If your stressed don't know what I'm going to be like when I do mine. Never layed pavers and I've got porcelain. Question, can you use flowpoint on slightly riven or will it collect on top within the riven pattern? Cracking job by the way 👍
Id swerve flowpoint buddy, dont rate it!! It sets so quick and if it stains you aint getting it off, sandstone just just point it traditionally, we do 3-1 sharp sand so its a grey gritty finish but looks goood with natural stone, building sand for me leaves to much of a orange colour
Hi Scott, I saw you was using a flex wet cut saw on one of your previous vlogs, would like to know how good it performed on cutting porcelain without the tiles fracturing on the fine detail cuts.
I found it useful once but it’s not a saw you can rely on for certain cuts if you have to do a full cut then the last section really does have a good chance of cracking unlike my tablesaw what are use all the time the flex is rusting I imagine 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping nice one mate, was considering buying one to do the inspection chamber cutting as I’ve been finding it quite difficult to cut porcelain without them cracking on certain cuts. What disc are you using on your fine detail cuts.

@@frankieob100 BULLSHIT!... ..I know your logic, you think it is a barrier from the ground, where salts could theoretically will leach up into the surface stone and mortar (excuse me, that's 'moih-tuh') to cause efflorescence. Which could be possible if that rue-paste (whatever you call it) was a vapor barrier. Which It Is Not.. And even if it was, it would keep the surface wet long after rain and INCREASE the chances of efflorescence.
@@tidybrickslandscaping nice and tidy like your work watched the steep drive epic, can i ask when you level a string accross a house do you use a laser a long level held against the string or one of those tiny string levels

@@tidybrickslandscaping great news. Started my drive a few weeks ago. 150mm type 1 with 150mm C35 10mm aggregate concrete with A142 6mm mesh. Put foam joints and 12mm rear sleeved between the slabs. Give it a month before we go porcelain. Might put plastic exoNsuon joints in. What do uou think?
Hi ya Scott, just a quicky. Do you use your 2nd grabo much. I purchased 2 and not had the other one ut the box yet. I found my helper can lift the edge of the 900x600 and use a grabo on the side you cant get your fingers in. I Still watch all your stuff.😀👍
Yes good point I realised that when I bought two as well but sod it still use it why not hey treat him so he doesn’t get primer on his fingers too 👍🏴
any thoughts on mapei grout? Been doing small mixes and washing off as we go along, takes time but seems ok? Any methods to getting it done quickly and well?
About to have patio laid, lad says he prefers to lay on sharp sand, no cement as he says cement can bring out the salts? Using Marshall’s 50 mm coloured concrete slabs, is he correct?
He is actually it’s not a normal patio tile which is only 20mm those 50mm there the same as pavers on a driveway. I’d prefer to use stone dust though as it compacts much better as sand can find voids after rain a sink. And you want 10mm joints grouted for sure otherwise you’ll get weeds coming through if they are just butted up 👍🏴
Looks a really nice job scott, we all have these days dont we. What would you recommend on indian sandstone? I usually just use brush in stuff but its permeable isnt. Just wondered what your thoughts are😂🤞🏻
Again thanks for your effort of loading this stuff onto the net - much appreciated. You need to set up a subscribestar account so that people can throw some beer money your way. I owe you at least a gallon! What's the standard thickness of porcelain tiles in the UK? Where I live they are 2cm and they lay them on what is called 'split' which is essentially gravel generated out of a stone crusher. I'm remodelling our garden and swapping out the split bed for a concrete one following your vids...'? I can't find anyone that will ship me the leveling clips you use from Tiler's Tools. They don't to international shipping so I might have to go without them. In the local DIY store (Bauhaus) they do a version which only go up to 15mm so they won't work with 2cm tiles You might do a video on changing out a single tile from a concrete base - you did a couple where you weren't happy with the result but didn't show how you removed the tile and gave yourself enough room to stick down down the new tile. Last question: You use a "slurry" between tile and concrete. Can't find the equivalent here. I would think I could use outdoor tiling cement, what do you think?
20mm exterior tiles over here too so that’s the same at least and shame about those clips I use I have heard before they won’t ship abroad from subscribers. That slurry you mention sounds like it’s a similar idea. As long as you can make it into it a paste then it should work 👍🏴
Hey dude, could I ask what mix you use for laying ? Mine seem to be a little more dry as if it’s wet I get a water film on top and the tile just slides around a lot 🤟🏻
Looking good sir , I'm not a fan of the Marshall's grout , leaves a gritty finish , plus its murder to work with , I only use the fuga pave now , better all round i reckon. Looks like a tough day mate , your be happy dancing again soon 👍
Cheers Nathan yeah that grout drives me insane but it does go really hard that’s the main thing it’s just all the crap that goes with it.. hopefully I’m happier on the next section of patio then I’ll do a happy dance 👍🏴
How many lean mixes do u reckon you do a day? And over a year and over your slab laying career must be an obscene number. Great video. I put in some acco drains recently was a pain to get levels correct as existing driveway pavers had moved over time. You’ve made it look a fair bit easier when going from scratch, not sure if that’s your years of experience, working to a perfectly straight surface or the combination of the 2 😂
Great video as always! Can I ask do you always do your aco after slabs ? Iv always done drainage first makes me think iv been doing wrong all my life lol Keep the videos coming 💪🏽
As a tiler which is now a tough game with massive tiles and bad floors im glad I dont do outdoor work ,looks brutal hard , good job tho ,interesting video too ,how is your body? I see you stooping over and not bending your knees , my back and wrists ache all the time
Yep my body is in bits worse and worse every day I did buy myself a massage chair a couple years ago it doesn’t cure anything but it definitely makes it feel better thanks for watching 👍🏴
I’m not sure how to answer the Vietnam part and as for that easy joint not sure is that the resin-based type if so it will go green with algae 👍🏴 Thanks for watching again
Yes I know the stuff so easy to work with but it’s still soft weeks later you could still push a screwdriver through it and the algae sticks to it terribly 👍🏴
Feel your pain their fella. I prefer trad pointing personally but I used flowpoint on last job for the first time as slate paving and granite setts was wrong colour and too big an area for trad without getting into dyes. What a stress. Paving has to be damp but no water in the joints and once down you gotta keep it damp otherwise it sets to the slab and ain't ever coming off. Good product but plenty of pitfalls and messy to work with I thought. Lots of residue runoff. Much prefer vdw850 to work with. Cleaner product to use. Use lots of water to get it to flow, no problems with efforvesance and once finished no residue to clean of. Need to half batch it on 5mm joints as it goes off fast and won't flow. Only downside for me is the price. 4 times price of flowpoint....eek!!! Only use products when trad is not viable.
Thanks for the reply Ed and yes you’re quite right in every think you say never tried that product you’re on about VDW 850 I’ll have a little Google a bit later jointing years ago was stressfree now it drives me insane 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping yeah there's big pressure these days to use products to speed the job up. Personally I love pointing trad. One of my fave tasks. All about the finish. And gives me some time out on the job. It's nearly all labour and fills so many days a year it's easy money and easy times. What's the rush. Make your money on the labour and save on the product. However vdw850when you need it. Theres a paving expert vid on you tube. You only need use it once to get the hang of it. Lot of guys swear by it and it lasts. Plus points...easy to use, clean, lasts forever. Downsides...price esp for large areas, goes off fast esp in hot weather, leaves tacky residue on paving which takes a bit of time to weather off. Need 2 people really. One to spread and one to hose. Have to work clean. Dont walk on it with muddy boots as dirt will stick to the residue until it's fully cured. Hope that helps.

It is all a good product to use just really tough to work with drives me insane 👍🏴
@@MuRF2010INESSEX I use trad 3:1 mostly but we do 2 sharp 1 building 1cement for a smoother finish. Strikes off easier as that bit less gritty.
Ps mate. We use yellow building sand for a better colour finish as all red sand where I am.
@@anthonysmith149 hey Antony and yes porcelain tiles are hard to cut that as long as you’ve got a good blade you’ve got half a chance and he is the guy are use his name is Phil he is his website check it out 👍🏴

@@tidybrickslandscaping cheers mate, keep up the good work and thanks for the reply.👌👍
You cracking me up, "your primer is a barrier for efforescence"😅 You just make it up as you go. When are you going to show us the moon?
That’s what I’ve been told Marshalls it’s another barrier 👍🏴 i’ve got a telescope I was looking at Jupiter the other night
@@tidybrickslandscaping That's nonsense. It ain't no damn "barrier". What a crock.. Next time you see, Marshal, kick him in the balls!
@@bonanzatime he is correct it is a barrier against efforescence.
Nothing being made up.
@@bonanzatime 😂😂😂💩🤭
nice van
Thanks Joshua glad you like my van mate 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping nice and tidy like your work watched the steep drive epic, can i ask when you level a string accross a house do you use a laser a long level held against the string or one of those tiny string levels
The locked keys...There's an Air wedge pump that expands when used on the driver door. $12 dollars at any hardware store. Keys would be retrieved in a minute.
Sounds like a great idea 👍🏴
Sorry for the stress.of the job mate. Sometime.sthings don't go as well. How's the porcelain driveway holding out? Any movement of cracking?
Solid as a rock apparently it’s so thick it’s never going to move 👍🏴 hope things are well with you
@@tidybrickslandscaping great news.
Yes good point I realised that when I bought two as well but sod it still use it why not hey treat him so he doesn’t get primer on his fingers too 👍🏴
Think you need some cbd or bit thc and then start again brother 😉 it makes u chill out n can still crack on.
And it looks mint this one 👌
Already on the case mate 👍🏴
any thoughts on mapei grout? Been doing small mixes and washing off as we go along, takes time but seems ok? Any methods to getting it done quickly and well?
I’ve only ever use that mapie once before took me four days to grout 150 m great product but very slow to use that was my only issue 👍🏴
Time for a pint.....Happy Days
Several pints for me please 👍🏴
Chin up Mukka. Still the best around
Thanks Jon mate much appreciated chin up chest out 👍🏴
Looking good so far but why is there such a deep bed under the tiles ?
I change the levels right at the last minute and couldn’t wait for Travis Perkins to come back 🙄👍🏴
About to have patio laid, lad says he prefers to lay on sharp sand, no cement as he says cement can bring out the salts? Using Marshall’s 50 mm coloured concrete slabs, is he correct?
He is actually it’s not a normal patio tile which is only 20mm those 50mm there the same as pavers on a driveway.
I’d prefer to use stone dust though as it compacts much better as sand can find voids after rain a sink.
And you want 10mm joints grouted for sure otherwise you’ll get weeds coming through if they are just butted up 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping Thanks Scott, really appreciate your comments.
Looks a really nice job scott, we all have these days dont we.
What would you recommend on indian sandstone?
I usually just use brush in stuff but its permeable isnt.
Just wondered what your thoughts are😂🤞🏻
I’d use the slurry type grout but you need to know how too do it first or it’s nothing but trouble 👍🏴
In the local DIY store (Bauhaus) they do a version which only go up to 15mm so they won't work with 2cm tiles
You might do a video on changing out a single tile from a concrete base - you did a couple where you weren't happy with the result but didn't show how you removed the tile and gave yourself enough room to stick down down the new tile.
As long as you can make it into it a paste then it should work
👍🏴
ruclips.net/video/pEZjmfIKu5k/видео.html 1.16.00 had to remove some tiles here also
Hey dude, could I ask what mix you use for laying ?
Mine seem to be a little more dry as if it’s wet I get a water film on top and the tile just slides around a lot 🤟🏻
4/1 sharp sand mix with a little squirt of fairy liquid that’ll stop water rising 👍🤜
Thanks
Cheers buddy I’ll,put that towards the key bill 🧾👍🏴
Normal hose pipe connectors fit on the power wash I broke mine too 😂
Stupid bloody pressure washer why not have the hose on the side so I can’t snap if it falls over when you tug it 🤔👍🏴
I left mine in a garage in winter and it froze, then cracked.
Some cutting that pal, credit were its due
Thanks Gaz glad you enjoyed the video mate much appreciated 👍🏴
You’ve made it look a fair bit easier when going from scratch, not sure if that’s your years of experience, working to a perfectly straight surface or the combination of the 2 😂
I think it might be a combination of the two actually ? I must’ve use quite a lot of wheelbarrows full of mixes already yeh you’re right 👍🏴
Great video as always! Can I ask do you always do your aco after slabs ? Iv always done drainage first makes me think iv been doing wrong all my life lol Keep the videos coming 💪🏽
I only did the slabbing first as my labourer had nothing else to do so I did it at the end when he wanted time off 👍🏴
Love it Scott! Shit happens buddy🤙🏼
Very good point shit happens just put up with it and get on with it I’ve still got my health who am I to complain 👍🏴
Been told flow point is good to grout but need to know what your doing with it
I think I might give that flow points a try next time I know my mate Mattie from Brockstone landscapes uses it a lot 👍🏴
Please can I have a link to them patio slabs, I can’t find them anywhere?
Here we go Timmy hope this helps I had the silver grey www.marshalls.co.uk/gardens-and-driveways/product/towngate-sawn-sandstone-paving
Sorry to ask have you used a pointing grout gun ? I just did 75m2 of grout no hassles…
Not used to one of those for a long time definitely the slowest option but much better control do in smaller amounts with that 👍🏴
You are just like me, Grumpy old bastard !!! Looks good though.. Happy days
I seem to be getting grumpier every year things aren’t looking good 👍🏴
Nice
Txs Pav’s 👍🏴
Looking great Scott wen you did ur mix reminded me of coming back from Vietnam 🇻🇳 🤣 wat do you think of the easy joint compound?
I’m not sure how to answer the Vietnam part and as for that easy joint not sure is that the resin-based type if so it will go green with algae 👍🏴 Thanks for watching again
@@tidybrickslandscaping easy joint compound the one that's wetter the better just soak it and brush it in
Yes I know the stuff so easy to work with but it’s still soft weeks later you could still push a screwdriver through it and the algae sticks to it terribly 👍🏴
🥺🥺🥺 I just used it lol
@@philstation335 just be careful when you’re pressure washing in don’t go to close. Hopefully you forced it in not just brushed. 🤔
Is this slabs or tiles your using. What are they 600×600 what???
They were Indian sandstone smooth Tiles yes 600’s 👍🏴
Where can I get stone dust from? its just what I need
Travis Perkins sell that type of stuff or Selco lots of builders merchants it’s basically 5 mm to dust 👍🏴
Testing testing testicle 😂👍🏻Ahhh boy this will look amazing for the next 40 years! Love it! next video should hopefully have a happy dance in or two😂 an just quick one I’m still learning, but does that gully need a pee trap to be connected to foul drains? Or not required in this instance? Thanks in advance tidybricks can’t wait for the next episode!🤩👍🏻
I think you’ve got a good point on the gully yeh maybe. Hate drainage 👍🏴
you still using ur sky tv or electricians knee pads getting ur moneys worth their eh bud lol great job as usual on the tiles looking great
