    Interesting fact
    The filmmakers were afraid that the little girl would be afraid of Boriss in makeup. Turns out she was quite taken with him and, in fact requested to ride to the shooting location with him.

    • @h.calvert3165
      @h.calvert3165 3 года назад +235

      Both animals & children adored Boris. A friend of his invited him to a houseparty, warning her staff not to tell her little girl who he was, as she was afraid the child would be frightened. She got busy with her preparations, & Boris arrived unannounced. When she finally went looking for her daughter, she found her settled on Boris's lap, while he read to her. Later, she cautiously asked the child, "Did you like Mr. Karloff?" The little girl explained, "Oh, yes! And it's not just because he's so beautiful!" 📚
      Other friends had a huge German shepherd, which was so savage that it would scarcely let anyone outside of the family into the house. When Boris visited, it spent the whole time with its head in his lap, while he skritched behind its ears. After Boris had died, the dog's mom heard him raising an awful commotion in the living room one day. When she walked in to see what was wrong, she found that the television had been left on, & an old movie of Boris's was playing. The dog was going frantic trying to break into the cabinet to get to his old friend. 📺
      Check out his (grown-up) friend Cynthia Lindsay's book, Dear Boris, for many other such anecdotes! ☕

    The scene with the little girl is my favorite horror movie scene of all time. It’s so tragic because he doesn’t even truly understand what he’s capable of, doesn’t truly understand death, and kills the first and only friend he has. It wasn’t a murder. It was an accident. And a tragedy for both characters and the father. To me this movie isn’t a horror film, but a tragedy in which the monster is a victim

It think the movie scene because he's already faced people hurting them, so adds another layer to his character! But that also shows his humanity and that he cares for others due to the fact that he saves her, and then gets harmed for doing the right thing. Thanks for the info! The monster is the most misunderstood horror movie “villain.” Mary Shelley does a good job in having on examine their ideas and it’s a great philosophical book. One of the biggest questions of the book is “Who is the real monster?” The monster could have been a normal (though he’s actually quite smart and philosophical) person but the disgust and fear others have towards the Monster infuriate him. The story comes out to you realizing that the true monster of the story was Frankenstein himself and humanity as a whole. ALSO FUN FACT: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is actually considered one of the first science fiction books.

      His appearance being ugly is also debatable, as we only get described what he looks like by people who are afraid and repulsed by him. Victor Frankenstein even says he build the creature out of the most beautiful parts he could find. Fascinatingly, people have different views on what he must’ve looked like based on their views on the book. I heavily emphasise with his feelings of loneliness and frustration, and therefore view him as just a really tall guy with weirdly coloured skin and scars all over. To me, he’s just another person who got dealt a shitty hand. But I also know people who do imagine him looking like a monster, because they view him AS a monster because of his actions later in the book.
      Idk I’ve always thought the interpretation of his appearance has been interesting.

      Yeah, that is true. Especially since it's about as accurate as calling Victor by his last name. In the books especially the monster is basically born a baby in a hulking, adult body who can't speak and doesn't know much about the world around it. It's basically Victor's child, like you said and calling it Frankenstein would be like using it's last name, like how we do with Victor

Have you ever heard of a thing called a Defibrillator? You know, when you doctors bring you back from cardiac arrest (Which is basically death) using an electric shock?? The electric shock literally recharges your cardiovascular system and gets it pumping again. Your brain waves are electric charges. If you could get those brain waves moving again, then you could make the body functioning again. It's like recharging a battery.

    Technically the monster is kind of Victors son so calling it Frankenstein is accurate enough cuz it's the last name, I'll die on this hill 😂

    Let's face it.
    We all thought we were the smartest people ever, when we learned Frankenstein was the doctor not the monster

      The reason Mary Shelley was listed as mrs Percy b Shelley is because that’s her husband, romantic(of the romantic era, not the Valentine’s Day stuff) poet Percy blouse shelley

    I have read the original book and it turns out where it ends with the Creature asks for a wife. Elizabeth was his adopted sister, and “Henry” was named Victor Frankenstein. The book is dark but lovely to read
