    Fwiw, 02 sequoia gets better oil pressure at idle (600 rpm) with the mobil1 vs the K&N.

  • @mikebennett703

    Mobil barely wins by a fender because it has more media. The K&N looks like it will flow better so that might be a good choice for cold weather start up. Both appear to suffer from the lack of attention to detail I mentioned on the Summit video. Sloppy glue, some gaps in the pleats are uneven, thin cans, glued seam vs. metal crimp. I have learned alot from watching Whip's videos. I would have never known about any of this including the differences in quality between the brands. Credit for genuinely being able to choose the best oil filter goes to Whip and his efforts to make these awesome videos! 👍💪🔥

    I recently bought the Mobile 1 filter to use with the mobile 1 synthetic oil I run in my truck. It doesn’t look like is a dimes’ worth of difference in the two filters. If one was out of stock, I’d use the other.

    Wow, I was searching for a comparison between the 2 different brands recently, found your video, and you just happened to use the same Mobil 1 application number M1-212A which my vehicle uses. You did a great job and a very thorough inspection of each and quality wise I wouldn't hesitate to use either. I was wanting to do an oil change soon and found the Mobile 1 in stock while not the K&N (no doubt thanks to the current supply chain shortages) at my local Walmart for nearly the same exact price which made my decision making choice easier. Thanks for your very technical observations and video!

    Ill stick with the K&N filter! I run it on a modified hemi motor and oil always comes out decently clean every 4-5k. Others no so much!
    Theres NO way ill ever use a fram filter, i respect my motor more and fram is junk! Ive seen more issues with fram at the shop i work at than any pther 2 filters combined!
    Not many use a spring in the bottom anymore, so i use the best flow and filtration for my 4-5k intervals with full synthetic oil. My engine sees high rpm alot and K&N is the only cheap and reliable filter ive used in almost 3 decades of experience.

    This is a tough one! I do like the threads on the K&N. The larger holes are a plus. The media seems the same but K&N has less. K&N has always been built for good oil flow. Can is thicker too. I would go with the K&N but they are close.

  • @michaelchueh

    You can’t go wrong with these two. I chose Mobil 1 many years ago and do oil changes every 3-4,000 miles. I wouldn’t let my oil filters go to 15-20k though. In the end, use what you can afford and change frequently. If your car is old or hasn’t been care of, consider using liqui moly engine flush, and a high quality oil like penzoil ultra platinum, and add a lubricant additive!

    Hey Pete, I just started watching some of your videos the past few days after I read about the motorcraft fl820s having tears and rips inside them on Bob is the oil guy forum. So now I've lost faith in one of my favorite filters. So I went to Walmart yesterday and grabbed the K&N silver SO2010 model off the shelf since it cross referenced with the FL820s. I looked this K&N filter over a great deal but one thing I found was that this model has a plastic inner core that the media wraps around. The KN silvers Im seeing being taken apart all over RUclips show a steel inner core for the media to wrap around. So I find this a big let down and a bit confusing. I was hoping you could do a comparison of the Motorcraft FL820S to the KN silver, Mobil 1, and Fram Ultra equivalent oil filters from Walmart. I would love to see if the KN silver 2010 model you grab also has a plastic inner core. Why would KN skimp out on the 2010 model like this? I was hoping to find the next best alternative to the fl820s filter and it appears it might be the Mobil 1 or Fram XG2. I even looked at the equivalent Super tech oil filters for the FL820S and both the 10k version and the 20k version both skimp out on something. The 10k skimps out with cardboard endcaps and the 20k skimps out with a plastic inner core like the KN silver does. Nobody can seem to make a good comparison to the FL820s filter unless you pay $10-$15 for one which is strange since the Motorcraft is $3.50🤦🏻‍♂️. Anyway I'm subscribing to your channel because I find it interesting what you do with the oil filters.

I’ve tried different oils and the Amsoil holds up better than any with the heat a big air cooled VTwin produces. I was changing it every 2-2,500 with Mobile 1 bc it turned black and thinned out. The Amsoil runs cooler and looks better at the 4-4,500 when I change it. I do change the filters every 2k. I find ways to spend money on my bikes, that’s what the wife says anyway.

      🌴I like the width of the inlet holes for way better oil flow.Cold weather the oil is going to flow hot weather the oil is going to flow better.Ya know the real extra trick which one continues to filter longer.You check the flow rate comparisons but I know the K&N will out flow the others.But still bringing up heat the black glue may let go especially in the summer in traffic.These are a couple of areas I'd like to see them working and where they fail.🌭But... for a heads up the K&N is being counterfeited so you know to check that out there will be a difference in the size of the holes they'll be smaller and more of them compared to an original K&N oil filter.Fram is got some goodies I was interested into Peak performance parts they had a synthetic filter media but haven't seen them but that was way back when that was new.Amsoil is a good spot to check out super big time.Working with a bypass set up is incredible definitely worth your time but for getting oil to where it's gotta go K&N.👌Kewl Channel I like it keep it up my man.Also ... . spicy chicken tenders from Popeyes is goud.🆒

    I'm not impressed with either one, given their reputations and the advertising that these are both premium filters. I've seen Mobil 1 filters cut open that had sloppy crimps, torn or discolored media and even rust inside! K&N media looks like cardboard paper and no backing meche. Maybe I'm being too critical but definitely would not go pass 5K miles with either filter...wouldn't use either one. At least you got them for 10 bucks at Walmart. I'm sure they're 4 or 5 dollars more at auto parts stores unless they're on sale.

      @@davidwhite2011 The Mann filter and the Summit filter that Whip recently checked out were both nice filters IMO. I typically use Wix or Wix XP or the equivalent NAPA Platinum made by Wix. Recently I've been using a Purolator Boss filter on my Honda Civic as it's much better made than the Honda OEM which is the low end Honeywell/Fram. I'm liking the Purolator Boss more and more. But now, Mann+Hummel owns Wix, Purolator and Mann filters so I hope they don't get rid of some of the unique characteristics of each brand and try to blend them all into one.
      I also still use the OEM filter on my 2007 Toyota Tacoma which is made by Denso. It's a good quality filter and I believe that Whip has analyzed Toyota or Denso filters in the past. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

    I would not use a filter that has the bypass valve located in the leaf spring. All you've got is a metal to metal interface between the leaf spring and the open end cap of the filter element. What kind of seal is that when you've got 40psi of oil pressure? I'd be willing to bet some unfiltered oil is leaking past there. Same reason I would not use a filter that has a modular bypass valve located at the top of the filter. Metal to metal interface there too. An upper bypass valve should be made into the filter end cap. No seal and leakage issues with that.

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  2 года назад

      I like the upper/dome end bypass valve also (the ones like the Motorcraft have).
      But if you look at them upper bypass valves there's a spring in there also and it's a metal-to-metal contact. the only way to have a perfect seal is if there was some kind of gasket involved.
      But in all reality, as much oil that would probably go through there is very little.
      Something to think about though🤔 Thanks for sharing!👍

    • @Gary7even
      @Gary7even 2 года назад +1

      @@WhipCityWrencher True. And some filters (like Fram's XG series) have a gasket on the end cap for the interface with the leaf spring. As for the upper (baseplate end) bypass valves, it might be worth tearing into one of those to see if there actually is some sort of seal in there other than a metal to metal interface.

I still do my own maintenance work and that’s how I found your channel.
    The Mobil One filter you used is the same one that fits on my vehicle and I was wondering if it was really worth the money, I mean I have been using them along with the same oil for years but with the economy being in the crapper thanks to the Communist REGIME currently occupying the White House money is extremely tight for those of us on a fixed income and I didn’t want to spend the money on it if it wasn’t worth it.
