thank you for this video! when asking a funeral home if they are hiring, what do feel is the best way to first contact them? in person, email, or phone? thank you again
ClandestineGirl16X Thanks for watching!! What I have done is googled funeral home jobs in my area. That sent me to postings on indeed and that’s how I’ve gotten all of my interviews. You can also go in person or call which I have done to shadow an embalmer when I was first getting started. 💕
@@powderpocalypse no it’s personal preference or access. Eg rural spots have more family owned sci generally purchases the small funeral homes. One pro is that there’s usually hr and scholarships with sci where smaller firms usually don’t have
I applied for an office assistant at our local Roller Drummond funeral home and I’m hoping to get an interview. I will have to take a pay cut as they had the position at 15.00-18.50 per hr. These days that seems like poverty level, but is that standard for this type of position? Thank you
Any tips for guys who have shaved hair on the sides? I have curly hair and have been growing out a death hawk to try and get it to something that would pass in the industry
Hello! I have a job interview for a funeral attendant I am actually very tall im 59 im not very comfortable wearing heels. What would you recommend as an outfit? A pant suit? What colors all black? I do not have experience so I need to sell myself. Any advice?
lisa n Hi Lisa! I would say go with flats if you don’t feel comfortable wearing heels. You can wear a dress, pant suit, skirt with a nice blouse. It doesn’t have to be all black.. Every funeral home is different so I’ll say the most professional outfit you have would be best. Once you are hired and figure out their dress code then you can change it up. Good luck on your interview!
Hi Evie, you’re doing great! Its nice to see others sharing this kind of information because the Chicago industry is so small and family owned is difficult to get into if you’re first generation in the business. I feel I’ve heard that comment before about cosmetics somewhere i worked before 🤔. Keep up the good work! 😁
Jeanette V Thank you, Jeanette! I appreciate your comment. I’m first gen so I totally agree with you! I was so blindsided by a lot of things when looking for a new job and I would hate for someone to go into an interview and just give up. Persistence is key in this industry! Maybe you worked at the place I was referring to? 😉 lol
Great question! I've worked for funeral homes where the men had full beards and it was not an issue. As long as it looks well-kept then I personally don't see a problem.
Hey Evie, I have a quick question for you! Did you live and work at a funeral home while attending Worsham? If so how was it? I’m a mortuary student as well and will be doing this come next month so I am just curious.
Cétan Hamilton Sr. Hi Cétan! I didn’t live at a funeral home while attending Worsham. The housing/job is only available to students from out of state. Since I lived in Chicago I didn’t qualify.. Worsham is about 45 mins away from me.
I don’t mind the asking if I have children. Yes it’s not legal. But then on top of that you can’t ask if you plan on having children. I also include my nationality in the cover letter but don’t want to be a diversity hire.
I hope with disability they let folks submit their work on top of their interview. If I disclose I have depression, adhd and autism. They don’t know me, but I could be entirely capable to do the job.

Evie Vargas I’ve googled as well, and most of the stuff I find is through sci.

Evie Vargas i did work there, but the turnaround on funeral directors there is definitely alarming. 😅 I hope your doing well! Keep up the good work 😁
You mentioned looking professional at the interview. Should men also shave their beards? If so, would a goatee be acceptable?
