In this video, I'm redesigning your logos in Adobe Illustrator CC 2023. Most of the time, I love minimalism, but that can sometimes take away from the character of the brand identity. So I'm going for a more handmade logo design effect. Not everything in graphic design has to be minimal - especially when it comes to designing logos! You can follow along with this if you like, there's a link so you can download the logo files!

Hi Will, can I suggest an idea for you? Would you fancy redesigning defunct British brands? I’m thinking of brands that were once synonymous with the British high street like Woolworths, Phones4u, Debenhams, maybe even Mr Whippy, BHS and Safeway. All were big brands/chains in their day. Maybe it’s time they got a revamp for the high street in 2023? It’d be cool to see your take of bringing back once loved brands.

P is not perfectly align in plantify logo
That’s all I could focus on. And it seemed a little too small as well, shorter than the “L” and thus not visually balanced.
Kern Kop Will on duty right now, make sure you're not running around with W-illegal kerning.
4:22 imho, I think the more rounded version in the sketch worked best, keeping the P thicknesses more balanced.

Nicely done Will 'Pater-kern' with the re-designs, great choice of font for 'Plantify', would've tried having the inner leaf shape on the left side run parallel to the stem of the 'P' (no pun intended!) more to keep the original shape of the letterform a little more, then somehow work in the shape. I agree with you that clichéd can work depending how it's executed. Watched the whole way through so 'Lemon'.

That sunrise logo redesign was fire
🍋 I really enjoy logo redesign videos, I learn a lot from them. It's funny because my studio is called Studio Yoake, which means sunrise in Japanese, but I didn't go for a playful logo like this sunrise logo, I went for a logotype with a very modern ligature serif font whose A makes kind of a circle with the horizontal bar. Otherwise, all very clean and streamlined.

Eleven! I really enjoyed the design process and the simplification honestly the way u speak is super clear! I was thinking you could redesign actual logos like Coca Cola in a different time period , you put time periods on a spinning wheel, spin it, and then put the logos on a separate wheel, spin it and whatever it landed on , you must do (just a thought yk ☺️)

The yoga one looked kinda lost. It reminded me more of a water park or sunscreen company logo, but it was cute (IMO of course).

Hey. Nice stuff. However I think the sketch you made for the P in the first logo looks a lot better than the one You constructed from the font. Couldn't you have traced the leaf and Integrated that in the font path?
Is the P in Plantify supposed to be smaller than the other type?
Will, I love watching your videos.
I have been a freelance graphic designer from the UK for almost a decade now so I know better than anyone how designs can be each to their own. But knowing your style, that P just does not fit with Plantify. I think it would be better if we had a plan of what the brand actually belonged to, is it physical or digital. That P just did not hit, it was too heavy and didn't fit with the rest of the font (I liked the font). The idea was strong but execution in my opinion wasn't. Do you know what I mean? It felt like a rush job but maybe that is the best way to create videos? I'm not a youtuber! Can you do a double redesign? Redesign your initial ideas? Presuming the client wanted to go on a new route? Much respect hut as you know, the client is always picky. Love you homie x also why couldn't you show us the ipad edit as opposed to mouse? X
Also, just finished the video, the last logo was meant to be for a yoga studio and not for a new orange juice brand. Again, not hating but just trying to give costuctihe criticism. In all honesty the client could potentially love the logo, but by chance they don't, maybe make a video redesigning YOUR OWN logos based on client feedback. These are both cool logos in their own right but I think you missed the mark with both of them. But, again, I love your work and your channel, a big fan and been following you for years!
Redesigning the redesign might be a good idea hahaha.

Lemon. I like the second logo as like a beachware brand but I think you missed the part about it being a yoga studio. it was a bit too playful for the non-existant brief.

Nice vid, quick question though.
I mean yeah rules are meant to be broken but the invisible guidelines for designers (as well as my university prof) taught me to not change two elements in a logo (not meant literally).
So my question would be: Why did you add the second leaf to the right of the logo? Did you want it to be there for the playfulness or any other reason?

Great question. To me the logotype seems to left side heavy - so adding a visual to right side balanced it out. Although, it isn't placed as accurately as I would've liked it to be. :)

Sunrise logo is more beautiful than plantify
Homely is an interesting difference in terms between the US and UK. In the UK its good and cozy, but here it's ugly and unattractive. Rough difference based on the audience. But that P is definitely US homely.
Original logo was better in frist one
Me not like your on, or before on both
I think there was a way to interpret the sunrise logo more respectfully of the original - sticking to the 70's typography theme and just executing it better. People shouldn't be so quick to give up their initial idea just because someone else re-does it with better execution, but disregards the original inspiration. The updated logo lacks any character and just looks like another generic immature typeface logo. Miss on this one, just my 5 cents. Peace!
Although I don't agree that my logo lacks character, I 100% agree with what you're saying!
So far I AM loving your videos, but you tripping with your legs is a huge distraction. If it is something you cannot help, then I do apologize for pointing it out. Maybe you addressed it in a previous video? Maybe you have ADHD? You did mention flipflopping between different things.
