Saying "you're hired" or "we are making you an offer" are definite good signs.
I once got in an interview.
"I'm tired of interviewing. I could interview others but what is the point?"
    "You start next week".

Doesn't matter what signals you get in the interview.
You don't have the job until you start the job, until your feet are under the table.

The wealth of info you have shared with us is incredible, Ben. Hearing so many small (and not small!) details from you on the interview process allows us to be aware of what is happening in interviews while being focused on the specifics of the situation (names of people we're meeting, specifics about the meeting and company, etc).

What does it mean when the hiring manager doesn’t ask you for the salary expectation but instead tells you that he has a HR meeting to discuss the general compensation for the role and will be in touch with you. To put some context, this interview is for a management position for a large corporation, the external candidate was referred by an employee internally and by passed the hr interview with the recruiter. Also, the candidate sent them a thank you email after the interview and the hiring manager replied and said: we enjoyed speaking with you as well and I will be in touch. Basically, the only interview was with the final boss. Thanks Ben and would love your input on this. Keep up the great work.

Hey AK. It is pretty tough to know from just that. On one hand, it could be good that it’s being brought up but it could Andy be a way to avoid the conversation. I think the reply to the email is pretty positive though.

@@BenTalksTalent I guess the only thing to do is to wait. Nothing else to do. I don’t like it that the intention is never clear. The fact that you don’t get asked what is your salary expectation automatically means 99% that they’re not considering you seriously for the role? Also, forgot to mention that during that interview with the final boss, there was actually a manager with him. The role that is available is to replace that manager who’s getting promoted. So maybe, that’s why the final boss did not ask for salary expectations since the other manager was present.

I had an interview with two people.
One was enthusiast, loved me and couldn't stop ranting about how impressive my resume is.
The other gave nothing. Nothing seemed to impress him. He was very business like and just asked questions, and showed no emotion.
I didn't get the job, probably because it turned out misery guts rather than the happy guy, was the big boss.

    What if scenario:
    1. First round was for 30 mins, interviewer finishes in 21 mins. Makes notes throughout.
    2. Interviewer was engaged throughout.
    3. Tells candidate, we are still interviewing other candidates BUT DO NOT WORRY, you will hear from HR IN couple of days
    4. Calls ends with appreciating candidate taking time to give interview.
What do you think? Moved to next level or rejected in first level?

One time when "The Numbers Game" told me I was doomed: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. In the summer of 1993, I interviewed for a day camp job at a community center. The hiring manager was cool enough, but she told me that she had 33 candidates, and 6 spots. I knew that I was doomed. Unlike in 1998, when I worked the call center (undesirable job) for the bank, and it was known that "we were hiring like crazy."

Does a company usually offer the job to a candidate first then take down the job ad or visa versa?

yesterday i did a job interview and there were many signs that you mentioned. I wasnt interviewed by HR or the hiring manager but the Operations Manager directly. she was 10 mins late but we went the entire 30 minutes. It definitely felt conversational and she was smiling and saying words like "good" throughout. at the end when it was my turn to ask questions, she was very detailed with what i would be doing day to day (working with her). When I asked her based on my current experience where does she see I can contribute the most if hired, she explicitly mentioned my experience in logistics and admitted that it exceeds hers. That actually surprised me. she also did ask when was the earliest i can start (i said 1-2 weeks) and desired pay, the job posting listed $52K but i gave a range of $50k-60k so to not sell myself short. As I was leaving, she gave me a quick tour of the facility and asked me to send her my direct supervisors phone number on Indeed.
Do you think these are very good signs, even though she didnt say when she would get back to me? I did send a thank you/follow up email after including my supervisors number. I dont want to overthink this or get my hopes up either. Having said that, i hate to admit but this would be a big change for me since it would double my pay essentially and have benefits.
Thanks for your time if you read this.

@@necovia Hey Necovia. Unfortunately I did not get the job. actually, they basically ghosted me which i think was very rude. I actually decided to do something different. I enrolled in a DevOps (an aspect of software engineering) bootcamp. Its expensive unfortunately however the starting salaries are above $80,000! its a 6 month course and i have to cut back on hours at my current wage job but i think itll be worth it in the end. i start in 2 weeks :D.

@@maserati4000that’s why don’t worry about the signs or if the interview was friendly or smiling until you get the job offer that’s when you know the interview went well. I got a job offer before where all those sings weren’t there so it depends on the people. Not everyone will show those signs.

What if the HR says: “the team that fits your qualifications is this _______.” Is that a good thing to hear?

But if there is little turnover, if you don't get the job there when there is an opening, you have no hope in Hades in working there anytime soon.

Just had a great phone screen with a new employer due to layoffs and seemed to go well they mentioned company outings, told me all about the role and even used the word you alot. I also made the recruiter laugh and she was even impressed by my background. I was told the hiring manager would reach out to speak with me and the recruiter even forwarded my resume to manager on friday after the meeting. Are these good signs i might get the job?

    • @hannahjohnson4475
      @hannahjohnson4475 11 месяцев назад

Not always. A phone screen is just getting to know you and deciding if you are a top candidate for a second or final interview. I had phone screens that went well and the person I was talking to told me they would talk to their supervisor and let me know soon. I never got another interview like they say I would and they went with someone else. Sometimes they make you think you will get the job but won't.
