His music was well received back in the 70,s in Australia . It was on high rotation on mine and my friends turntables and I have never tired of his music . Vale Sixto Rodreguez
It’s so unbelievably wonderful that in the last chapter of his life, Sixto got to experience the goodness, graciousness and deep love from the world that he had given to others his whole life. No human deserved the reverence more than this lovely lovely man. He is missed. His music and his beautiful story will live on forever. Thank you SOUTH AFRICA ✊👍💥💥❤️
I was a young boy of 10 years old 1970s in Cape Town and I was walking on the beach with my oldest brother and cousin next to the Brede River mouth 300km up the coast from Cape Town. My cousin asked my brother if he had ever listened to Rodriguez. I would listen to some of my brothers music and immediately started to recite Rodriguez tunes. My cousin looked at my brother and said he's to young to be listening to underground music 🎶. What memoirs legend ❤
I watched this doc. about Sixto Rodriguez last night and was so touched to my core essence and inspired by his humble spirit and conviction of his own evolving path. what a hauntingly beautiful gem of the human spirit and yet words can not fully describe but resonate the undercurrent of to preserver on your path even if it's an untraveled path by most, its following your heart speak for highest good :) Blessings Rodriguez
The best part of this whole story is the fact that the music is actually very good ! Id never heard of him in my life and I like to think I know more than the average person about the music of that era . He's unique and obviously talented. I'd have bought those albums if I'd heard them
R.I.P Sixto🌟 Diaz Rodriguez~ ¥ou will ãlways be a treasure here in Ãustralia💖 ¥our profound music saved my soul many times Thank~you beautiful humble man💫🙏🏽💫

20 years immigration from South Africa to Australia.. 1970 Sixto Rodriguez- Cold Fact full Album bought................. Searching for Sugar Man is a 2012 Swedish-British documentary film of a South African cultural phenomenon directed and written by Malik Bendjelloul which details the efforts of two Cape Town fans in the late 1990s, Stephen "Sugar" Segerman and Craig Bartholomew Strydom, to find out whether the rumoured death of American musician Sixto Rodriguez was true, and if not, to discover what had become of him. Rodriguez's music, which had never achieved success in the United States, had become very popular in South Africa although little was known about him in that country.
I think in America in the 1970s was kind of a bit tired of poetic music that had a Bob Dylan like flavor. America had already done the 1960s and heavy metal and Disco took over in the 1970s. Rodriquez was the right guy at the wrong time, but the right time is here, again.
@@roeltovar8601 That's funny, in the 1950s, America LOVED "Ricky Ricardo" and his wife, Lucy. The especially LOVED his Cubano accent. Rodriquez was and is a very talented musician and poet. He sure caught on with white South Africans!! It's wrong to stereotype people. White skin does not equal the KKK.
@@stevelangstroth5833 didn't say all White people racist, Ricardo was Caucasian, Rodriguez obviously more indigenous, Latino music artists not a genre in 1970 that's all
@roeltovar8601 depends who you ran with in the 70s. Santana, Hector LaVoe, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Charlie Palmieri (Latin boogaloo), Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66, Mongo Santamaria, War, even Julio Iglesias were all crossover, hit making 70s Latin music musicians. Harlem hosted clubs with Latin dancers of all races, and the Copacabana was world famous.
hank you for sharing your stories Sixto, Sugar, Malik, Craig, and everyone involved in 'Search for Sugar Man'. Truly a mocumentary made from passion and love :) It has inspired me and moved me in my life as well as my friends and family that i have encouraged to watched it. I wish you all all the best for touching so many lives in such a positive light :)
Fantastic documentary, but I believe he should have attended the Oscars and the Grammys. He still not appreciated enough in the state. He needed the exposure
You don't understand him...he was not a man for fame....he was a real person...not a pretender like so many musos....who are actually actors /filmstrip today.
Did the royalties ever get paid to the artist? Humble creators need protection to prevent this all too common scenario where the bloodsuckers prey on genius.
Yes he got the royalties and made lots touring. He gave most of it to his friends and daughters and continued living in the old run down house in Detroit.

I lived in Detroit and Dearborn in my youth, and SA in my adulthood. Everything about this resonates with me.

He was an important musician during the fight against Apartheid.
Yeah he did open our minds. Bob Marley as well he also arrived on the South African music scene. 🎶
I hope he finally gets his money :)
he's made a fortune playing gigs in the last few yrs.
He didn't care about money or fame, he was happy living his life with his daughters

ok.. now i wanna start my own search for that presenter.. mamma mia... nevermind sugar, she's 100% pure honey :))
Bob Dylan took credit for Sixtos style of music and voice...SIXTO WAS HIDDEN IN THE SHADOWS JUST BECAUSE HIS LAST NAME WAS RODRIQUEZ..SMH..😡
Was the tale of his death a stunt by those who stole his royalties..😢😢
Did the royalties ever get paid to the artist? Humble creators need protection to prevent this all too common scenario where the bloodsuckers prey on genius.
As far as I've read, he finally received the royalties at the age of 80, a year before he passed away.
Yes he got the royalties and made lots touring. He gave most of it to his friends and daughters and continued living in the old run down house in Detroit.
AND STILL MAKING A LIVING OUT OF HIM....
Thank you joe Rogan!
Yea yup
Which jre episode?
He got ripped off. I hope the worst for those lowlifes that kept stardom from him.
From whom have the American Capitalists not stolen from ?
