    This kind of video reminds me of way back then I cant afford a high end pc with 144hz monitor. Now that I finally bought rigs that I wanted, I dont have the time, friends, same energy & skills I had back then. Now all I do is watch videos and casually play games (like stardew valley and such).
    Edit 1 : I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of you young & old gamers out there who’s currently are having a great time with your friend to cherish the moments of you all playing together. We don’t know how long we could play together.

      I spent a couple of years playing sims with a number of flight sticks. One day, I decided to buy an expensive Logitech G940 flight system complete with throttle and rudder control. Unfortunately, I didn't realized that while I was purchasing it, I was already a bit burnt out with flight sims. When it arrived my excitement in using it lasted around a month or two.

    Keep in mind: 4K is very demanding for newer titles, but older titles from a few years ago and older can often run at 4K and well over 100 fps on a moderate-to-powerful machine, and they look phenomenal. As someone playing his way through a massive backlog, I can attest to this ;)

      What size monitor do you play on? I've compared 4k and 1440p at 27 inches and I have to look really close to see a difference. Granted my eyes are not what they used to be, but the difference seems mostly in slightly clearer objects in the far distance. I'd say maybe a 5% difference, almost negligible. At larger monitor sizes I would agree that 4k is better.

    Well done video. Great detailed info at 5:38 . Finding your own personal sweet spot for your use case is so important. I know this is a gaming monitor video, but based on the recent uptick in VR market growth I think people also need to consider how that affects their equipment purchase needs. For example I am quite happy with my GTX 1080 ti for standard gaming at 1440p ( 4:11 Still hanging on!... out of necessity because of, ya know, scalpers) BUT I am really holding out for a reasonably priced RTX 3080 for VR purposes, and won't mind that it's a bit overpowered for my 1440p monitor.

    I bought a 1080p 144Hz monitor late last year. I was originally planning on 1440p 144Hz but the jump in price between 1080p and 1440p was so big that it didn't make financial sense to buy 1440p yet. I figured I can save my money now, wait until I can get a newer GPU then buy the new 1440p monitor alongside, and keep this 1080p one as a secondary monitor.

    I think the main benefit of a 4K display comes outside games. People always talk about how negligible the difference is in-game (which is mostly true) forgetting how much time we spend browsing and reading text, or using productivity applications with complex UIs, all of which look undeniably better on a HiDPI display.

    • @B0sser
      @B0sser 11 месяцев назад +2

      This comment in underrated. I think most people have to make a choice because 1440p and 1080p can not multi task. if you are fine with this a single 1080p or 1440p is fine.
      For more people who work at home from time to time or do spend a lot of times on the web have a benefit from multitask.
      - 4k is able to go window side by side
      - 1440p ultrawide is able to go window side by side
      - 1440p and 1080p can always go 2 monitors to battle the mentioned conflict.
      for the multitask purpose the choice will be one of the three.

    Dude, your IPS vs TN advice is spot on! I have an IPS LG 34UM95-P (3440X1440) from 2014.......and last summer, I was shopping for a newer monitor, being jealous of newer technologies such as curved panels, Gsync, and higher refresh rates. I thought I had found the answer (at a reasonable price) in the ASUS TUF VG35V. Sadly, I didn't quite do my due diligence, and failed to notice is was a TN panel :/
    I did use the new monitor for about 4-6 months, but all the eye candy in Cyberpunk made me realize how washed out the colors were on that monitor. So I switched back to the much older LG, despite its' relative drawbacks, and have been happier overall. Blacks are blacker, colors are deeper and more vibrant, and even though I'm sure it's Brightness is lower than the TUF, the deeper blacks more than make up for that. Lesson learned.

    • @krxs15
      @krxs15 2 года назад +1

      honestly, ips is so much better than every other panel, even though ur ips monitor is from 2014, its not worth the trade off of ur ips panel for a curved panel with gsync lmao.

But I really do feel the lower FPS and the resolution itself did not blow my mind so I think I'm going to return the 4k monitor. It was not that kind of wow effect that I wanted versus the lost fps. I think I just need to wait OLED monitors to blow my mind, now 4k OLED monitor would be something to consider. I have 4k OLED TV and that is really something different than these IPS panels.

    If you want a 4K monitor, look for ones with large diametre panels, from 2014-2017, in auctions. They can be found for 200-300 bucks, mostly from liquidation sales. I've been using a 40'' 4K VA panel from Philips released back in 2014 and paid only 225 euros for it. Still came with the plastic wrap and energy efficiency label attached. The original price was 700 euros.

    I do think it is worth springing for a 4k panel for the simple fact that you can turn down gameplay resolutions on the fly. This greatly benefits literally everything else you can do on a PC. Watching movies, RUclips, web browsers, etc. The instant that 4k panels get around $400 I will definitely buy one.

    I like your video, and you are very good at explaining things in an easy-to-understand way. Thank You.
    I agree with what you were saying about a higher refresh rate on a lower grade monitor for gaming.
    My decision was based on wanting a great Movie and gaming experience. Hence, I went with the LG 4K, and I am using an RTX3090 to run it (Over-Simplified: Borrowing your words) but, I would be curious to know your thoughts on Monitors for individuals that do want the best of both worlds. It never seems to be talked about much. People talk about gaming/Video editing but not much about Gaming/Home Theatre options. Typically a larger monitor calls it a Home Theatre, but I have a very tiny desktop space, so I am doing what I can. Smaller 27" 4K Monitor with a smaller 5.1 surround sound speaker setup all stuffed in basically a closet-sized area.
    So that is all my facts. Do you have any opinions that you can think of?
    Regards, Mate.

Here's why, the 3060 has the same performance at 1080p as the 3070 does at 1440p, 1440p is still too expensive, the drop in resolution was apparent to me but the increase in fps was even more so and more valuable to my enjoyment. What's weird is that most movies are rendered at 2k 1440p but then upscaled to 4k, and if you play it on this it will be effectively downscaled to it's original resolution. Unfortunately 2k to 4k and back again doesn't scale well so by upscaling and then downscaling it will look fuzzy because every third pixel gets lost. I've never tried it but that would be my hypothesis. Unless the monitor miraculously gets rid of the same pixels that were interpolated in the first place.

    I bought a Dell S2417DG monitor almost 5 years ago and it has aged beautifully. It's 24", 1440p, 165Hz, and supports G-sync. There are almost zero 1440p monitors available today with pixel density that high, and it creates very crisp images because the small pixels have a natural anti-aliasing effect. I've said for years that 1440p gaming is the sweet spot in terms of real estate and performance. Even high-end video cards struggle to render 4K at high frame rates, especially with ray tracing enabled. The viability of 4K gaming has struggled to gain footing because even though GPUs have increased in performance over the years, the complexity of the graphical effects added to new titles has likewise increased.

    I gotta say.
    I've always been rocking low pixel density displays : my very first PC (that I kept gaming on for 5 years) was a MSI laptop with a 15.6" 1366x768 resolution.
    I then went to a 27" 1080p 60Hz panel, and about a year ago, I upgraded to a similar panel at 165Hz
    And though I have a quite powerful PC (3700X + 2070S + 32GB RAM) I just DON'T see the benefit of going 1440p
    I mean, I love the high refresh rate and i'm not bothered by the 1080^p resolution. That way I can push more frames in single player titles, and have a more stable framerate in competitive ones (not mentionning my PC just draining lower power overall thanks to frame limiters)

    I agree with everything in the video, but I also think it is important to "future proof" your monitor. For me, a monitor isn't something I change very often so if I buy a new one, I want it to be ready for any future upgrades I do to the rest of my rig. Right now, I am looking for a new monitor and with my 1060 graphics card, I doubt I can play many games in more than 1080p. However, I think the perfect monitor for me is a 1440p 144-165hz because who knows if I can change my GPU in 1-2 years.

In fact some of these game engines have problems at high fps like GTA V.
