Just another example of why you remain my favorite Utube Carving Instructor.
Always fun!
Always a great attitude!
Always easy to follow!
Thank you very much.
Thanks for showing the painting technique at the end.
I liked this design when you posted larger size maybe a year ago. BUT I do like you redoing it for your 1 X 1 series. Hope you keep going with these. Love them. Thanks
Great addition to the 1x1 series. Love the variations you came up with!
Thanks again Doug. always fun.
Doug ..I think you help beginners more then anyone ..The simple and wonderful projects are fantastic for carvers ...Thank you my friend ..Thank you so much for the carving community
Well said good sir!
Thanks Gene!!
Thank you for your woodcarving series. I just started to carve and your videos are great help in learning. I like your enjoyable laid back and easy going style. Keep on making wood shavings and I will keep watching. Thank you.
Thanks Doug! I didn't think you'd have enough time at the end of the video to give some instruction on painting them, but spoiler alert, you nailed it. Thanks for providing those tips in short form, very much appreciated!
This 1x1 Easter Island carving looks right up my alley. I did the big one you gave a tutorial on and really enjoyed that one. Thanks for another super idea for the 1x1 series Doug.
You have inspired me to start carving. I watched so many of your videos lately. The one that I would love to see a tutorial on the most is the viking Christmas tree
Love this Doug! I like how you put your own a twist on the Easter island heads.
Thanks for filming Doug. 😁👍🏼
Thank you Doug, as always a fun little project. Happy friday for me, will carve it right now!
Thank you!!❤
Those are to much fun. Great little project, thanks Doug.
Another superb video. I am really looking forward to whittling this one. It seems like a variation of the 5 minute wizard. I visited Easter Island years ago, so this will bring back good memories. Keep up the great work.
Simple? Perhaps. But so satisfying and fun to carve. Thanks for the excellent tutorials.
This is great Doug! We will carve this in our class next week! Not only a great carving but a great painting and finish exercise too! Thank you!
This is a good one Doug and thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Another great whittle! Love the format you showed the final painting touches!
Doug, you have easy to understand content. I like that you explain what you are doing and the reason behind it. It is a great help to beginners like me that are just getting their feet wet. I'm setting myself up for this winter in the house. It will be too cold up here for me to use my shop. Hands can't take the cold. It will give me something to do this winter. I have already designed two relief patterns and a 50th wedding anniversary spoon as a gift to my wife. But I need to carve a sitting pig for next summer's whirligig I have designed. I'm not skilled in that type of carving. Your shows will help me gain confidence to learn your type of carving craft. There is no better way to tell a story than making folk art. And thanks for the advice you gave me through email. Take care!
A fantastic video to watch with my morning coffee. Cheers to you and your family Doug.
They would make a fantastic chess set! Thanks for a great tutorial.
Thank you Doug. Ordered a Beaver craft whittling knife because of your Easter Island heads . Because I think these are simple enough for me to carve
Love those heads! Fun project!Thank you!
just getting into wood carving and this is a perfect way to start! easy to understand and a very well done / entertaining video. thank you!
Thanks Doug! This was a big help because I have a hard time with heads.
Thanks for the videos Doug, motivated me to carve again.
Great work, as always! Thank you, Doug!
The hands that launched a thousand chips. This is awesome. Thanks Mr Linker 🙂
Thank you for your videos. I have been carving for about two years now and have learned a ton of valuable tips by watching your videos. Look forward to more!
Looking forward to some intermediate lessons in the near future. Thanks for being my inspiration.
Thank you Doug. Gonna make a bunch of these guys.
Just love the 1x1 series. Keep them coming Doug.
Love this 1x1 series. Keep them coming Doug.
Just finished watching your original video. This is perfect for newby like me. Also watched the sharpening video. Will be stropping to get the knife upto condition before I start.
Like everyone else, great video.
Loved you're latest carving Doug. Your ruler to measure is nice too. Did you make it or purchase it? Would love to get one if you could share that info. As always, love your work and your tutorials. I have been carving for four years now as a result of your tutorials.
Great stuff Doug 😊
This was such a fun carving to do
Thank you for another great 1x1 project, Doug 🤗
Great project Doug
Great video and fun carve!
Looking forward to adding some new friends to my Easter Island heads. Thanks again for the inspiration to try something different and fun. 🏴😁
Gracias por tus trabajos, aprendo mucho contigo, enhorabuena por el canal. Saludos.
Great series. Having fun with it!
Thank you for the tutorial.
As always, Doug, thanks for another video!
Another great piece of work! Thanks so much!
Love it! ❤😉
Love your ideas
Great little carve.
Love it❤
I carved loads of these thanks to you and have often thought of putting smily faces on them..... now I think i need to.
Just carved one, very relaxing carve!
Thanks Doug , you have inspired me, with the idea of 1x1 mini bust. Thank you.
Another of your amazing creations completed, this one really was rewarding to carve, thanks again Doug.
Nice
Where is the beard? The beard helps the carvers!🧔♀💪🙏
What a great way to learn the rough concept of faces as well, this carve pretty much leaves you with a roughed out face to shape and customize however you'd like.
And even though it's probably similar, I'd love to see a Tiki head in the middle of winter when we're all craving some summer vibes!
Nice carve made the full size version with a slanted bottom so it sits at an angle, sure would love to see a bust, "Gangster" in a fedora maybe.
Watching this video gave me an idea, That looks very much like a Frankenstein head, How about a couple Universal Studio Monsters in the 1 x 1 ??? Just the heads ??? Just in time for the fall season. Just an Idea !
An old toothbrush works well for the speckling. Great project.
Very cool carve Doug. Try using a tooth brush to speckle. I use it for all of my speckling needs including my watercolor paintings. 😁
Doug ... You need to carve an Easter Island Gnome.
Thanks
Thanks Gina!
Thanks for doing these comparison carves. They really highlight techniques that beginners don't practice yet. Could you point a beginner to where they could buy carving wood? Thank you
Tip: For speckling paint on the carving, nothing helps more than a simple toothbrush!
To speckle with paint use a toothbrush rub a little paint on it with your finger then run your finger over the bristles.
Hey brother love your videos, i actually just finished my first no face gnome other day.. was with bigger block but I made it work, lots of fun. was wondering tho. Where do you get your wood it looks like it cuts like soap. Super easy… just wondering 💭. Would love to get some. Thanks for your videos, your time and your spirit, your a good teacher and you make it fun. 🤙🏻
J.
So enjoyable little carving. I can't help thinking that about the middle of the video, it looks a lot like Frankenstine. Would you consider making Frankenstine for halloween? Thank you!
I'd like to see you carve the books from the page master movie.
when you do Soap stone what knifes do you use ???🔪
Great video as always !!
Quick question where did you get the ruler?
It’s veritas from lee valley -overpriced but I love it
Try a toothbrush and popsicle stick for the speckles.
Hey Linker, where do you get your basswood? Any recommendations? I bought basswood that was as hard as a brick - You're over there slicing like butter and I'm trying to chip a brick. Lol
Thanks Doug!!!! Like many others I did the big one and this is still fun!!!
Quick question, where do you get the bark that you made the light house with?
Best wishes From Wasaga Beach ⛱️
I used to buy boxes of it from BC but it appears my supplier is not supplying anymore -chipping away in kitchener used to carry individual pieces but can’t confirm they still do
@@dougLinker thank you for taking the time to help me with this!! What would you ask for, is it cedar bark?
Best wishes From Wasaga Beach ⛱️
it's Cottonwood bark- we don't have the big stuff here in Ontario@@ronquesnelle7294
Thanks for the info!!!
Best wishes From Wasaga
I have kind of a ruler fetish. Where did you get that ruler ?
Nice carve by the way
I think doing a chess set with these little guys would be cool
Where did you find the ruler that you used? I love your 1x1 series
It’s a veritas from lee valley -kinda overpriced but I love it
Thank you
Little overpriced is right. I still ordered it
19:36 looks a bit like George Washington. Have you ever done a carving where you pre-painted the wood, so each cut reveals fresh wood? That might look interesting.
I have not…..yet
Where is a good place to get wood for carving? Also what wood should I get?
1x1 Basswood , Teeline USA and chipping away, lee valley etc ….not Amazon
I have found some at Michaels craft store
💚🇬🇧🌱
Daniel Doug Lewis
WAIT .... you shaved again ... I didn't recognize you
I can see me shedding a bit of blood.
So the wood isn't 1x1
Yes it is ,same as a 2x4 is a 2x4 -the missing ingredient is the length
Отличное видео, спасибо! 👍
Does your wife carve?
Pretty Cool Idea!! Nice job on video and showing how it's done. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓👍👍
