    All those that talk down on your setup are running $50 leveling blocks. Keep doing your thing these haters will always talk I’m about to pick up a king front coil over and rear shock leveling kit (yeah I said it and I don’t give a fu€k) for my 1st gen Tacoma and I can’t wait to drive it 23/7 on road. Sick truck

      Okay now question, can the Kings coilovers be used with a BDS 4 inch lift kit??? 👀

    • @malcolmn.5222
      @malcolmn.5222 Год назад

      But if you lift the the truck and the ride is shifty why do it

  • @jaredbellard2777
    @jaredbellard2777 6 лет назад +22

    I think describing the kit as a "leveling system" doesn't really do it justice, it's so much more than that. Also, don't confuse ride height with actual suspension quality and dampening. Height does not always equal suspension travel. Suspension travel does not always equate to better dampening, proper valving for the intended use is what you're going for. If you did it just to level your truck, yes, you made a poor decision. If you purchased the kit to go do hit some trails and make the the truck handle much better in faster off-road conditions you made a fine choice. For all the people that say, "well why didn't you just buy a raptor or a rebel?" You can build a base truck for cheaper that will eat one of those alive without all the fancy badging. You're paying for the image/ concept. I can go buy a lower grade F-150, 1500, or silverado/sierra, tundra 4x4, tune it (if eco-boost), add better suspension components that will handle much harsher off-road conditions than what stock raptor components are intended for, add armor, wheels and tires for what you would pay for a raptor package and it would take a fat ass shit on it. Those factory packages are cool, no doubt, but they're not that hard core and you get way more for your money if you build. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some mean Raptors configurations that are built from mild to wild, and Raptors are good platforms to build from (if you have the cheese) due to the wider fenders and other components, but most guys that go for those don't really want to work on their truck, and often times don't know how or have the tools. They just want the weekend warrior package to go crawl the mall with and feel hardcore when they get it up to 60mph on a groomed gravel road. Not to sound pretentious but you really sound like you don't know what you're talking about and lost me when you called it a "leveling system". If anything, I would at least call it "midtravel". Take off the the 20'' rims throw some 17's and 35's add high clearance bumpers, then we're talking, at least then you're using the suspension for what it was intended for. What a faggot.

  • @DanTourino
    @DanTourino 6 лет назад +52

    To be clear, the "Kings" are great coilovers but the ones you got are custom to Carli; the valving, springs and preload are all Carli and proprietary, that's what makes the ride what it is, not the "King" as the Carlis ride totally different than the OEM Kings. Also, decreasing the nitrogen pressure won't change the height; leave those at 225psi and add a touch of preload to the front coil if you want to bring it up a bit. Fox and King can both be adjusted for preload with a spanner and the weight off the suspension.

    • @JayFlatOut
      @JayFlatOut  6 лет назад +2

      We had them at 225 and the rear was way higher, Cody dropped them 150 because they were knocking as well going over bumps with too much pressure. We raised the front one full turn.

    • @Mill72
      @Mill72 6 лет назад +2

      Given that Carli rear coils give approx. 1/2” lift in the rear with only 2” lift height in front coilovers will give a rear rake. From factory there’s roughly an 2”-2.5” rake. Either leave the rear coil stock height or preload the fronts to 2.25”-2.5”, but you start to lose ride quality.
      You should’ve looked at Thuren Fab King suspension setup for the 1500.

    • @chipryan

      Dan T. I am thinking about buying the kings just for the Cadillac ride and mild trail ridding in the mountains of CO. I have a 4Runner with the cheap leveling kit from you tech, the ride is super bumpy. What all do I need to buy in order to get the Cadillac like ride? Based on this comment it’s not just the king shocks or kit for that mater, right?

  • @EmpTy-kf2rq
    @EmpTy-kf2rq 6 лет назад +4

    Nitrogen pressure should be 150psi. The nitrogen prevents cavitation ( bubbles in the oil) and not for lift. With the heavy Diesel engine you need a heavier weight front spring.

  • @Mill72
    @Mill72 6 лет назад +50

    Shocks don’t lift the truck. So letting nitrogen out the rear shocks does nothing other than affecting ride.

    • @JayFlatOut
      @JayFlatOut  6 лет назад +3

      That’s so odd because when we let the nitrogen out you could literally see the back lowering. These arent some shit Rancho shocks

    • @Mill72
      @Mill72 6 лет назад +22

      Jay Flat Out Without giving my history In the offroad scene before and dealt with King, Bilstein and Fox shocks. I know what a shock is. The coils/coilovers and leafs is what holds your ride height weight. Shocks are to keep your truck from bouncing everywhere down the road...AKA..... handling!

    • @JayFlatOut
      @JayFlatOut  6 лет назад +1

      I frankly don't give a fuck about your "history in offload" A brand new set of King shocks with 0 break in miles set to 225psi lifted the rear of this truck. I don't recall you being there during the installation process. Thanks for your concern.

    people forget too, that Kings are designed to be rebuilt. As long as you don't destroy the case in say an accident, then your pretty much set for life. Short of the cost to rebuild the seals as they age. But that cost is rather low in the overall scheme of things.

    The King shocks are awesome but there is a saying off road that "valving is king.." which means the valving (and coil spring choice) are the most important thing. I'm sure Carli has their own valving which means the truck should ride/handle even better then a set of off the shelf Kings. Enjoy your new ride..

    • @Titantramp4u
      @Titantramp4u 6 лет назад +1

      I agree they do valve/spring for the info they have, BUT what I was really trying to get across was companies such as Carli take what King would send them and then further refine then thru their own R&D shock testing.

    The shit ton of taxes they pay and the insane property costs will drive up prices. They price it at 4k, 30% goes to taxes, then there's cost for the facilities, material, etc...

Being inpatient I went with the Bilstein 6110 and 5160 combo + Total Chaos Fab UCAs. Gotta say I'm happy with them (2.65 inch front coilovers) and levels the trucks nicely. Soaks up big bumps offroad beautifully...haven't tried the Kings yet but would love to try them....I do wonder how much better they would be..if at all 🤔

      CrewDawgLife There’s a misconception when it comes to coilovers like 2.5”+ King, Fox, etc... the control and road manners of a bigger shock is well worth it alone. Don’t need to be living in the dirt to purchase. Strut spacers are crappy and just to squeez a bigger tire instead of function. Buy once, cry once.

Where were the before and after or at least some outside shots of your truck taking at least a speed bump. I get that it’s an on road truck but something more than “the talking head” and a shock adjustment would have been great. I am all for Hoonigan but they don’t just talk they show the viewers something. We all know it’s going to feel better and handle better before we watched the video. Showing how much better is the key.

    Where do I send you pics of my two rigs and comments on my level vs Backcountry vs Pintop that I finish installing tomorrow. Backcountry runs 35’s and Pintop runs 37’s. If it wasn’t for you I would have bought something else and “hated it” so I would like you to see what your knowledge and videos have helped someone like me who knew nothing about lifting trucks before your vids actually build some bad a$$ rigs that are a dream to drive even on our crap CR roads and spend half their time off road.

    Outstanding video! Dan @ Carli got me in touch with Paul @ CJC and I’m about to pull the trigger on the King kit for my 1500 Baby D, I’m stoked. My only question is what tire size and rim are you running, and if you had to do over would you stay with the same tire?

    • @JayFlatOut
      @JayFlatOut  6 лет назад

      +Chris Williams it’s a 20x10 inch wheel with a -24mm offset. Tires are 305/55R20 which are the perfect size for this lift in my opinion. No need to adjust speedometer and a little bigger than stock

    Kings are the way to go. I have the kings oem performance series on the front and rear on my 05 titan and they are amazing. The only thing I did to my shocks was flutter stack my shims inside which made it much better for the smaller wash board bumbs. And the clunking you were talking about when you go low on the nitrogen is the piston in the reservoir going back and forth because the nitrogen keeps the piston in place. I have had my truck 4 to 5 ft in the air and gone through whoops and the kings just handled it. I also installed limit straps up front because I did an aftermarket upper control arm.

    Kings will make the ride around town feel nicer, but they're not worth anywhere near $4000 if all you're going to do is drive around town. You really need to go off roading and hit some whoops at speed to understand why they're worth every penny.

    This guy doesn't seem to be using his truck for the kind of purpose his shocks/UCAs are designed. I've built trucks for some pretty severe off roading, and I've used KING shocks as well as other suspension components that complement the shocks for the kind of use I have.
    KING is top shelf, I've used them before I'll use them again, and their customer support is the gold standard.
    This fellow just seems the type with some money to spend and heard KINGs were the best, so he plunked down his platinum card and drove away with them. But to have them to just tool around on the street is kind of foolish to me, but he did say he wanted to be the "Mac Daddy" so there you have it.

    • @JayFlatOut

      Why does it matter if he doesn’t use it
      for off roading? It’s his money dude. I never got the point of why people always make comments like this. “Oh that person bought that big ass truck but isn’t going to tow anything with it.” So what? Maybe they just like the way it looks or how big it is, and they have the money to spend. It all comes down to it’s their money not yours.

    I would rather spend money on a proven product and get what I want then to spend less and have to keep piecing a system together and not get the ride I want. The ride is drastically changed not just leveled out. It is not a spacer kit that shoves a cheap plastic spacer in and it still rides like hell.
