Doing a dance routine in a televised parade while sliding through horse hockey...was a new kind of challenging: 'Now, SMILE!' 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
That episode's piece-of-filth-of-a-movie was a killer, and too boring to even enjoy, even with the riffing. Not even the guys' reactions to it helped. This episode is a nice breather though.
I have a vague memory, from when I was either six or seven [That is to say over fifty years ago] of being taken to the circus. And ending up being taken out in floods of tears. I could never remember why I got that way. Now I think I know.
My friend and I had no lives back in the 1990s, we'd go to the only restaurant that was open late just to be somewhere. They always had sports playing on the tv by our table, so we'd ask them to put on MST3K instead. Next thing you know, all the servers were sitting around us watching it. The place was empty, they were just as bored as we were. Ah....my youth wasn't a total waste, I made some more MST3K fans haha
"It's a full contact version of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf!" That statement could well lead to the single greatest stage production since Spamalot.
“Guys, can we be just a little less dark with this short, okay?” “… dark? Dark… “ The confusion is Servo’s voice gets me each time. A short this horrific (in more ways than one) is worth nothing other than a dark riffing.
Crow: And Madonna thinks she's innovative! Joel: Oh, please tell me this isn't happening! Crow: "More, more; *I'm a bad clown"!* Tom: Yes, children's windows of perception are open for only a second only to take in the horror that is the circus!
Wake n’ bake Saturday mornings in college in the 90s were the greatest! Thanks, Joel™️! Thanks, Croooow™️! Thanks, Tom Servo™️! (and thanks to The Mads™️ and Mike™️! and the rest of the Satellite of Love™️ cast and crew!) 🤘😆🤘
I mean yeah, we all love Joel and the bots, but am I crazy to think that some of the circus stunts are legitimately impressive? I grew up with MST3K but watching this short just gets me excited to watch the circus performers. Did I somehow grow 50 years older or is it good, actually?
It is neat, especially after all the hard work to get that good, There's a circus center near me and they train youths to do those stunts, from Clowning to Trapeze acts. Clowning is an art, it looks simple but there's methods to it.
Whats great about this is the real small time circus video plus the mute sound button. Circus is sacred, although still thankful to mst3000 for making it happen, and give the vid a thumbs up. Seen a few small time shows and the Barnum & Bailey big time circus several times growing up in the 60's and 70's and took my kids in the 80's .... Broke my heart when they demolished the Jacksonville Coliseum - a lifetime of memories there - they built a new fancy modern something that looks like noahs arc with a starship enterprise windshield and dashboard on it - Im sure its very nice inside - you won't catch me in it.
Children of all ages are confronted by forces they can't begin to understand! Yes, children's windows of perception are open for only a second, only to take in the horror that is the circus!
'It's Black & Beauty, the Cajun horse!' I watched the Goodies episode 'Black & White Beauty', about a pantomime horse taking part in a Grand National-type competition, recently.
@@kevinramsey417 Yeah, I have a soft spot for animals, and Catching Trouble is probably the most disturbing short MST3K has covered. My one consolation is that everyone that had anything to do with that short is likely dead.
"And here come the freaks now!" is a top ten best line from MST3K ever.
Joel constantly chastising the bots for going too far in their jokes is the best part.
"Yes, Betty swings both ways!"
"They're doing it CLOWN STYLE" 😂😂😂
Thanks, Dad, for introducing this show to me thirtyish years ago.
"More, more, I'm a bad clown!"
This bit is one of my top favorites from the entire series. Still makes me giggle after almost 30 years
“Yes, Children’s windows of perception are open for only a second, only to take in the horror that is the circus”
My favorite short. "And here comes the freaks now!"
"Aren't the horses supposed to go behind the band?"
I was in a marching band and you'd be surprised how often that doesn't happen.
Oops!
At least it's not cat poop.

One of the best shorts they ever covered. Every joke is quotable and memorable.
"HEEEEEERE COMES THE DEVIL!"
"Hey, it's Beelzebub the Clown!"
Just an episode prior, Joel was just as dark as the bots when they riffed "Circus on Ice."
nothings sadder than a gutshot fawn 😔😔😔

Joel: “It’s Emmet Kelly!”
Tom: “That’s great Joel.”
Joel: “No it really is!”
It's true, so Joel wasn't being ironic at all. The famous clown really did cameo.
"We love it when he eats!"
@@beauwalker9820 I inherited an Emmet Kelly decorative plate from my grandmother.
It depicts him eating cabbage.
Despite Emmett's apperance, he looks less insane than the other clowns.

Fear of aerial clowns doing it "clown style."
@darkwood777 Fear of aerial butt hammering
Kids shouldn't be exposed to clowns.
@@garysuarez9614Lol!
I can't lie... the acrobatics were rather impressive!
Levi's loose-fitting clown jeans!
So many riffs in this went way over my head when I first saw this as a teenager.

"Beelzebub the clown!"
The eldritch horror that is the Circus.

“Blackened Beauty the Cajun Horse” really got me. XD

"Kitties!!!" . I've said that every time Ive seen a cat for the past 30 years.
The announcer didn't credit the tigers... does he even know the difference? They're not all lions.
One a’ them maneless, stripeful lions!
I love all the moments in which the three mimick the barker!
Kitties!
He's still eating!
One of the funniest ever. I’m old enough to get the Ross Perot jokes.
Same.
We love it when he eats!
my favorite part of the circus was always the eating clowns.
Joel trying to not to laugh at the bad clown part is priceless
Bumfights started earlier than I thought!

Rapid fire riffs on this one, well underrated.

The commentary is though.
Not to mention the cruelty to animals.
