s a huge supply of candidates looking for jobs, but the demand is not that high. That means it’s more resumes and applicants to filter through within a 24 hour period. that is thousands of resumes. Every day. If they have not called you back and you’ve been persistent… That’s probably a sign for you to move on because they’ve probably identified someone else AND they’re really busy.

Wow this was helpful because I had 2 people brought in on my 1st video interview via zoom . They kept checking in with me and the manager said that she wanted to hear more about my experience in facilitating a counseling group with 35-50 people in it when she meets me. She also asked me if I planned on returning to the job that laid me off
There were alot of signs indicating a job offer was coming and sure enough I was offered a job

Hey Ben, love your videos , thank you so much. I just had a question. In the second round of interview i was not asked about the salary expectation. Even though they confirmed that it would generally be a two round interview. Should i be concerned that they have not asked my salary expectation?
    Thank you.

The tour the place bit makes me so mad. That happened to me while I was interviewing with my dream employer. I killed the interview but I did not get the job. I was gutted for months about how unprofessional they were afterwards.

I had a 2nd round interview last week and I believe the interview went pretty well. Had really good engaging conversations, both interviewers asked me a ton of questions both technical and behavioral and about the future goals of the organization. It felt really personable and easy to communicate with both individuals, and we even exceeded the interview time by 15-20 min. It even went over into the next interviewees time. I was told I was be hearing back about a final decision come Monday or Tuesday. Only for me to get home and receive a message from indeed saying that I was not selected for next steps. I only ever spoke with the receptionist for scheduling through indeed, so I am feeling a little disappointed. But I love your advice, I’ll keep pushing and learning what I can from my interview experience.

I had an interview for an internal position. Instead of HR or Talent Acquisition, Talent Acquisition set the first interview up with the Hiring Manager. Hiring manager was very friendly. We both laughed and smiled. It went over by 7 extra minutes. The only thing that troubled me is she only asked me 3-4 questions and not a lot about my qualifications. She went in depth about the role and team, then said TA will get back to candidates next week , and potentially do second interview rounds. Thoughts ? Please advise what you make of this. Thank you! 🙏🏽

Last year I had interviewed at one of the biggest tech companies. They actually flew me out to have an onsite interview that lasted 6 hours with multiple team members. The cadence of interviews were about once every 1-2 weeks. The hiring manager was AWESOME. Very friendly, and he really seemed to be selling me on the role (especially since it required me to relocate my family).
However, after the final onsite I got nothing but crickets for about 4-5 weeks… The recruiter never responded to any of my follow up emails, until I sent an email saying I had another project extension coming up. It wasn’t until about 6-7 weeks until I got a casual mention that I wasn’t selected for the role. Talk about totally misleading headfake. The hiring manager was actually VERY quick to respond and incredibly respectful of my time. The recruiter was quite the opposite… Never responded to my emails, and only heard from her when she had an update on next steps. Pretty terrible experience.
Thanks for all your videos! They helped me a ton with that onsite interview 😊

Two days ago, I had my final interview and the guys literally drove three hours to meet me. We spoke for over an hour, and I got a pretty good vibe from the operations manager, as well as the owner. Ticked every box you spoke of with the exception of seeing a lunch room as they are based in another city. At the end of the interview, the operations manager shook my hand and said that I would be hearing back from them.
I called my recruiter as she requested. She was very happy for me. The following day I wanted to do a quick check in. I called her number and I got an automated message that said extension not recognized. I felt gutted, so I sent an email and thankfully I didn’t get an automated response that her email was no longer active. I do have the hiring manager’s number and I’m going to wait a week before calling him. It’s very difficult being in this holding situation, and I am terrible at waiting.

What if they are super attentive in the beginning and then, later on, they started to tail off. Did a better candidate show up and now, you are no longer the lead candidate.
They also added another interviewer in the final round.

So yesterday's I had a job interview. I asked when should I hear back. He said i still doing interviews. The thing that got my attention was after that he said what is the best way to me reach email or a phone after the interview if I can pick a shift sometime like that. Also he put his hand out first for a handshake with me at the end of the interview. What do you think i will get a offer?

What I'd like your thoughts on:
What if the position isn't technically vacant. In other words, the individual who is currently in the role has already accepted an offer to transfer within the company, but at a later date. I feel like that this could cause the hiring manager and/or recruiter to delay the process, as it may not be construed as critical as it would be if the position was actually vacant.

Hey Ben, thanks for the video. I recently had a final-round interview with a partner in a consulting firm. The interview started with him playing hardball, as he kept contradicting my answers and giving signals that he was not convinced. However, by the end of the interview, he explained in detail about the role, the clients, challenges, the team, and day-to-day work. He also asked about any considerations I have and when I could be available to join. He concluded the interview by mentioning, "HR will reach out to you." Additionally, he responded to my thank-you email the same day I sent it. It's been a week now, and I haven't heard back from HR. What do you think? Thanks

I reached out to recruiters within my company to ask about a promotional position but they’re ignoring me and the one that did respond she put thumbs up on my message. There was an incident with HR and a former manager of mine I reported HR rep for being bias. I think there is a red flag on my name to not recruit me. All my internal applications are rejected.

No interviews , Human Resources is holding my complaint against them, I think bc they didn’t get rid of me just blocking my promotions.. they reject all my applications. The one recruiter that replied won’t continue a conversation with me about the job I’m interested in but I’m going to reach out to the hiring manager directly. Do you think I should reach out to the hiring manager ?

Yesterday (Monday), HR reached out to me again to tell me the last round interviewer ( an executive in a large MNC) recommended to move me forward, and HM then wanted me to have this one final convo with a cross functional player (who couldn’t make it last week) before they make a hiring decision.
