I have this monitor for a year now and I absolutely love it. These issues are not a deal-breaker for me as I`m not ultra-sensitive. There is no such thing as perfect.

well that's reassuring 4/5 of your complaints dont even matter to me, i use a monitor arm exclusively, i fully plan on running this thing at 120hz for 10bit colour i only got a 1080 ti 144fps is hard enough at 1440p anyway and i plan on turning the backlighting off immediately , the fps counter thing i just use NVIDA's shadowplay. WRT the bug im sure LG will release an update they are usually pretty good with updates for there TV's
great 5 pros and cons i will for sure be picking this up

Did you end up getting this monitor? Reason being I have a TITAN X (Pascal). You having 1080 Ti is slightly stronger than my card (last I checked on that was back in the day, when NVIDIA ripped off TITAN X pascal card holders by releasing 1080 Ti with slightly stronger specs and for half the price 🤬).
If you ended up paring your 1080 Ti and this monitor, your input would be appreciated😎👍. I definitely want a 1440p picture with decent fps. I too would settle at 120 to 100 fps with this monitor maybe a little less even. That being said, my graphic pushing games wouldn't be too demanding considering they're sim racing games like: ACC, F1 2020, GRID 2, GRID(2019), and Wreckfest. 🤷‍♂️🙋‍♂️

I really don't think a stand ,RGB illumination, and a 15 hz difference are deal breakers . I have this monitor and with 9900k w/2080ti and you can barely reach the 160 fps mark without lowering settings . The point of diminishing returns past 144 is so minute as well

How is their Customer Service quality? I have not bought anything major from this brand before, please advise.

I'm so glad I came across your channel. You went in depth about this monitor in a short but concise way so thank you! This video ultimately helped me decide my purchase. So, I couldn't decide whether to get this one or the slightly smaller LG 34GN850-B. After watching this It sort of just clicked that I couldn't justify spending a total of $700 extra with taxes for essentially the same monitor. That rgb ring looks beautiful but im sure it would bother down the road knowing the lights are slightly delayed. Plus both panels essentially have the same refresh rate of 160hz. HDR 600 on this compared to the HDR 400 on the 34" didn't make a difference since HDR makes some games I play way too bright and washed out anyways. I did want just a little bit more screen pixel real estate but for the price It really doesn't make sense to me. So thank you for saving me a small fortune! I'll be investing that into a new 3080ti when it releases!

I've seen your videos prior to purchasing this monitor and now, after using it for a couple of days, The biggest disappointment for me by far is the contrast ratio. This is not what I expect from an IPS monitor. This monitor is sitting on my desk, side by side with another IPS monitor (the most excellent Asus ProArt PA329Q) and the difference is huge. The Asus is a professional 4K monitor but it's almost four years old. I expected more from LG.
Other than that, the display is great. I am going to keep it and although the mount is not as terrible as I thought it would be, I am going to hook it up to a mount.
Again - great video. liked and subbed.

  • @notatHomeVideos

I run it at 175 Hz - text looks identical to 160 Hz... Unless you're doing professional video/photo editing (which this is not the best monitor for anyway), most of us mortals couldn't tell the difference between the 444 and 422 subsampling.
My biggest disappointment is not being able to fully disable the LED ring during the boot up of the monitor and having a rainbow unicorn when you boot or waking from sleep

Also, this is why you may be having the "deep sleep" issue with your monitor and having to restart it to turn it back on...try this: The monitor came with "deep sleep" turned on by default for some reason. Turn this off in the monitor OSD if you use Windows to put your monitor to sleep after a period of inactivity, or else GSync won't work and your refresh rate will be limited to 100Hz when it wakes back up, necessitating a PC restart.

UPDATE: After 5 months. Tested it against : Predator x34a, Predator z301c, LG 34GL750, LG 34UC89G
+ No ghosting, No coronas, No blur. I have never seen image that accurate in motion to still image. Just Perfect.
+ Sphere Lighting (to me is the best feature of them all). Go for Video Sync Mode when in Full Screen. It's very nice experience.
+ Flat Stand (Not to big, Can be put on shallow desk)
    + Brighter
+ Image Quality and Oled like Colors. I recommend Setting Digital Vibrance to 66 and gamma to 0.85 (Nvidia Panel)
    + Bigger
    + Higher Resolution
+ Higher Refresh Rate (HDR still available in 175Hz, 10 bpc, YCbCr422, Limited output dynamic range). Some people complain that text looks weird in 175Hz but that only applies to HDR desktop, SDR text looks OK). Since It's not OLED you can easily run 10 bpc, YCbCr422 and have excactly the same colors as in RGB. I do also have Oled TV and to get deep Blacks RGB is necessary but not for this monitor.
Those are 7 you will gain over x34
    There are also disadvantages.
    - Vertical Scan lines (When Gsync is cold). Visible when moving objects or rotating camera
    - Screen Flickering when Gsync Windowed Mode is selected in Nvidia settings. Appears when Gsync Module is Cold (up to 1 hour depend on application you use), visible in app like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Filmora, reWASD.
//// Both of those flaws can be fixed by Disabling DEEP SLEEP in monitor options. The downside is that the gsync fan will never stop spinning and its audible. ////
    - Fan noise (2 of them), are annoying.
    - IPS Glow is massive so Viewing Angles are bad. This is not IPS you used to know. When you look at it from 45 degrees, there is no Black just grey and if the picture is dark you can't see anything, a mixture of VA and TN. When you sit in front It's OK
    - Gamma Mode 3 is not dark enough like x34 is. This can be corrected by making 2 necessary Actions. Go Nvidia Panel - Display - Adjust desktop color settings - drop GAMMA from 1.00 to 0.85
//// To keep Colors every Windows start - use Windows Search - type TASK SCHEDULER - Task Scheduler Library - Microsoft - Windows - WindowsColorSystem - Calibration Loader - right click on it - and DISABLE. ////
    - Fake HDR. Don't even try it. It's false advertisement and has nothing to do with HDR. The image is dim, not colorful and looks just Ugly. I wish it wasn't even implemented because games recognise HDR capable Monitor and kicks in The Fake HDR in Fullscreen and if game has no Option to change that you will have to run In Fullscreen Windowed to bring back SDR which looks amazing (Just boost Digital Vibrance to 66 in NVIDIA Panel and set Gama to 0.85). HDR even kicks in in 175Hz 8bit but no matter what Refresh Rate and setting u go for HDR looks the same and looks bad. Monitor doesn't offer different colour settings for SDR and HDR like TV does when HDR, DolbyVision and SDR have their independent color setting adjustments.
    - Volume Control (on Joystick) but there are no speakers. Left and Right activate Volume control but those shortcuts should be use for switching On/Off Crosshair and FPS counter
    - Lazy Menu. There are Gamer Profiles but you can not Edit, Save and Overwrite existing profiles with Crosshair or FPS counter included like Predator x34 does. You always have to go deep inside Menu and do it. Also you can not have both, only one.
    - Also I would like to see LG UltraGear Control Center opening minimized in TaskBar not Open on Desktop every windows start. You can help yourself and use "Actual Window Minimizer", add LG UltraGear Control Center and make it run minimized into Tray.
    Summary:
LG did a bad job not implementing passive cooling on Gsync module. Fan Noise. Amazing Sphere Lightning experience. It's a joy to use, colors close to an OLED TV.

Was looking to buy this monitor after having purchased the Acer X34P twice and having had issues out of the box both times (1 bright red pixel in the center first time, 1 dead/dim pixel with the panel losing signal randomly on any overclock setting the second).
Will not be purchasing now as the top issue is 100% a deal breaker. A monitor going to sleep is a multiple times a day occurrence. I'd be pretty crossed if I had to go into the monitor's OSD and change color settings each time.
Persistence of settings (even the FPS counter imo) is a basic requirement. Even a day's worth of end user testing would have caught that problem.
Thanks for the video @SuprUsr Stan. This "user experience" section containing what "your actual experience was like when using a product everyday for a few days" is the bit sorely missing in the majority of reviews out there.
Good content. Definitely helped me make a decision.

I realize this an old review, but as I'm listening to you, I am looking at the LG site, and it says this monitor is 144hz. Your issue w/ the stand is sort of ridiculous IMO. If someone is dropping so much scratch on a premium monitor, they're typically going to use a VESA mount to save desk space and improve functionality and aesthetics. However, the firmware glitch is legit...which I assume they'd have corrected by now?

I think the 175hz part is nit picking. Seriously who needs 175 hz refresh rate for productivity? 75 is decent and 120 is more than enough. Even many gamers are fine with 120. Personally I like the new lg38 wn95c, but will hold off until price comes down.

    • @WhiteoutTech

120Hz is the bare minimum for me. When I switched from a 165Hz1080P uw-monitor to a 120Hz1440P uw-monitor I did directly feel the downgrade in smoothness and motion clarity. However 120Hz is still fine.

But also, I had no idea about the Sphere Lighting needing software, that sucks. I was really interested in the ambient effect. I had no idea that it wouldn't be a hardware feature. What a let down. Considering that they key aesthetic is kind of a bust, I would have the X38 hands down, for a SIMILAR price.. I have an older Acer 34", Freesync monitor and I love grown up the look and the stand.. But if they try to charge $500+ more than LG, they are out of their minds! Almost forgot, LG has a slightly cheaper Vesa Adaptive Sync based model coming, with higher HDR specs to boot. I'm at least waiting for that and you should try to get us some news on it! ;)

Personally, I still prefer G-Sync over Compatible. However, it's probably a placebo effect at this point. Both are plenty good. G-Sync still usually offers a wider VRR range.

Does the 4:2:2 after resume problem go away if you disable Deep Sleep? I had to disable that on my Alienware 34" because it actually powers off, and makes all of my windows resize on resume.

That software for the lighting is dumb, for the price point it should have its own chip that measures color averages being displayed on the screen.

i would say if you want to buy this monitor go for it, it's the best in it's class, the refresh rate advertising con is the only real con here
the rest is just nitpicking and he wanted to make a top 5 list for the video so it's totally understandable.

Does anyone else find that the text fringing/chromatic aberration on this monitor is kind of annoying? It's really bad at 175hz but even at 160 with full RGB it's kind of noticeable. Maybe I'm just OCD

  • @PureCC

Just a suggestion: I watched the video for 1 minute and 22 seconds and I'm getting eye strain from your blinking eyes and head movements, especially when you wave it constantly left and right. I'm not trying to attack you in any way. It might just be me, but maybe consider moving the camera a bit further, and less head movements.

    • @SuprUsrStan
      @SuprUsrStan  3 года назад

10bit 175hz 422 is impossible because there’s just not enough bandwidth in the DisplayPort cable to support all those features. That’s why there’s a trade off between those three to stay below the bandwidth limitation.

@@SuprUsrStan yeh that sounds right but I’ll try remind I’ll grab screen shots both the screens osd and nvidia control panel reports 10bit 175hz with the 422, but I copied yours I get full rgb at 160hz
