I just had the privilege and honor of seeing Rodriguez at the Orpheum in LA. He is a national treasure. We are so lucky to have him going strong at solid 70! He is a gift to the world when most needed.
He is my man of old school music a legend that never dies his legacy goes on for ever & ever MY Man RODRIGUEZ Never ever for get u &.you are my idol .🖤💛.❤.

Love everything about him! Shame on producers that kept him obscured all these years. Can you imagine all the songs he would have by now? He was cut off!! 😢
Saw Sixto in Las Vegas a few years ago, where he opened for Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. He totally blew him away! Sixto did a complete solo acoustic show whereas Brian Wilson had a whole backup band! Ironically, Sixto also had the longest line at the Merchandising booths! There were more Sixto fans than Brian Wilson fans. Lol. Goes to show you, “never judge a book by its cover” as they say.
Sad reality is that before the “Searching for Sugarman” documentary, this is how unpopular Rodriguez was outside of Australia, South Africa & New Zealand. In this video in 2008 he’s singing for 30 people in a record store. He was completely unknown in the US & Europe at that time. It took 45 years for the movie to make him a celebrity so he could not be ignored & he finally had a music career at 70 years old.
some people don't know and they don't know what they are missing, some people know and don't care. i know and i care and i caught him live in a small venue in NYC a few days ago and that was an exceptional experience.
Awesome for Amoeba Music to have a mini concert of Sixto, in 2008 4 years before the movie came out, probably while Sixto was still working in construction.
This is the best live footage I've seen of Sixto because it has the almost full instrumental backing except for an orchestra. The effects in Can't Get Away gave me chills.
April 14, 2014: we saw him five days ago in a small venue in NYC (Town Hall) ... great seats ... what an experience!! Rodriguez is the coolest cat around!! i listen to his music almost every single day now. he is touring all over the freaking world now and coming back to NYC in October to play Radio City Music Hall and the Barclay's Center (we have tickets for that, too) ...
@Ferdinand Baarde . Oh shit, dude. You just called many of us dumb. That’s savage 😂😂😂. I like the guy a lot, very humble and unassuming. Rodriguez is like all prophets , who are never first embraced by their own people. America found their own thru South Africa.
Had the pleasure of seeing him live last night at the Hammersmith Apollo where he received a great welcome...lots of Safas, Zimbos but also Aussies, Kiwis and his new found audience the Poms.

I'm 58, as a teenager I started listening to Rodriguez, no one really new where he was from. The Doco clears a lot of that up. It looks surreal seeing people hear this like they have never heard it before. It still sounds cool after a 1000 times . Neil Young's Harvest, Bob Dylan's Desire, and Cold fact or we had the best of released in Australia which had Street boy on it. A song about myself I thought at 16. Very glad south Africa did searching for Sugarman. The mystery of this poet have been revealed Unbelievable. 11:54

I love the guy. Couldn't believe outside of Australia he was unknown as Rodriguez was such a part of many i knew including myself when growing up. Cold Fact is one of the best if not the best Folk Album ever released :)

He was a music idol and master guru in South Africa. Man he will remain one of my favourite musitians ever. Its a pitty that he got screwd by his music label and never received all the music royalties owed.

Heres a great Dylan song.
Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying
Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
Suicide remarks are torn
From the fool's gold mouthpiece
The hollow horn plays wasted words
Proves to warn that he not busy being born
Is busy dying
Temptation's page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover that you'd just be
One more person crying
So don't fear if you hear
A foreign sound to your ear
It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing
As some warn victory, some downfall
Private reasons great or small
Can be seen in the eyes of those that call
To make all that should be killed to crawl
While others say don't hate nothing at all
Except hatred
Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred
While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have to stand naked
An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it
Advertising signs that con you
Into thinking you're the one
That can do what's never been done
That can win what's never been won
Meantime life outside goes on
All around you
You lose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand with nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
That somebody thinks they really found you
A question in your nerves is lit
Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy
Insure you not to quit
To keep it in your mind and not fergit
That it is not he or she or them or it
That you belong to
Although the masters make the rules
For the wise men and the fools
I got nothing, Ma, to live up to
For them that must obey authority
That they do not respect in any degree
Who despise their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
Do what they do just to be nothing more than something they invest in
While some on principles baptized
To strict party platform ties
Social clubs in drag disguise
Outsiders they can freely criticize
Tell nothing except who to idolize
And then say God bless him
While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole that he's in
But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him
Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony
While them that defend what they cannot see
With a killer's pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death's honesty
Won't fall upon them naturally
Life sometimes must get lonely
My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards
False gods, I scuff
At pettiness which plays so rough
Walk upside-down inside handcuffs
Kick my legs to crash it off
Say okay, I have had enough
What else can you show me
And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only
Nothing special
Average voice no comparison between Dylan and Jose Feliciano or even Donovan never heard of him and Canada and I was there in the 70s ho hum

I Love Sixto but has anyone noticed he looks like Yoko Ono? Is it the glasses? haha.

Good thing only 2 person don t like this music ' i
Clarence Avant and Quincy Jones?
I see a lot of Dylan in him and I don't want to piss off this loyal fan base. Most people don't like the kind of stuff I like but here goes..... Not overly impressed with either him or Dylan, Just not into that Genre....More like poetry with a soundtrack. Not bad for 70 though. I would love to know what kind of Guitar that is he is playing. If anyone knows please let me know.
I saw in one documentary that he made one on his own.
Am I the only one who think, they are all under the effect of some drug or their own music? :)
What is apartheid? No this will never happen to Singapore, France, and the civilized world, then comes vaccine passport, and open discrimination of people. I wonder how many times you been had?
