I’m from Virginia USA. I love watching you and Brockstone videos. I’m a master electrician and plumber. I do a lot of carpentry and masonry work. I just want to say thank y’all for the videos I layer a porcelain patio with a 3-1 mix and made a slurry mix with a concrete bonding agent mixed with straight Portland. Mainly because they don’t sell that I’ve ever seen paver primer. It worked very well. I would like to post a picture on your comments to see what you think about it. Thank you again sir
Thank you Brett glad you enjoy our channels and have used a type of primer it’s the way to go and makes complete sense to do. You could always WhatsApp me and send some pics over. Google me 👍🏴
Hi TB! At 29:50 "Can't tuck one there as it's dry from yesterday". I'm using the Vite system on the project I'm doing at the moment and what I've started doing is leaving a 20+ mm slot under the tile on the exposed sides empty if that makes sense. I lay the concrete bed and tile as you do and then clean out the slot on the two exposed edges with the trowel. Then when I put an adjacent tile in I push the new concrete under the already laid tiles in the gap I've left. That means that I can always put in the white clips even under tiles I laid a day or two ago.The concrete is also interlocked which might help but not sure.
Love this work an dit wasnt the first time, love it. Apart from the Music as i dont like Prince. The hole job looks really good and the Marble step made the stone look even better, amazing.
nice work scott.....good to see you back on the float....i said months back it was easier on your wrists. its all i use now but to be fair ive scaled back the paving aspect. price for price we are earning three times as much labour wise now fitting bespoke gates and fences......better on my back too :) ps/ have a great holiday too pal. you deserve it.
Hi there! Proud of your videos...thank you so much for being our teacher. My daughter wants me to start on her small patio area with porcelain tiles however she has a step erecting that needs building up. Do I do the steps first or the garden patio first then the steps? Any videos on this Thank you again xxx
I’d say build the patio first and build as close as you can to the step then go from there as for design . Most likely less cutting as you can build to the size patio you’ve done up to tiles you stopped of at 👍🏴
Just doing my first porcellian patio 80m2,bricklayer by trade,im.from cardiff too and taking note of all your great tips🙏👍🏴❤️ that measure looks a great investment, does that come with a free app in price or is there a subscription too
It’s a free app and a great investment use my tidybricks promo code from my moasure vids if you get one 👍🏴 WhatsApp me if you want a site visit for content 👍
Hi Scott why didn’t you just plum the acos into the existing storm drainage (not the same as foul drainage) unless it was a combined system but even then it would be fine. Top work as always bud 👏🏼
Hi Mr tidy bricks I’m laying porcelain slabs on to a concrete base so can I use a thinner bed of muck and could I use a PVA slurry primer instead of the expensive stuff like we used to thanks love your vids am now addicted 😆😆
Loved the video. Laying 36sqm of porcelain this week. With the dead man slab, how long do you have before the mortar underneath starts to set? Do you use any plasticiser in your mix?
Always a squirt of fairy liquid and it’ll be easy to lift up the following day still without the primer but move it as you need then prime and stick 👍🏴
lol see you still have the sky mans knee pads amazing what u keep when it cost u nothing lol i use hot water lagging jackets a neighbour was trowing out cost me nothing and if ur tired u can have a quick nap on them happy daysssss as u would say
You could if you wanted it would still stick but not the type sand particles you want as building sand is more Circular and better used by bricklayers sharp sand is more angular and locks better so they say who ever they are ?? 👍🏴
Great job and very helpful. Iv seen a lot of your vids and subscribed, really good content. Question, Is it ok to lay new porcelain tiles over existing patio slabs that is uneven and has cracked joints ? Ideally don’t want to re-do everything.
Great job. How deep is your mortar bed? I may need to make mind about 50-60 mm in some places but I'm afraid that's too deep. Would still fall below the damp course but would that deep be okay?
18:15 wet mix, what ratio did you use ?.. 5:1 or 3:1.Newbe here love watching your vids but without what ration to use i am totally lost... please say what ratio you're using.
@@tidybrickslandscaping Thanks for the reply, as i said i am a newbe, can you do a vid to say what ratio you need to have for various jobs, i'm sure it will go viral.
Unrelated question… but what type of block work would be easiest to prime for outdoor porcelain tiling? and what primer would you recommend? BAL and primer slurry?
Regular concrete blocks are fine and I normally use Marshalls primer as it doesn’t dry out to quick but has to be a cement primer. Can use sbr and cement mix also but that drys very quick 👍🏴

Cracking work as usual! Can I ask a quick question please, with your wet mix, what ratio do you do? And how many times in one mixer load? Many thanks
The cement mix was a ratio of 4/1 sharp sand mix and no idea how many mix’s sorry 👍🏴
Another fine looking job. Well done! Liked, subscribed and commented.

That’s a good idea I could do that on my next video 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping amazing, something I feel I can improve on, would be good to grab some tips from how you do it!
Hi Scott why didn’t you just plum the acos into the existing storm drainage (not the same as foul drainage) unless it was a combined system but even then it would be fine. Top work as always bud 👏🏼
Didn’t find it so I put my blinkers on and dig the hole as I had the digger still 👍🏴
Very good job! What do you use to prime the tiles? Thank yoy
I used a Marshalls primer for that one and sometimes ultra scape almost others 👍🏴.
Top job again . Or top music 🎶 carnt decide
Glad you like my music taste Pete 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping nearly got up and danced to you putting slabs down . I've danced to something's but never that .but nearly did
Loved the brick laying segment. Were you a bricky at one point or have you just learned to lay bricks over the years? The new wall looks fantastic
I’ve been a brickie since I was 16 YTS era 36 at it but it bores me to the bone 👍🏴
Hi Mr tidy bricks I’m laying porcelain slabs on to a concrete base so can I use a thinner bed of muck and could I use a PVA slurry primer instead of the expensive stuff like we used to thanks love your vids am now addicted 😆😆
Sbr would be better than pva just prime the concrete first and the back of the tile. Thinner bed is fine with concrete 👍🏴
Alright, any chance you could recommend a primer, sealant and white grouting for a slate patio installation, cheers👍
How are you is Marshalls prime and regarding there are many types to say but all good 👍🏴

Still use in the sky man is Matt very useful glad he left it lol 👍🏴
Stunning, excellent attention to detail now the owner has to sort out the rest of the garden which looks kinda tired….
We agree! 👍🏴
What sort of sand are you using, on the current job they are using shape screed which is different from how i lay with mixed building sand?
Building sand isn’t the right sand you need sharp sand it’s a totally different grain 👍🏴
Hi Mate love the vids, quick question for you, what's you're thoughts with laying porcelain slabs with building sand ?
You could if you wanted it would still stick but not the type sand particles you want as building sand is more Circular and better used by bricklayers sharp sand is more angular and locks better so they say who ever they are ?? 👍🏴
Great job and very helpful. Iv seen a lot of your vids and subscribed, really good content.
Question, Is it ok to lay new porcelain tiles over existing patio slabs that is uneven and has cracked joints ? Ideally don’t want to re-do everything.
It depends if you have hard-core underneath the existing patio 👍🏴
Hi Scott
Great video, can I ask what cement mix you use?
Thanks
4 sharp sand 1 cement wet mix 👍🏴
Great job. How deep is your mortar bed? I may need to make mind about 50-60 mm in some places but I'm afraid that's too deep. Would still fall below the damp course but would that deep be okay?
The amount of cement doesn’t really matter it’s just not cost-effective 👍🏴
hi Scott great video what's the mix you are using to bed them on ?
4 sharp sand 1 cement wet mix 👍😆
Can those slabs be placed over brick pavers ? Or is it better to remove it all then install. Here in florida the dirt is quite fine and moist
In that case regarding the earth/dirt then it would be better to have stone as a base if uncertain 👍🏴
Love your work can I ask is it possible to paint or stain a patio
Yes you can but not until six months after it has been laid that you can seal the patio 👍🏴
Hi Scott where did you get the ocean grey edging stones from ??
Ocean marble step kit from Marshall’s edging are called black round tops same place 👍🏴
Just about to start this myself what depths do you use for the MOT and then the cement mix ?
10mm type1 mot and between 30/40mm cement 4 sharp sand 1 cement 👍🏴
18:15 wet mix, what ratio did you use ?.. 5:1 or 3:1.Newbe here love watching your vids but without what ration to use i am totally lost... please say what ratio you're using.

I’ve just been in contact with Moasure for them coming out on my next video and explaining exactly how to use it 👍🍻
You recommend 5mm spacer on prosocline for best results ?
Yeh 5mm for porcelain and 10mm for stone 👍🏴
did you have to test the soil for the soakaway if its suitable? as im looking to add a soakaway also thanks
We were lucky it’s rained really heavy overnight and was dry in the morning 👍🏴
Hi Scott, got a diy project. Basically a block wall with 20mm porcelain tile. What block, primer and mortar do you recommend? Gettinng mixed advice
Same answer 👍🏴
Hi Scott, are warped porcelain tiles commonplace? Recieved my 900x600x20 tiles and there’s a 4mm warp on both sides on the majority.
Seems to be a common problem these days with porcelain warping 👍🏴
Unrelated question… but what type of block work would be easiest to prime for outdoor porcelain tiling? and what primer would you recommend? BAL and primer slurry?

Would a 3mmjoint on porcelain paving be too small a joint just asking for a friend 👍
Matty from brockstone does 3mm joints I think it’s to small myself 5’s plenty 👍🏴
Thanks I’ll tell him get 5mm spacers 👍👍
I thought a soakaway had to be 5m from the property??
In the ideal world it’s just a preference at the end of the day not a rule 👍🏴
What is the name and colour paving tiles?
Towngate grey from marshalls I believe 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping thanks you send me the message
How come you have type 1 as sub base rather than concrete?
Here in the uk type1 is enough as it’s only foot traffic after all 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping I’m in the uk too, we always lay on a concrete base for patios 👍
