I've had the X star for a year. The third or fourth time I used it the drone would not respond to any commands. It was about 80 feet in the air and perhaps 50 feet away. I watched the battery level go to critical and then it failed. It crashed and caused a fair amount of damage. I called support and right away they told me to return it with a prepaid label and when they inspected it they wold get back to me. The tech told me most likely they would just send me a new one. That is what happened and it was such a delight working with a company that has great tech support. The whole process took around 3 weeks. My flying has been problem free since then.
Not so for me. They tried to get me to buy a refurb. This is the Autel Evo too. They wouldn't replace mine. They told me it malfunctioned from a minor crash I had five flights before the last one.
It's end of June 2017 and I've had mine since end of November 2016. This drone is a work horse. I use it for real estate videos and I've had two crashes due to operator error and no damage other than needing replacement props. Easy to use, incredible video and stills. If you get this, get the Skyreat signal boosters on Amazon. It will cut down your VI warnings and increase your range.
Hey Dave, 100% correct mate. This thing is the best I have owned by far. (had 3 DJi phantoms ...all gone now) Love this thing to death. The camera is sensational. Good honest review.
Hey there Jah, glad it was useful! I have had a really great experience with my Autel X-Star Premium, excellent camera and super durable. It will definitely take a little abuse. Happy flying!
Have you checked out xiaomi mi?? Its sub $500 with a 4k camera and crazy range! I too am looking for my very first drone and it's up to this and the xiaomi mi
I'm glad that I found you. As soon as I saw the Heli I knew you can help. What is the transition like coming from flying a Thunder Tiger Raptor 60 and Kyosho Concept 60? Also it's March 2018, should I still be looking at buying this drone or I should be looking elsewhere? Thanks.
CAVE man .. as of 30th May 2017 ... I am planning to buy a drone around 700 to 800 ... would you recommend the Spark (not officially out on sale un 15th June) or did you find a great alternative drone since ???
If you love the x star you are going to love the EVO . The x star is my favorite drone I have 10 high end drones. You made a great choice. I have 75 + hours on my x star. Great video!!
It was an awesome dorne for me, I really loved it. Super durable and the camera quality was great! The only problem I had with it had to do with eh batteries, the lipos degraded very quickly and became unreliable below 50%, and I almost lost it on many occasions due to forced landings.
They are also going to release new camera modules for all their old and new drones, and to me, that shows their genuine loyalty towards us customers. My XSP is solid as a rock when flying in some strong winds on mountain tops, sometimes even when the drone itself is shaky as hell in unflyable winds, the footage captured by the camera is still rock steady. I can't wait to buy the bigger sensor camera module.

Oh yes, I know also my wife always asks how many models I still want to buy :))
Sir all i have one word for you. THANK YOU. BEST OF THE BEST REVIEWS. I am done with those fake ass models showing off and talking drones and dont know shit about them. Sorry about my language here. I am trying to find this to pick too.
Thanks for the great review! I have been researching drones for a month now and have narrowed it down to the Mavic Pro vs this Autel. I really want to take my drone on vacations so your comment about taking it on an airplane really helps. They have one at out local Best Buy which is where I first heard of this drone. I do really like the case. The customer service reputation they have really appeals to me as well.
Great review Jason...very clear and concise! I've been looking at buying a drone for a while...but I'm very green and don't know a whole lot about them. Your rationale for why you purchased this drone is sound and similar to my beliefs...your review was just what I needed! Thanks!!
Awesome review my friend, you've done an awesome job reviewing all the specs of the quad. And once again, WOW !!! Your location is just breathtaking !!!!
Well Jason this was just the video I was looking for and what a thorough one it was I must say. OK I'm sold! I'm glad I waited so long to get a good quality drone and you have helped make up my mind my friend! All the features you have mentioned are awesome!
Well presented review. Does your drone automatically return home when the battery reaches 30%? Also do Android tablets work as well as Apple(DJI drones appear to favour Apple)? Mike in Oz
Thank you for getting back to me so fast!!!!! Now, should i buy it know, or wait till they come out with all the new neet stuff. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you think!!! Thanks,Steve
When you lost RC signals those few times, how far was the drone from the controller (& you)? Was distance the issue, ie, antenna maybe, power line EMF, or something else you can put your finger on?
@@colibrifpv so it was far enough away from you, you couldn't see it and that's about where it lost connection if I'm translating your reply? Return to home still worked right so nothing to worry about as long as you make sure you have gps on everything before flying away.
I had a DJI Phantom 3 ordered but canceled it after reading negative reviews about their customer support. I decided on the x star premium finally. Before ordering it I called the support line just to see if I could get through, and someone, not a voice prompt menu, answered the phone right away. I'm hoping at some point they will come out with a folding drone to make it more compact for traveling. Its good working with a company that stands behind their product.
I would upgrade just for the obstacle avoidance feature. I fly mostly in lower altitudes where there are lots of trees and I have had a few near misses.
awesome bro! i love orange color too , ejejej this quad looks awesome. enjoy it alot :) can wait to see more thinks about.. the camera looks awesome. big like up in here
That's so great to hear!!! Autel is the underdog to DJI (obviously) and they really do make a great product once you give it a chance. Personally, I own a DJI Mavic Air and an X-Star Premium, both of which have hundreds of flights on them, and when I think about upgrading, the Autel Evo really has a strong case.. currently $999 at Adorama, no tax, with the on teh go bundle (3 batteries + case), while the DJI Mavic 2 is some $1400 or the M2P is some $1700.... I'm literally itching tto pull the trigger as I write this, waiting for a great Black Friday Sale..which would you go for??
Just bought and paid for mine, I read tons and tons of reviews, I didn't like what I was hearing on the DJI units, The only one comparable was the DJI Phantom 3. And I picked this one. I'm never one to be about "I want this one because everyone else has it!" I'm about reading what users have to say. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Phantom 3, I believe doesn't do Way Points. plus, I just bought this brand new for $699.00 and 35 bucks shipping! BOOM!
I've been flying a DJI Mavic (first drone) for about a week..love the damn thing. But I really wanted the Autel as well so its on its way. Should have it by next Thur. One of the selling point for me is that great customer support reputation they have developed. Although I bought the Mavic I dread having to deal with them someday.
Hi friend, good review, I have Phantom 3 and 4 but I find very good equipment as an alternative for price. The landscapes of the shots where are they? Thank you
Quedo atento. Buen dia
Better then a Dji! I have a inspire and a m100 my inspire flew it self into tree and my m100 fell out of the sky!! Also u can change the gimbals on Dji drones btw
What interchangeable gimbals on a DJI? That is total BS. I own 4 DJI's and each has its own camera and gimbal except for the older P2's with different gimbals for the Hero 3 and 4. Otherwise you buy a different drone for a different camera.Only Yuneec and Autel have interchangeable gimbals and cameras when they finally release some more cameras.
Not related to the drone specifically, but where was this video taken, because the landscape looks exotic and beautiful! Perfect for your review :) thanks for all the info and links for accessories, this is GREAT!
I don't have one yet, I have an older Phantom I will be getting rid of and have been looking around at which drone gives the best price to performance ratio these days. as a replacement. I'm looking for top features, without going over $1000.00 USD. This XStar looks like it cannot be beat for the cost
Something that nobody ever mentions, is this x star will fly anywhere. By that I mean that I am within five miles of KRKD airport. I fly with permission from the airport with minor restrictions.(Stay below 200ft and out of landing/takeoff zones) I know two people personally that bought DJI Phantoms without doing their research only to find that they can't off the ground. I called DJI before I bought the x star to find out how to get around this. They said I could get a form completed by the airport granting me permission. I then had to get that to them. After who knows how long, (DJI support) they would unlock the phantom for speific time and length. No, they would not unlock it period/end of problem. But you would have to dothis each and everytime!!!! So yeah, X Star for me! :-)
***** that is exactly how I feel. The only advantage the Mavic has is the collision avoidance and size but all the little drones I have flown inside the house has been fine for me and I haven't hit anything with them so I'm sure outside is way easier. The problem with 3DR isn't producing or supporting the consumer market and only looking into the prosumer. I had a question to Autel and got an answer in less then an hour. I had some questions on live streaming and they responded with "we are currently working on it". So far, I'm happy with their support and the x-star looks like a clear winner for me.
Hi, have you or any of your subscribers had issues with the X Star not hovering. Have tried everything. It is deifinately not in ATII mode as some have sugeested. Any ideas guys?
So it does fly, but it's wandering, i.e., not holding position? It has to have something to to with GPS, couldn't say without more information. You should definitely try contacting Autel's support, they are known for being really great.
Well, first of all, I wouldn't use fpv goggles. Perhaps you should use your phone with the Autel app, or if you want to take it to the next level. the Dji Crystal Sky, which is wat I use. If you really want to use traditional fpv goggles, I would suggest the sky sky02c, a great value for a mid range fpv goggle at around $250. Best of luck to you, and thanks for stopping by, hope you subscribe!
Hi, this drone is not for sale in Europe? when I look for it : Dit is niet de Premium versie! De premium versie mag in Europa niet verkocht worden vanwege de Video link frequentie van 902 MHz~928 MHz. De X-Star met 4K camera : the video link is not alowed🙄
Honestly I haven't had much of a problem with video lag, though I have had weak reception and green break up on screen at times. I'll update if that changes.
Like the review...do u know ,on Ebay, why he white colored is usd 150 less than the orange..??..seem to come with the same gear...maybe i`m missing something..
Thank u very much for clearing that up, Premium or not,...not every time i understand what text say, and not everyu they say what`s needed. Too bad i can`t by it in Norway though, would be better i think come to support...we`ll see...also thinking Mavic Pro cause it`s foldable..and i can by at local store, but EXPENCIEVE..he he...so far just a dream...For now i fly With you Jason..thank you for information..
Aaaahhaa...good for u and for us who`s watching your vids..he he...but be careful, dogs can be trained for most things, so don`t " take in " more than one a year..ha ha..
This model, the X-Star Premium, is more expensive than the Phantom 4 in Australia?? Maybe the P4 is available at really good cost since the P4Pro knocked the price down? I love my Autel, and I would take this over any Phantom 3, but honestly, the P4 or a mavic Pro may be a better drone for the money, if pricing is the same. This drone is absolutely solid, well built, and will take abuse, but the software is not as advanced as DJI's. Good luck with it!
I can't say exactly other than that this drone has loads of thrust, and so would not have trouble lifting some extra weight, although I'm sure it's designed to carry the intended payload, i.e. camera/gimbal. Something like an action camera or 360 camera should not be a problem though.
Well obviously the Autel customer service can't be matched. Dji is a nightmare dealing with if something does go wrong with the drone. The phantom 4 or P4P is a better all around drone. No denying that. It flies faster, further and as more to offer. But again Autel as great CS so I'm not trashing them. Hell because there CS is so good I just might buy one.
The RC Cave absolutely. People will start to go to the company that gives great customer service. I think that will hurt dji in the future. Things always go wrong with these things and the last thing u want to have to do is fight with the company. Autel customer service is impeccable. And I think that will help them big time competing with a power house like dji. Dji is a bit more ahead, but in the end I think customer service will be the deal maker for Autel. Happy Flying bud
wait tell you have to deal with them on warranty took 3 days to get back with me then the guy act like it was the worst thing in the world to replace my battery that was bad in the box
I have not been able to fly mine yet I just received a email with a ups # maybe I well be able to fly it next week. And on my box it said 24 7 customer support and it's not there support 7 days 8 am to 6 pm PST . From what I understand these batteries are very very hard to take care of
These are new to me been doing a lot of reading up on them it's been long time since I have flown even RC planes I used to have eight planes and fly everu weekend now that I have retired I have time to pursue this new Adventure I have had a couple of the toy drones and played with them but this is my first professional drone
DJI just discontinued 70% of their product line stranding a million customers with batteries and controllers that have no upgrade or replacement path. This philosophy of destroying your investment and making you start over will never end.... DO NOT INVEST IN THE MAVIC either... buy a bunch of proprietary batteries that will die with the product. I just bought a P3 advanced last week... this week its discontinued. Do yourself a favor and try an AUTEL X STAR
I promise you will come to regret this purchase lol all those cons will eventually cost you your drone... I had the same mindset and bought the autel but two lost drones one due to a flyaway caused by the interference you described and another caused when the battery dropped by 30% in ten seconds causing it to auto land over water. Yes autel is great customer service wise ... but think about why... They are a new company with an inferior product with many bugs. So they have had much practice in the customer support area and have to be good at it to keep customers... I loved it while I had it until those issues cost me 2 drones first autel was nice enough to replace the second they offered a discount replacement which I denied and bought a dji instead which is way more reliable thus far. Autel seems great but I'd wait for another generation or two of product before purchasing another one
The RC Cave I had my x star for a total of 15 days between the two of them...it's absolutely horrible luck and in my opinion autel needs to jump on the bandwagon with redundant sensors like in the newer dji products to give an extra layer of security... also lipo battery's are a lil funny but such a large drop is not acceptable when it's new and all battery health shows good. As far as what I purchased it is the DJI Mavic Pro and it is in my opinion on a whole other level in every category no interference issues range is as advertised when out in the open away from things... actually the drone will most likely want to come home before losing signal due to disconnect just because of battery life ... but I would never advise flying it 4.3 miles away anyway. The precision landing with rth is amazing and will land you within inches of your takeoff spot providing you do it correctly... stability is absolutely amazing even in pretty gusty winds no and flying indoors or in very light wind it will not move at all but stay in place like it is permanently stuck lol camera quality is amazing as well tho I do think the x star has better camera in low light / night time flying
Also you can follow me on instagram @courageous_photos that is where I post all my drone photos that I have taken with the 4 drones I've owned and tried and each photo says which drone I've used to take the picture
Worst drone ever . Impossible to calibrate the compass. It looks nice and I have every accessory you could imagine for it but it's never flown because it's never been able to get the Compass calibrated and their customer service is useless.
Autel has awesome support, they also replaced some faulty batteries for me without question. Glad it worked out for you!
Not so for me. They tried to get me to buy a refurb. This is the Autel Evo too. They wouldn't replace mine. They told me it malfunctioned from a minor crash I had five flights before the last one.
You work for dji
Autel is irrelevant. Total lack of support by choosing not to manufacture flight batteries
This drone is the best I receive mine yesterday then I flied it in the sky and the video quality is so great ..
Hey Dave, 100% correct mate. This thing is the best I have owned by far. (had 3 DJi phantoms ...all gone now) Love this thing to death. The camera is sensational. Good honest review.
About to pick up a used one today can’t wait this video made my mind up thanks
Hey there Jah, glad it was useful! I have had a really great experience with my Autel X-Star Premium, excellent camera and super durable. It will definitely take a little abuse. Happy flying!
Have you checked out xiaomi mi?? Its sub $500 with a 4k camera and crazy range! I too am looking for my very first drone and it's up to this and the xiaomi mi
Did you end up going with Xiaomi? How has it fared over the years?
I'm glad that I found you. As soon as I saw the Heli I knew you can help.
What is the transition like coming from flying a Thunder Tiger Raptor 60 and Kyosho Concept 60?
Also it's March 2018, should I still be looking at buying this drone or I should be looking elsewhere?
Thanks.

This is a great video. I really hope Autel releases the new cameras! Still waiting on those Autel!!!!
Really glad to find this awesome review. I was ready to jump on the DJI bandwagon until I read about their horrible customer support.
Really disappointed to find that this drone is discontinued. :(
I'm wondering if they missed the boat on the Evo. Mavic Air might put Autel out of business.
The video is fantastic, with magnificent landscapes. That drone is great
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
***** Yessss Brother cool
Thank you for getting back to me so fast!!!!! Now, should i buy it know, or wait till they come out with all the new neet stuff.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you think!!!

I've been flying mine all winter. It's braved stiff wind and -20C cold here in AK.
When you lost RC signals those few times, how far was the drone from the controller (& you)? Was distance the issue, ie, antenna maybe, power line EMF, or something else you can put your finger on?
Mostly losing direct line of sight more than actual distance or interference

Excellent review , very good quad and nice video !!
Hello, um... Just asking : do they include extra batteries? How many? And how much do the batteries cost?
awesome bro! i love orange color too , ejejej this quad looks awesome. enjoy it alot :) can wait to see more thinks about.. the camera looks awesome. big like up in here
What is lift complicity?I looking to used it for fish bait casting. 🤙🏼
All your fault!!! lol. I recently purchased one and you are correct, I love it more than my Phantom 4. Thanks for your help!!

Your pictures are less static than your last video... great ! your country looks fantastic ! thumbs up
But...your last footage was good ! And.. we can see our progression videos after videos ! Sometimes it's fun to look back !
Hi friend, good review, I have Phantom 3 and 4 but I find very good equipment as an alternative for price. The landscapes of the shots where are they? Thank you

The flying Pumpkin!
Wow Jason! That is nice! I'd like to try a drone one day! Great review!😉👍
Lol! Well, that does sound fun!😉
Do you have an android phone? Or iPhone, do you have expierience with both phones connecting to this drone?
Does seem to work well and DJI have got expensive. But in the UK not worth the hassle of owning one as the Law has clamped down a lot on drones.
They are taking about having licences here and we do have any free land as that's all owned by councils. But a few bad eggs do spoil it for the rest.
Can the controller be changed to mode 1 ?
Where is it made?
Is the latest firmware out yet?
thanks for the info guys!
Spot on. Good job. I bought mine for every reason you stated. Feel free to check out latest video. Thanks.
Good vid really helpful
Good review
cool video
idk why but these are more expensive than dji phantom 4 in Australia
This model, the X-Star Premium, is more expensive than the Phantom 4 in Australia?? Maybe the P4 is available at really good cost since the P4Pro knocked the price down? I love my Autel, and I would take this over any Phantom 3, but honestly, the P4 or a mavic Pro may be a better drone for the money, if pricing is the same. This drone is absolutely solid, well built, and will take abuse, but the software is not as advanced as DJI's. Good luck with it!
Payload capacity?
Happy Flying bud
greaz review, thanks for sharing
:-D
you are addicted ;-)
We really know this feeling
wait tell you have to deal with them on warranty took 3 days to get back with me then the guy act like it was the worst thing in the world to replace my battery that was bad in the box
Ok thanks for the tips
Has anyone used this drone in Europe?
LOL @2:25 she starts to book it because she thinks she's gonna get hit XDDD
It is literally just a copy of DJI, something between PH3 Pro and P4.
Do yourself a favor and try an AUTEL X STAR
good video but you are useing terrible camera settings
It is not a toy.... it is a real drone😁
Ecuadorian undies he said.
I am 900$ poor
Worst drone ever . Impossible to calibrate the compass. It looks nice and I have every accessory you could imagine for it but it's never flown because it's never been able to get the Compass calibrated and their customer service is useless.
