I’m always keeping my eye on the just to fast a time lapse ? Everything went like a dream with the worlds biggest critic stood right next to me the customer 👍🏴
I notice that you lay the wall edge slab (or spacer slab), then lay the rest of the row from the edging tile - then you lift and either relay the full wall-side slab, or remove and dig out the spacer slab. Is the reason for laying and then relaying/removing the wall side slab to enable you to use the spirit level to get the levels right, or some other reason?
I think the answer is to the question is. The last tile I lift and relay is only for levels I then lift it up to move it next to the last tile for the correct spacing hope that’s what you mean 👍🏴
I live USA and have not seen curbing like you use and interested. Is it formed along with drains attached? Would have loved to see you show the install on this as nothing sets up job better than proper borders. Also, what did you use to attach border tiles in front of house as edging. That looked really great and have not seen that done around here. Cheers!
The drainage channels were set up by the customer before I arrived there called Polychannel a Uk company. And the edging at the front of the house were all cemented in with a 4/1 sharp sand mix 👍🏴
Love the video. Around most of my house is a 10cm gravel edge between the brickwork and any paving. I guess that is to prevent any run-off from the walls scooting across the pavers. Would you recommend that or not please? Most of your videos have the slabs going up to the brickwork. Is it just personal preference assuming the slabs are well below the damp course level? Thanks.
Great job Scott as always, quick question, were those Porcelain tiles as I'd like to have the same done and if so would you recommend sealing them? If yes what would you seal them with and recommendations? Thanks 👍🏻

After watching that video i had to subscribe! Absolute quality 🤌🏻 Over the aco drains, there was a raised black boarder around the grass area, assuming that is there to retain the earth. My question is, what was it? Was it just timber painted black? Or was it a specific edging around the astro turf?

Are porcelain tiles easier or harder to lay (process wise) to Natural stone? Stuck between what I want for my own garden and plan on doing it myself. Great job as always, these look amazing!
Hey Scott - just watched this - thats a proper tidy job - i got a quick question - we've had our patio done with porcelain tiles 800x800 - the boys did a great job and they look fantastic , we had 5 tiles left over and im wondering could i lay them over some patio patio steps so itll tie in with the next level ?
@tidybrickslandscaping thanks for the reply fella - I'm looking at either spreading a SBR slurry over the existing patio steps ( they are cotswold slabs ) then spreading 20mm of sand cement spreading a layer of slurry on the bottom of the tile them leveling the tile or using a plastic support and doing away with the mortar - the steps are solid though I may have to trim the overhang with a grinder as I want to have the risers to fit flush to the step - I'm goin to have to make up a mix to attach the risers anyway so I'm not sure which will produce the best results
@@PhilM62 as long as the slurry is also a cement mix then yeh great it does work I’ve tested it I just drys quicker and it’s all trail and error regarding steps but as long as it’s primed it’ll work Good luck 👍🏴
@tidybrickslandscaping thanks mate - we had the lower half of the patio done in 2021 and upper section is just levelled stone my missus stopped me having a go at that until the interior of the house is finished ( weve only been here since 1992 😆) I'm going to do a composite deck on the raised section and its only 2 steps that need to be covered - so I've been hard at work studying any RUclips videos before I get stuck in - the problem is , is that you make it look so ridiculously easy - just waiting for this rain to sod off so I can have decent few days - that's typical South Wales for u but its been much worse than normal
Brilliant video and quality workmanship, about to start laying 600x900 porcelain tiles for my patio and would love to lay them in brick bond my problem being that there would be a change in gradient from path to patio due to existing levels (not too drastic may be 50mm over 3.0m) is it possible to get over this in brick bond or would you choose linear brick bond? There is a definitive line where gradient changes.
Those size tiles are quite large it’s easier to change gradient with smaller tiles but can be done if you seen my driveway video porcelain tiles I had similar level issues that was lucky I had a expansion joint to allow me to turn faster 👍🏴
Beautiful work! I've got a quick question. How long can you let mortar dry on one edge before adding another tile next to it? Is that a problem if it gets too dry because of waiting a few days between sections?
Great video! I'm going to try and lay a patio myself this week, what guide lines do you use? I want to make sure my guides are spot on but the ones I have keep snapping or fraying. Thanks!
Hi Scott I noticed on one of your top 10 tips videos you were saying 100 not and 30 mm sand and cement, but on this porcelain job the bed would seem to be approx 80mm, would the Mot still be 100mm ?? Thanks Scott
I would recommend pressure washing the concrete as clean as possible then cement prime the concrete lay cement bed and also prime back of the tile 👍🏴

Craig Martin, probably because they are a waist of money and time imo, the slabs are too heavy for them and in all honesty they don’t do anything other than spacing and for that you can use cheap tile spacers. If your bed is correct levels the tiles are not going up or down anyway and these tile levellers are not stronge enough to hold them or to level them if one slab was 2mm lower, if you tried to tighten them to get both slabs flush they just snap, I bought a bag for my place after seeing them on here as i was laying porcelain slabs at my place for the first time ( laid plenty of patios in past), used about 10 of them and threw them in the shed as just not needed imo Better off running to your lines and using levels and your eyes ect
Hi mate, would i be able to fix down an aluminium pergola, on a porcelain patio that has a full sharp sand cement mortar bed. Theres no concrete under jusy dolly. Is that enough of a fixing, the mortar? Regards
I started with a rubi to be fair but it started to rust and slow cutting with its 1 horse power engine unlike the 3 horse I have now. Hopefully we’ll have a discount code with tilers tools soon 👍🏴
Hi Scott, Great job, looks fab! I live in Denmark and most tradesmen recommend installing large porcelain on Sharp sand, due to frost thaw heave. What are your thoughts on this?
Genuine question here. Are you always meant to put your aco drains first then run your tiles to it? I thought the sco stains would be last to install so you know where the bottom level exactly. How did you ensure you were going to meet the aco drains dead on? Love your channel even though I have no interest in tiles or landscaping. I live the way you talk and choice of music 😃 greetings from a Turkish fan 🇹🇷
Let’s just say the customer did a fantastic job setting the levels made my life so much easier with the aco’s and gave me something to aim for Thx for watching glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏴
Wow - great teamwork to produce that result! May I ask your advice regarding a 12 metre squared area that I’m going to pave using porcelain 1200x600x20 tiles… 1: The tiles (approx half) will need to be lifted in about a year because of an extension to the property which will overlap onto the proposed tiled area. Can porcelain tiles be laid on a bed of compacted mot1 with only sand on the top layer and grouted in with the flexible brush in grout? Sorry to all the experts who will probably be baulking at reading this….however, the tiles were expensive and I would like a solution that does the job but can also be moved at a later date. 2 - from the patio doors to the far end of the paving, the measured drop is 6 inches. To alleviate this, would you recommend a 1:60 fall ratio bringing it down about 2.5 inches and I’m thinking to use some 600x600 spare concrete pavers which can be cut in half to use as pin curbs around all the edges. Would sincerely appreciate some decent advice before I set forth with my spade!
Hi Brad thanks for watching my videos as for your idea laying the tiles on compacted MOT what I would suggest would be to lay the tiles on a cement bed but always a but. Lay the tiles on a semi dry mix of cement and do not prime the back of the tile and they should pop up relatively easy just make sure the cement is relatively dry so it can’t stick but will go hard enough to you allow you to level and walk on And yes use that flexible brush grout because it’s so easy to take out with a screwdriver anyways it’s basically a shit product otherwise. 👍🏴
Great video 👍 can you lay on an existing patio?,it’s all solid they just want a revamp. Also I have some concrete steps I want to lay porcelain slabs on ,can you use a tile adhesive to fix the slabs so only a tight bed ? Cheers in advance 👍
Absolutely yes no problem i use it on 600s by 1200 no problem. Also depends on the surface if the Indian sandstone is heavily rivend and then it might not work 👍🏴
I have a 6" drop going from patio doors to outside surface and I find it is really awkward. Maybe it's just me, I would prefer to see a landing step to just under the patio cill.
Hi Scott, quick question about base prep, do you think a PQC is necessary for residential rear patios? I don't think I've seen you do one for rear gardens and this one looks to be MOT Type 1 with a mortar bed on top, so would appreciate the feedback, thanks in advance.
I’m lucky a lot of places I work on it’s normally clay so the base is stable if the ground your digging is very earthy then yeh I’d use it 100 type1 30/40 mm cement 👍🏴
Question what's that thing you put on the edge, looks like to drain water or something. I too am laying tiles and it meet grass I don't know how I can stabilize it. Someone with experience please help
Laying 180 square metres of 1200 by 600 porcelain tiles at min actually don't mind them just have to be accurate with your bed and I use a 18mm piece of ply to tap into bed which sets bed perfectly within a few mm which works great for these big tiles👍
@@tidybrickslandscaping even better way as ply can get misshapen after a while is get a 18mm fence board 1200mm long and tap it into bed against already tile edges and set it to level required on other side within a few mm and screed of the middle to marks made by board and place your tile and tap it down the few mm guaranteed no voids under tile👍
What do you use in your 4 in 1 mix to make it so creamy? I've tried using sharp sand & cement at home. All the water rises out of it and is a nightmare with workability Great great job btw
Good question the reason for moving the tile over is to give to person that end of the tile room for his fingers to get under still. And the second out the front I guess you mean the pathway leading to the door that was then infilled to following day when setting the edges.. also the cement we used for the path was quite wet as it was a tight bed needed and would of filled in the footing for the edging 👍🏴

Hi mate, would i be able to fix down an aluminium pergola, on a porcelain patio that has a full sharp sand cement mortar bed. Theres no concrete under jusy dolly. Is that enough of a fixing, the mortar?
Regards
Sorry for the delay and yes you can with the right fixings you can fix anything 👍🏴
Tidy work Scott! That Zoe looks like a beast compared to the Rubi. Time to have a rethink!
I started with a rubi to be fair but it started to rust and slow cutting with its 1 horse power engine unlike the 3 horse I have now. Hopefully we’ll have a discount code with tilers tools soon 👍🏴
Great team work that’s what I need as my labourers are getting worse each one I employ 😂😂😂
The customer would narrow the cement round take some out spread it round near enough and I finish it off.
Teamwork makes the dream work 👍🏴
Hello, how much did this job cost labor and materials, including tile?
The customer bought all the materials I just did it in a day rate 👍🏴
Excellent video! One question... what product do you use to glue the pavers? what is the cement mixture? Thank you so much!
5 sharp sand 1 cement ratio and I use the Marshall’s primer for the tiles to stick to the cement 👍🏴
Hey Scott, what time do you usually start in the morning?
8am starter till 5 ish 👍🏴
Hi Scott, Great job, looks fab! I live in Denmark and most tradesmen recommend installing large porcelain on Sharp sand, due to frost thaw heave. What are your thoughts on this?
Most likely they are correct then as it’s not so cold over here then we can add cement 👍🏴
Let’s just say the customer did a fantastic job setting the levels made my life so much easier with the aco’s and gave me something to aim for
Thx for watching glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏴
What are the thicknesses of build ups here. Type 1 depth? Concrete depth? Looks cracking
Only 100 mm of type 1MOT hard-core no concrete 30/40mm cement bed 20mm tile all about 150mm ish 👍🏴
great job as always, tiles look amazing aswell any idea what are they called ?
Thanks Shawn I’ll take note tomorrow and reply with the name but I do know they were bought from Mandarin Stone and now discontinued anyways 👍🏴
I’ve been struggling with mine, 😅 what do you recommend when flags this size are bowed? Splitting the joints is a nightmare.
I hear some people are going 3/4 bond but it’s a no real win situation otherwise 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping I thought that might be the only way. Thank you for your reply and advice 🙏
@@drewthatsme6212 no worries, hope it goes well 👍🏴
Wow - great teamwork to produce that result!
May I ask your advice regarding a 12 metre squared area that I’m going to pave using porcelain 1200x600x20 tiles…
1: The tiles (approx half) will need to be lifted in about a year because of an extension to the property which will overlap onto the proposed tiled area.
Lay the tiles on a semi dry mix of cement and do not prime the back of the tile and they should pop up relatively easy just make sure the cement is relatively dry so it can’t stick but will go hard enough to you allow you to level and walk on
And yes use that flexible brush grout because it’s so easy to take out with a screwdriver anyways it’s basically a shit product otherwise. 👍🏴
Great video 👍 can you lay on an existing patio?,it’s all solid they just want a revamp. Also I have some concrete steps I want to lay porcelain slabs on ,can you use a tile adhesive to fix the slabs so only a tight bed ? Cheers in advance 👍
Hi just after some advice. Will a grabo lift Indian sandstone slabs? Particularly 900x600 ones?
Absolutely yes no problem i use it on 600s by 1200 no problem.
Also depends on the surface if the Indian sandstone is heavily rivend and then it might not work 👍🏴
I have a 6" drop going from patio doors to outside surface and I find it is really awkward. Maybe it's just me, I would prefer to see a landing step to just under the patio cill.
I did ask but they were fine without 👍🏴
Hi Scott, quick question about base prep, do you think a PQC is necessary for residential rear patios? I don't think I've seen you do one for rear gardens and this one looks to be MOT Type 1 with a mortar bed on top, so would appreciate the feedback, thanks in advance.
I’m lucky a lot of places I work on it’s normally clay so the base is stable if the ground your digging is very earthy then yeh I’d use it
100 type1
30/40 mm cement 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping Thanks for the quick reply, our ground is very heavily clay based too 👍
Hi Scott great job
Just wondered how much sand you allow per M2, you had 9 tons delivered and still ran out !😀
Not sure on the exact answer per metre square but yeh used slightly more than anticipated 👍🏴
great video! so thats 1500 sq feet for us in america correct?
Absolutely know idea 💡👍🏴 you’ll have to figure that out
Question what's that thing you put on the edge, looks like to drain water or something. I too am laying tiles and it meet grass I don't know how I can stabilize it. Someone with experience please help
That’s called Polychannel it’s a drainage channel 👍🏴
Laying 180 square metres of 1200 by 600 porcelain tiles at min actually don't mind them just have to be accurate with your bed and I use a 18mm piece of ply to tap into bed which sets bed perfectly within a few mm which works great for these big tiles👍
Good idea stick a handle on it 🙌👍🏴
S coyle only 180m2 your earning to much 😂😂
@@tidybrickslandscaping even better way as ply can get misshapen after a while is get a 18mm fence board 1200mm long and tap it into bed against already tile edges and set it to level required on other side within a few mm and screed of the middle to marks made by board and place your tile and tap it down the few mm guaranteed no voids under tile👍
@@scoyle1750 🤔 interesting I could see how that works 👍🏴
@@jimmyjones1035 180m2 of grouting too 😭 👍🏴
What do you use in your 4 in 1 mix to make it so creamy?
I've tried using sharp sand & cement at home. All the water rises out of it and is a nightmare with workability
Great great job btw
5/1 mix and I use a small squirt of fairy liquid every mix 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping cheers mate
Plasticiser can help for work ability as well I use either one.
Do you use a 4:1 sharp sand mix ?
👍🏴
You know at the back near the wall, how come you set the tiles then move it over? And at the front how come you only bed the middle of the tiles?
Good question the reason for moving the tile over is to give to person that end of the tile room for his fingers to get under still. And the second out the front I guess you mean the pathway leading to the door that was then infilled to following day when setting the edges.. also the cement we used for the path was quite wet as it was a tight bed needed and would of filled in the footing for the edging 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping ahh I see. Thanks for the answer 👍🏻
