      @Randy Marsh Games in 4K are not possible many games support the native resolution. And this is good for the graphic card. I use an old RTX2080TI and in Destiny 2 I reach framerates in full details between 80 and 144 Hz depending the scene. 4K Movies would be scaled depending the software you use. In my opinion the LG is an UHD- :) screen. Much better than the typical hight of 1440 the 1600 gives you a significant space in productivity and normal use.

    • @matthiasmuller5173
      @matthiasmuller5173 3 года назад

      @Randy Marsh size does not matter :) you can buy a 27 inch display with 4k or a 32 inch display with FHD both differ in the pixelsize and how sharp your will see in your viewing distance. Another reason is the aspect ratio typical TVs are 16:9 witdth to hight the LG is 24:10 so you have plenty of room for the same pixel width like 4k but not so much room in the height.

    I could not find this model in stock. Usually it's the older LG38GL950-B not the newer GN. I broke down and got the Asus PG35VQ instead. I originally bought the Samsung Odyssey G9, got it back in September but it had issues. I boxed it up and sent it back for a refund. I was looking at the LG again I couldn't find it anywhere, so I went with the higher price Asus because of it's HDR 1000.

  • @Boppper

    I have this paired with an RTX 3090 and the combo is amazing but can't justify the price. A viable option might be to just go for a new LG 48" CX Oled tv. Also I expect the price of ultrawide G-Sync's with HDR to come down quite a bit in the following years. One nice thing is still being ableto play 1440P. I stream and having the extra desktop space is awesome. Also working from home is nice as I can basically have two desktops open side by side.

    Почему в режиме HDR у вас не только половина изображения на мониторе становится светлее, но вся правая сторона кадра, включая стол, стену, подставку? Зачем так наивно обманывать людей?
    Why in HDR mode you have not only half of the image on the monitor becomes lighter, but the entire right side of the frame, including the table, wall, stand? Why is it so naive to deceive people?

    Just wanna put this out there as a PSA: I have the LG GN38950, and the panel is REALLY problematic. I've done 2 trades with LG and both panels had dead pixels. The second one had incredibly bad backlight bleed in the corners. Enough to detract from the viewing experience. I don't think I'll ever trust a LG monitor again, given how daaamn expensive this was.

      @TechyTalkUK  3 года назад +5

      It's not its biggest selling point. It does better than displays that only have displayhdr 400 rating (i.e. most modern displays) but it's not a profound difference. 10bit makes no difference outside of HDR (seriously, don't believe the hype - it is literally pointless outside of HDR or if you work with professional editing software that supports AdobeRGB colour). HDR is still basically all hype right now, with only a handful of super expensive displays able to do it justice (when it comes to monitors). Unless you can afford the top tier HDR displays (pg27uq etc), I wouldn't even consider it a factor.

    Cant decide between 38GN950 and 34GN850... Do you think 3840 x 1600p might be pushing it for high refresh rate gaming? Even with a 5900x w/6800XT?

    • @TechyTalkUK
      @TechyTalkUK  3 года назад +4

      Definitely going to be a struggle in some games. All depends what sort of games you play. You can at least run this display at 3440x1440 on most (I think) games. If you're setup can't reach 3440x1440 easily there's no way to step down without changing ratio, at least in most games, so that was always an issue with 34in displays. One way to look at it is that, personally, I don't think the extra screen size and resolution of 38in adds much to most games -34in is big enough. I would only really get it for the extra desktop space.

    • @JamesCutts22
      @JamesCutts22 3 года назад +2

      @@PutinIsKing its more like only 15% more fps, as the ultrawide format is more demanding especially in 3rd person and 1st person games, as field of view is enhanced. So the GPU has to calculate more than a 16:9 format display

    Have you tested its overdrive overshoot rates? @fast I guess would be optimal (fastest would give ugly overshoots for sure)
    And do they stay under control with the varying refresh rates? (like if it varies from 80~144 ... perhaps how it's at 120Hz given that you have to restrict it to 120Hz to get 10bit colors) ?

    • @TechyTalkUK
      @TechyTalkUK  3 года назад

      As you say, fast rather than fastest is the way to go. And like most monitors, overdrive does change depending on the refresh rate, with lower refresh rates generally showing more overshoot for the same overdrive setting at lower refresh rates. IIRC, there is a little extra overshoot when the display is set to 120Hz but that only matters for playing HDR content (which is largely pointless on this display anyway). You can also turn the overdrive setting down to balance this.

      @@Dzukacorama I actually ended up returning it. Otherwise it was perfect monitor, but I noticed two dead/stuck pixels which really irritated me :D Ended up buying Alienware AW3821DW which actually uses the same panel as LG. I chose Alienware because they have overall better customer service if there is issues, Alienware had longer warranty and it happened to be on sale for also 999€. LG has really lousy standards when it comes to dead pixels, as in Alienware they will replace the monitor even with one dead pixel. Otherwise I would've preferred LG (higher refresh rate, good rear light, better usability in general), so it's a shame really that it happened to have those stuck/dead pixels, otherwise I would've definetily kept it... Still, I'd say that if there is a return policy, go for it and try it out. If there is no stuck pixels or issues, keep it and you'll have a great monitor.

    Nice Information. Now long had you used the monitor before measurement? Mine changes the contrast ratio from around 850:1 to 970:1 after 500hours of usage. I measured with a Datacolour Spider X.
    What equipment do you use für recording? I was not able to record in such a high quality. ruclips.net/video/cLJEJdCw1Tk/видео.html
    Especial the SDR HDR comparison is perfect.

    • @TechyTalkUK
      @TechyTalkUK  3 года назад +1

      It was a review sample so I don't know how long it was used before I had it. It was reset to defaults and would've been tested after a few hours to warm up (and used for gaming over several days). I've never encountered a monitor significantly changing contrast measurement over a long period before, the though. Much more likely to be a change in environmental factors. I also do find the dataclour spyder to be problematic for measuring contrast. It struggles to measure low enough black levels to get an accurate measurement. I found it would regularly underreport contrast by a significant amount.

      You need to turn on HDR in Windows to then be able to turn HDR on in games or view HDR videos on RUclips, for instance. However, you shouldn't keep HDR on all the time as it makes everything that isn't HDR look weird. So, basically, only turn it on when you need to.
