The PC9 has been a reliable gun so far. I've had it for a few months now and no real problems. It has been consistently accurate with the iron sites and a red dot. I even purchased the violin "Peak Case" specifically for this rifle so I can transport and store safely (it fits perfectly). The only issue I ran into was when I switched out the Ruger magazine receiver for the Glock receiver. After loosening the bolts to release the trigger mechanism, the upper unit wouldn't budge. It seemed like it had been epoxied in place and was never going to budge. I tried for 30 minutes until I read a post (on the Ruger site) that said to pull back the charging handle and let it go a few times. Wow! it worked perfectly to release the upper unit. So, a big thanks to the person who recommended this.

I love this pcc! I put a Holosun 530c zero at 25 yards.. Plinking machine! Shoots super flat. I'm hoping Ruger comes out with a 10mm upgrade in the future.
a rimmed cartridge doesn't work well in a semi auto... however... make this in 9mm, 10 mm, 40 s+w, 45 acp, and some of those rimless wildcats. then you have a winner.
I have a Ruger PC Carbine in .40 S&W to go along with my Glock 22. I have not had any issues with it. Shoots great and is my go-to for a home defense 'long gun'. It was almost a miracle that I found one. I believe that Ruger no longer makes it in .40 S&W.
I had a Marlin camp carbine with a Bulter-Creek folding stock, but sold it last year after this review, and got a Ruger PC9, and switched it to Glock Mags, after I bought a Glock 19x after a Sootch review on it.

Good luck finding one. I ordered and paid for one almost a month ago from Scheels West Des Moines Iowa. The biggest problem is that Scheels doesn't have a clue when my rifle with arrive.
I like that the front and rear sight are attached to the barrel assembly. It keeps everything together and in alignment. The concept of the carbine and pistol going beyond the same cartridge on to the same magazine is wonderful. I hope that Ruger goes further to include other magazines that can be used in the carbine. Now, if the military can pick up on this concept! Like the way that NATO has done with their 5.7 x 28 NATO.
I saw a video on RUclips where a couple of guys were testing the 9mm out to 440 yards to see how good it was, and it was still punching holes through over 2 inches of solid wood at 440 yards. They were using iron sites, so the accuracy was off, since the front site post was covering up the target, but it still had lots of stopping power out at that range.
I'm right handed, but actually changed the charging handle to left side. Just seemed more natural to me. Can keep my "gun hand" on the gun while doing whatever with my left. I really like my PC9 and everyone that has shot it has as well. Good video.

I'm a Canadian . We have strict firearms laws. But I love my handguns my shotguns and my rifles. I go to the gun range and I eventually take up right hunting. I like your Channel. Keep up the great work. My American friends
First thing I did was switch out the Ruger mag well to the Glock mag well then bought seven Glock mags. Sond ting was to swotch the cocking handle to the left side because I am right handed. Just a point on switching the cocking lever from the right side (as it comes from the factory) to the left side. With respect to the maker of this video, you actually want the cocking handle on the left hand side if you are right-handed. That way your right (master) hand does not leave the firearm at all. If you're a righty, the functions of cocking the weapon, changing mags, etc., should all be done with your left hand, while your right (master) hand never leaves the weapon. In a tricky situation against bad guys, fractions of seconds count, so removing your master hand from the firearm to cock the weapon makes no sense whatsoever. You wouldn't do it with a pistol; don't do it with a carbine (especially one that allows for the cocking lever to be moved). Obviously, if you're a lefty, just leave the cocking lever on the right hand side.
Finally found one of these last week during the shamdemic, and shot this weekend. Impressed so far. Zero cycling problems and good accuracy at first zero. 3/4 inch group at 30 yards. Plan to long range test next week. Picked up two Magpul 17 round Glock mags and ordered Glock 26 10 round off Ebay. Some states have magazine capacity limitation of ten rounds for some hunting applications. This barrel length added almost 200 fps to the velocity over a pistol, shooting just under 1300 feet per second.
Great little carbine it is definitely not my primary defensive tool as I have better Firearms suited for that problem with 9mm projectiles with increased velocities out of 16 inch barrel they tend not to hold together if I were using this as a defensive tool with jacketed hollow point I would definitely recommend Hornady xtp in 124 grain or the 147 grain as these bullets will hold together under the increased velocities with the longer Barrel that's my two cents worth
bought mine about 6 months ago and i love it,,,, i can smack ar500 plates at 100 yrds 100% of the time,,,, its a fun rifle to shoot,,, i reload my 9mm with hardcast and no issues with leading,,,, its fun with teh red dot
I'm waiting on them to go on sale again at Academy, they are $529.00 now. Week before last they had them on sale for $429.99 and I missed that sale. I had heard during Black Friday they had them for $399.99. I was able to hold a display model and check it out and I really like the PC9 carbine. To satisfy my urge to buy, I went ahead and bought the Ruger EC9s that was on sale this week for $229.99 at Academy. Hopefully they will be back on sale in Jan/Feb and I'll have the Ruger PC9 Carbine then.

Good camp and truck gun good choice for home defense with a flashlight and red dot !!! I put mine in a Wilson tennis racket bag when traveling and staying in motels !!! Cheap ammo and fun to shoot !!! Don’t no to many bad guys that can hide behind a paper plate at 100 yards!!! Or can take a 9mm head shot !!!

Good review! I bought one yesterday for $410 plus tax. Did a free 5 rd test fire and had to buy. It's fun to shoot and the sale price was too good to pass up.
When you reassemble the rifle, and rotate barrel assy there is a rotating lock ring on the top side to tighten the barrel into a secure position. Great little rifle, with plus P ammo and light grain bullets it will reach out to 150 yrds no problem.
Reminds me of the Henry survival 22 but nicer. GREAT idea and love Ruger I have a 10/22 Ruger now your showing me this one got a have this on 9mm. Just think if they come in a 45acp now that would be sick 🇺🇸
I bought a Ruger SR9c as my EDC... Then THIS came along and I found one for $355 (I know... It was before everything went scooters a while back) and some of my buddies said "a 9mm Carbine??.... Dude, WHY???" .... Then we went to the range with extended mags... Guess what?... Every single friend who shot it was in gun-love by the end. Ruger as far as I'm concerned hit it out of the park... again!!
What is really cool, is the fact that Magpul is *FINALY* making a backpacker stock for this gun!!! I’m hoping to see a review of it when it finally comes out!
Bought it. Got it. Shoots as advertised. Not changing a thing. Spits out whatever its fed. Use the Ruger mags. Keep it as a back pack shtf tool. But I do shoot it alot. No issues. No problems.
Fantastic rifle for the wife, recoil and sound less intimidating at the range for her, I love it because follow up shot are soooo fast, and ammo is cheaper👍🇺🇸👍
Great Video! I got mine on Black Friday and I love it! I am currently putting together a package of parts to make my PCC into a nice Home Defense little rifle. The Catalyst Arms M-LOK rail adaptor does not Extend to the sides like the Midwest it actually add to length but still has the 3, 6, 9 slots for attaching your accessories. I have been reading that the 124-135gr +P loads can do a nice job for Personal Defense. I am hoping that Magpul will come out with a Stock or one of the other companies will come out with a Pistol Grip with a Folding or telescopic stock. I have a Ruger American 45 ACP and I am hoping they will come out with a 45 ACP PCC or just come out with the 40SW PCC next which is one of my favorite carry calibers and I have many Glock 40SW pistols that I carry daily and would make a GREAT Truck Package.
On the Christmas list video, you showed the Security 9. I mentioned the PC 9 Carbine, and here it is! I plan to get one within the next year. I took a look at one at Brownell's in Iowa. I want one!
IMO and for my tastes, Ruger products have the best balance of fun, innovation, quality, and cost. Full disclosure, I do own Ruger stock and several Rugers, but I saw the price was good at the time, plus I am a fan. It seemed the right thing to do at the time.
I wish Ruger would let us know if .40 .45 and 10MM conversions were coming. Us poor bastages in WA State have 7 months left to buy semi auto rifles (yes, ALL of them have been reclassified as "assault rifles") and then this whacky, insane law kicks in. No answer means (for me) building pistol caliber AR15s instead, because 9MM makes me yawn. Beware people, your state is next, join GOA and contribute!
@@joedefazio1464 The ruger PC4 is not a conversion. It's the older version PC carbine Ruger made several years ago that uses the older P series magazines.
I was saying that pistol caliber carbines are hot now and Ruger should re-introduce the PC carbine. Instead they came out with this new version of the PC carbine. WAY better then what I had in mind. The magazine compatibility and ease of changing that out is great. Being take down is a major plus for back packers. It is a touch heavy for a pistol caliber carbine, but not too heavy. Good sights, easy to attach a scope. This is just a big list of great ideas.
I have been checking this one out. Your approval just convinced me to make the Ruger PC9 my next gun purchase. Thanks sootch and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Lord, please don't let the gun haters find out about this beauty. Because if they do they'll try to tag it as a so called "assault weapon" and try to ban it. Ruger was smart when they made it look like a rifle and not use an AR15 style platform. A great Carbine and a great review by the Sootch man.

I would add that you, undoubtedly, intended to say that MARLIN rather than Ruger made some 9mm rifles back in the 90s, "....but it didn't catch on."

I love my Ruger pc9. Shoots reliably and smooth. Got the Midwest industries aftermarket combat rail on it and it's a thing of beauty

Ruger only produced about 15,000 of the original Police Carbines in 40 cal.

I realize they went on the market in 1985 or so, (I am old) I wish Ruger would produce an adapter for P series Ruger mags. I gotta ton of them....

I saw that video , 9mm bullet going through 2x4 at 440 yards not to accurate at that distance,, but shows what a 9mm is capable of

I know Ruger hates Smith, but I wish they would include one for the M&P......may aftermarket will step up

Just shoot 90gr. Underwood Extreme Defender snd you won't have to worry about a bullet 'staying together'.

Mine got tighter groups as I ran more ammo through it. Running 124gr +P+ handloads, 4x scope, it produced 2.6" average groups at 100m, bench rested!
Ruger got it right with this. This is what I dreamed the Marlin Camp Carbine could be, and more.
This and a Ruger American compact 9 mm with Ruger 17 round magazines is my WTSHTF set up.

I prefer to carry my carbine in a non gun bag that screams gun to scumbag liberals and thieves, usually combined into a Biden/Harris voter.

I’d like the PC carbine with wood stock.
I bought a Ruger SR9c as my EDC... Then THIS came along and I found one for $355 (I know... It was before everything went scooters a while back) and some of my buddies said "a 9mm Carbine??.... Dude, WHY???" .... Then we went to the range with extended mags... Guess what?... Every single friend who shot it was in gun-love by the end. Ruger as far as I'm concerned hit it out of the park... again!!
I like but I like even more that Ruger released a .40s&w PC carbine ...... hopefully you will be able to review the PC carbine in .40s&w soon ..
What is really cool, is the fact that Magpul is *FINALY* making a backpacker stock for this gun!!!

Great Video! I got mine on Black Friday and I love it! I am currently putting together a package of parts to make my PCC into a nice Home Defense little rifle.
The Catalyst Arms M-LOK rail adaptor does not Extend to the sides like the Midwest it actually add to length but still has the 3, 6, 9 slots for attaching your accessories.
I have been reading that the 124-135gr +P loads can do a nice job for Personal Defense.
I am hoping that Magpul will come out with a Stock or one of the other companies will come out with a Pistol Grip with a Folding or telescopic stock.
I have a Ruger American 45 ACP and I am hoping they will come out with a 45 ACP PCC or just come out with the 40SW PCC next which is one of my favorite carry calibers and I have many Glock 40SW pistols that I carry daily and would make a GREAT Truck Package.
My home defense package is stock. I'm not fighting WW3. Bad guys don't know the difference.
On the Christmas list video, you showed the Security 9. I mentioned the PC 9 Carbine, and here it is! I plan to get one within the next year. I took a look at one at Brownell's in Iowa. I want one!

I agree 100% every review people really love it. But it's only downside is it runs through your ammo stock very fast.
IMO and for my tastes, Ruger products have the best balance of fun, innovation, quality, and cost. Full disclosure, I do own Ruger stock and several Rugers, but I saw the price was good at the time, plus I am a fan. It seemed the right thing to do at the time.
I wish Ruger would let us know if .40 .45 and 10MM conversions were coming. Us poor bastages in WA State have 7 months left to buy semi auto rifles (yes, ALL of them have been reclassified as "assault rifles") and then this whacky, insane law kicks in. No answer means (for me) building pistol caliber AR15s instead, because 9MM makes me yawn. Beware people, your state is next, join GOA and contribute!
Look up Ruger pc4 it's the 40 cal version

@@joedefazio1464 The ruger PC4 is not a conversion. It's the older version PC carbine Ruger made several years ago that uses the older P series magazines.

I was saying that pistol caliber carbines are hot now and Ruger should re-introduce the PC carbine. Instead they came out with this new version of the PC carbine. WAY better then what I had in mind. The magazine compatibility and ease of changing that out is great. Being take down is a major plus for back packers. It is a touch heavy for a pistol caliber carbine, but not too heavy. Good sights, easy to attach a scope. This is just a big list of great ideas.

Lord, please don't let the gun haters find out about this beauty. Because if they do they'll try to tag it as a so called "assault weapon" and try to ban it. Ruger was smart when they made it look like a rifle and not use an AR15 style platform. A great Carbine and a great review by the Sootch man.
Well, Ruger screwed the pooch on the AR platform for this rifle.
