Thank you for this video! I saw your interview one the day before my interview at a local funeral home and I got the job. I start tomorrow (finally!) but of course, my nerves are all over the place but this has eased that up and I’m more than sure it’ll be great.

I know you had a video about dogs in a funeral home. I've been thinking about that ever since.
Dogs always know when someone is anxious or distressed, and a trained dog, will gently and quietly try to calm that person.
So after a lot of research and talking with local funeral directors, I believe that I have an idea of how this would work.
When people are coming in to plan a funeral, I believe seeing a dog calmly walking around will help calm them. It's always a way to start a conversation before getting to the tough task of planning a funeral. Unless there is a viewing or funeral, if he just walks around and greets people, it may be what those people needed in this tough time.
As far as viewings and funerals at the funeral home: ask the family if they would like the dog there. Since they met him during funeral planning, they can see how it comforts and calms people and may ask for him to be there for their family and guests.
As far as church funerals, if it's okay with the preacher and family, they may want the dog there but maybe on a leash with you.
I have a service dog and did his training myself. I say this because I've seen your dog in videos and feel he would be an awesome emotional support dog.
Wish I lived closer. I would come help you with training him. I've seen in my own life how my dogs have gotten me through tough times too.
I know you care about people a lot, and would like it if your dog helped calm and comfort people during the difficult time.
I'm sorry I'm rambling and this is so long. I think it's a great idea and I wanted to share my ideas of how this may be beneficial to many people. And it also may help the employees to deal with the stress and emotions that come with the job that you all do. I am very passionate about helping people and animals. I really hope some funeral homes, or any place of work, will Allow pets in the workplace.
I play the piano and organ at funerals and viewings and I think this could really make a difference.

Animal_ Protector I know of a local funeral home that is currently working with therapy dogs. They ask the family if they wish for them to be present at the wake, and if a family says yes, they contact this organization and the dogs show up with their trainer. I think it’s a great idea and I love seeing well trained dogs helping people!

Me too. Many people don't realize how smart dogs are. Not only does my service dog alert me to low sugar, before seizures, he knows when I'm down and having a down day....hating myself and dark thoughts enter my head. He won't leave my side at all. He brings me out of it every time. But since he has brought me so much happiness and unconditional love, I decided to pay it forward.
We now go to hospitals and nursing homes and hospice and children's hospitals and we visit the patients. Nothing lifts my spirits more then cheering others and give them a small break from hospital stay. I would love to get involved with him at funerals. I just don't know where to start or who to contact. You know how low I was a few weeks ago.......this gives me purpose and I feel like I matter and am making a difference in this world. (Oh that's my Jake in my profile picture. Isn't he the cutest ever. Lol)

Animal_ Protector I would call local funeral homes in the area and explain everything that you did here! The first step I would take would just be calling around and seeing if a firm would be interested and I can’t see why not! The funeral director doesn’t have to do any training or own the dog. They ask the family if they want them present and you bring them in!
Little Miss Funeral thanks so much. I think I'll get on that today. Similar to the way I got my name out to play for viewings,funerals, or both. Although that is my income. Sometimes I don't charge if the family is struggling. But I never take money to take Jake. I consider it a ministry and to let others be cheered by him too. And..........he was a rescue. A parvovirus puppy they wanted to put down.

I work for a local Hospital in my area. When a person passes away. Security has to open the doors. Omg! A Woman sat right up on the Gurnee. She was pronounce dead .. I ran my ass so fast out of the hospital

Thank you sooo much for this video, as I will be applying to a funeral home within 2 weeks, and I am so nervous/excited.
I'm not licensed in any way, but in early December 2021, I started working at one of the local funeral homes since that had been my dream for ages. I really enjoyed it but it was a part time job and I had a second part time job and I had no time for anything else but work. Sadly, I left the job at the funeral home because of the more flexible hours at the other job. Perhaps one day I'll get licensed as a funeral director and go all in.

Odd question, but an older funeral director and I were discussing last week a couple of different topics and one of them was how to go about giving a family ashes in the most dignified and special way possible. While some families don't expect this, I still feel that it would be a part of the job to want to be able to still make it special. What has worked for you personally?

I have been working in a funeral home for close to 6 months now. It's full of egotistical, gossipy people, and unnecessary drama. Not what you would think, at all.
I prefer the deceased, and their families.
At least I feel as though I can help the families somewhat through their terrible time.
Yes, I have been in the backhouse, where the deceased are taken in, and treated, etc. It doesn't smell good back there and I don't go there unless it's needed.
Kudos to all who do the actual hard work of REMOVALS (picking up the deceased at their homes, hospitals, morgues, care homes, etc.) = often dirty (bodily fluids) work, lifting their bodies by yourself, sometimes with another colleague when they are over 400-700+ pounds, carrying babies out of the hospital in a bag under your arm, manipulating rigor mortis limbs so they can fit inside a body bag, or be wrapped up to depart, removing a 3 week decomp body from her 3rd floor apt., driving a decomp body 4+ hours to its next destination while having to wear a respirator the whole way due to the stink, etc. Too many for instances to count.
*my husband does Removals, and I seriously do not know how he does it
Some stories are good.
Like a smile on the deceased face, or that their family was all there, that the deceased was loved so much, that they lived a long and full life.
Then there are the sad cases.
The case where girls turned on the fake sadness and waterworks for the camera ONLY (Ew)
No family around.
Alone.
Or really bad living conditions.
Or skeletal from sickness.
Or died with a terribly pained position, or expression.
The gunshot wounds.
The slip and falls.
The blood!
The young.
The tragic.
The murdered.
It's definitely a steady business.
Especially here in FL.

Growing up I always wanted to be a mourtition but never followed thru with it. Wish I had. Death never bothered me as a nurse aide & I took care of a lot of deceased patients in my 16yrs.

I'm 25, I've been battling several rare diseases with no cures for 9 years and am now palliative care. We don't any time frame because my case is so complex and rare but I have started trying to decide what I want for burial. I've always been terrified of Cremation and wanted to be in a mausoleum like some of my family members who have passed. However now after researching and watching a ton of videos I'm thinking that I may go ahead with cremation simply because it's cost efficient and I don't plan on having a funeral. Do you have any tips or advice to help me feel less scared of cremation?
Have you ever been tested for Lyme disease? I hope I don’t offend you. I knew someone in your exact situation and, by chance, she was tested for Lyme and was positive. They began aggresive treatment and today she lives a happy, healthy life. She does have some nerve damage due to the fact the Lyme became chronic by the time they figured it out. Her funeral was planned and she too was on palliative care. Good luck to you.

It is so sad that so many people with Lyme don't get diagnosed until permanent damage has occurred. I am so happy to hear your friend is well again! God bless her! jumboJetPilot Thank you! I have had a full working for those things. I do have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and have been treated. We've seen 100 different doctors (no exaggeration) since I first got sick 9 years ago. We now know that it is several illnesses all working against each other and there is no known cure. Thank you so much for your suggestions!

Starr Destiny Equality it was about a 3 1/2 year process for me. Typically, it should be about a 3 year process. There’s a lot more involved than people think but all in all, as long as you have the correct paperwork filled out when you need it and pass all of your tests it’s not that bad!
