9 Surprising Symptoms of Hypothyroidism (DON'T Miss These!)

  • Experiencing symptoms and not sure where they are coming from? It may just be your thyroid.
Owing to the fact that just bout every cell in your body has a thyroid hormone receptor, the symptoms of hypothyroidism are vast.
And while you may know about the more common symptoms, there are plenty that can easily get mixed if you don't know what you are looking for.
With that in mind, here are some of the most surprising symptoms of hypothyroidism (low thyroid function):
    1. High cholesterol
Thyroid hormone regulates the elimination of cholesterol. When thyroid hormone is low, cholesterol clearance is decreased which causes a build-up of cholesterol in the body.
    2. Menstrual problems
Because thyroid hormone impacts both progesterone and estrogen, low thyroid can cause menstrual problems including problems with fertility.
    3. Swelling in the legs and in the face
Low thyroid function increases mucopolysaccharides in the tissues which pull water along with them. This results in swelling wherever they go.
    4. Headaches
Headaches may be an early predictor that you are about to become hypothyroid and the same is true for migraines.
    5. Mood swings
A sluggish thyroid decreases ATP production in the brain which slows down your ability to think and process information. This results in changes to your mood, depression, and brain fog.
    6. Dry skin
Thyroid hormone acts on eccrine or sweat glands found in your skin. If your body can't produce enough sweat then your skin will become dry and cracked.
    7. Muscle aches and pains
Thyroid hormone helps your muscles relax which prevents painful trigger points from developing.
    8. Changes to your voice
Just about every thyroid patient will experience changes to their voice but it may not be noticeable unless you are an expert.
    9. Carpal tunnel syndrome
Mucopolysaccharides can accumulate in the wrist which can put pressure on the median nerve resulting in carpal tunnel syndrome and nerve pain.

I have had the SAME problems as you have had AND as well as the problems with my Drs. After my Thyroid Cancer & thyroid removal in July I had the same pain. My primary Dr AND my Endocrinologist BITH said it was not my Thyroid. Even though I was STILL having my LEVOTHYROXINE decreased periodically- 4 times now- from 188 down to 125 rt now. I feel better BUT not until I was sent to a Rheumatoid Arthritis Dr for my wrist pain!!! She gave me a Prednisone steroid prescription of 5 mg that was tapered down in 12 days. I had INFLAMMATION all over my body!!! In only 4 days I am feeling & have since felt 100 times better!!! My face & neck look normal, I have ankles & wrists!! No pain!!! I don’t know how long it will last but I’m so happy!!! I can move without pain!!! I hope this helps!!! My Arthritis Dr SAVED MY LIFE!!! I cried to her. The other Drs had actually in My opinion thought I was lying!!! They NEED to do more research. We are in pain.

I have hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia- this video made so many keys unlock on possible challenges I haven’t considered. Mussel pain and inflammation etc made sense and I have had migraines since a teen in later life I have intolerance problem with potatoes weirdly! Don’t eat much dairy or I never eat meat since 8yrs . All fruit and veg; pulse/legume etc. fine with breads provided all things in regular portions. And WATER WATER WATER!
Coffee has been the toughest vice honestly.
Been using magnesium spray on neck a lot- cutting back my coffee to and turns out caffeine also depleted the natural magnesium stores in the body. And the irony of wanting a hot cuppa cause I’m cold when really more water and I’d have a warmer body - TYSM FOR THIS VIDEO DOC😇 did not connect the dots like this before and the fact that it needs to distribute to work in mussels hence pressure pain if it isn’t distributed widely enough. Tysm for the re-education- was needed💕

I had most of those symptoms and I have SLE lupus so it was really hard to diagnose me with this but I had all the symptoms. And even my endocrinologist saw that I had a lot of these symptoms. I wish that I had listened to the doctor that I had had years ago and stayed on synthroid cuz she like yeah you have only symptoms. But I didn't want all these medicines. And then I really pushed to get better and found out that I had lupus and everybody was dubbing it as I was overworking and that I had depression. So at 48 they finally put me on synthroid and I've only been on it for a couple months so I can already tell with my nails and my skin and I still have a lot of mood swings which is hard. And my sleep is awful and I shouldn't be the weight I am I don't look my weight. But I am 215 and I feel a little bit better being on synthroid we shall see with my blood results.

      Drink coriander seed water.
soak a tablespoon of seeds into a glass of water. (Preferably organic but if you can’t just use what you can) I buy them bulk as it works out to be much cheaper . Heat it up the next day or drink it cold. Discard of the seeds before drinking 😅
It might take a couple of months before you see results .

I walked around with hypothyroidism for a couple years. My TSH was 89 when I finally got diagnosed.
My symptoms were low pulse, low blood pressure, loss of all hair including on my arms. Always cold, and being itchy when it was hot. I had dry skin. I began getting charlie horse cramps in my stomach that were agonizing. I had to lay down on my side to rid the cramp.
My whole body became puffy. I couldn't drive for more than a half hour without having to pull over and take a nap. I couldn't get out of bed, and my legs started to collapse while standing. I could barely walk 50 ft without needing to sit down. I also got out of breath during that 50ft walk.
I ended up in a nursing home for 5 months of rehabilitation...After I recovered and left nursing home, a month later I had a massive heart attack while walking around a lake after exercise....I believe walking around with a bad thyroid for a couple years clogged up my arteries. I'm doing great now, because I got lucky. Don't ignore your thyroid!!!!

I just remember waking up in ICU. I'm very thankful. It happened in 2018. I had triple bypass surgery afterwards. I have no problems now. I completely understand… yes, I remember that I was also struggling to speak. I had thyroid cancer growing & hypothyroid for 3-4 years until it was finally found. The swelling of my face, chin & throat was devastating as well. My surgeon said it was a hard surgery due to all the swelling. I’m just very relieved that part is over. But , i know i need to find a new endocrinologist that has more experience & has done their research of all the symptoms that can be. I was accused of lying about the pain by my primary’s assistant. She thought that I just didn’t want to go back to work.
