Little known fact: "Johnny" is played by Charles Pachter, who grew up to be a renowned Canadian painter, sculptor, designer and historian/lecturer whose works have garnered him an order of Canada. His web site is cpachter . com . One of his most famous works is Noblesse Oblige, 1972, which depicts Queen Elizabeth riding a Canadian moose. ;) Pachter recently mentioned his role in this film during an interview on CBC radio.
"Alright, so we need this short to advertise our fair, how should we do it?" "Oh, how about we show a boy going missing and he runs through and meets everybody?" "I don't see a single reason this could go south."
I remember watching this as a kid. I had to sneak out of my room, turn on the TV, and set the volume as low as possible but still hear it so I didn't wake up my parents whose bedroom was right next to the TV. When Joel said, "LET ME OUTTA HERE!" I cracked up laughing, woke up my parents, got yelled at and was sent back to bed.
@@kyon813 I know it's just a joke but obligatory reminder that the Amelia Earhart coconut crab story is a myth. Just pointing it out because people love to spread that story when there is no actually basis for it and realistically it's quite absurd.
***** Here Comes The Circus got dark at some parts, but then Joel stopped the bots, since he's a stick in the mud. In this short, they're allowed to go all out.
+NameNotAlreadyTaken2 Money Talks! is so grim the line "that was my darkest vision yet" is riffed at the end. And the bots even equate the Cheating short with a bleak Bergman film.
Yeah, he does keep telling them their riffs on Here Comes the Circus were too dark... but then he gets tired of trying to stop them and joins in himself with some even darker!
Something about fair/circus themed shorts that really brings out the dark side in the guys. "Look, it's the Arc de Full Retreat." "Joe hits Johnny up for 15 cents for tax problems."
"wohoah, Johnny realizes he's in over his head" "Johnny is irresponsibly put into a speed boat without a life jacket!" "For the first time in his young life, Johnny knows real fear!" "AAAAAAAH!" "Johnny's hydroplane disintegrates on impact..." I had to pause the video, I couldn't stop laughing
Joel and the bots had a lot of great riffing, but I think they really shone during the shorts. Look at this one, Mr B Natural, Body Care & Grooming, Catching Trouble and Circus on Ice to name a few, all classics with fantastic riffs.
Holy crap, did you see how many kids there were in that "Lost Children" concentration camp looking place?!?!?!? You can't tell me some weren't dropped off on purpose!
I spent today at the CNE and had to come watch this again. Joel and the bots fill this short with gloriously dark humour, but it is a shame that this is how a lot of Americans know about the CNE - it really is a good time!
Can't say for sure. The only info I have (previously posted) came from the CBC interview I happened to stumble across on the radio, and in that he made no mention of the MST version of the short. He basically reminisced fondly about appearing in the film. I like to think that somebody, SOMEwhere, was able to get a copy of the MST version to him, but who knows! :)
"Johnny must have everything for himself." "The drugs from the chemical wonderland starts to kick in!" "Johnny's got taste." Hey, I live on Lake Ontario!!
Scene: Baby horse about to nurse on Mama horse. Line: "Whoops! Sorry, Dad!" Never fails to crack me up. This wonderfully twisted short is my favorite after "The Home Economics Story." Also recommend "A Date with Your Family" (aka "The Woody Allen Story!)

Fascinating tidbit there, friend.
Adding on to that, he's still alive today! He's 81 years old.
I wonder what he thought of this spoof?😅

"For the first time in his young life, Johnny knows real fear"!
Highest concentration of superior riffs in the history of MST3K? I'd wage so.
"Alright, so we need this short to advertise our fair, how should we do it?"
"Oh, how about we show a boy going missing and he runs through and meets everybody?"
"I don't see a single reason this could go south."
Love how crowded the "Lost Children" pen was.
Truly the glory days before helicopter parenting.
@@techboysf well yeah, back then it was heelacopter parenting
@@kenetickups6146 Heelacopter aeroplane parenting.
A whiskery man hands Johnny a small packet. "The first one''s free" he says

Johnny really "Forest Gumped" that World's Fair.
pdshiff Mama always said the Canadian National Exhibition was like a box of chocolates.
"Johnny think Amelia Earhart seems like a nice lady"
"Johnny's hydroplane disintegrates on impact"
I love how dark this one is.
They went all out on this one. Easily one of the best shorts
"Jimminy thinks Johnny...If only Incan get a ride in one of those." 🤣
Johnny sure doesn't like the look of those coconut crabs...
@@kyon813 I know it's just a joke but obligatory reminder that the Amelia Earhart coconut crab story is a myth. Just pointing it out because people love to spread that story when there is no actually basis for it and realistically it's quite absurd.
@@tysontaggart7246 Oh, I understand, but it's still darkly funny.
"So, what do you think of Fair Trade?" "I have to go horsies."
I love how shorts like this bring out the really dark humor in the guys.
"Jiminy, Johnny thinks, if only I could get a ride in one of those!"
Jeez, I forgot how dark they went on this one.
"A shot rings out!"
"Joe hits Johnny up for fifteen cents due to tax problems." haha! =D
Mommy had a little vacation.
Johnny feels dark hands pressing him onward. The voices in his head get meaner....
"It will be the first of many encounters with bouncers for Johnny."
"Let this be a warning, to you!" always gets me.
"OOPS, sorry dad"
One of the best gags in the entire series!
+kevin butler ...Your Avatar makes that comment about ten thousand times more hilarious/disturbing...
kevin butler I cant believe they got away with that one. Just hilarious!
"oops, sorry, dad." XD
Ah yes, the 50's when no one worried about their kids being kidnapped in public places.
"Visions of the Mekong delta flash before his eyes."
"For the first time in his life, Johnny experiences real fear."
One of the darkest MST3k shorts, and also one of the best. There's a connection there.
Nah this isn't nearly as dark as the circus short.
***** Here Comes The Circus got dark at some parts, but then Joel stopped the bots, since he's a stick in the mud. In this short, they're allowed to go all out.

BugPope ...but then he makes reference to _Shooting an Elephant_.
Yeah, he does keep telling them their riffs on Here Comes the Circus were too dark... but then he gets tired of trying to stop them and joins in himself with some even darker!
Johnny’s parents only looked for him to keep up appearances.
Yeah, the whole time Mom's going "please let him be dead, I wanna go home alone. "
"Simulated culture like Disney World."
"Oh boy, a heel-a-copter airplane!"
"What?"
"Jiminy, thinks Johnny."
"Besides, the Mariners were playing, so who cares?" ROFL, my all-time favorite line from this show!
Then Johnny transmogrifies...he's a shape shifter!
He breaks the fourth seal!
they looked everywhere, everywhere but one place..."their own hearts"
Something about fair/circus themed shorts that really brings out the dark side in the guys.
"Look, it's the Arc de Full Retreat."
"Joe hits Johnny up for 15 cents for tax problems."
A Helio-copter? Must be solar-powered...
*thought balloon with gears turning appears*
...I first watched this short some 15 years ago and never thought of that. IOU one high five.
A helieo-copter airplane.... lol
I never know Canadian Fairs were so fraught with dangers and pitfalls.
I love how absurdly dark they get.
I think this is the best MST3K short. And trust me, I've seen a lot of them.
"Woah! Johnny realizes he's in way over his head!"
When I get lost, I never get to meet one of the greatest baseball players of all time. It's not fair...
Joe Louis was a boxer. Not a baseball player. It seems Johnny was deprived of your fairness criteria as well...
Oh my gosh. I said baseball player, didn't I?! Joe Louis is up there with Sugar Ray Robinson, Jack Dempsey and Muhammad Ali!
He was going to type boxer, but then the drugs from the Chemical Wonderland, kicked in.
OptimusGPrime am as gjrg egjkxwe ghetgfdg
See.
Johnnie didn't want to go to the art gallery? When I was his age I realized that the art gallery was home to a thousand years of BOOBIES!
Maybe mine was better than the average: the Art Institute of Chicago. But yes, there was a lot of anatomy going on there!
monkeymouse Oh no, the boobs part I buy, I just don't think most five year olds understand the concept of sexuality.
"Johnny must have everything for himself."
"Then Johnny transmorgifies, he is a shapeshifter." "He breaks the fourth seal."
:) I love this one.
whoa, Johnny realizes, he's in over his head!
Joshua Hoover Johnny is irresponsibly placed into a dangerous speedboat without a lifejacket.
For the first time in his young life, Johnny knows real fear.

This short and Mr. B Natural are my favorite MST3K shorts. So many great lines from this one.

3:23 The best line.
In real life, Johnny became a famous Canadian artist.
"Johnny feels stark hands pressing him onward. The voices in his head get meaner."
5:31 - greatest call back reference of all time... this is why I love this show...
Jimny thinks Johnny , if only if I could get a ride in one of those.
The heelo-copter or between the skater's legs?
Matthew Clark Yes
"this is a story about johnny."
Joel: a sad story.
"when, all of the sudden--"

Holy shit, this might be one of funniest shorts they've ever done! :)

visions of the Mekong Delta flash before Johnny's very eyes XD
"RUN, VON RYAN!!!!"
Johnnie feels dark hands pressing him onward, the voices in his head get meaner.
I love Crow's "Johnny Voice"! It's just to funny!
Johnny is played by little Charlie Patcher. According to the actor's biograpy he was in a movie called Johnny At the Fair and played 'Johnny'.
I spent today at the CNE and had to come watch this again. Joel and the bots fill this short with gloriously dark humour, but it is a shame that this is how a lot of Americans know about the CNE - it really is a good time!
Thanks so much for uploading this. This is awesome.
"joe hits johnny up for fifteen cents due to tax problems"
Wouldn't have been funnier if that Canuck short ended right at the time Johhny is dumped in the "Lost Children" internment center?
+Luis Reyes I wonder if there were a few leftover children in the Lost Children place when the fair finally ended.
*DID I TELL YOU TO HAVE THIS BABY?!*
"Arc de Full Retreat"..... he understands the French well.
That kid's definitely scarred for life...especially after meeting Olsen & Johnson.
Can't be less traumatizing than that run-in with the Canadian PM Mackenzie King.
Does anyone get the reference for 'I'm gonna get Joe Louis?'
CaptainLumpyDog I do. Ali said it, right?
Why can't we all meet famous people if we get lost?! This is so not fair!
And Dad makes sure Johnny hasn't wandered into any of the Beer Tents.
No problem! Glad someone found it useful! ;)
We've all been to Chemical Wonderland!
Haha, that joke wrote itself!
Wasn't that a Earth, Wind and Fire song?
"Little Johnny is no more. Because what he thought was H2O, was H2SO4."
"Then Johnny transmogrifies. He's a shapeshifter, and he breaks the fourth seal."

Best. MST3K short. ever.
@BPMontana "I gotta go horsies".
