What’s up guys it’s Alex from Hialeah lol. You could do 2x4s head lapped over each other and it’ll close up the roof and give it a nice look. You might have to add an extra truss going from the wall towards the 4x4s so the 2x4s don’t warp and bend down since you have a 10’ span. Maybe even create a plywood deck, water proof it and then do what I mentioned above that
Lol hey man!! Thank you so much for that idea 🙏🏼 this is definitely something that we’re considering, since it would completely waterproof the area! Hope you guys are all doing well!! 😁😁
as a builder by profession, your effort you put in here is by no means you are on a budget. both of you have the skill, knowledge, necessary tools machineries and most importantly the time to make things happen. there's no need to pay others and in most cases unqualified builders to do the job for u
Thank you very much for the kind words! We always try to figure it out and if we don’t know, look up information to do these builds. We truly believe that with patience and determination, anything is possible
This is professional build money and labors sweat and tear omg amazing job
Thank you so much, that means a lot. It was a lot of work, but so worth it! 😍🙏🏻
It looks amazing and you should be proud of yourselves! I look forward to future projects. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Thank you SOOOO much! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi.. I just watched your video of the extended patio, and I'm in love with it. We plan to do ours also, so this is what I have in mind . We are also new homeowners, so happy I found your channel ❤
Congrats on your new home ♥️ it is definitely a blessing ! We love to hear that, it was a lot of hard work but truly worth it. To see all your hard work coming together, there’s no better feeling ! Thanks for your support and kind words !
The concrete countertop is a great idea you guys did such a great job!
Thank you so much! It was definitely a fun hectic experience 😂
I used clear greenhouse panels for my patio roof so that I still get the open to the sky deck feel, and plenty of light for plants, but am protected from weather on rain/snow/sleet days
Oh wow, that must look magical ! 💚 We ended up doing an aluminum roof and we’re very happy with it. We’re definitely glad the shades didn’t work out!
ruclips.net/video/IpKPKdY9YKw/видео.html
I like your honest words about the saggy cover. Your natural style is great.
Thank you so much for the support! We always aim to give honest advice to prevent others from making the same mistakes 😃
Ok honestly this is my first time watching your video. I think you guys did such an amazing DIY job and you guys should give each other a pat in the back. Looks stunning and I’m sure you guys will come up with a great idea for the roof. 🥂🥂🥂
Thank you so much for these words!! We truly appreciate it! Thank you for your support ☺️
DIY? This is more a MASTERPIECE!
LOL!!! Thank you THANK YOUUUU!!! 🙏🏻
Great job guys looks very beautiful👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you!!! We are very happy with the finished outcome 😀
You guys are rock stars!!!!
Aww thank you so much for your support! 🙏😊
Looking good. 👍 Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you so much ! 🫶🏻
Great work!!!! Ima try a shade sail, thanks for inside info. Keep posting!!!!
Enjoy that back yard!!!
Thank you so much for your support! Definitely give it a try!
You guys are clearly handy I recommend you make your own shade sails. You could hire a seamster/ress and just provide materials or DIY with a sewing machine its really not that hard I made mine never sewed a thing in my life. This vid was awesome you guys killed and worked together which is awesome!
Oh wow that is an amazing idea! Thank you so much for the advice! We ultimately ended up installing metal roof panels, but will keep this in mind for future projects! We truly appreciate your feedback and support 😊
Looks nice you guys saved thousands of dollars doing it yourself you guys are ready to start your business
That’s the dream! 🙏🏻 thank you so much!
I like your structure, and think the floor is awesome. It looks great on the back of your house. But I agree that tarps are not a good option for a semi-permanent roof. They may work for shade, but when it rains, they are worse than useless. I know because we tried using a huge tarp over the pergola frame we built at the back of our house. We installed the "rafter" pieces with a dramatic slant so rain would run off. We even added a triangular piece to the outside of each upright so the rigid support we put into the edge of the tarp would have an angle to rest against and would just put slightly past the posts. While it worked in that rain did not pool, and did run off, the flow of water from a heavy rain would come off the edge of the canopy and arc right back toward the inside of the structure, so everything near the outside edge was soaked. We could never figure out how to avoid that effect, so we had the equivalent of a small waterfall coming down over the outside edge of our tarp awning/roof every time it rained hard. There may be a way to beat that effect, but my advice is to use tarps the same way you'd use umbrellas: as shade when you need it. For a semi-permanent roof, you need a better solution. 😕😕😕
Thank you! We are honestly so happy at the end that it didn’t work out because we needed up adding something much nicer and better quality. At the moment we were super let down but now we are so happy it happened like it did. Those tarps can be nice but definitely not a long term solution in our opinion and they can be really pricey too!
Awesome! That was my comment! I love the outcome and wish you guys the best for the pergola top solution!
Haha! Thank you, it was such an important topic we didn’t even realize it along the way! Thanks for your support!
Love what you did & amazing. For sure you’ll get the best for it
Thank you so much!! A lot of hard work but totally worth it.
Look into a polycarbonate cover for the pergola. Check out regal plastics.
Thank you for the recommendation! We will look into it 🙏🏻
WOW! It looks GREAT!!!
THANK YOU!! 🙏🏻
So beautiful.my dream!!
Aww thank you so much, it was a lot of work but definitely worth it 🙏🏼
Damn lucky man right here! 👍🏽
A women that helps out with labor is a keeper!!! She’s very beautiful!
Thank you so much, I really am lucky! She truly is one a of a kind, I would not be able to do most of what we’ve done without her right there with me! She’s definitely a keeper! Thank you so much for the support and kind words
Love how you both work together to complete the job #teamwork
Thank you so much for your comment, we love working together. We bring out the best in each other! Thank you for your kind words 😊
I see a DIY inground swimpool in the future !!
Well done ! Excellent job !
You're so handy. Have you considered
Making your own panels and scotch guarding them ? 👏❤
Thank you so much 😊 no, honestly, that didn’t even cross our minds! Wow, that would of actually been a terrific idea! Thank you so much for the tips!
You did an amazing job
Thank you so much!
Y’all are cute, and determined, and badass for putting in that sweat equity into your house. That porch came out fantastic. I’m not a pro but I’m a professional homeowner and do my own work too. I’m sure you’ll have some pros in the comment section saying y’all did stuff wrong, maybe you did, but you learn through your mistakes and this is a great outcome!
Thank you for this comment, you have no idea how much it made us smile! We really are learning along the way, and falling more in love with the process as time passes. We would definitely do some things differently this time around but we have no regrets. Thank you so much for your support!!
great teamwork
Thank you so much for your support! 😁
I think if you utilize those shades on TOP of the pergola it might work and be tight. You may have to overlap them to make them fit but I think that might work for
That is actually a great idea, we ended putting metal roofing and loved how the it came out so I guess it all worked out lol. Thank you so much for watching
You guys did such a great job!! Now I actually think I can do the same too lol😂
😂😂 honestly that is our goal with our videos!!! It was a lot of hard work but definitely worth it!
Awesome work! Perhaps retractable shades?
That is definitely an option! We ended up adding metal panels to give it a more industrial feel and keep it on the more affordable side
Great work👏👏👏
Thank you so much!! 😃😃
HI, super Nice Job! Just bought a house and want to do the same thing...any Idea range of budget for this? Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! Hope you get to do it very soon 🙏🏻 The whole project cost around $3,500 for the pergola, kitchen, patio extension and flooring. Then we added a metal roof so that did add on to the price.
This is amazing
Thank you!!
I wish you guys would show steps by steps or slow down of the part with the posts installation and the build of the pergola. I'm trying to do the same thing but kinda got lost on what to do.
If you check out our channel, we have step by step videos on everything we did for our backyard. This is just all of it coming together. We have a whole playlist under “our backyard makeover”. Hope this helps!
Wow! Excellent video. Very nice. You guys killed it! Hey, what was that music you had playing in your video? I cannot get it out of my head!!! Who was that playing? I LOVE IT!
Thank you so much for the support and we are glad you liked the video! We put a couple of different songs through the video, do you have the minute that you are referring to?
@@TheHandyCreators On OUR DIY BACKYARD PATIO MAKEOVER ON A BUDGET it was a song that played almost the whole video. from 0:40 to 11:50. Then it stops and you guys start talking about how it did not fit, it was wrong size.
We have tried to look for it over the last few days but had no luck 😕 where we get our music from is always upgrading their songs. So sorry!
Guess what?!? We found the song! It is an iMovie soundtrack called Anythings by Chris James
@@TheHandyCreators That's It!!! I really appreciate you guys finding the song! Love you guys!!! (Continue the great work you do! I'll be watching!).
love it! what app did y'all use for the mock up? We want to give ours a makeover!
Thank you so much for your support! Believe it or not, we just used a pencil and paper to sketch out the whole thing prior to building it
you guys did a great job but a small critique you poured the slab with no rebar ????? and you tiled it ??? keep my fingers crossed for it not to crack.
Thank you! Yeah, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Lol
Nice job guys! Thanks to share your experience, do you mind share how much does was your budget for that project?
Thank you so much! Thank you so much! The whole project cost around $3,500 for the pergola, kitchen, patio extension and flooring. Then we added a metal roof so that did add on to the price. Prices have increased so much since though 😕
Love it
Thank you!!
Nice Job ,question ,do you need to pull a permit from the city to
All this ?? Thanks
Thank you!! We always always recommends for people to ask in your county and city. It really does vary depending your location. Some counties are more strict than others or their procedures are different. Best bet in our opinion is to find out before hand !
Awesome job! How are the Vevor cabinets holding up?
Thank you!! Honestly, it’s holding up great. No issues really. We do think there might be better quality cabinets out there. The doors of these are a bit flimsy in our opinion.. Hope that helps!
Hi I love watching you guys videos. I am looking to build a patio cover similar to yours. I am also in FL and the permitting had been a pain. How did you guys go about getting your permits? Or did you not have to for this?
Thank you so much for your support 🙏🏻
The permits are definitely an interesting subject and a pain! We always tell everyone to check with their local county / city for their specific policies and procedures. Some county are more strict with their permitting and some just require an inspection at the end. It’s a tricky slope lol
How did you know where to screw the ledger board to the house wall?
Since our house is made fully our of concrete blocks, we just evenly spaced out the bolts so that each board had one on the edges and the middle
Nice work
Thank you so much!
What kind of tile did you use for the patio floor?
We purchased this tile from Lowe’s FLOOR TILE: www.lowes.com/pd/CERAMICAS-TESANY-Westport-Sand-White-12-in-x-24-in-Glazed-Porcelain-Stone-Look-Floor-Tile/1001028366
You need turnbuckles for the tarps. And don’t go with the exact measurement of the opening go smaller use the turnbuckles to tighten it up.
Thank you!!
How long did it take you guys to complete?
To actually make the pergola stand it took us about a weekend but the whole pergola area makeover, including the tile took us a few months with only working on the weekend
About how much did this run you guys? How much would you charge to do this
Thank you so much! The whole project cost around $3,500 for the pergola, kitchen, patio extension and flooring. Then we added a metal roof so that did add on to the price.
Did you need to get permits? And what are those expense in the budget
Since policies vary by location, we always advise to contact your local municipality to know if permits are needed!
@@TheHandyCreators did you need a permit though?
Dude is getting pulverized by the hail. 😂😂😂
Ohh we have never laughed this hard reading a comment before 😂😂😂😂
@@TheHandyCreators 🤣😂🤣😂
Nice!! Did you have to get any permits for your projects?
Thank you!! Permits do vary a lot depending on your city and county. We would recommend to always contact them before starting any project just to confirm their requirements. Some counties are more strict than others.
A year already!! Time flies ❤
It certainly does! Let’s see whats next !! 😍
I'm assuming she is you wife. She's a great girl/wife! Nice job! You guys will go far working together.
I have to say that I completely agree with you lol! Yes, she is my wife and I wouldn’t be able to do anything without her! Thank you so much for the kind words and support!
what did you use to attach the post to the concrete?
We purchased a few post bases from Amazon that made this super simple. Here is the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B07PQMNJ6Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
You can also find everything else we use in the description of the video where we give a step by step for the pergola: ruclips.net/video/mhsgggWbVXs/видео.html
This is beautiful! Do you mind sharing how much this cost?
Thank you so much! The whole project cost around $3,500 for the pergola, kitchen, patio extension and flooring. This also includes the appliances that we purchased for the kitchen
❤
Any cost breakdown ?
The whole project cost around $3,500 for the pergola, kitchen, patio extension and flooring. This also includes the appliances that we purchased for the kitchen
Always measure your product never go off of measurements off a box
The measurements were right but the final result was not as promised 😅
Song name?
We used multiple different songs in the video. Could you point at a specific minute?
@@TheHandyCreators @1:10....i tried to shazam it but got different songs and none matched. It gives me 80s driving the city freeways at night vibes. Thank you for responding. Liked and subscribed!
I tried on my end as well, but can’t find it. Believe it on not, you’re not the first person to ask . 🙁
Awry! Thank you so much, we truly appreciate your support !!
GUESS WHAT!!! We found it lol. It is a soundtrack on iMovie called Anythings by Chris James.
@@TheHandyCreators o m g!!!! Yall are truly the mvps. In a vast sea of youtube questions that go unanswered...this truly is a glitch in the matrix. Thank you!!!!!!
Clear hard plastic
That was definitely an option!
Why don't you make a solid roof over your terrace, at least over the beautiful outdoor kitchen? Aren't you sorry?
We are definitely not sorry, we wanted a pergola for this space. Now we just need to find the right solution that goes along with what we have envisioned for this backyard space 🙏🏻
You guys sound the same 😅
Lmaooo! 😂😂 believe it or not, we get that a lot!
how did you find stud when you install ledger board to stucco?
Our home is made out of concrete blocks, therefor there are no stud by the outside. We used concrete anchors to secure the ledger boards to the house. We have a whole video outlining the whole process. -
ruclips.net/video/mhsgggWbVXs/видео.html
Great question!
Solid job! But what I find even more solid is how you guys stuck together and diligently worked through a tough project day, night and in bad weather. Thats beautiful, that’s solidarity, great work!
Thank you so much! When the job has to get done it has to get done! Thank you so much for your kind comment and support. We truly appreciate it !
You guys did such a good job and your videos were so fun and helpful! Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you so much for your support and watching ! 🙏🏻
ok - let me add my comment: this is what I love about youtube! I get to watch others perform excellent work, and when the project is completed, they share what you could've done differently for better results. It has been said that "commonly, people learn from their mistakes. But wise people learn from the mistakes of others." and I'm sure it's in that spirit that you shared what you would do if you had to do this project again. Well done! Now turn off the light, and get some rest. Hartley [garden grove, CA usa]
Damn let your husband speak. Lmao That man looks miserable.
I appreciate your concern for my well being but, believe me, I am more than fortunate to have a wife who enjoys workinf hand in hand with me on all these projects! I love hearing my wife express herself and show you guys how we create these projects together.
😂😂
Beautiful pergola just had additional, 2x4’s to support, sheets of plywood and wrap it with roof underlay to add shingles. Then if you a quick electrical extension to add a ceiling fan and your done. You can’t go wrong with this.
Nevermind, you did it already lmao
🤣🤣 thank you so much !! Honestly, we still take recommendations for future projects. That actually sounds like a very very good idea. Thank you!
You guys are amazing. Thx for all that you’ve shared.
Thank you for the support ! 🥰
It looks amazing but I would have liked to have seen the video in real time so that everyone can have gotten more out of it. There isn’t any way for people to learn how to DIY kind of stuff out of it. 😢
We totally agree!! This was just an overview of the entire transformation, but we have step by step videos for each part of this build with more detailed instructions! Make sure to check that out under the “OUR BACKYARD MAKEOVER” playlist! Thank you for the support
❤❤❤ I adore this project and the two of you ❤❤❤
Thank you so much ! 🥰🥰
Awesome project 👌 👏 👍
Beautiful!
Thank you so very much!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
To be able to make an outdoor kitchen is also amazing!!!
It truly is a blessing! Thank you so much
Nice patio cover do you need a permit building for it
Thank you so much! We always recommend you contact your local municipality as laws can vary depending on where you live
I am so very impressed with your determination and eye for style. Love the look of this and will be taking some ideas to use in my own home. Thanks for being so brave to share the ups and the downs 🙂 BTW, is that a homemade cement mixer? Very handy being so portable
Thank you so much for your kind words! You truly have no idea how much it means to us both 🙏🏻 we absolutely love our jobs and it really challenges us. Learning and growing more little by little. This cement mixer we rented from home depot! Super easy to use and convenient!
What’s the dimensions of the slab?
the entire patio slab is
40 ft long x 10 ft wide
Use polycarbonate sheets or make your own fabric with outdoor UV safe fabric. Last summer our gazebo top tore to shreds so this summer, Instead of tossing the frame we're going to use it to test out a DIY alternative replacement .
Thank you for that amazing idea! We ended up installing corrugating roofing panels instead to give the space a different look, but that is a great idea! We will keep it in mind for the future!
Excellent work…fast too
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
It looks like you guys are in Florida. This looks like something I would love to have in my backyard. How was the permitting with this? How many permits and inspections did you need?
Hello! Permits. Such a tricky subject. We always tell everyone to check with their County. Requirements and procedures chance in every county, some require way more permits than others. We sat down with our County permitting department and they told us all the permits we would need. Our county does not do many inspections throughout the process, they come at the end. We do know other counties you need to stop throughout the process a lot until you get inspections. It truly all depends. So truly, we recommend finding out where you live what is required.
What kind of grout did you use for outdoor?
We used sanded grout in the color warm grey : www.lowes.com/pd/MAPEI-Keracolor-S-25-lb-Warm-Gray-Sanded-Grout/3032985
We have a whole video outline a step by step for the floor installation below that shows everything we used for that part of the makeover! ruclips.net/video/MrxofJQsMTQ/видео.html
Talk to much🤦🏻♀️
Thanks for your feedback
This was an amazing job! Great Team Work! Did you need to get permits from the city to attach the pergola to the house?
Thank you so much for your kind words! We always recommend you contact your local municipality, as permitting policies vary depending on your location
Turned out great. What size lag bolts did you use to attach the piece of wood to the house? And how were you able to find the studs to drive the lag bolts through?
We used 3/8 inch lag bolts to attach the back wood of the pergola to the house. Since our house is concrete, the bolts are attached directly to the concrete blocks of our home. Here is the link for the bolts www.lowes.com/pd/Red-Head-15-Pack-3-in-x-3-8-in-Sleeve-Anchors/3036496
There should be a local company that does "Canvas Awnings" in your area, you can have them make a custom cover for that.
We didn’t really think of that, it would of looked very nice. We did want something waterproof so we could enjoy the area no matter the weather. We ended up placing corrugated roof panels and we LOVE it! Thank god those shades ended up not working out LOL
Can you guys come help me?
😂 seriously don’t tempt us!
shit i think u guys did awesome even tho u need a roof for it still looks bomb hahaha congratulations.....
😂 Lol! Thank you so much!!!!
Stop the cap 🧢
Please explain yourself
How much did you spent on all that? It is beautiful btw i really see myself trying to do it.
Thank you so much! We are truly happy with the end result. The whole project cost around $3,500 for the pergola, kitchen, patio extension and flooring. Then we added a metal roof so that did add on to the price. But prices have increased so much since 😕
u people are crazy happy, nice stuff dudets. keep doing. keep being happy
Thank you so much for this comment 🙏🏻 there’s truly nothing better than loving what do you.
Looks great
What is the final price?
Thank you so much! The whole project cost around $3,500 for the pergola, kitchen, patio extension and flooring. Then we added a metal roof so that did add on to the price.
Wow 3,500 that's all I just knew it was going to cost way more than that, wish I had somebody that can help me do something like this in my backyard to save money on labor fees, you guys did a good job 👍🏾
great you are amazing both of you very good thanks for sharing the video with us
Thank you so much for your support ! We truly truly appreciate it
Splendide travail ….
Mais pourquoi vous avez pris des plots aussi larges que ça ?
☺️👌
Le redu est super, bravo 🙌
THANK YOU! We loved how it came out, there might be a few things that we would do different now but those were what seemed right at the moment for the technique and support we were looking for.
This is definitely in Florida. I live in southwest Florida
Raining on and off a plus humidity and heat? Yes, definitely Florida ! 😂
Buen trabajo quedó bellísimo que los disfruten mucho
Muchas gracias ! Bastante trabajo pero valio La pena.
Get a retractable awning...that runs along the beams
That would of actually looked very nice!
Very beautiful. Thanks for sharing!! 💚
Thanks for watching!🩵
great job! what color did you get for the fence?
Thank you! It is Cabot Solid Exterior Wood Stain and Sealer color Black
You did great. Can wait to see what is next.
Thank you so much for the support and kind words 🙏🏼
