You two were delightful to watch, so cute. You did a great job. I was looking for videos as I am going to put granite tiles down on my daughters patio area that I got for free. They are 12 by 12 but hey they were free. I hope I can do the job as I am 77 years old. Yea, I know, a lot for an old lady to take on.
Yall got serious heart, very nice to see a young couple getting ISH done!!!! Suggestion, yall should install a semi inground pool and deck, I think yall can do it!!!! It would complete the back yard with somewhere to cool off. PS Fluffy was dope!!!
I love your determination and how you are showing us the reality of laying tile outdoors... it is very rewarding once it is complete... looks fantastic!!! Bailey is gorgeous and has gotten so big 💞
It definitely wasn’t easy but the finish look made it sooo worth it! Thank you so much for your support Laura 🫶🏻🥰 Bailey is huge, It hurts to see her grow so fast!
Good luck!! It was so tiring for us, but we are happy we did it on our own. We saved so much money not hiring it out. We hope yours comes out great!! 🙏🏻
Awesome job 👍. You two are such hard workers and an amazing team. It came out beautiful. Looking forward to the finish project. Your fur baby is so precious 💕.
Beautiful job! The patio looks amazing ! Thank you so much for sharing this process with us. Congratulations to you both for seeing it through despite frustration and delays with a smile and positivity. 🙂 Love your little doggie. ❤🐕You guys are great!
Thank you soo much !! 🙏🏻 It was definitely a more tiring project but the outcome made it all worth it. I guess that’s what makes doing things yourself soo satisfying.Thank you so much for watching and your support ! We a truly appreciate it 🐕🤎
Hello! It still looks absolutely stunning and it has withstood multiple storms and a lot of weather changes! It was an investment but we absolutely love it
To late now but it is helpful to lay down a good chunk of mortar at once and spreading it over a larger area then just one tile at a time. It helps so mortar doesn’t keep being forced out through tile joints and it also helps buttering the tile. Meaning doing the same technique you did laying mortar on concrete but doing so on the tile. Better adhesion. Also only need about 85 to 90 percent coverage of thinset.
Love the videos! I live in Port Saint Lucie FL and the back of my house looks exactly like yours. I am 100% going to copy this exact idea for my hosue. I am just curious why you didnt add the roof to the pergola before doing everything else so you wouldnt have to fight against the rain?
Thank you so much for your support and kind words, we are so exited for you! Honestly, we did the whole backyard in phases and were figuring out along the way, so I think that’s why we did the floor first. In hindsight, it could have been the last thing but we love how it came out! Best of luck with your build
Thank you so much! We purchased these at Lowe’s when they were on clearance and here is the link: www.lowes.com/pd/CERAMICAS-TESANY-Westport-Sand-White-12-in-x-24-in-Glazed-Porcelain-Stone-Look-Floor-Tile/1001028366
Hey guys, where in Florida are you? We are in Spring Hill. I am about to start to install the tiles on my front porch, and it is so funny, but it is the same style you guys did😅. Good job on that patio; I hope you can install some color LED strip lights that will flash at the bit of the music. We did that, and it is so cool; they are cost-effective.💪🏼🙏 -Jorge & Ann
😂 oh what a coincidence! We are in the space coast of Florida! That is actually a great idea, we have been considering what additions we can make so thank you so much! 🙏🏼
Thanks for posting this video and looks professional. There is a uncoupling membrane, any reason why you decided to do without it (given all the careful planning you have had)? I am thinking of buying extra tiles and keep them aside in case I have to replace the tiles when the concrete beneath break, the Schuleter uncoupling membrane is a darn plastic sheet and they want nearly $2 per sqft.
Honestly, no. There is no specific reason as to why we did not put it but the floor has held up perfectly. We do not have any cracked floor tiles but still kept some in stock as well to replace if need be. Our advice would be to make sure to add enough of the tile mix under to prevent it from feeling hollow, which often leads to the cracking. Best of luck with your build
Looks incredible!! I'm about to do the same to my patio that's the same size as y'all's. How much did this whole project cost you? I know tiles vary in price quite a bit but I was hoping to get a ballpark. I'm going w a 12x12 ceramic tile. Love the color choice y'all made!! Beautiful.
Thank you so much! The tile we purchased was on special at the time so it was about $600 for this whole space and, including everything else, the whole floor cost us about $1,300 or so. It will vary depending on the tile you select and the amount of mortar you need. How exciting you are putting tile as well, it makes a huge difference! Good luckkk!
@@TheHandyCreatorsthank you for answering!! I've decided to extend my patio around a side of the house first so I have to lay concrete, then I want to design and create a pergola and last would be tile so it's put off for a while but I gotta do everything in baby steps cause I'm doing it all myself. Wish me luck!!!! Y'all's looks amazing and I took a ton of inspiration from it. ✌️
Thank you! They are very easy to clean which is nice. They can get a bit slippery when wet. Not as much as others but they do. Luckily with the roof this area doesn’t really get wet much, only when we clean.
This might be a silly question, but i assume the slab slopes very subtly for water to run off? When checking for levels do you take that into account or just have it the same level?
No silly questions here! Even though we did take that into account, we still checked for level when installing the tile since now we were adding adding mortar mix.
How's it holding up so far? This product is 3/8" thick and I want to do the same thing. But whenever I google the recommendation is always to use a 20mm (3/4") thick tile for outdoors.
We haven’t had any issues, it looks the same as the day we installed it. This tile is sold as exterior and we love it. It’s anti slip and very easy to maintain. Hope this helps!
In our opinion, we found it easier to add a bit extra grout and then remove the excess. We just worked in small sections at a time, That way you ensure that all the crevices are filled in.
Im trying to do this and i was told i needed to use something on the concrete that will help with expansion and contraction otherwise the tiles will crack when the concrete expands
Honestly, we have not heard about that in the past, but if it helps, it’s been over a year since we installed ours and there’s has been no signs of this
It can get a bit slippery when wet but not like other tiles. We haven’t had any slipping accidents yet .😂 just make sure to buy one that is any slip. We know people who installed inside tile outside and it felt like an ice ring.
At the time, we were only doing this on the weekend. If we remember correctly, we believe it took us an entire long weekend or two to install the tile and the grout
Honestly, there’s not really a reason why, we just didn’t do it. We have seen that a lot of people do it, so it’s something to keep in mind if you are deciding to recreate it.
Hello! To our knowledge, yes you can. We would just advise to make sure that a tile connection is not right above the concrete expansion joints to prevent it from not having strength
The tile we purchased was on special at the time so it was about $600 for this whole space and, including everything else, the whole floor cost us about $1,300 or so. It will vary depending on the tile you select and the amount of mortar you need.
To install the tile and extend the concrete patio, we spent around 1,500 - 2,000 just in materials alone. The price can vary depending on the size you are trying to redo
Your glue trowel notches/teeth are too small for the size of the tile. You are using the trowel meant for walls and small tiles. It would have been way easier for you to use 12 millimeter notch/teeth trowel. Good effort tho.👍

That is amazing! Looks great. How do you know where to start with tile if you have a screened in concrete lanai? So the grout lines are straight.
Oh wow !! Amazing 👏 you guys are awesome .love how it came out and love the neutral colors .so elegant and beautiful!!

Nice job! That is a young person’s job😊. Did you back butter those large tiles to avoid that hollow sound when you walk on them?
Thank you so much! Yes, we ensured to add enough concrete so that they are not hollow! We did not want to risk them breaking after all that work lol

@@TheHandyCreators How did you take it into account? If keeping level would it not flatten out the surface?
Thanks
@@TheTraveller777I don’t think they took that into account
No because when installing the tile, we used the level to ensure that it had the same small slope that the slab had for water runoff.
It was something that we took into account. We used the level to ensure that it had a similar slope to the slab

You should’ve put primer first on the concrete n waterproof (liquid)
Thank you for the advice! We had not heard about that before 🙏🏼
Primer yes, but don't need to water proof. It's on ground level outside.
When spreading the grout, is it best to spread it with more or less? I live in California area very dry, and heatful
In our opinion, we found it easier to add a bit extra grout and then remove the excess. We just worked in small sections at a time, That way you ensure that all the crevices are filled in.
You decided not to use an isolation membrane? I was told it was highly recommended.
We did not, and given the chance, we might of added it if we had to redo it, but there has been no cracking or signs of needed it to date.
groves gotta go across the tile not with the tile. Hows it holding up?
It has been almost 2 years since we installed them and they are holding up beautifully. No cracks or broken tile
Im trying to do this and i was told i needed to use something on the concrete that will help with expansion and contraction otherwise the tiles will crack when the concrete expands
Honestly, we have not heard about that in the past, but if it helps, it’s been over a year since we installed ours and there’s has been no signs of this

How many days did it take you to finish the project
At the time, we were only doing this on the weekend. If we remember correctly, we believe it took us an entire long weekend or two to install the tile and the grout
Is there a reason that you didn't back-butter the tile, with the thinset?
Honestly, there’s not really a reason why, we just didn’t do it. We have seen that a lot of people do it, so it’s something to keep in mind if you are deciding to recreate it.
Hi can tiles able to lay over the concrete expansion joints
Hello! To our knowledge, yes you can. We would just advise to make sure that a tile connection is not right above the concrete expansion joints to prevent it from not having strength
Preferred it how it looked before the tiles was down 🤣🤣🤣🤣
We get it, the rustic look never disappoints!
How long took you guys finish the job?
It took us about 2-3 days to install the tile due to poor weather in our area
How do you deal with the step down onto the grass
I’m not entirely sure what you mean..? The tile level is almost at the same height as the ground. There isn’t a big enough difference to add a step.
I’m doing tiles and grass in my backyard should I allow for the thickness of the tiles or should I just do the tiles first then grass accordingly
Wow. Great job. I will do my same.❤
You can do it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
How did you finish the edges?
We used stucco to fill any gaps and connect the tile to the existing concrete slab for a seamless look.
What are the dimensions of your concrete patio slab?
The patio slab ended up being 40 ft long by 10 ft wide
How much was the total cost of the project? Thanks
The tile we purchased was on special at the time so it was about $600 for this whole space and, including everything else, the whole floor cost us about $1,300 or so. It will vary depending on the tile you select and the amount of mortar you need.
Is the tile 8mm or 20mm?
The tiles are 8mm and we purchased them at Lowe’s
How much did that cost?
To install the tile and extend the concrete patio, we spent around 1,500 - 2,000 just in materials alone. The price can vary depending on the size you are trying to redo
