Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter. Protects for up to 1 year or 20,000 miles when used with fully synthetic motor oil. This is a high efficiency and high capacity oil filter. 99% efficiency rating is based on removing particles greater than 30 microns. Heavy duty canister with stands 9x the normal system operating pressure. Enhanced nitrile gasket remains pliable to prevent leaks. Steel center tube for added internal strength. Synthetic blend media keeps oil cleaner and holds more dirt.
Fram Titanium oil filter. 20,000 mile protection when used with fully synthetic motor oil. Total grip surface. Metal screen back. Synthetic media blend. 99% efficiency rating for particles greater than 20 microns.

Thanks for making this! I usually run Mobil 1 oil and filters but due to supply chain BS and the fact that so many trucks on the road run a Mobil 1 M1-212a filter, I couldn’t find one locally. Parts guy reassured me that the new Fram filters are not the junk that they used to be so I ended up coming home with one. About to change my oil and was really second guessing the decision but this video is exactly what I needed to see to give me some reassurance.

What you fellas don't realize it that the same rules apply to HVAC filters in your furnace. The smaller the microns a filter can filter, the lower the airflow or in this case, the oil flow will make it through and clog up faster and need to be changed more often. The difference between 20 and 30 microns can be a lot of flow and not even able to be seen by the human eye. The media material and amount of surface area is far more important as long as it can flow well and get changed often enough that they do not clog. Oil flow and decent filtration of 20-30 is beyond plenty. But extended oil changes are barely worth it when a jug of the best Synthetic oil and a high end filter is less than $50 every 5000, 7500 or 10,000 miles that is designed for by your vehicle manufacture. Amsoil is clearly number 1, with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Valvoline Advanced, and all the high mileage versions have the best additive packages making them the better choice. Plus there are only 3-4 oil filter manufactures to their specifications including OEM's. In the end, engines are expensive, oil is affordable insurance. Chances are that you won't own the car for more than a small portion of it's life. Most people don't care about about spending money to keep an engine clean for the future owner, so it might in fact last longer, again why do you care? Unless you are a professional racer and pushing it to maximum for it's life before they rebuild or replace the engine after races.

I don't like the plastic bypass valve Fram uses (I won't buy a oil filter with any plastic in it), and I like the extra pleats like on the Mobile 1 and other filters. Nice video. Actually, as has been said below, the Mobile 1 uses a synthetic blend media. They are both high quality oil filters. It pains me to say this, but for me, the Fram looks a bit better then the Mobile 1. As for the 20k mile rating? That's just marketing BS. Only a fool would use any oil filter for 20K duration. OMG How many dam filters can Fram make? :) I am amazed the Fram Platinum filtered down to 20 Microns for its 99% and the Mobil 1 was only 30 Microns! That is huge! I know the Fram Ultra synthetic is only 30 microns! I have used Mobil 1 and Wix Xp for several years. Its good to know Fram has stepped up their game finally. The Mobil 1 has way more square inches of filter material just look at thee pleat count. The Fram looks to be much thicker media and has the wire backing. Which will hold more debris? Who knows. If they would use the thicker can and end cap they would be equal in my opinion. I'm sure they are both really a good filter. Thanks for thee review!

You make no clear reasoning for Mobil on track. Is it the slightly thicker outer wall? Is it the greater particle pass-through? If it were me, I’d fold-over 4 layers of aluminium foil over the top, 4 layers around the cylinder, and then repeat in the same order, with a couple layers of duct tape. I prefer the tighter filtration of the Fram.

Great video. Agree 100%. The micron difference is minimal both are great. I like that fram has the wire mesh backing. It's a nice xtra feature that 99% of the time won't matter. However if that mesh saves just one engine it's worth it to the Fram brand name. Nothing damages a filters reputable name more than catastrophic failure. Synthetic oil is expensive and shouldn't have to be dumped and swapped every 3k. That's where these amazing filters come into play, allowing 7.5k or even 12k oil changes. What normal person has the time or money to change oil every 3k? Plus it's a waste of money to dump a good synthetic at 3k. Match the oil to the filter to get the most out of both.

Amsoil filters are almost $20 each and that's before tax and shipping. They are made by Champion Labs. For $10 you can get the Fram Ultra Synthetic at Walmart and it has the same capabilities. If you're stupid enough to go 20,000 miles between oil changes, that is.

There are plenty of videos showing Fram Ultra beating out Royal Purple and Mobil One oil filters (both the RP and M1 are made in the same factory... similar components.)
Same with Royal Purple oil... it just can't compare to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Amsoil. Mobil one isn't even in the same league lol.
Hype?? That's what overpriced Royal Purple is best at imo.
