In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew unboxes, sets up and tests the X-Star Premium quadcopter from Autel Robotics. The crew begins by providing an inventory of the packaging, itself a rugged carrying case to store and transport the aircraft. This Ready-To-Fly (RTF) comes with a radio controller, lithium-polymer battery, battery charger, two full sets of propellers, a 4K digital video camera mounted on a vibration-isolated, three-axis gimbal, a 64 gigabyte Micro-SD card, spare parts and accessories, as well as documentation including a printed instruction manual. The X-Star relies on an Android or iOS smart device running the free “Starlink” app from Autel to provide a First-Person View (FPV) feed from the aircraft, as well as telemetry. During flight testing, the crew demonstrates the compass calibration procedure, the various flight modes available with the aircraft, basic maneuvers, auto-takeoff and auto-land capabilities, flight time and gimbal stability.
Please drop the "funny voices" and extra stuff you added to this video, it is distracting and lowers the production value. Makes the review feel like a joke.

I got my X-Star a couple of days ago, haven't opened the box yet... it's on my "to do" list as I also do product reviews on my channel. Thank you guys for this video, it's very informative and comprehensive. After watching this video, I feel confident enough to take mine out & fly! (of course, after I "browse" through the manual) I'm assuming the negative "Max" comments are from (I'd say") the under 30 (maybe 40ish) age group and below!!! I Loved It!!! Happy holidays guys! Thanks for the feedback... Max has engendered a "love it or hate it" response I've not seen before, with all of the other gags and pop culture references we've done over the years. Hi, will the flir vue be able to work with the x-star premium? Would it be able to mount on the gimble?
We would need for Autel (or some clever hacker) to bridge the gap between the FLIR hardware and the Autel gimbal mount. Clearly, Autel is thinking along these lines by making a quick-release gimbal in the first place, and I seem to recall having discussed the possibility of a thermal imaging payload with them at some point. In short, I can't think of any reason that wouldn't work, but somebody with the required technical know-how will need to do the integration.

I love that color... It stands out brilliantly against pretty much any background. One of many, many small but very intelligent decisions the folks at Autel Robotics made when designing the X-Star.
7 years later no support and good luck finding a battery. Autel robotics took a big dump on their early supporters. I now have a nice paper weight.

I really liked this drone by autel, by since 2018 I have sent my drone back for service #1. Pour connection for video. Then #2. I set up my drone did all the calibration when I pressed take off it went up 10 or 15 feet then went due East by it self, yes broke 2 properties.i sent it in and paid to fix it.#3. Again I did all the set calibration and sent the drone up and again it took off... broken 1 properly and crack the case and the gimbal that holds the camera. I paid to fix it. #4. I set up the drone and again it when up 10 feet and went West, heading straight into 3 people I
I pushed the Remote Controls in words. Hoping to under control the people moved and hit a car and put a big dent in the fender... so I called to Autel customer service I talked with a manager on call I expected what took place his replay was.. if you don’t use this drone for for a few months the components my malfunction and cause it to malfunction... I called Tuesday, September, 1st, 2020 at 10:42 am ph. 844.692.8835.

I luv this drone, but unlike you I do not like the fact that it doesn't stop quickly after letting up on the joystick. If you're used to other GPS drones that do stop quickly you will have to make sure that you're constantly aware that the ORANGE drone does NOT!! lol
John Candy, I thought you were - well - gone. Anywho this has (had) the potential to be the best X-Star newcomer video out there, but you ruined it with the annoying Max Headroom stuff. Once at the beginning would have been OK. But man, it's way overdone.

Good review completely ruined by over use of the Max Headroom effect. So annoying and unsure what you are trying to achieve.
Chisholm max head rum is very annoying get rid of that and then your video will be much better no one wants to see old technology being used for something new plus it's just annoying.
Horrible aliasing when you were showing the parking lot. That is totally unsat for any pro use. It is almost as bad as the Mavic

Just bought one yesterday and found this video this morning. Nicely done. One trivial question: What are the 4 black square stickers for? I'm guesing they go on the front landing gear legs...replacing what's there if needed.

You're on the right track... The character in Back to the Future 2 was actually an amalgam of President Reagan and Max Headroom, which is the character we were re-creating here. He was from a short-lived by highly influential TV show in the 1980's, whom I decided to resurrect (to the consternation of many viewers of this video) as Max Hexrotor.

do you have to have data on the phone being used or is it just connecting to the wifi if the drone
george aura with the DJI drones u have to have data to use the gps. But you can still use it without. Not sure about this

i had it 5 years ago, first flight, flew away and dropped dead 1 miles away. luckily i was able to return under warranty. since then, ONLY DJI drones!!! 👌👍

Thanks for the review. My buddy recently bought an XSP and it is a very well built machine that is sweet to fly. I have flown and really enjoyed it. May get a pumpkin myself! Autel added things to their controller that I think many people have always wished for on the Phantom controller. I for one laughed a lot at your flashback to Maxx Headroom. I know some others didn't, but I think it was a clever and funny nod to the eighties. For me the comedy made for a different review than the many others out there that are straightforward unboxing and flight reviews. That's a good thing! You can't make everybody happy!

Stating the obvious here but it looks and flies like the Phantom to me,getting away from that i really like it but at first i hated that colour,but after seeing it in the sky i can see why that colour works so well,better than the standard white we so much of these days.
Great review boys though i'm not sure about the Max Headroom parts,but i did enjoy the out takes at the end of the video especially the girl running behind Sherman. ;-)
