Here's a very bad summary:
They filmed the Character on a black background.
Then they gathered the footage, somehow removed the background and slotted the character in an already recorded background, or in this case, parts of the Character.

My grandfather was terrified of this movie. The line that always stuck out to him is the line where the invisible man describes how even having a speck of dirt under his nails, his entire ruse is up. It shows his insanity very well.

The whole story about the actor who didn’t like the face mold because he was gassed in WW1 really shook me up a bit, it’s it nice to see that at least some of the men who suffered those horrors were able to live good lives in Hollywood and on the stage. “Lest we forget”

Griffin in the book is terrifying. He's filled with hate, brilliant, tramatized, egotistical, and he's super strong. He's a great villain on his own, but being invisible on top of that is insane.
I read the book just this year and he seemed borderline sociopathic
Yeah in the film they give him a bit of sympathy by heavily implying that he wasn't bad at first, but was driven insane by the chemicals he used (and he didn't know it would happen).
In the book, he's a monster from the get go. The new film is closer to the book in that regard.

He uses a really catchy tune to get the town singing where the chorus is "Monorail, monorail, monoraaaaail!" the rest of the song is people bringing up their objections as the con man gives reasons why they shouldn't worry and accept how great it would be.
Long story short, (and spoilers) con man sells springfield a shotty monorail, almost destroys town.
I actually was just thinking like, "I'm not that old." but I just looked it up, the episode is Marge vs. the Monorail and came out in 1993. I'm young enough to say I was only a year old and didn't catch the original airing of the episode but one of the many reruns over the years the simpsons was popularly watched.

I love it when you can tell James is just having a lot of legitimate fun without him needing to tell you how entertaining the movie is. Roasting the scenes with the best of respect and admiring the behind the scenes magic. It's amazing to me that green screen effects existed in the 30s in the form of black screen instead.

You know what's more bizarre? Our grandpas are the last people who experienced the old world, the real world..
This was always my favorite of the classic '30s horror films. It's amazing how well it still holds up today, thanks to Rains' performance, some still-impressive visuals, and its clever mix of horror and dark comedy.
I've got to admit, the special effects really are impressive, even by today's standards.

Technically the top 50 oldest people at the moment range from 112 to 117, but I don't think any of them were in the movie, so I'd say anyone from this movie who was 25 years old or younger at the time MAY potentially still be alive.... course, I'm talking extras and stuff... all the older people and stars are definitely gone.

If I had seen that film in 1933, I would believe the producers to be wizards. I can't imagine how it would be to experience those special effects for the first time. For the time it was made, the effects are insane. Truly a legendary film.

The effects in this are INSANE for the time! I feel like this would be my "train coming at the camera" movie were I alive back then. I would think this was just plain MAGIC.

And the Invisible Man in the 1st sequel is played by the legendary Vincent Price. Who is hands down my favourite horror actor.

When I was in the shower several weeks ago, I came up with a realization. That realization being that In truth, unless this guy showered hourly, despite even that being a bit iffy, this wouldn't work in the real world. Even if the sweat residue and bodily oils his skin excretes is invisible as well, that wouldn't stop dirt particles, pollens, humidity moisture, and everything else that's in the air, all around, and wherever you go from sticking to it all rendering him visible.
Also, have you ever walked on a dirt path barefoot? The dirt sticks to your oily sweaty feet like nothing else. The bottoms of his feet would betray his presence at every second.
Ummm he actually wouldve been stopped by the fact that being invisible would render him blind. Seriously. His light couldn't perceive light and he would immediately go blind.
