Is A RED DOT Any Good On the Ruger PC Carbine???

  • As I progress with the Ruger PC Carbine, I have put a few hundred rounds down range. After using iron sights I wanted to start to experiment with options...more specifically, red dot optics. In this video I get a red dot mounted to my rifle to get it dialed in and give it a try it in a practical 100 round test. I definitely think this is the way to go!!

    I know I'm a month late to the party, but I took the route you mentioned at the end. I got myself a reasonably priced red dot from Primary Arms replaced the factory fore end with an MI M-Lock rail and shhot the heck out of the Ruger PCC. This is the first PCC I've owned and I can't believe the fun I've been missing. I zeroed mine for 50 yards and am hitting man sized steel 100% of the time.

    I have same PC...if you don't mount red dot on the hand guard you never have good precision..no matter what red dot use. Because of the take down have some play between the shasis and barel..I try lot..so believe me just put red dot on the top of hand guard and its start to shoot very precise

      Thanks for watching! I feel like many channels fail to show the learning process/curve when it comes to firearms. I think people are probably afraid to show their weakness. I found after running my first channel that I learned way faster by exposing my weaknesses...lots of great advice comes out of it...and I ignore the haters anyway. Thanks again for the support!

    I put a HOLOSUN AEMS circle/dot sight on my Chassis PC carbine (MAGPUL stock version). I mounted it on the BARREL Pic rail so it would always remain zeroed! The AEMS is, IMHO, about the ideal carbine "red dot" with good NV vision and great ruggedness.
    -> Also I added MAGPUL MBUS sights that are co-witnessed with the AEMS sight.
    ->To get my cheek weld height so I had instant eye-to-reticle alignment I added a MAGPUL 1/4" high snap-on cheek piece. Fast and inexpensive compared to a new lower red dot mount.

    I like my PC Carbine. Mine is the standard furniture with the Midwest adaptor for my light. I have a cheap Bushnell dot and was impressed how ell this gun shot indoors at 25 yards. I hope to try it at longer ranges outdoors in the spring, Thanks.

    Put it as far down the receiver you can and still see well. The further down, the more of what's around your sight picture you can see. Closer to your eye blocks your view around your optic.

    The laser boresighter only got me on the paper. I still had to use about 20 rnds at 40 yards to properly sight it in. After buying the carbine in 2018 I'd slightly get off zero each time I disassembled it but oddly it's "settled down" and maintains zero even after take downs.

    • @Thizlamic
      @Thizlamic Год назад +1

      If your zero is walking after take down check your barrel nut. I have mine set to the point where the lock up is a click away from too tight. No issues with losing zero.

      Check the barrel nut to be sure it's snug. Also after you re assemble the rifle, cycle the action three or four times. It will settle itself in and be accurate.

      My iron sights were pretty good overall but I'm definitely still leaning. The more I shoot the more I appreciate a good optic. I have a few red and green dot sights now and it's pretty sweet how tight you can get it but it greatly varies at different ranges. I find iron sights are better on average ones a wider range of distance. Both have pros and cons

    The acid test for me if using the PC carbine for a serious reason like a target which is shooting back is can I shoot to kill not at 100 yards but 10 or 20 yards. Is it useful in close spaces, like my house? How does it compare with a 9mm pistol at these distances? You should get some tactical training which allows you to have a better impact on the jerk who has broken into your home without pissing your pants! Adding an alarm system which floods the outside of your entire home, has a noise level above 100dcb! It should also inform the police of your situation! It makes sense to choose the Glock magazine adapter which is included with your PC ( buy a 30 rd magpul for instance) and works better than the standard Ruger, and buy a Glock 9mm and you have a system amenable to protecting you on just about any situation where your peace and quite has gone to heck! It is also useful to arm and train your wife to back you up!

  • @Thizlamic
    @Thizlamic Год назад +3

    Just an observation your gripping your PC like its a Garand. Lighten up on that grip your groups will tighten up at distance. Also consider a butt stock pouch and keep a mag or two in there to offset the weight of the light out front.
