This channel is seriously underrated. The editing, sound and video quality, the shots and angles he chooses, the products he showcases, etc. He also always keeps a great balance between keeping it simple without being way too numbed down and talking about detailed stuff without being to way heavy. I also really respect the fact that the videos have the length needed to properly display to product without rushing or streching and this video is a perfect example of that, he could have easily put a few seconds here and there to achieve the 10 minute mark but he didn't, that shows that he cares more about the quality of the end product than anything else.
I also have a lot of respect for him being honest about the products and pointing out their flaws. In this video per example he straight up says that paying in a monitor like this is amazing due to the high refresh rate and resolution but he also points out that in certain games it can be really hard to hit the proper frame rates needed to fully take advantage of the high refresh rate due to such a high resolution making, sometimes, the experience just average.
Keep up the great work dude!

Been using mine as a productivity/work monitor. I did test out a few games on it but I prefer 240hz for games (just waiting to swap to 1440p 240hz soon), and WOW it was quite impressive how far tech has came. Also that 98% DCI-P3 is no joke, and really makes games look VERY nice. Even better so after using a colorimeter to calibrate the display (the built in hardware calibration is currently bugged on all units).

The bezel less design is immaculate, i wish more companies went this route instead of the shitty giant chins and thick side bezels.
Now all i need is for a 23.8" 1440p 300hz Oled monitor with HDMI 2.1 & DisplayPort 2.0 to come out.

@Hose2wAcKiEr Which is why OLED should be the future of gaming monitor and is the present of high end TVs and the standard of high end phones.
Burn in is not as much of an issue as it was 7 years ago so hopefully we get 27inch, 2160p, 240hz, HDMI 2.1, DP 2.0, OLED monitors & specially 23.8" 1440p 300hz Oled monitors within the next 3 years.

The bezel is really what sells this monitor for me. I agree with the video that 1440p 144Hz (maintainable at all times) is better than 4K with lower FPS, but I can’t find a single 1440p design like this one with extremely thin bezels AND no chin.
The 1440p equivalent of this (27GN850) unfortunately has a chin with the LG logo.

Beautiful monitor. Still hunting for the elusive 1600 vertical. For many years I worked with a 2560x1600 16:10 ultrasync from Dell. Dreadful gaming monitor, but a programmers paradise, as that extra 12% vertical space is an absolute blessing. Call me spoiled, but I want that vertical in a gaming monitor, preferably one that is *not* so unnecessarily wide I have to turn my head to view edge to edge from 24 inches away. The hunt continues.

If there's no DLSS 2.0 and a game can't get 100 fps minimum at 4K I would switch to 1440p. I would like the versatility so how does it look at lower resolutions? Please answer! Great vid.

I don't have the monitor yet although I'll hopefully get it in not too long. But in general scaling down a monitor doesn't look too good. If you do scale it down though 1080p will look much better than 1440p because its 4:1 scaling. 4k has exactly 4 times the pixels as 1080p so it will simply display 4 pixels as the same colour. It won't look quite as good as a 1080p native monitor but not bad. 1440p however will look a bit blurry because some interpolation will have to be used to fill the extra pixels of the monitor. Hopefully this was helpful even if not about this particular monitor and not just information you already knew.

I think, and I may be justifying my purchase here, just getting rid of AA in most titles is worth the jump to 4K. I hate the blurry look of AA and the shimmer without it is distracting when looking for small targets at long ranges in many titles. 4K solves this. Though I wish it was 32"

    Some side notes:
    1. You can actually run this monitor on DP 1.4 at 120hz (That is, make sure you change the DP mode off of DP 1.4 DSC). I did this on my 1080 TI, which doesn't support DSC. I think I did have to run the Nvidia firmware upgrade though. (I've since picked up a RTX 3080 FE) If you forget to change the mode, it will get stuck at 95hz.
    2. The HDR rating is HDR600! Pretty good for this price point! Although, in some cases you may want to turn off local dimming.
    3. I still think this is a good all around monitor. Even for those games which need a lower res to get the full 144hz, you can always lower the resolution ;D This really does hit the sweet spot of one monitor to rule them all .
    4. When I received mine, I was very nearly disappointed. When first turning the monitor on, I had very distinct horizontal "corduroy" lines. Those magically went away and never came back.
My only issue: For some reason, when Adaptive Sync is turned on, some experiences, like the Assassins Creed Odyssey Discovery Tour, will refuse to go full screen, and therefor also prevent turning on HDR... if anyone knows how to fix this... please let me know :D

I'd have thought you'd get rid of the "gamery" stand and would mount it to a flexible stand. I had to decide between a 34 inch Alienware and an LG with the same stand and went for the Alienware because I'm not into nerdy red gaming accents, just as you. Can't argue with the panel though, LG nailed that. I think 4K really only makes sense for 30+ inches. I stay with 3440x1440 for PC and plan to get a fat 4K HDR for console gaming in the future. That way I can still have Ultrawide and high FPS on PC but cinematic singleplayer or sports games on a 4K TV.

There's a slight inaccuracy in the mentioned maximum refresh rate. On Displays/GPUs which do not support DSC, the maximum limits of DisplayPort 1.4 are unchanged from DisplayPort 1.3 (4K 120 Hz, 5K 60 Hz, 8K 30 Hz). However, if you want to also get HDR output (which is 30 bit/px), you are then limited to 4k 60hz.
in contrast, if your GPU&Display both support DSC, and you want to get HDR output, you are still limited to 120hz, but can get 144hz in SDR content.
And as an example - if you have a 10 series NVIDIA GPU (such as GTX1080), and using this monitor, then you'll get up to 4k 120hz (or up to 40k 60hz in HDR mode).

I thought I had a capable system (2080TI and 9900K), but even with that, the performance hit was just too much and I ended up returning them and going back to my 165Hz 1440P.

This monitor arrived at my house yesterday. I'm going from 24-25 inch 1080p - 27 inch 4k and its taking some serious adjustment. Had to scale windows to 175% and everything is still a tad bit smaller than on the 1080p. While so far i'm enjoying the 4k monitor you really only get to see extra detail if what your looking at is higher res than 1080p. So I noticed some of my desktop wallpaper's have more detail in them that I never saw before. 4k video looks really good but most things on the internet are not high quality res so most of the time you don't get the benefit of having the extra res on your monitor. Another thing is things seem harder to focus on the 27 inch but at the same time I tend to focus in more narrowly at what im looking at when it comes to the windows desktop experience. The mouse drags more on the 4k because it has 4x the pixel density which means 4x the travel length so going from my 1080p and dragging the mouse onto the 4k (and vice versa) is a a bit of a mind fuck.
I haven't tried to game on the 4k yet but im limited to 60-95hz because my 1070 only has dp 1.2 and doesn't support dsc so I'm expecting things to get much better when I can get my hands on a 3080/3090. Then I can run both monitors at 144hz and I might even buy a 2nd LG27GN950 so I don't have to deal with the issues going from one monitor to the other.

@@Pinpadprompts 1440p at 27 too grainy? Right now I kinda hate having a smaller 1080p next to my 27 4k. Was thinking about buying a 2nd 950 because the experience of moving desktop windows and apps from the 4k to the 1080p makes the entire experience buggy.
Also a lot of windows processes don't scale like they're suppose to with windows scaling.
A lot of old games I play don't scale with 4k either so I end up playing it on 1080p anyway. Does DSC help with the windows scaling issues in older games? ATM my 1070 doesn't have dp 1.4 so I'm also waiting on getting a new GPU. Crossing my fingers some of these issues go away with the proper displayport config.

Just bought the GL850 variant, which is a 1440p version of this, and I'm loving it. Took a lot to get the colours looking accurate without a calibrator, but that's just the perfectionist in me, while also being lazy and not wanting to go out and get a calibrator lol. Coming from 2 TN panels, and having tried a ultrawide VA, I can say that IPS is without a doubt the best of both worlds... Of course if you're not counting OLED. The blacks are of course not the darkest like VA, and you might be a tiny bit off the TN margin of perfomance for games, but it's close enough in both regards while also having such a crazy colour spectrum and not having the ghosting on VA or the bad angles of TN/VA... Go big, or save your money, this is where gaming is at nowadays. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that if you are playing the newest games at high to max settings, you need a 1440p at the minimum of 27inch, it's fucking mental how sharp/clear it looks... It's like putting on perscription glasses for the first time. Very happy with my purchase. I am sure I could of saved money here and there on other models, but my country has a very limited selection, so I'm happy this was even here.

Not to say these other people don't have good information but I agree with you much more than I do others.

    • @Jhakaro

For me, I'd like higher than 60 but 120 or 144 is more than enough really as I don't feel there's as much of a difference when it comes to 144 vs 240 and you begin to get greatly diminishing returns. I do creative work though too so 4k is very useful in that regard and I watch movies and things on my computer regularly enough so having good resolutions and 4k is great for that. I also play mostly story games really so I don't need super high frame rates for those and would generally prefer really nice immersive visuals. Console gaming has never felt especially slow or unresponsive to me when it comes to story games despite being like 30 fps so 80 or 100 while at 4k is more than enough for me. Valorant is the only really competitive game I'm playing lately but I still feel like 144hz is more than enough for my needs and pretty sure it can get at least that with a strong card at 4k.

Blaming the monitor for a PC based problem is kind of unfair. It’s like how I upgraded my whole system a month after I bought my x34 because my PC was holding it back. It was annoying seeing the frame rate dip below 100fps and being forced to compromise on the settings.

I wish there were more options on the table for a 25'' or 24.5'' 1440p / 144hz monitor.
I understand that the pixel density would make it a little more difficult to justify the QHD resolution on a smaller screen, but I honestly prefer slightly smaller monitors for gaming.

It is worth pointing out, for games at 4k that aren't running at a high enough frame rate to take advantage of the 144hz will still look and play smooth at lower frame rates because of gsync/freesync. Even playing at 60 fps looks buttery smooth on this thing in non competitive games at 4k. And if you really need to get to 144 fps at 4k on a competitive game, keep the resolution at 4k and bring down some graphics settings in the game to improve performance, games still look amazing at 4k with gsync even if its not on the ultra settings.

If you're buying this monitor for its hardware calibration capability, I'd strongly suggest reconsidering. There's a known issue with the monitor being unable to maintain the calibration after shutting down one's PC. This issue is confirmed by LG support, and according to them, "no firmware can correct this." Their only solution is that the user must recalibrate their display every time they turn their computer on, which is obviously completely impractical. There's no fix on the horizon (at least none that LG are talking about publicly) and although this is an excellent monitor, this advertised feature is completely useless.

my 2 cents: I have 2 older 60Hz LG 4K Panels which I mainly bought because source code and other text are so much cleaner than on a 1080p Panel.
But gaming on these is difficult since setting lower resolutions only provide smeary images and for 4k/60 my Vega56 is not really fast enough.
Most games run in render resolution scaling ~80%, if they support it.
In hindsight, it would have been a better Idea to get 1440p Panels since they still provide much better text view than 1080p but dont need that much 3D power.
