THANK YOU, for so much good information!! It is so great to hear doctors interested in preventive/functional medicine vs just prescribing medicines. You are actually looking into the root causes so that the condition can hope to be corrected vs just treating symptoms. Love that!!
My Family Med doctor tested my ferritin (iron) level a year and a half ago because I have been chronically anemic and she was considering iron supplementation. Well, it was a surprise to find my ferritin level was at least 4X more than normal (897)! So I had the genetic test for hemochromatosis and indeed, I've got that genetic mutation.
After that she tested my folate and vitamin B12 levels. Folate was normal (>24). Vitamin B12 was high (">2000"). I was taking a B12 supplement every day (5,000 mcg as methylcobalamin). I stopped taking that on my own when I got the results, with my md's knowledge.
NOW I am wondering if my iron overload could have hindered transport of Vitamin B12 across my cell membranes, (you kind of alluded to that potential?) thus leaving an excess of B12 in my bloodstream... Because I also have a LOT of the symptoms of B12 deficiency!
AND I am wondering if an intracellular deficiency of B12 could be responsible for my anemia! Crazy, huh? My bone marrow biopsy indicated that I don't produce enough RBC's. I have been going for phlebotomy frequently to decrease my ferritin levels and it is now down to normal (80). =) They only take 400mls at a time because of my anemia. (My Hgb is usually just over 11, hct low 30's.)
So now that I understand more, I will be asking my Hemotologist (actually an NP) to re-check another B12 level now that my ferritin level is normal, and if it's still high, to pursue further testing to determine WHY, as you have so clearly indicated its importance!! I will be checking your website, and referring my Hematology NP to it!

My B-12 levels are slightly emevated, almost 1200. I am always tired, but do not sleep well I'm also diabetic and have blood pressure that spans high to very low(mostly high on the top and low bottom). I also have neurophy. Last March, i noticed my feet swelling. Went to see my doctor, who sent me immediately to emergency. My iron level was 7.2. the hospital kept me and started doing hourly blood test from. 7 pm. At 1 am, my iron dropped to 7 and i was goven a transfusion. They kept me for 3 days until my iron level was up to 9.7. iweighed myself the morning of my appointment, i was weighed again inmy drs office, then again at the hospital. I weighed 180. Within 30 days after my hospitalization, i weighed 144. Ive had a scope performed of my upper digestion, and a colonospy. Nothing found. Less than a yeat later, i weigh 124. All test results come back almost normal. Iron a little low, sefimentation high. Red blood cells large. And higher than normal B-12. Losing weight at about 1 1/2 pounds a month. Still tired and dont sleep for days. Any thoughts? Any further tests recommended?

Hi. Thank you for the video. I have had elevated B12 for a few years. Could never get answers from doctors. I was exposed to high levels of radiation for almost 10 years. Lived in the area of Chernobyl Nuclear Plant explosion. My Dad died from multiple myeloma. I tried to ignore it. However, now when I have symptoms I can’t ignore it any longer. I was hospitalized twice in the past 2 months. Unusual fatigue, very heavy legs, dizziness, nausea, itchy skin. Did all the tests possible. MRI’s do not show anything. Doctors say that I am a mystery for them and that they are not equipped to deal with it. What do I do now? I do not supplement with vitamins nor do I eat dairy and meat. No processed foods. Who can help?

I hope this can help at least someone. My elevated B12 levels were due to a B1 deficiency. I had both dry and wet Beriberi. If I understand it correctly B1 is crucial in the transportation chain of B12 and the other micro nutrients in to the cell. Elevated serum B12 is apparently common in a B1 deficiency. The entire chain breaks down without it.

@@user-sp3kj3bt1h you need to correct the B1 deficiency in order to get correct utilization of the rest of the micronutrients. I started with Benfothiamine and worked my way up to a dose I could tolerate. It eventually stopped working and I had to change to a thiamine supplement called Thiamine Tetrahydrofurfuryl Disulfide, its bioavailability is extremely good and it did wonders for me. When my B1 status was finally resolved everything else followed suit.

One week later I started VERY STRICT Ketovore (99% Carnivore actually) 7 weeks later, my thyroid Specialist ordered thyroid labs & my TSH on Nov 2nd is 2.99 with lab & specialist remarks stating "Normal & no need for medications." So glad I asked my Docs to give me 90 days to heal with FOOD & not with medications they both immediately wanted to prescribe. (Follow Ken Berry MD youtube channel & his nurse wife Neisha (NeishaLovesIt) .... thats how I got to this point ... nothing else worked incl my 30 yrs of bodybuilding, vegan & vegetarian decades of lifestyle; then followed up with Black Mold Exposure in florida; prior Hep B 40 yrs ago ... and years of fungal issues because of these medical issues. I also was tested & just found out I am 3 out of 4 allergic to histamines & dust mites. Those allergies create huge problems that I am learning to overcome with a carnivore diet & researching mites and also histamine & the medical issues they create for us.Today; I cant wait to redo my CKD, B12 & PreDiabetes labs soon to be ordered. I also have severe insomnia. I hate having to take meds, but would have been dead years ago without them. My body started seriously breaking down without sleep. I still don't get the restorative sleep I need, even with meds. Used to be able to fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and could sleep deeply for over ten hours if given the chance. Then one day I couldn't. Was up for a week straight when it started, just with micro naps that sometimes literally lasted only seconds . I about went nuts.

My B-12 is 1997…I don’t sleep, I haven’t felt good in years!! I have to work HARD to keep my sodium up to bottom of the range. This time I’ve been unable to do anything for 8 weeks due to low sodium!! BP is all over the place, crashed one minute, HIGH 15 minutes later! I don’t eat fast food, very little processed food! I don’t take vitamins because my stomach can’t handle them unless I eat the new gummy vitamins which is full of 4 different kinds of sugar. I’ve had 18 concussions so my pituitary gland doesn’t work. I’m 61 and high mileage Bi-Vocational Pastor with International Ministries. I own a high stress telecommunications construction company. My stress levels are off the charts not to mention my 24/7 pain. My body is not discussed in the basic orthodox medical manual. My pads under the front of my feet and bottom half of my toes being numb prompted my MD to check my Thyroid which was fine, my A1C -5.6 with average of 100 both of which I understand given the feet issues but then she checked my B-12 which caused me to wonder why?? Well that was a couple days ago and it’s 3 points from 2000.
I am a wreck so any thoughts would be appreciated greatly. I will speak with my MD on Monday. I’m 61, 6’4”, 280 pounds. God Bless!

Ask your primary Doctor to give you a referral to a hematologist/ oncologist. It could also be VERY helpful to check with a Naturopathic Doctor and have them do a total tox burden urine test, blood tests, hair analysis test. etc. to check for mold, fungus, heavy metals, & parasites in the blood, urine, and other tissues of the body. Apparently almost all cancers are caused by fungus and parasites.
